Man, I'm going to be late! Registration for the All-Stars Tournament, the biggest event of the year, is about to close and if I don't hurry that despicable Bayonetta will get ahead of me in the rankings. If that happens, I'll…!
Just as I was about to turn the corner into the next hall I stopped, spotting Lucas sitting all alone on a bench. He tried to wipe away his tears as I approached.
"Hey, what's the matter?" I began in a gentle tone, sitting next to him. He hugged his knees, sniffling. At first he stayed quiet, but finally he answered.
"I…well, it's just… I'm no good at fights…"
"Why do you say that?"
As he gathered his thoughts, he buried his face into his knees, trying to make himself smaller. "…I let my friends down… Ness, Villager, Toon Link… They depended on me… We lost…"
I understood his frustration, more than I'd like to admit…but I gave him a smile, stroking his head. He looked at me. "If you let one setback bring you down, how can you show everyone the courage in your heart?" I told him. "It's there, and you know it. You just have to keep trying."
That seemed to cheer him up a bit, smiling. "Thank you, Ms. Samus." And as he took his leave, I looked over at the clock, sighing.
I didn't know you had such a soft spot for kids, I could already hear Sheik say…
I sighed again. "You better win this thing for me."
