Chapter 35: Today's That Day Evy

Rory tightened her shotgun against her shoulder and clicked it on. She was ready. Evy and Jonathan were doing the same, while Rick and Ardeth had gone down in the jungle to go after Alex.

"Jonathan," Evy said, making him turn to face her. "That's my son and my husband down there. Make me proud."

Rory inhaled sharply at her perspective.

"Today's that day, Evy," Jonathan said seriously.

"I'm right there with you," Rory added, coming up to the other side beside her. Evy smiled gratefully at her.

Down in the jungle, Ardeth and Rick raced to find Alex, while Evy, Jonathan, and Rory started shooting at the men in red that were around them. Rory shot at the red men as best as she could just like how Rick taught her back in the day, when they were together, and she was helping him win wars in the desert.

When the dust cleared away, Evy looked at the two, "Okay, let's go," she said after Jonathan finally shot Lock-Nah before he could get to Ardeth during their sword fight. Ardeth looked up to the cliffs and nodded at the old-timer hunter.

Rory, Jonathan, and Evy finally made it towards Rick, Alex, and Ardeth.

"In coming," Rick warned the medjai warrior.

Rory nearly jumped into his arms, knocking him over, and hugged the medjai tightly. He chuckled at her and hugged her back. "I'm okay, I'm okay," he said soothing her gently.

"I know, but it's not now I worry about, it's the war," I said softly.

"Don't worry, that's apart of the medjai life, Rory, what I've been trying to teach you all along," he said. Rory calmed down after that and sighed. She took a step back and he kissed her on top of her head.

"I'll be back before you know it," he said and then took one look at O'Connell.

"Or we'll get lost and be separated-"

"It won't come to that, I promise, I will return for you," he said cupping her face and planting a kiss on her lips that just melted her heart like butter. She felt all gooey inside and watched him part ways.

"Alex!" Evy cried, and hugged him.

"What were those pigmy things?" Jonathan asked.

"Oh it's nothing," Rick waved a hand at Jonathan. Jonathan looked over to Rory, like she would know.

Rory shrugged.

"Come on mum, come on dad, we have to get to the pyramid, we have to get the bracelet off now!" Alex cried in a panic.

"Oh, leave it on Alex, it looks good on you," Jonathan said, that ended up getting a hit from Rory in the shoulder. Jonathan shrugged at her.

"No you guys," Alex pleaded. "You don't understand. He told me the bracelet will kill me if I don't get inside the pyramid before the sun, today!"

"Oh my god," Evy muttered, realizing it now. Rory widened her eyes.

"Time to go!" Rick cried as they started to hear more pigmy mummies coming their way.

"I thought you said it was nothing!" Jonathan cried as they started to run and pick up the pace, heading into the jungle to get to the pyramid but then they all separated.

They ran through the jungle, and then suddenly Jonathan let out a yelp. "What?" Rory asked. He pointed up in the trees. Rory looked up in the trees and saw them. The pygmy flying freaking monkeys!

"Where the hell is Jonathan?!" Evy cried. "Rory!?" Rick asked. No one replied to them.

"Crap!" Rory yelled back.

"Yeah!" he cried.

She took out her gun and started shooting at them so they didn't get near them as they ran. Evy ran forward, but Jonathan and Rory had separated into another jungle pathway.

"Evy!" Rory cried, glancing around for her but to no avail.

"Rory, stop, over there!" Jonathan cried frantically looking over at the tombstones.

"What?"

"That's a sacred burial ground right?"

"Right, but-"

"Come on!" Jonathan dragged her to the burial ground, followed by one of the men, Rory thought she could have remembered him from the mansion awhile back. He survived a long time throughout this whole thing.

"It's a burial ground, we're safe, see those sacred stones? They'll never cross those," Jonathan pointed.

"Are you sure?" the man asked.

Rory wasn't.

"Yes, I'm sure!"

Rory was not one to cringe or hide, but she hid behind Jonathan when one suddenly flew into the burial and stabbed the man with its small tiny knife.

"AHHH! Sorry my mistake! Let's go!" he cried, pulling Rory along away from them. They managed to get back with Evy, Rick, and Alex, over to what appeared to be a dead end, but there was a long log right across the cliff.

"Hurry up Jonathan! Rory, come on!" Evy cried at them as she waved them over in a panic.

Rory stopped to catch her breath, and what she just saw.

Rick was taking extra precautions and taking out a TNT stick from his duffle bag.

"What's that?" Jonathan asked Rick when he got it lit up.

"Oh just something for a case of an emergency," he said. Rory smirked. Rick was always prepared.

"At least you didn't have to bargain me this time," Rory said, leaning against her shotgun.

"Don't have time, and you are not a bargaining chip," he grinned at her.

"Only on occasion right?"

"And since when has that ever ha-, never mind. Let's go," he said.

"Rick!" Evy said. The pigmy's were heading their way and were piling up against the log as they all ran across it. Rick threw the TNT across at them once they were on the other side of the cliff. Two pigmy's tried to take the TNT from each other and then once the other one had it, it ran off with it like a torch and then it exploded into a fiery pitfall below. Rory was left to finally sigh in relief once their cries died into the distance of the river down below.

"Dad! The bracelet!" Alex cried.

"Right, come on Alex!" he said and they took off running to race against the sunrise. He picked up his son, hoping to make it before hand. Evy, Jonathan and Rory caught up.

"You know, it's not easy, being a dad," Rick said out of breath.

"Yeah, but you do it real good," Alex said. Once it was okay for him to loose the bracelet, he took it off and tossed it across the sand.

Rory smiled.

"They made it, thank God," Evy said, as she placed her pack down, grinning at Rory.

The two women shared a smile, thankful that neither one was- Suddenly Rory sensed a strange ping of pain in her heart that made her twist around, suddenly realizing Anuk-Su-Namun was here and she was here to kill Evy.

She spun around, and pushed Evy out of the way just in time for Anuk-Su-Namun to stab her in the heart, and let her fall to her knees. But it didn't matter- Imhotep had thrown Jonathan out of the way, and she was still able to stab Evy too with her knife.

Anuk-Su-Namun watched Rory fall to pieces. She knelt down beside her and showed her the Book of the Dead. Rory's eyes fluttered in and out.

"Looks like you won't be getting this after all," she said. "You're such a disappointment to the medjai. Now, now, mind your screams." She placed her hand over Rory's mouth until Rory blacked out entirely.
