Chapter 35: Memories in the Park
Inuyasha and Kagome exit the hospital's front doors. Inuyasha crouches down. "Hop on." He tells her. Kagome gets onto his back and grab onto his shoulders and he wraps his arms around her legs to prevent her from falling. The second he leap up, his long hair waves over the girls as if it was a curtain to make sure that no one would spot her. Inuyasha lands onto the next building until he spots the destination that he's taking Kagome.
He lands gracefully in an alleyway, "Where are we going?" Kagome asks as she gets off. All Inuyasha does is point towards the park's entryway. "Why are we here?" She asks her next question. They walk in and go sit under a big tree. Kagome can see the sadden yet happy expression as he stares off the distance. "You see that bench there?" He points to the one bench that's by a water fountain. Kagome nods to him. "This is where I met Kikyo." Inuyasha only spoke his answer.
Flashback
Inuyasha is doing his jog around the park. Even though he's a hanyou, he still needs to stay in shape. As such he'd run around the park six times in on day. Anyone who would see him a few times know better to leave him alone because there's a law of demons, as well as hanyou are to be treated with respect regardless their power. After his fourth lap around the park, Inuyasha decides to take a break at the bench by the fountain. He pulls out his water bottle and chugs down whatever is left. Knowing that he needs to refill the bottle he looks around the area to see if a water fountain is there. He sees one and heads over there. He turns it on to refill the bottle until a shadow comes over his figure.
Once finished, Inuyasha stands up to see a girl about his age, maybe a bit younger than him. "Sorry. I didn't know that I was creating a line." Inuyasha blushes at the proximity he is to the girl. "You're Inuyasha?" She asks him as she refills her water bottle as well. "Yeah. What about it?" Inuyasha looks at her indifferently. "Believe it or not, but we go to the same school." The girl remarks him. "How so? I've never seen you before." He sits onto the bench with the girl sitting next to him. "I just moved here into town. I was transfer there. When I arrived you were the first person I saw." The girl explains to him.
Inuyasha didn't know he'd be that important to one person. "I'm Kikyo. If you never knew me when I came in." Kikyo introduces herself. "Nice to meet you. But are you sure want to hang out with me? I'm not a social person." Inuyasha asks her in concern. "Why should I? You're a living being. I don't see anything wrong with that." Kikyo smiles to him. Inuyasha is now wary about her. "But I'm a hanyou. I'm not worthy to be in your presence." Kikyo giggles at that comment. "I beg to differ. I'm pretty certain you have a reason to live. I hope that you know the balance law." She reminds him about the law. "Yes, I know fully well about it. It was actually my father who came up with the idea."
Kikyo didn't see that coming. "Your father? You mean that…" She couldn't believe that Inuyasha's father is. "Yeah. My father is Inutaishou. He's a demon and my mother is human so it's natural that I'm a hanyou. So, my father thought that he came with an idea to create a law to ensure that hanyou are treated with respect. As such he called is the Balance Act to make sure that everyone is treated equally regardless about their heritage." He explains the reason about the law.
"Kikyo, there you are." A female voice shouts out at her. The two spot a girl a few years younger than them. "Oh hi Kaede. What are you doing here?" Kikyo stands up from her spot on the bench. "Mom sent me to go find you." Kaede said to her. "Oh ok. Let's go." Kikyo smiles as she takes Kaede's hand. "I'll see you later." Kikyo waves good bye to Inuyasha. Inuyasha does the same. 'As such I couldn't get her out of my mind.' Inuyasha narrates the final moment.
End of Flashback
Kagome does her best to hold her tears from hearing Inuyasha's sad story. "If I were to know any better, Kikyo must've been the nicest people to you outside of your family." Kagome comments to him. Inuyasha nods. "She was the first to be that way. However, her family weren't nice to me. Her father in particular didn't want me near for any reason. Even throughout the school year, he made sure that neither of us had the same classes." Inuyasha chuckles at that part. "I guess her father were those over protective parents who don't want their kids to be hanging out the delinquent kids." He shakes his head.
"What about Tsubaki? Was her father ok for Kikyo to be friends with her?" Kagome asks him curiously. "To be honest with you. I have no idea. From time to time I'd see them together, and I thought that I'd give Kikyo some time to herself so she can hang out with Tsubaki." Inuyasha answers her calmly. "We should leave. I take it that being here any longer would be too depression for you." Inuyasha suggests to her. No sense of arguing with him, they leave the spot and head back to their homes and call it a day.
As Kagome comes into her room, she closes the window since Inuyasha took her and head off to the hospital. "Kagome." Kaede knocks on her open door. "What is it?" Kagome turns to her. "Did Inuyasha take you to the spot where he and Kikyo met?" She asks her. "He did. He told me what happened and when you came to take her home." Kagome responds back as she goes into her closet to get her pjs. "But do you want to know why I went there pick her up?" Kaede asks her nervously. "And why is that?" Kagome asks from in her closet. "It was because my dad spotted her there and wanted me to pick her up instead because he doesn't want to give Inuyasha the wrong idea about him. He just doesn't want Inuyasha to be near her because she's a priestess." At that Kagome widens her eyes and stays stiff in the closet.
