A/N: Hello readers! I'm back it's been ages I know, I offer you the usual excuses. I'm pretty sure sometime around here is this story's one year anniversary. Thanks to readers new and old who have stuck with me this far, you'll have to stick with me a while longer at this rate I'm afraid. But that's just one of the joys of fan fiction. Have a fairly chunky chapter to enjoy. I went for something a little different and did this chapter in the style of letters. I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society last summer, it was done in this style and is a great book and a good film too. Enjoy!

Friday 4th April 1977 (James to Lily)

Alright Evans?

How have your first few days of holiday been? I'm writing to you about a very important matter. Sirius and I were out on one of our daily outings to the local town to wear our muggle clothes and catch up with our friends there and I was just informed that muggles believe in a giant easter bunny rabbit that brings chocolate eggs for muggle children? We're certain that they're having us on, can you please confirm or deny this fact?

In other news, as I'm sure you were desperate to know my holiday has been going fine so far, I've thrown all the work we have to do into my wardrobe to procrastinate doing it indefinitely and instead have been working on the motorbike with Sirius - I can finally help with the spellwork because I'm now officially an adult to the ministry.

We finally got the bloody thing flying! You'd be so proud of us Evans, honestly you would. And you can call me an arrogant prat but it's an absolute thing of beauty. Wizards always talk about how you shouldn't mix muggle inventions and magic, but if you ask me, they were made to be thrown together and experimented on. It's even given me some ideas for that business plan I need to do for my dad.

How are you doing? How's Petty- sorry I mean Petunia- and her boyfriend?

Also, did you get that letter from Hogwarts about taking the apparition test in our first week back at school? Peter's pissed 'cos you can only take it if you're of age and he's a baby who's birthday isn't until June.

Please reply swiftly with your answer to my previous question.

All the best,

James

Saturday 5th April 1977 (Lily to James)

Potter,

There is in fact a popular muggle belief about a giant bunny rabbit that brings you chocolate eggs at easter. I myself have never seen any physical evidence of the aforementioned bunny. But that might just be down to my bad luck rather than his nonexistence.

I'm glad you've updated me on how your holiday is going so far, I was in fact, tossing and turning all through the night wondering what you've been up to (can you hear my sarcasm here? I just thought I'd clarify in case your big head didn't catch it).

I am quite impressed you managed to make the bike fly, I bet Sirius can hardly control himself- how's he doing by the way? He hasn't fallen back into old habits? Also, tell him to answer my letter, the lazy bastard.

Have you got the invisibility on the bike sorted out? I'm begging you not to fly it around a muggle area until you've fixed that otherwise I'm certain that's a oneway ticket to Azkaban.

Petunia is doing ok, I think? Honestly, I only really see her at dinner time because she's only got the easter weekend off from work and is being as pleasant as ever- meaning she's being a big bint, but I've managed to restrain myself from hexing her with my trace-free wand so it's going pretty well.

I did get that letter about the apparition test, which is going to be so useful to do, although it's one of the most awful feelings I've ever experienced, teleporting instantly to a new location does come in pretty handy. Also, tell Peter not to worry- one of you three are bound to fail your test first time so he can take it with one of you in the summer when he's of age, and Frank's birthday isn't until the first of July, so there'll be a few doing it in summer. Speaking of licenses- I've finally been able to start to learn to drive! I've gone out with my dad every day so far- ask your muggle friends, learning to drive and getting your license is a huge deal. Sure, it's slightly undermined by apparition… but once you get past the paralysing fear that you can kill yourself or others entirely too easily it's pretty good fun!

Hope you don't plunge to your death on that bike,

Lily

Sunday 6th April 1977 (Lily to Marlene)

Mar,

I'm so sorry to hear that, is Oisín ok?! Obviously your big sister instincts were right and that crowd he was hanging around were no good! At least he didn't get knee capped like his 'friends' brother did, an extremely low bar to set I know, tell him I hope his face heals up quickly. It sucks you've still got the trace on you and can't help. I've sent you some chocolate frogs you can share with him because I know he loves them, and also a few potions I managed to brew in the garden shed which might help him. Is it awful with you? How are your parents? And your aunties and uncles? I thought it had been pretty quiet for a few months now? Or at least fewer bombs and shootings than there were in the summer.

It's a shame you can't do your apparition test until the summer but maybe if I pass mine after the easter hols, I could come visit you?

Did you listen to Van Morrison's album which came out on the first? I'm not sure I liked it as much as some of his other stuff… AND The Clash are releasing their album on Tuesday, I liked their singles but I really have no idea if I'll like the album or not.

Also, quick tip for the potions homework- for the essay on the importance of transient stages of potions, if you've still got your notes from the report we had to do two weeks ago, it was on a potion with a transient stage and the answers in the report can write half your essay for you.

All my love,

Lily

Sunday 6th April 1977 (James/Sirius to Lily)

Red,

Your ability to be sarcastic through a letter is truly impressive. Sirius is fine he's actually-

Lily. Sirius here. I'm sure you could tell because my writing is much nicer than James' chicken scratch. I've just taken the quill off him because I've decided I might as well reply to your letter to me through James' reply rather than you getting two letters.

Firstly, thanks for writing I appreciate the thought and I'm very much glad that you finally gave in to yourself and accepted that you liked me and crave my friendship. Have you managed to get your sister alone yet? I really do think that if you nag her enough she'll stop being such a bitch.

Yes, I sent Reggie a letter, I'm not convinced he'll have received it because if Kreacher finds out it's from me he'll definitely burn it. Reg said to me on the train that he'd try and come over to France when I go to Alphard's next week so I'm optimistic.

I see that James stole my thunder and has already told you about the bike- thunder stealing asshole. The invisibility isn't quite working yet, no of course we're not going to fly it over a muggle area until we get it sorted, and yes I can sense you arching that eyebrow at me as you read this, trust me when I say we're NOT GOING TO FLY IT OVER MUGGLE AREAS UNTIL IT'S INVISIBLE. We don't actually want to go to Azkaban before we turn 18.

Also, you'll be pleased to know that while James ignores his schoolwork, I, Sirius Black have completed all the assigned work and am even working on catching up on all the stuff I missed this term. It's ok, dry your eyes, I know you're crying tears of joy at my personal development lately.

Is that everything? I don't think I missed anything.

We played quidditch yesterday- the first time for me since The Incident- it was good fun but I was disgusted to learn that James is now much better than me.

Hope you're doing well Lils, if Petunia carries on being herself just stay strong, she's lucky to have a sister like you and I'll always be there for you to complain to about her.

LOVE, SIRIUS

Bloody hell, he's so rude. Do you have room in your garden for a Sirius? I've got one for sale. He's just strutted out the room feeling very proud of himself for hijacking my letter.

I did actually mention driving to our muggle friends in the town and a very enthused conversation about the joys of driving ensued. Although, I honestly think our cover has most definitely been blown, we were asking them questions about it and I think they now think we're part of a cult. Although, credit where credit is due, this hasn't stopped them from hanging out with us.

In more depressing news, things are getting pretty tense in the wizengamot. They've been in session a lot and my dad's been giving me lessons every day basically and I now get to wear the Potter family Heir Ring- how exciting. At least it's not as gaudy as families like the Malfoys. It's all just starting to feel pretty real and the way my dad is rushing out these lessons makes me think he's much more worried than he's letting on- which is worrying because he's saying how he's very worried… it just feels like he's preparing me for his death or something and it's freaking me out.

Anyway, there was a fight in the atrium of the ministry the other day and dad got to whack a death eater sympathiser up the face with his walking stick because he made a derogatory comment about the clerk in the session because they were a half-blood. You should've seen his face as he retold the story, dad got away with it because he's Fleamont Potter but a lot of people were pretty pissed.

Sirius is heading off to his uncle's soon so you better make sure you write, I'm sure I'll be completely bored.

I hope you don't die in a grisly car crash,

James

Monday 7th April 1977 (Alice to James)

Jimbo,

Of course I'll come up to you this week, and yes, mum says she'll bake some of those cakes you love so much for me to bring with me. Did you hear about Nicholas Smith? Dad says he's gone missing, I'm sure your mum probably knows. The Smith's have kept it pretty quiet so far… I think it must be deatheaters, but he's a pure-blood so I can't think of any reason why they would take him? Unless they're trying to get some support from the Smiths who have been verbally against Voldemort but practically pretty neutral? It's just pretty worrying. Frank's mother has been getting awfully paranoid, she's just boosted the wards on Longbottom Manor and I think my Uncle will be considering doing the same to Prewett House.

I heard about your dad whacking Burnett in the face with his walking stick in the atrium- amazing! I've also been hearing whisperings from Fabian and Gideon about Dumbledore attempting to get a group of anti-voldemort people together. Have you heard anything about this? I'm sure your family would be top of the list, I know your father and Dumbledore haven't always seen eye to eye, but I think it would be a good idea. Remember when you mentioned doing something like that to Dumbledore right at the beginning of the school year?

Anyway, I was thinking I could come up on Friday maybe? It's meant to be great weather, we could go swimming in the lake like we used to do? If I come in the morning? Make sure you leave your floo open, please, we don't want a repeat of last time.

See you soon!

Love and hugs,

Alice x

Tuesday 8th April 1977 (Remus to James)

Prongs,

Yeah, tomorrow should work for me. If I get the knight bus and meet you in London? That does sound like a really interesting piece of old magic, but it does sound kind of like a blood ritual so you need to be super careful if you're considering it, some of those old magicks are abhorrent.

I've recovered ok, although I needed a trip to St Mungo's after the last moon. It's always worse when I have to do a moon at home. There were a few people who didn't want to let me in but my dad talked his way through them, they seemed to be doing some kind of anti-werewolf protest. The usual spiel about us being dark creatures, can't say I disagree completely either…

Is it weird if I'm excited to go to the British Wizarding Library? I've always wanted to go, I could never convince my dad to part with the sickles though, are you sure you're alright to pay? I'm sure if I looked under our sofa I could maybe find a few? I told my mum yesterday that it was in the tower of London and she spat out her tea! We must not have told her, she thinks it's pretty awesome though. I can't promise I won't get distracted by all the books and scrolls though.

Yeah I heard about Nicholas… it's crazy, absolutely mental, I really hope he gets found soon. It's getting closer and closer to home, James, Nicholas is our peer, he's been in our History class forever, what if it's one of us next? Your mum and the aurors still haven't heard anything about the ransom or anyone owning up to taking him? God, I hope he's ok.

Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow and I'll bring some robes to chuck on before we go into the library.

All the best, mate,

Moony

Wednesday 9th April 1977 (Marlene to Dorcas)

D,

How're the Isles of Scilly? I hope you've got some sunshine because it's been bloody freezing over here. I'm really glad you and your mam and brothers have been able to get away, you deserve it more than anyone. How's your mam doing? I know you said she's having good days and bad days but I really hope she's having more good days than bad. Thanks again for those things you sent over for Oisín, between you and Lily he should be good as new in no time. It's just really bloody scary and it sucks that my muggle family are at risk from other muggles and me and all the muggleborns are at risk from pure-bloods, Lord, why can't we all just get on for goodness sake.

You better pass your apparition test so you can come visit me over here. My stupid May birthday has really screwed me over.

There's still been nothing in The Prophet or anything about Nicholas Smith, it seems like they don't want to admit he's missing. The boy's annoying but I hope he's OK.

Did you see the Quidditch scores? The Harpies absolutely decimated the Arrows, I swear Cas if this ends and we're not dead, me and you are joining them, they're actually so fab!

Give my best to Tobias, Marcus and your mam.

Miss you loads!

M xx

Thursday 10th April 1977 (Peter to James)

Sorry Prongs,

I got your letter but got distracted by something and put it down and bloody forgot where I put it so I only opened it this morning. How was the library? I've never been to the one in London. I also don't think I would've been much help to you and Moony, libraries aren't really my thing but I hope you found what you were looking for, although it sounds like some questionable magic? I don't really know if there's such a thing as dark magic though, you know? Like, surely magic is only dark if you use it for dark purposes? From what I've heard it sounds more like powerful vs. non-powerful magic as oppose to dark vs. light magic.

Yeah, Miranda had told me Nicholas Smith hadn't been seen for a few days. I bet he wandered off though and just forgot the way home, he's always been a bit of a prick, they'll find him soon.

I need to go, hope you're having a good holiday and Sirius hasn't fucked your house up or anything.

Pete

Friday 11th April 1977 (Dorcas to Alice)

Hi Alice,

How are you? I'm doing okay, but it just sucks to be home for a holiday and not have my dad. Tobias and Marcus managed to get a good chunk of time off and join us at the house out here in the Isles of Scilly, the weather out here is so much better and it's been so great to see the two of them, I don't think I could deal with mum if I was alone. I do think the sun is good for mum though, she looked like a ghost wandering around our house alone, the house elves even pulled Marcus aside and told him how worried they all were about her.

Do you know anything about my brothers meeting up with your cousins to discuss something Dumbledore is planning? I overheard them talking the other night and they mentioned Fabian and Gideon and a meeting with Dumbledore? If you've heard anything along those lines let me know. I've also heard Marcus mention Alastor Moody and Dumbledore planning something. You've probably heard of Moody - he was Marcus' trainer and is now his supervisor. Completely ruthless, but an excellent auror.

You said you were going to James' today, right? Maybe his mum would know something, I'm pretty sure she trained Moody, so she might know something we don't.

I've been trying to find out what Marcus knows about Nicholas Smith's disappearance as well. It seems like although nothing official has been said yet everyone knows anyway. I hope he's ok, Marcus doesn't know much and won't say much except that the investigation is ongoing. I just really hope he got lost or something and he gets found soon. If it's death eaters that's totally over the line, their whole thing is about how much they value blood purity, it can't be them right? I just don't know who else it could be if it's not…

Anyway, have a good time with Potter, tell him I say hi, and ask him about Lily will you? I've been starting to think they might actually work well together- something I would never have thought I'd say a year ago!

Love,

Cas

Sunday 13th April 1977 (Sirius to Regulus)

Dear Master Regulus Black,

This correspondence is detailing your current Daily Prophet subscription.

did it work? That was me attempting to misdirect any nosey shits looking at this letter who aren't supposed to be, like a certain ugly house-elf.

Hi Reg,

How are you? It's Sirius if you hadn't guessed, hopefully this makes it to you. I arrived at Uncle Alphard's place yesterday. It's gorgeous out here, he's pretty near the Alps so it's still cold but the views are to die for Reg. There's a beautiful lake, bloody freezing but beautiful. I met Alphard's 'gentlemen friend'. I was a little worried but the guy is actually really stellar. He's called Pierre, he's a few years younger than Alphard but Alphard's been ill so he looks way younger than him.

I'm not gonna lie Reg, Alphard doesn't look great… he's as chipper and sarcastic as he ever was but he's on a bunch of potions, he's all thin too. I think if you can make it out here it would maybe be for the best, and hey, if he dies while you're on good terms maybe he'll leave you something in the will!

Sorry, that was pretty dark.

Also, just so you know, I haven't drank anything since we last spoke at Hogwarts, I was serious when we had our talk, if you'll excuse the pun. Actually don't excuse it, I definitely did that on purpose.

Did you hear about Nicholas Smith? I don't want to jump to conclusions about this, but I really hope you didn't have anything to do with that, I really don't think the guy's just gone missing, I'm almost certain he was taken most likely by your little slimy buddies.

Anyway, I really hope you can make it. Alphard and me can pick you up from the portkey site, we can send you one by owl to the local post office so mother and father don't find out. When I got in Pierre and Alphard picked me up in a muggle car and we drove all the way into the mountains, it was great, but part of me doesn't think you'll appreciate that as much as I did.

I hope you're doing ok, Reggie, and let me know if you can make it.

Yours,

Sirius

Sunday 13th April 1977 (Regulus to Sirius)

Sirius,

I can come but only for two days, mother thinks I'm going into the countryside with Rowle and a few others. Can Alphard send the port key to the post office in Cambridge? I won't say much more here.

See you soon, hopefully,

R

Tuesday 15th April 1977 (James to Sirius)

Padfoot,

I can't believe you left your mirror here, I'd have thought that was the one thing you'd definitely remember. I'm hurt Sirius, genuinely hurt.

Which ear does Pierre have pierced? Dave from town says that gay guys get their right ears pierced as a secret sign to other gay people. Maybe our defence group should get like secret piercings or tattoos or something. Oh, Charlie finally got that tattoo yesterday and Lucy loves it so you better watch out because I think Charlie's gonna make a move, I'm pretty sure they both like each other. Do you reckon you can get wizarding tattoos? I can't tell if that's a really awful or a really great idea.

I'm glad you're having a good time, mate, I know you've said there's not much exciting stuff going on but I bet it's been nice letting Padfoot have a run around because there's no one near you is there? And, I think this is good for you, Alphard may have been disowned from the Blacks but he's still your blood and there's nothing like family. You'll always have a place at the Potter's but I'm really pleased you've been able to reconnect with your uncle, although quidditch practice is definitely less fun without you, I made Alice practice with me and she was bloody awful.

They've finally put a missing notice about Nicholas Smith in The Prophet. I've been writing to Owen Redgrave, the poor guy's not been himself since that awful situation with Lucy, she's still seeing the mind healers and Owen and his parents want her to give up the child when it arrives but Lucy wants to keep it? But they don't know if that's some fucked up residue of being imperiused or if she doesn't understand because she's gone kind of crazy or if its's genuine. Poor family. On top of that, the Smith's and Redgraves go way back and he thinks that Nicholas must be dead by now, his family have started to give up hope… Merlin, I really hope he's ok.

Have you been keeping up with Peter? He's barely been replying to my letters and all his replies are super short? I guess he might just be busy though.

I'm getting kind of bored and have filled up my sketchbook so can't even distract myself with drawing anymore, I guess I should do my homework. Although, mum and dad have been practicing duelling with me now I've got no trace. Well, duelling with mum whilst dad offers 'constructive criticism' from the sidelines although I think he's just being mean sometimes. He isn't really up to practice duels anymore, he's doing ok though, I think.

Also, I've been riding your motorbike whilst you've been gone, you know, letting her stretch her legs and all, though I'm still nowhere with the invisibility bit of the wards and spellwork.

Have a good time out there, mate, be careful with Regulus though, ok? I know he's your brother and you're giving him another chance and all but don't forget who he surrounds himself with.

See you soon,

Love Prongs

Thursday 17th April 1977 (Frank to Alice)

Alice,

I'm writing this to you quickly from the ministry. I've been around the ministry today with mother and the news has just broken that they found Nicholas Smith in Sherwood Forest… well his corpse.

Merlin, Al. I was around the corner while an auror was telling mother and he said he was captured, tortured and used in an arcane blood ritual. I almost threw up at what he was saying so I won't give you the details. Everyone's in uproar because he is- merlin, was a pureblood, people are saying it can't have been Voldemort and his lackeys because they're always going on about the importance of blood purity, but it must be? Who else would do that? Unless there's another group of terrorists who like to attack schoolchildren out there? Just please stay inside, in your house, in your wards. They finished the ward upgrades right? I know your parents were reluctant about doing that, but you have to stay safe. Godric, Alice, I need you safe. If anything happens you can come to Longbottom Manor. Everyone's getting worried in case pure-bloods are being targeted and you're sacred twenty eight so be careful.

I saw James around, so I'm sure he knows by now as well.

Be safe,

I love you,

Frank

Friday 18th April 1977 (Lily to James)

James,

That's so messed up what happened to Nicholas, are you ok? Your last letter was all over the place. It took me a few tries to get through the details of what you heard but thanks for including them, it's a reminder of what we're fighting against. Alice also knows, but I'm assuming you know that. I think Frank told her.

It has to be death eaters? Unless there's like an anti-pureblood movement going on that we don't know about? Although if there is I'd be a little annoyed I didn't get an invite.

Sorry, that was in bad taste, I'm pretty freaked out by this as well.

Yeah, I've sent a letter to Marlene and the others but I think it's a good shout if we meet by the barrier before getting on to the platform, strength in numbers right? Do you think we should increase the amount of times our defence group meets? Also, we really need a name for that.

Sirius says he's coming back tomorrow, how are you guys getting on? It seems like you're mainly back to how you used to be, which will be a relief for the whole school I'm sure when you start pranking again.

Alice said she had a good time with you last week, although she regaled me with tales of your forcing her to play Quidditch, she said you didn't know she hates broomsticks? Although, I'm pretty sure you know as well as I do that Alice hates flying and broomsticks with an equal, searing passion.

Things with Petunia are the same as normal really, meaning she has days where she's civil and almost friendly to me and then she seems to remember that I'm a freak and she decides she hates me again. And, yeah there must be wizarding tattoos? Maybe it's worth a trip into knockturn alley? You have to bring me with you if you ever do that, I'm intrigued now. Also, does Sirius know that Lucy seems like a female version of him? I have this whole picture of your muggle friends in my head and they look suspiciously like The Ramones.

Hope you're ok, Bambi,

Red

Saturday 19th April 1977 (Lucius Malfoy to Regulus)

Master Regulus Black,

The Dark Lord requires yours and your fellow initiates presence tomorrow evening. I have been requested to escort you and several others to the meeting place. Be outside your ancestral home at 8 o' clock sharp, in your ceremonial robes.

Sincerely,

Lucius Malfoy

Saturday 19th April 1977 (Unsent letter from Severus to Lily)

Dear Lily,

Do you think terrible things can be justified if it's for a good cause? Do you think they can be justified if I had no other choice? I've got myself into something, you called it from the beginning and guess what? You were right. I think I've gone dark.

You couldn't understand. When your blood isn't enough you get by on talent. When your talent isn't enough you get by on beauty and charm and the personality of a saint with a sense of humour. Your Gryffindors are too obtuse to ever be truly cruel, you've never had to turn yourself into what you hate to stop those you hate from hurting you. If I had rejected Avery and Mulciber and that whole crowd of grotesque imbeciles, do you know what they would've done to me? When you're standing in front of a madman, looking in his ironically human eyes, you can feel his madness slithering into your soul. And do you know what's worse? Most of the time he sounds perfectly sane. Most of the time he's actually convincing me.

Although, truth be told, he does appear to be using some kind of mind magic. Don't worry though, Lily, I'm working on never letting anyone into my mind without my permission ever again. It always seemed like you used to be able to read my mind but maybe you just knew me that well.

And I threw it all away, I know that now. I threw it away and I made sure it would never be found again when I chose my 'friends' over you. I was just choosing survival though. You Gryffindors have never heard of 'self preservation' have you? You'd rather die in a false blaze of glory than live a long life. You don't know what subtlety is or the nuances of cunning. Say, maybe I'm playing the long game, and there's a shred of good in my cold heart. Maybe I'll turn traitor to the Dark Lord and unleash my inner Gryffindor and save the world someday.

Perish the thought, he would know, he always knows.

I'm about to sell my soul to the devil Lily. But if I can somehow push him in the right direction he could do great things. He touts pure-blood supremacy but I think he means to reform, the ministry is useless after all.

I'm about to enter their circle, they want me to kill somebody Lily. And I know exactly who it'll be. He's just a muggle but a kill is a kill. You probably know too, the man who's made my life a misery since the day I was born? I know exactly how as well, I dream about it sometimes. The perfect potion. To the muggles and her it will appear a dreadfully sudden and devastating and mysterious disease. But I'll know exactly how it rotted him from the inside out, I'll know exactly how painful his death will be, the Dark Lord will be delighted with my method when I show him the contorted body. He'll bring me into his confidence and I'll finally have respect, I'll finally show those pure-blooded bastards that I am every bit as powerful and clever as they are. Blood means nothing when its spilled all over the floor after all.

I shouldn't be telling you all this.

What am I saying? I'll never fucking send this to you anyway, it'll join the pile of countless other letters I write to you. Our correspondence is the only reason I'm as okay as I am. This is the last you'll hear from the Sev you used to know, I'm afraid. Soon I'll be his. It'll be worth it though.

It has to be. Pain is temporary and glory lasts forever, after all.

All my love forever and always,

Severus

Sunday 20th April 1977 (Marlene to Dorcas)

D,

Good Lord, that's so gruesome. Poor Nicholas, completely drained of blood? Hung upside down like a piece of meat with evidence of torture? I went off my dinner after I read your last letter. Is Marcus ok after being part of the group that found him? It must've been an awful sight. I thought purebloods were meant to be safe from this shit? You be careful now, ok? You Meadowes' are pretty pure as well, you can't trace your lineage back to Helga Hufflepuff like the Smith's can but still pretty pure.

Oisín has healed up pretty well, though I'm getting the feeling that he's still hanging out with that rough groups of boys, even though me and mam keep telling him not to. It's a lot of pressure for a 14 year old though, one of his other friends stopped hanging out with that group and the next day his sister was harassed by a group of older boys.

Has your mam come back to herself anymore? Honestly, Cas, maybe it would be best if she stayed in the Isles, but then your house would be basically empty, unless the boys moved back in during term time?

I'm really looking forward to seeing you all at King's cross on Wednesday but I bet everyone's going to be in uproar after what's happened to Nicholas, it's definitely starting to seem like no one is safe. Lily says the whole group of us will meet up by the barrier before going in.

Love,

M x

Sunday 20th April 1977 (James to Frank)

Hiya Frankie boy,

How are you doing? Alice says you overheard the auror report first-hand? I was with my mum when she got the patronus, it gave me a legitimate nightmare. Yeah, we'd already upgraded our wards before the news about Nicholas. I'm thinking it must have been some sort of ritual done by Voldemort? I was literally in the British Wizarding Library the other week and was reading about obscure rituals, I can't think what it could be though if I don't know what runes and markings were used and I don't think I'm ready for that kind of detail.

Anyways, I'm writing because my dad received the weirdest memo yesterday that the genealogies of the Potters and Longbottoms were examined in the hall of records? Was that you? The memo said the query was anonymous. It makes me a little nervous after this stuff with Nicholas and there's whispers of an anti-pureblood movement starting to combat the Death Eaters, but if you're against the Death Eaters you wouldn't be against our families because we're publicly opposed to Voldemort so it must be the Death Eaters? Ugh, I don't get it.

If it was you, please tell me, it'll put my mind at ease. Be safe ok? I'm relying on you to stay alive and look after Alice. Tell your mum I say hi, I know she likes me really, as much as she says I'm a 'frustrating menace' to my face I know she thinks I'm great behind closed doors.

Hope to hear from you soon,

A Frustrating Menace x

Monday 21st April 1977 (Remus to Lily)

Hi Lils,

Yeah, I got that letter for an emergency prefects meeting at the start of the train journey. It makes me think they're increasing security after what happened to Nicholas but it didn't happen on school grounds and James said the ministry haven't made any moves to protect students or anything- surprise, surprise, right? We'll be meeting up before we get on the platform though so we can just go straight there.

I'm glad you're enjoying driving so much, I've been going out with my mum but it makes me so bloody anxious I just stall the car all the time. Here's hoping I can get my apparition licence once we're back so I don't need to worry about being able to drive. I don't think I told you, but I overheard in the hospital the other week a few werewolves talking about how the moon transformations make werewolves more resistant to splinching which is pretty interesting. It seems like it makes learning apparition harder because there's an internal resistance to willingly changing state, but once you've gotten over that initial block being a lycanthrope actually makes it a little easier.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday, you've been a really great friend to me this whole year, despite knowing about my 'furry little problem' as James would say and I just wanted to say thank you.

James said that you guys have been writing to each other this whole holiday, is there something you want to tell me about there, Miss Evans? I won't tell James if that's what you're worried about, for you, I'd keep a secret from him, just saying…

Anyway, see you soon!

Remus

Tuesday 22nd April 1977 (Peter to James)

Hi,

Sorry I thought I'd replied but then realised I hadn't. Yeah, see you tomorrow at 10.45. I've told Miranda and a few other mates I'd sit with them for the second half of the journey though.

See you soon,

Pete

Tuesday 22nd April 1977 (Marcus and Tobias Meadowes to Fabian and Gideon Prewett)

Dear Fab and Gid,

Moody's in. I reckon you two had already made up your mind but I spoke to Moody yesterday and he was seeing Dumbledore to give him his affirmative answer. Finding that poor kid was the last straw for Moody. It was horrific, he was the same age as our sister and your cousin.

Tobias and I are in. We don't really know what it's going to be yet but with Dumbledore on our side I reckon we have a pretty good chance, even if it's just information gathering. We're prepared to do whatever it takes to bring the Death Eater down, those fuckers are the reason our dad is dead and our mother is a shell of herself. Fuck them.

You guys are formidable I remember it well from our Hogwarts days, even though Tobias is a few years younger he knows it too. Him and I also make a pretty good team, between us we make a pretty good case if it ever comes to a fight, part of me even wants it to come to a fight.

We'll be in the Leaky Cauldron tomorrow at lunchtime if you need any more convincing. I don't think you will though.

Yours sincerely,

Marcus and Tobias

A/N: Did you enjoy? What did you think of the letter style? I hope i did justice to all our characters voices. What do you think's going to happen next? Let me know in the reviews and follow/favourite and all that to keep up with my extremely slow updates. Once again, thanks for reading, it's crazy it's been a year :)
