Bo stayed in that closet for a long time. She knew that she would eventually have to leave, but she didn't want to until she was sure that she wouldn't run into Pre. And she just had to think about what she was going to do. She… She had been tricked. She thought she was so smart, but really she was stupid.
She had believed Pre. She never would have thought he would have done anything to hurt her or her family, but he wanted to overthrow Satine and then… Bo didn't want to think about it. And yet…
After what felt like both forever and not long at all, she forced herself out of the closet. The office was dark and abandoned. The abandoned part that was the only thing that mattered. She wanted to find Lottie. She really did. Leaving her with Pre, it didn't feel right, even if he was her uncle. He had been so angry with her.
She had to do something, but where would he have even kept her? Bo paused, but then she went through the house. Whenever she heard so much of a creak, she would hide. She just had to find out if Lottie was here.
She wasn't.
Bo mouthed a swear word and then snuck out of the place. It was still night and darkness covered everything. Keeping her hidden. Maybe now she could have snuck away. There were others on Concordia. Yes, Pre was the governor here, but she could still maybe get help from someone else. She was the Duchess's sister after all and if she had to, she had no problem stealing someone's ship.
But Lottie. She couldn't leave Lottie.
So she went back to the camp. Before she did anything else, she went back to what was supposed to be her place and put her armor on. She had a feeling she might need it. It was pure beskar. Not all Mandalorians had armor made of pure beskar, and she doubted it would be any different here.
As soon as she got in her suit, she hurried to Ursa's. Maybe she could get Ursa to tell her where Lottie might be being kept. Maybe she could even get Ursa to help her, and yet even though she had known Ursa for years, she didn't know if she would do much to help her. She was part of Death Watch after.
Yes, she didn't seem to be fond of Pre, but she doubted it would make too much of a difference. She obviously believed in the cause. Asking Ursa for help was risky, but it wasn't like she had much of a choice, since she had no idea where they might be keeping them.
She was right in front of Ursa's place when someone grabbed her shoulder. Bo spun around, prepared to act. She kicked the person in the shin and pulled out her gun and pointed it at…
Lottie.
Lottie scowled and rubbed her shins. "Damn it, Bo. What's your problem?"
"I thought… I thought… I thought." Bo squinted and saw that Lottie's face was red and it looked like she was getting a black eye.
"I knew my uncle would let me go. He doesn't actually think I'll betray him." She shrugged. "He thinks I'm just going through a rebellious phase or maybe he doesn't want to upset his family. I don't know. I'm sure it won't last if I was to stay here."
Bo wondered if there was more to it. What if this was one of Vizsla's plans? And yet it wouldn't make sense if it was.
"We need to get out of here," Lottie said, pulling Bo into a hug.
Bo hugged her back. It felt like not many people had hugged her anytime soon. And they probably wouldn't. Satine would be furious with her probably. Maybe she would never want anything to do with her again, even if she told her that Vizsla was in charge of Death Watch. And that he wanted her dead.
But maybe she could go see her foster parents from the war or maybe she could travel the galaxy with Lottie.
"Then we need to get off this rock," Bo said, trying to force herself to smile, even though it wasn't real.
"Bo…" a small voice said, but Bo instantly knew who it was. She spun around and sure enough, there was Ursa. She was staring at her in her full armor. "You're—"
"Shut up!" Lottie said. "You shouldn't be talking to Bo." She pulled out her gun, but Ursa didn't even react. Bo doubted she even blinked, but it was hard to tell in the darkness.
"Bo-Katan, you shouldn't get mixed up in what Lottie's into." Ursa came over to Bo and reached out to put her hands on her shoulders. Bo staggered backward. She had always liked Ursa, but she was in Death Watch and…
"Did you know that Pre wants to kill my sister?" Bo spat out.
"It's… I don't think we need to do something like that," Ursa said. She looked down at the ground for a moment.
"That's not an answer."
"She knew," Lottie said. "She knew like everyone, but she didn't care."
Ursa didn't respond and kept standing there, not afraid. Ursa had always seemed like there was nothing she was afraid of. That was one of the ways that Bo had always admired her. She wanted to be brave like that.
Or at least pretend she was that brave. Maybe that was all Ursa was doing too.
It didn't matter.
"I'm trying to help you, Bo-Katan. I know that this… is upsetting." Yeah, that was an understatement. "I know your sister must mean a lot—"
"She's my sister. Of course, she means a lot to me." Bo thought her voice would break, but it didn't. "You should have told me all of this."
"It's not like I could. I would get in trouble with Vizsla. I want to stay alive. I want my family to stay alive," Ursa said. "And I tried to get you to not join Death Watch, but you… you're so close with Vizsla. I've been trying to protect you from him."
"I—"
"You've already joined Death Watch," Ursa said. "And Vizsla's not going to let you just walk away. You'll be in less trouble if you just—"
"If I just work with the people who want to murder my sister?"
"It's more complicated than that, Bo," Ursa said, using her nickname. Bo couldn't help but cringe, even though it sounded natural coming from Ursa. Bo knew that she should hate Ursa and everyone in Death Watch, but she didn't hate her. She liked Ursa despite everything.
And she didn't hate Pre either, which made Bo detest herself.
She should hate him. And the fact that she didn't made her loathe herself.
"Vizsla isn't going to let you leave, and if you try to, then it's going to get way worse for you. You don't want that. It… Being in Death Watch isn't easy, but you can make it work. If you try and escape, Vizsla will try and make your life a nightmare.
"I—"
"No, he won't just try and make your life a nightmare, he'll do exactly that and he'll get what he wants, Bo-Katan."
Bo shook her head. She wasn't going to listen to this. She wasn't going to be tricked by someone else. It was time that Bo started to think for herself. And if that meant ignoring what Ursa was saying then that was what she would do.
"You think you're my friend?" Bo asked.
"I know we're friends, Bo-Katan," Ursa said. "I've always liked you, ever since you were a little girl. I always thought…" Bo half expected Ursa to lie and say that she was special. Apparently, the people who thought she was special were liars. Apparently, she was just average. "And I know you think you can escape but no one can escape Death Watch. Not unless Vizsla is okay with it."
Lottie groaned and Bo could tell that she was rolling her eyes. "Don't listen to her. She doesn't know what she's talking about." She reached out for Bo. "We can escape."
"You can only escape if Pre wanted you to."
"So if we try to escape you're going to tell on us?" Bo asked, still managing to not show any emotion. For a brief moment, she was proud of herself.
"I… no," Ursa said. "I should but no. I just don't want you to mess up your future, Bo."
Bo wasn't going to listen to this. She just wasn't.
"Let's go," Bo said to Lottie. It didn't matter what Ursa said. They were going to get out of here.
Bo and Lottie took off. Bo did look behind and saw Ursa still standing there. Watching them. Bo wondered what expression was on her face. For a moment, she thought about what Ursa had said, but it didn't matter. She couldn't stay with Death Watch if they were going to try and kill her sister.
And she didn't believe Ursa. They could get out of here.
"You're really pregnant?" Bo asked when they slowed down.
Lottie sighed and rolled her eyes. "Do we really have to talk about this?"
"It's a big deal." Bo kept staring at her.
"I know it's a big deal." Lottie rolled her eyes.
"I can't believe that you wouldn't use protection." Bo hadn't thought that Lottie would be so careless.
"You don't understand because you're a child, Bo-Katan," Lottie said with a sigh.
"A child, really?" She wasn't that much younger than her. She didn't know how much she had to say that. It didn't matter if she still hadn't even been kissed when Lottie was apparently doing a lot more.
For a moment, Bo imagined what it would be like if she and Fenn had not just kissed but done more. What would it have felt if he had touched her? Bo was glad it was dark and she had her helmet on because she felt her cheeks heat up.
"You don't understand what it's like when you're with someone. The passion in the moment."
Now it was Bo's turn to roll her eyes. "Sure, Lottie."
"I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it at first," Lottie said. They kept walking. Really maybe they should be running but they couldn't run the whole time. "But I decided why not?"
"Why not?" Bo asked. This seemed a really casual response to keeping a child.
"Yeah, as you probably hear my uncle is super pissed about it. They want me to get rid of it and it pleases me to do what they don't want to."
"Lottie, that's not—"
"They can't control me."
Bo looked at her and then sighed.
"I'm thinking of giving it a name that means peace or calm or something. Think about how annoyed they would be."
"That's kind of stupid," Bo said.
"You wouldn't understand," Lottie said but she did. She understood wanting to be different than her family. It didn't mean that she would keep a child and give it a stupid name to annoy them.
Maybe Lottie was just telling part of the reason she was keeping it though to make it seem like less of a big deal than it was. Then it would be less scary.
"So what stupid name are you planning to give it that means peace,"
"Paz or maybe Pax. I don't know. I could change my mind."
"So you think it's a…?"
"A boy but it doesn't really matter." Lottie shrugged. "I don't really care what it is. I hope he's like me though. Feisty and not willing to put up with crap."
"I'm sure he'll be like that if you're his mother, Lottie." And Bo was sure about that.
They walked for a little bit longer. Bo could eventually see where the ships were being kept. She hoped that Lottie really would be able to steal one for them and that they'd be able to get out of here. Maybe this was really going to work.
Or so that was what Bo thought for a short time.
A very short time.
And then she saw him. Pre. There were owls in Bo's stomach. Owls that wanted her to run. And she did. Lottie reacted faster. Bo just needed to get to the ship. Both of them did and they were getting closer. Closer and closer.
Closer.
Someone grabbed her.
Pre laughed, pulling her tightly. She tried to kick him in the shins. He was able to avoid it. Bo screamed.
She broke away.
But then Pre grabbed her again.
There was a sharp pain in her neck. Oh stars… things were getting fuzzy. But Lottie… But Lottie… Bo saw her reach the ship. She was going to get away.
Lottie turned to face her. Bo couldn't see her face well, but internally Bo begged her to go. Just go. Escape.
And the last thing Bo saw was her leave. The last thing Bo felt was relief.
((AN:I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. The next chapter is going to be the last and it's a smaller chapter. I am planning a sequel after this is done, but I probably won't be posting it until May since I'm doing Camp NaNo. Thank you all for reading. I appreciate all comments.))
