Sorry for the wait. It has been a hectic time for me.
This is the last chapter I have made so far, so I don't know when I will submit more.
but until then, enjoy the story
Knowing they soon got people coming with a tree, every animatronic at Freddy's changed to their human form.
Well, almost everyone.
Bonnie couldn't transfer his mind to the human body for some reason, much to his confusion and annoyance. So he is forced to stay inside Parts and Service while the others are outside, handling the tree's moving.
Bonnie loathes staying in Parts and Service, not that he's afraid, nah, he has long gotten over what happened to him in the Toys former home. Yeah, he's past that. He just hates this tiny room with all kinds of tools that can tear his entire body apart if given enough time— but he doesn't worry about that. No, he is over that crap.
"This is stupid." Bonnie grumbles, tapping his foot from the overdrive his systems are doing; he is not aware of it, though. Busier grumbling to himself on how unfair it is he has to stay in this cramped room just because he can't transfer over to his human shape. "It's probably just a loose wire, an easy fix."
Bonnie turns to the door at the sound of it opening, turns out to be their mechanic. Good, that means he can get this issue fixed and get the hell out from here. From the look Thomas gives him, it seems he has only been put somewhat up to date. "Think I got a loose wire to the system connecting me to my human shape. Cuz I can't transfer over." Bonnie explains the young man.
His father said as much, and Thomas sure hopes he knows enough to fix this issue. He gestures to the table, and the very miffed Bonnie takes a seat. Has to pull the table down so he can reach the head. Thomas has to be careful though, Goldie did explain that every animatronic will instinctively protect that area. Bonnie flinches when Thomas touches the lid to the mainframe, "Warning the next time." The rabbit grumbles but does he does not move further. Thomas notes that Bonnie is extremely tense, not sure why, but he figures it's the urge to protect this very spot. He looks around for anything out of the ordinary but can't, which means he has to dig further down. Thomas steps away, and writes down 'I can't see the problem from the surface, I have to go deeper.'
Bonnie frowns at those written words, that's not what he wanted, but this issue has to be fixed. "okay? And that means?"
Is it just him, or does it look like Bonnie feels caught in a trap? Thomas decides to brush it off. 'I have to remove some of your coverings, maybe parts too. It depends how complicated this issue is.' he writes.
Great… just what he needed… "Fine." Bonnie replies through gritted teeth at the reenacting of that part. Thomas hesitates, a small furrow over his eyes. "What?" He demands.
'You seemed troubled.' Thomas writes.
Bonnie laughs and in a mocking tone. "Oh no, I am fully trusting you not to screw up my systems. You have all the training in the world, not a complete newbie, right Mr. not-a-educated-mechanic." Thomas narrow his eyes, not at all amused by that remark. Thomas gives the jerk rabbit a dismissive wave and goes over to grab the tools needed to remove the parts that work as a blockage for him to reach some of the more delicate functions of the animatronic's bodies.
These tools get put in the pockets of his tool belt, and with that set, Thomas goes back to Bonnie. Does gives him a sign that he will fiddle around again. Bonnie only moves in reaction to his waving hand, then sits completely still. Thomas takes that as a sign the rabbit knows what his handwave meant. He begins to remove the screws and carefully takes off this light metal covering, making sure the wires won't get damaged. Thomas has only a few times seen the inner workings of the animatronic and is still impressed by how sophisticated it all is. It's like a giant puzzle of parts, each working like an artificial body. Does making it very hard to figure out the mechanics who built the animatronics new shapes used for function. They didn't put the parts where they would be to a human. He does spot a small, round part and from how it is located where Bonnie's mouth should be, Thomas makes a good guess that it is the voice box. Checking further, he notices that some smaller computer is making a few sparks, something it shouldn't be doing. It's too far down, by his estimates, it should be where the human lungs would've been. Thomas puts the brain-computer back in place and then writes, 'I think I found the problem. One of your parts is making sparks, but it is located at your chest, so I need to turn you off and open you up there.' he hands the note to Bonnie.
Well, at least he found the issue, but Bonnie can't ignore the warning signals coming into his view. The system says his mind is overloading, but the spirit controlling this body knows better. And the fear of hurting someone again…
"Shit," he curses under his breath. Bonnie does not like showing weakness like this, but the last thing he wants is to attack Thomas. "Hey, before you turn me off. you…" he hesitates, mostly due to pride, but a mental kick and the knowledge about his limited self-control when it comes to this kind of terror. "You better ask one of the others to stick around."
Thomas gives Bonnie a look of confusion, more so when he recognizes that look in the rabbit's eyes. It was the same he had back when his father— back when he didn't know it was him— attacked him. Though where most would run away from danger, it seems that Bonnie is the type to try and fight what he perceives as a threat. For some reason, the rabbit finds himself in danger right now, which confuses Thomas. 'I'm not going to hurt you. I will be careful.' he writes on his notes.
"I know!" Bonnie cries exasperated, "but I can't shake off what those past mechanics did to me!" he's angry that even after all this time, he's still a fucking helpless bunny. Why can't he just get over it? He is safe, in good hands. So why the fires of hell can't he just calm the fuck down and let a mechanic do his work?! "I don't know what is going to happen when I turn on again, and the last thing I want is breaking someone's bones again."
It's strange to see Bonnie like this; he shows so much anger but emits a lot of fear too. Guess they have that in common… neither truly likes to show weakness. Thomas puts a hand on Bonnie's arm, making the rabbit look at him. He gives Bonnie a nod, which Bonnie returns. Thomas then shuts the rabbit down and leaves to find one of the others, in case Bonnie will go in attack mode when he wakes.
Thomas finds his uncle and knowing Jeremy worked at a former location, he decides to ask if he knows why Bonnie is freaking out during a repair.
"Shit, I forgot about that." Jeremy muses after he read Thomas's words; he keeps forgetting that the animatronics were also sentient back then. "They were so simple-minded back during those times, couldn't even talk." Thomas raises a brow in sign he is confused, so Jeremy elaborate, thinking he deserves to know the truth. "If I had known the bots were sentient back in the location I had worked at… well, let's say I wouldn't have wanted any child to go through such a thing. No adult either." Maybe Vincent: that bastard sure deserves that sort of torture he put his victims through. "We used the Gang as parts when the Toys would break— which happened fairly often."
And thanks to Goldie, Thomas knows that the animatronics can feel pain even through their wirings. They shouldn't have been able, but Thomas thinks it's because of their human souls, which may mistake the wiring for nerves. The sensors on their skin only improve this pain sensory, making them more acutely aware of how hard they can grab things or avoid certain dangers. Thomas is starting to understand why Bonnie got such an issue with the repairs, understandable if he was literarily torn apart by past mechanics.
'How bad was it for Bonnie?' He asks, mostly to get a better idea to how deep this trauma is.
"Bad, when I came, they had already torn off his face and claimed most of his eye sensors." This may have been the cause Bonnie to seek out lights as that would've helped on his limited sight. "And I helped the mechanic to remove one of his arms" Bonnie had fought back, but during those times, Jeremy mistook that trashing for serious malfunction of the systems. "I don't think he knew I was part of those people. Bonnie would never have let me forget about it." Thomas gives him a look. Oh right, he's not aware that once the bots didn't always have facial recognition. "In the place I worked at, only the Toys could recognize faces."
Good thing that's not the case anymore, it would've been quite the pain in the neck if the bots couldn't recognize faces. 'Thanks for letting me know.' Thomas writes to uncle, now aware of the trauma the Gang dealt with. It makes him much more considerable when either has to be repaired. Jeremy nods and Thomas walks outside. A quick scan and he asks Goldie to help him out with this possible danger Bonnie might become when he reactivates.
"Poor kid, I can't imagine how it must've been." Calem voices, feeling truly sorry that Bonnie and the others had to endure such a harsh experience. There is a silver lining in this though, "But it pleases me to hear Bonnie was able to recognize the issue on his own." Bonnie has always been terrible to admit he needed help, which made it hard to give the boy the desperately needed support. After have returned his human shape, Goldie reawakes in his animatronic form and follows Thomas back to Parts and Service. A nod from Spring's boy, Thomas begins to open Bonnie's chest up, revealing the puzzle that is now their bodies.
Goldie is impressed in how careful yet quick Thomas is in his work. He removes the batteries and only becomes less cautious when they aren't connected to Bonnie's systems. He removes other parts Goldie have no idea what their function is, only that Thomas does not disconnect them from Bonnie's body. He only moves them to the side so he can reach whatever he's aiming for.
It looks a bit weird to see Thomas have his hands deep inside Bonnie's chest, putting screwdrivers and whatnot inside as well. Goldie can't help himself; "Be sure you don't leave a screwdriver behind."
Thomas gives him a deadpan look, but the quivering at the mouth shows that he found that remark kinda funny. Goldie returns the look with a smile.
It takes a bit longer than it would if he had been doing repairs on a machine back in school, but unlike those, this machine has legit pain receptors, and the last thing Thomas wants is to add to the trauma Bonnie clearly deals with. Better this way, and slow but steady, he repairs this computer. Rebooting it and Thomas smiles at seeing it show a green light and not a single spark can be seen. A quick checkup for other damages finds a wire that is starting to break, so Thomas replaces it with a new one and looks fine with what he can see. He connect the batteries and carefully puts everything back before closing Bonnie off. A look to Goldie and he turns Bonnie on.
For a moment, the rabbit does not move, then he opens his eyes and Thomas feels a cold shiver when seeing them black; the same color his father had when he went berserk in Fazbear Fright. Goldie's arm appears before him and only there Thomas realizes that the golden bear has moved between him and the awakened Bonnie. Bonnie lies there with black eyes for a tense moment, then with a blink, the eyes are back to normal.
The rabbit groans and sits up, "Ugh… that was nasty."
"Doing alright there, sports?" Goldie asks, still staying between Bonnie and Thomas, in case Bonnie will relapse into his fear/attack mode.
Bonnie turns slowly to him, a bit too groggy to notice the tension. "Yeah, though it feels like I got thrown around like a sack of potatoes."
Thomas relaxes and finds some humor in that statement, 'It's how I felt after being through anesthesia.'
Bonnie blinks at this written statement and asks a bit dumbly, "Really?" Thomas nods and figures that what he did is a robot's equalize to be knocked out by anesthetics. He takes that. Thomas claps Goldie's arm, the bear gets the message and leaves with to Bonnie: "Don't push yourself too hard."
"Yeah… shit, I feel terrible." Bonnie groans, but he does not feel much pain, only his systems thinking he's low on battery while in reality he's over half in power. It is making his head hurt. Is this how a person feels when they say they got a headache? "Whatever you did, I think you managed to give a robot a headache."
Thomas laughs at this, 'I call that a win.' He writes, Bonnie is not amused, but his systems are being too stupid for him to come up with any good comebacks.
Of all the times he's going to need repairs… well, at least Mike has found a few ways to hide it when a malfunction happens. He opens the doors, about to greet his friends, but his words it interrupted by another: "What the fucking hell— what the hell did you do gear for brains?!" A very angry and very, very squeaky voice rang through the restaurant of Freddy's, making all the other animatronics look up from whatever they were doing and over to the Parts of Service. Mike did the same, just as dumbfounded as to who this high-pitched voice belongs to. "Oh fuck you! You better change my voice right back, or I will seriously kick your ass!"
Mike walks to the Parts and Service where the yelling is coming from. He does make a quick wave to Freddy, who does break away from the yelling to make a quick nod. Stepping inside the Parts and Service, Mike need a moment to understand the scene of a very agitated Bonnie, trying to reach a clearly laughing Thomas, who has sought protection behind a wall of crates with parts inside. "Uhh, what's going on?" He asks, confused about the scene meeting him.
Bonnie snaps away from trying to pull their mechanic out from his hidey-hole. "The gearhead messed with my voice!" He sneers with this squeaky mouse voice. It caught Mike so much off guard that he couldn't stop choking out a laugh. "It's not funny!"
'Yes it is.' Thomas signs from his spot, tears rolling down the man's cheek from how much he's laughing. Though barely a sound is leaving his mouth. Mike is not sure why Spring's son did this prank, only that he agrees it is pretty funny. 'Now we just got to make your ears round and we got Bonnie the squeaky mouse.'
"I'll make you squeak!" Bonnie throws himself at the crakes, though he's not angry enough to topple the whole thing and, in turn hurt the man that is currently not acting his age. "You're going to get a rubber duck down that throat of yours!"
Mike would like to stop Bonnie, but he's currently dying from laugher. At least someone can take this whole thing a bit more seriously. "Hey, would you two knock it out?!" Freddy yells at them at the door; he does not look amused at the whole thing. "The last thing I want is our spare parts break because you two need to act like children."
'Technically, you are still children.' Thomas signs from his hiding place.
Freddy sends their mechanic a deadpan look. "Technically, I am the one who decides your salary. Now, fix up Bonnie's voice. I rather not die again."
"What's that suppose to mean?" Bonnie asks, for a moment, forgetting about Thomas.
Freddy leaves the room, "You're hard to take seriously with that voice." he snickers, so not even the boss of the place finds the voice hilarious.
Bonnie glares at where Freddy was a moment ago, does snap back to the man out from his reach. "Fix. My. Voice." he sneers. Thomas lifts his hands in surrender, gets out from his spot and puts the pitch of the voice back to its original settings. "Don't do that again." Bonnie grumbles.
In which Thomas responds, 'If you don't mess with my tools again.'
"OCD much?" Bonnie asks mockingly, but from the look the man gives him, he groans, "Fine, fine, don't mess with the gearhead, got it." and he leaves the room.
'Serves him right.' Thomas signs to Mike, clearly quite proud of this prank. He then turns to the embarrassing chuckling Mike, 'Anything you need?'
Mike nods, "Yeah, my left arm malfunctioned." and reveals the issue when lifting said arm, the wrist glitches, so the hand moves as if it got a major tic. "I can't move my hand right." Thomas nods and removes the fake skin so he can look at the machinery. Mike watches the other man repair it and still can't believe that it's only a year ago it happened. Fortunately, life for him hasn't changed much, which means in his eyes; Nightmare lost that fight. Though he could do without these malfunctions. Thomas gives him the hand-wave he should try it out now. Mike rolls his hand and it obeys his command flawlessly this time around. He smiles "Much better. Thanks."
Thomas nods and while Mike puts on the fake skin, 'How is it going at the new location?'
"They are still finding their footings, but Chiara was quick to set everything straight." Mike replies and does smile at that memory. "Of course, she got help from our ghost child."
"Ugh, when are you going to stop calling me that?"
Both turn and Thomas replies to the mostly black puppet. Though the blue "uniform" does break up the dark colors. 'The same time they stop calling me the gearhead.' In other words: never.
Marion facepalm, "At least remove the child bit…" but figures there will go a while before that request is met. Whatever, nicknames discussions is not why he's here. "If you're not too busy, I am going to need some help at the new place." He speaks to Thomas.
'Okay' Thomas sign and grabs his tools, but before carrying the toolbox, he tells Marion, 'You could just have called.'
Marion smirks, "Now where is the fun in that?" and teleports back to the Toys home. Mike and Thomas eye one another, chuckle and they both head over to Mike's car to see what the Toys mechanic needs help with.
I don't remember who, but one of you readers suggested a chapter where Thomas would prank Bonnie, this is the outcome of that suggestion. I did for a moment consider making Thomas do the prank in the present time, but decided otherwise as that would only traumatize Bonnie further. but in the future, that rabbit is fair game XD
bit of a teaser of what is going to happen in future chapters (when I get so far in the story) and I sure hope I will get more ideas to furture chapters soon. I don't like making my readers wait this long, but something like this can't just be forced out.
chapter suggestions are always welcome, and I will hopefully see you soon again.
