Author's Note: Hello, readers! Okay, so here is the chapter for Infinity War, so you can probably tell that it is going to be extremely happy...
*Looks at camera like I'm on the office*
Also, for the movies, I shortened the time frame in which they took place, so like instead of ten years for all of the events of the movies, I only made it about five. Anyway, enjoy!
Tony: Happy week, guys.
Chapter 33: Memories 7
You aren't sure what woke you: the loud pounding and roaring, or the pain.
You slowly came to, feeling as though you were rising to the surface of a deep pool. As you came closer and closer to consciousness, you groaned in pain as your body throbbed. Everything hurt and ached so badly that you almost passed out again.
You tried rolling over, inwardly screaming as pain flared through your body. You gasped out a squeak as every fiber of your being hurt as though flame were rushing over every inch of you.
You put a hand on your forehead and felt something warm and sticky. Instantly, you snap your hand away, which makes your entire arm sting. Just from touching your forehead, your hand is now covered in blood. Or was it covered in blood before?
You close your eyes, trying to think of what happened. You were standing with Thor and Loki when…something made you all frantic. You were running to the main area of the ship to warn everyone when suddenly, something hit the ship. Everything was thrown about right before going black.
You try to get up when you realize that something is over you. Everything is completely black, even though your eyes are open. This sends a surge of fear over you, but you quickly calm yourself when you see light a little ways away. You reach up and push on something hard and flat. A table maybe? Or a collapsed wall?
You painfully pull yourself towards the triangle of purplish-red light. You cough, and you feel like someone threw a handful of gravel into your lungs. Your mouth and throat are painfully dry, and your face is covered in dirt, blackened by soot, and painted with blood. Lovely.
Your left arm hurts too much to move it, so you use your right to pull yourself out. You try not to scream as your vision turns red from pain. Once you are out, you might have to use the Power Stone to give you energy. Could the Reality Stone heal you? You'll give it a try, but you have to get out first.
You reach out into the light and grab large, heavy chunk of something before lugging yourself out all of the way.
You laboriously push yourself to your feet, stumbling and leaning on the chunk of what you think is metal. Your head spins, and you have to close your eyes.
Then, something crashes nearby, and you instinctually duck, fear sparking to life in your chest.
You look to where the sound came from to see Hulk, who looks almost unconscious. You look towards the middle of the room and see several figures, most of whom you don't recognize. The leader of them is huge, at least as tall as the Hulk. His armor looks made to accentuate his muscles, and something about him fills you with primal terror and rage. But, the emotions don't feel like they are from you. The Stones?
Then, you realize that whoever that guy was, he just defeated the Hulk. You almost burst forward to impale the space-grape on an icicle, but Natasha's words in your head pull you back.
Assess before attack.
Her first lesson that she drilled into you: don't attack until you know your opponent.
You crouch down, studying the scene. Thor looks half-dead and restrained with shards and scraps of metal, and Loki is being circled by several of the purple guy's guards.
A tall, spindly man that looks to almost have been made from silly-puddy walks forward, and your blood runs cold when you see the Tesseract being clutched in the figure's long fingers.
He kneels in front of his leader, holding up the glowing stone. "Thanos, no other being has ever had the might, nay the nobility to wield not one, but two Infinity Stones," he drawls, his voice raspy.
You smirk to yourself, but then you realize that you have never actually held more than one Stone.
"The universe lies within your grasp," the kneeling servant purrs, handing Thanos the Stone.
You feel the Stone calling to you, almost as though it is panicked. You quickly hide yourself from it, knowing that if the Thanos guy could sense you with it, you were dead where you stood.
Thanos holds the Stone in his hand and begins to squeeze it. The stone bends, and cracks splinter over the surface before it crumbles into tiny gem-like crystals. You put your hand over your mouth to keep from gasping. Did Thanos just crush the Stone? But, no, that would be impossible.
Thanos blows some of the particles away, revealing a glowing blue stone. The square was just a holding container, like Loki's scepter.
Then, Thanos brings his other hand up, turning it so that you have a perfect view. You stop breathing when you see the Power Stone. The Stone that had gone quiet. You had been trying to find out why for months and now you know.
You look at the glove encasing the purple gem with disgust. There is something wrong with that gauntlet and it makes you feel sick.
Thanos holds up the blue stone, and you can see whisps of energy floating away from the gem. As he holds it closer to the glove, the whisps start to draw into the gauntlet as though magnetically attracted to it. Thanos releases the Stone, and immediately, it is sucked into a socket on the gauntlet. Instantly, energy surges through Thanos before he gains control over it. The Stone still glows, but none of its energy is being released.
You silently open yourself up to the Stone again, to feel that it is frantic but also muted. The gauntlet somehow is keeping it from activating its power on its own. Terror rings through you as you realize that this new player has complete control over two Infinity Stones.
"There are two more Stones on Earth," Thanos says softly, admiring the sparkling gem. "Find them, my children, and bring them to me on Titan."
You mentally file away the word Titan. It has to be important, but you aren't sure what it is.
"Father, we will not fail you," says a woman who looks incredibly like a blue maleficent.
"If I might interject," a voice rings out, causing you to jump at the almost happy tone it holds. You watch as Loki, beaten and battered like you strides confidently forward, a charming smile in place.
Loki, what are you doing? You think furiously to yourself. You know that he wouldn't draw attention to himself unless he had a reason…or a last resort. Oh no.
"If you are going to Earth, you might want a guide," he says. "I do have a bit of experience in that arena."
"If you consider failure experience," Thanos says dangerously.
"I consider experience, experience," he corrects. "Thanos, I, Loki, Prince of Asgard…" he pauses, glancing sideways at Thor. "Odinson," he says quietly.
You blink when you realize what he just said. Had he actually listened to you in the prison on Sakaar?
"The rightful king of Jotunheim, Trickster, do hereby pledge to you, my undying loyalty," he says, clasping his hands into fists. You see the tiniest flicker of gold. Within a blink of an eye, Loki thrusts the knife forward, but just as quickly, Thanos's hand snaps out and grasps Loki's wrist.
Loki's face twists with pain when he drops his knife, and you go numb.
"Undying?" Thanos taunts. "You should choose your words more carefully."
Almost leisurely, he reaches out his free hand and grips Loki's throat.
Panic fills you and within a split second, you decide that you have assessed enough.
"No!" you shout. You jump into the circle of guards, and pound your fist onto the ground. A single icicle shoots up, slicing Thanos in the middle of the wrist and knocking him back, releasing Loki at the same time.
You make a cutting motion with your hands, and huge icicles jut up from ground, pinning all of Thanos's men in place by their throats. At the same time, a ring of fire erupts around you, caging Thanos and his soldiers in.
You slowly stand, your arms outstretched to keep your icicles ready. One of Thanos's guards rush past one of the icicles and jumps at you, only to be bulled into the ground by Fenris, who snarls in the guard's face before flicking his green eyes at you. You give an approving smile before glaring again.
Already, Loki is choking on the ground, but at least he is alive.
Thanos rubs his wrist where a bruise is already starting as he looks at you with amusement.
You glare so furiously that fire is dancing in your eyes. "Loki, get clear," you snarl, starring Thanos down.
"Now this is who I've been looking for," Thanos says. "Wielder of the Stones."
"Cool title. Not one I'm going to give up," you growl, and the icicles grow slightly larger.
"Then I am going to have to take it," he says.
"Not likely," you retort, your eyes flashing.
"Do you really think that you will be able to defeat all of my soldiers with a splinter of ice?" he taunts, breaking off the tip of the icicle that hit his wrist. "You are already outnumbered."
You realize with a sinking feeling that he is right. You may have them pinned for now, but you guess that ice won't be able to stop all of them. And, you are by yourself and only a human. Not only that, but they could use Thor and Loki against you. You slowly lower your arms and the icicles sink back into the floor. You are shaking from all of the adrenaline and anger coursing through you.
You quickly look at Thor, who is restrained in a pile of metal, Loki who is rubbing his bruising throat, and Heimdall who you can tell is already dying. You fight the tears that threaten to come to your eyes, not willing to show any emotion other than anger in front of Thanos.
You clench your jaw and steel yourself for what you are about to say. "Then take me," you blurt out before you can change your eyes.
Thanos raises an eyebrow, impressed.
"You said you wanted me. Leave my friends alone, let them live, and I will go with you without a fight," you say, lifting your chin defiantly. "But," you add, your voice turning ice cold. "You already know that I am the Mind Stone. I can feel my friends. If any of them suddenly are hurt, I will know if it is because of you, and I will be gone," you say, snapping your fingers. A whisp of blue energy floats around your hand for a second. While the Tesseract is restrained, you aren't. You have to act as a syphon for it. "But not before I burn you to the ground," you snarl, hoping it isn't an empty threat.
Thanos nods. "I believe you," he says. "I also believe that we have a deal."
Thor moans, and Loki tries to rise, only to fall back to his hands and knees.
You clench your jaw as you look at them, and you feel intense fear and your throat closes. You don't want to leave them. But this is the only way. You see how wounded they are, and you know that there is no chance they will survive another attack. You wish there was a way to change this…make it seem as though this never happened…
You look to where the Hulk is slowly coming to, only a few feet away from you. This might be the last chance you ever see him.
Suddenly, energy courses over you, sending you flying to the side. You shout in surprise, and you then realize that the Hulk is flying in front of you and Fenris behind you. You look around you and see the swirling colors that create a tube.
The Bifrost.
"No!" you scream, reaching back towards the disappearing ship.
Heimdall must have called on the magic one last time in an attempt to get you to Earth. Either to save you or to get friends. Now, there is no going back.
Suddenly, Hulk grabs you, and gravity suddenly comes crashing back down as you and Hulk are thrown through the roof of a building. You both hit the ground so hard that a crater appears, but you are more stunned than anything else. You shake off the feeling of dizziness as you climb off of the Hulk. He just used himself to take the brunt of the force so you would be okay.
You look back to thank him, but he is already shrinking back into Banner. But, on his other side, Fenris is slowly moving around, limping to a standing position. Somehow, the wolf looks smaller than he used to. He must have been close enough to get caught up in the portal.
"Y/N?" a voice calls from above.
You look up, but instantly shut your eyes from the blinding light cascading in from the whole in the ceiling.
"Doctor Strange?" you ask, shielding your eyes from the light. "Thanos is coming, we have to…um…," you pant, seemingly unable to catch your breath. You have to warn him, but also, you have to catch your breath.
You feel a slight tingle as magic encases you and slowly lifts you out of the crater. He gives Fenris a surprised look, but he doesn't say anything.
"Y/N, what happened?" he asked, grasping you by the shoulders and bending down to look you in the eyes.
You try to speak, but you are too dizzy. As your adrenaline slows, the pain from earlier returns with interest, and you wrap an arm around your torso. You remember being trapped after something large and flat had fallen on you. That was what hid you from Thanos. You suppose that being hurt like this is better than being dead, or worse.
"Strange," Wong's voice says. "Take a look at her."
Doctor Strange leans back, looks you up and down, before sighing. "I'm sorry," he says. He opens what looks almost like a portal, but it is more solid looking and doesn't throw off sparks. He moves it up and down before closing it. "No broken bones."
"Really? I feel like everything is smashed," you grumble. "Bruce, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but we have to hurry," he says worriedly. "We need to contact the rest of the Avengers. If Thanos is coming here, we need to be prepared."
You feel a stabbing pain in your chest, but it isn't physical. "Um, Bruce, there is something I need to tell you-"
"Not now," he says, waving you off. You feel rather offended, but you don't comment. "I need to find Tony or Steve."
"Wong, please help him get to where he needs to be," Doctor Strange says impatiently. "She needs medical help."
Wong leads an arguing Bruce out of the room, and you quickly rush over to Fenris, who collapsed on the other side of the room. You run your hands on either side of his face, caressing his thick, black fur. "You okay, buddy?" you ask.
Fenris tries to lick you with his black tongue, but to no avail. You run your hands over him, and he doesn't seem too badly injured. Fenris shakes his head and licks his snout before watching you intently.
"Anything broken?" you ask him. He has a slight smear of blood on his nose from a cut, and you feel hot anger burn inside of you.
"He's all right," Doctor Strange says, pulling you away. "The real question is how are you?"
"I feel like I've been thrown into a meat grinder," you grumble, massaging your eyes.
"Nice," Doctor Strange replies before he starts to use his magic.
"How are you not freaking out about my giant, black emo dog?" you ask.
Strange gives a slight smile. "Believe me when I say that I am not calm about any of this," he says, flashing some blue light onto you.
You suddenly feel as though you were given a gallon of sugar, and everything becomes sharper. "Whoa!" you say, stumbling back at the burst of energy. You fall into a sitting position on the stairs. "What did you do?"
"I just transferred some energy. Don't worry, it didn't hurt me," he says, calming your fears. "You need to get your body's functions working before I can start healing, so I decided to give it a jump start."
He begins to cast several spells, some that stay in front of his hands while others race through your body, tickling you on the inside. As he works, you tell him all that happened since you left. You feel heavy once you finish talking, and you long for a break from danger. After a few minutes, you can breathe without pain, your head is no longer pounding, and you can move easier. You still feel pressure as though you are at the bottom of a deep pool.
"I feel better but-"
"The pressure is from the wounds. While I may have cured the pain and most of the major wounds, your energy is still depleted, and you need sleep," he says.
Your eyes narrow. "I'm not going to take a nap while the world is in danger," you argue.
Doctor Strange runs a hand down his face. "Of course, you aren't," he says.
"Listen. I can't use two of the Infinity Stones because that purple alien guy took them. His glove somehow acted like a cage, trapping their power," you say. "I think if I use them, he'll sense it. I don't know what other Stones he has by now, so I think it is safe not to use them."
Strange nods. "How many stones do you know of?" he asks.
"Well, Mind Stone, Power Stone, Tesseract, Aether," you say. "I've used a little of all of those powers. I found out the power Stone more out of instinct. It was always louder than the rest. It was brighter, and more willing for me to use its power. Almost eager."
"You think that the Stones have personalities?" he asks.
You shrug. "Well, if there is a Stone that can manipulate peoples minds, I think it's safe to say that one does. And why not the others?"
Doctor Strange nods. "Interesting."
"Oh, I also know about the Time Stone. Never used that one though," you say thoughtfully.
"I wouldn't recommend it," he says. "It didn't really help me convince you that I was the good guy when I first met you."
You laugh at the memory. When Doctor Strange first approached you about learning more about magic and your powers, he really freaked you out. At first, he was in one place and then the other. And, when you felt him holding an Infinity Stone, that definitely didn't help. But, that was in the past now.
"There is one more Stone. Soul Stone," Doctor Strange says. "I'm not quite sure what it does."
"Me neither," you answer. "It was the quietest out of all of them. The Tesseract seemed the least harmful and more helpful. It is probably my second best in combat since I dealt with it in New York after gaining my powers. Aether and Power are too hungry to use too often."
Strange nods. "I think you are well enough," he says after a moment of silence. He gets to his feet, and you quickly do the same. "I think we should find your friend."
"Y/N," Bruce frantically strides over, looking a lot more stressed than you would like. "Could you please explain the importance of finding Steve or Tony and telling them about this? You've worked with them before, but he won't listen to me," he rants, pointing back at Wong.
"Found him," you point out to Doctor Strange. Then, you turn back to Bruce. "Listen, you have to calm down. I already told Doctor Strange everything. We just had to get some stuff sorted out first."
You give him a meaningful look, and he suddenly realizes how beat up you are. You aren't Asgardian, don't have the Hulk serum, and aren't a giant death dog. You may have the Stone's power, but you are still human. You were the one most hurt in the crash that survived. He groans, running his hands down his face. "Oh, I'm so sorry," he mumbles, but you put your hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, it's all right. Everything is hectic right now, just take a few deep breaths and know that everything will turn out okay," you say, smiling. "I'll make sure it does."
He gives you a weak smile.
You look over your shoulder to speak to Doctor Strange. "He is right that we have to alert…whoever will listen," you say softly.
The sorcerer nods and does a quick spell. "Looks like Tony is the closest, plus he is the only one I can actually locate," he says, giving you a soft look.
You clench your jaw and closes your eyes as Bruce asks, "What does he mean, Tony is the only one?"
You hold up a hand a shake your head. "You've been gone for a few months," you say. "We'll sort everything out. We'll have to." You nod to Strange. "Go get him."
"Are you sure?" he asks, looking into your eyes carefully.
"We don't have a choice anyway," you reply.
Doctor Strange agrees and then opens a portal. Bruce looks momentarily stunned, and you can see the gears working as he tries to figure out how the portal works.
"We should go meet him," Doctor Strange says, motioning for Bruce.
As they walk through, you fall back onto the stairs, rubbing your face with your hands. Fenris rises to his feet and pads over, a slight limp in his gate. He lays down next to you and puts his giant head on your lap, looking up at you with big, dark eyes. You scratch behind his ears, and his eyes roll back with pleasure.
"Are you all right?" Wong asks.
"Yeah," you reply. You never really new Wong that well, but you remember him being nice.
"I'm guessing that things still haven't been resolved," he continues.
You shake your head. "But, I do need to see him. Last time we saw each other, the entire team was ripping itself apart."
Wong nods. "So where did you get the dog?" he asks.
"His name is Fenris," you say, and the wolf's ears twitch at the name. "He used to be a bit of a bad guy, but it wasn't really his fault. Although, I can't feel my feet because of how heavy his head is."
Fenris looks up at you in a manner that seems to say, "I don't care about your feet. Pet me."
Then, Doctor Strange, Bruce, and Tony walk back through the portal. You jump to your feet, watching Tony closely. Fenris shakes his head and gives the tiniest of yips of annoyance at when you stood. But, at the new people, he moves back into the shadows, looking noticeably smaller.
Tony notices you immediately, and his brow furrows. "So, this is the other friend you were talking about," he says, pointing at you.
"Yes," Strange says.
You grab the stairwell to steady yourself, opening your mouth to say something, but then closing it when your throat tightens. You clear your throat a few times before saying something clever and meaningful, "Hi, Tony."
"Hey," he says. "Steve around too?" he asks, his voice growing a little harder.
You shake your head quickly. "No. Just me," you say.
"Huh," he replies. He looks like there is a lot he wants to say, you aren't sure if it is good or bad, but he keeps quiet. His gaze flicks to Fenris, who seems to be casting a judging look at Tony. "That dog thinks he's better than me," Tony says. "I didn't know dogs could send looks like that."
"Listen, Tony," you blurt out. "What happened, we have to put that behind us all. We have to work together because something is coming. His name is Thanos. He's bigger than anything we have ever fought before, and it will make New York look like a breezy day at the beach."
"That's pretty big," Tony says, but not in agreement.
You shake your head. "You know the Infinity Stones, right?" you ask. "I told you about them after I started to get my powers. You saw the damage they could do when in the wrong hands. There are six: Space, Reality, Power, Soul, Mind, and Time."
"Thanos has two of them," Bruce interrupts. "He's behind everything we have ever fought, he started it all, trying to get these Stones. He wipes out entire planets as he goes."
Tony starts to look serious, and you can see him thinking rapidly to himself. He looks up at you. "What's our timeline?"
You shrug. "It's impossible to say. He has Space and Power Stones. He has the glove thing that like acts as a cage or something," you stutter. "I could feel the power being quieted. I'm not using any Stones that I don't know where they are just in case he finds them. Because, he'll find me."
"Why is he looking for you?" Tony asks.
"Because she can control all of the Infinity Stones, or at least know where they are at. She can act like a leash," Doctor Strange says. "With her, Thanos could either control or find each Infinity Stone. If he finds all Stones, he could destroy life on a scale hitherto undreamt of."
Tony leans against a cauldron sarcastically, closing his eyes and rubbing his temples. "Did you seriously just say 'hitherto undreamt of'?"
"Are you seriously leaning on the Cauldon of Cosmos?" Doctor Strange asks as his cape whips out and slaps Tony.
Tony's eyes snap open, and he glares. "I'm going to allow that," he says warningly.
"That technically wasn't him," you point out. "It was his cape."
"Cloak," Strange corrects.
"Wait, that carpet is magic?" Tony asks.
You nod.
"So, what's its name? The Great Fashion Crime? Clifford Pelt?" Tony asks. Fenris growled.
Strange's eyes narrow.
"Boys, boys, you both have great facial hair, now can we quit arguing and focus?" you ask.
"If you insist," Tony says. "If these Stones are so important, why not find one first and destroy it?" he asks.
"We have one," Doctor Strange says, touching his necklace. "Time. But we can't simply destroy it."
"Why not? Thanos can't get all six if one was chucked down the garbage disposal," Tony responds.
"Do you have any idea what that could potentially do to Y/N?" Strange asks angrily.
Tony side-glances you before relenting. "I guess."
"You've got a point on finding them first, though," you say. "If we have them, the playing ground will be level."
Bruce nods excitedly. "Great, we've got a plan. I think we should get Vision first, since he has one," he says.
Tony rubs his forehead with his thumb, as you grunt, "Yeah, that's gonna be a little difficult."
"Why?" Bruce asks.
"Vision turned off his transponder," Tony replies. "He's off grid."
"So wait, he's lost?" Bruce asks incredulously. "How do we find him?"
Tony gives you a look, and you raise your hands. "Hey, I've been gone for a few weeks." While you were only with Thor for a few days, you were with Doctor Strange learning more about the Stones.
He raises an eyebrow as though agreeing with you. "Steve might now," he says quietly.
Doctor Strange sighs as though preparing for drama, and you frown worriedly.
"So call him," Bruce prompts.
"Not that easy," Tony says.
"The Avengers are disbanded," you continue. "Whole team had a falling out."
"Wait, we broke up?" Bruce asks. "Like the Beatles?"
"We're not on speaking terms," Tony says.
You sigh heavily. Slowly, you walk over to Tony, looking up at him earnestly. "Tony, this is bigger than us. It always has been. That's why we went out to fight Loki the first time, because it was time to step up. I have no idea where Thor is, so we need all hands on deck. We don't have the time to fix everything. We just have to pick ourselves up and do what is right. That is what the Avengers stand for: pushing through the hard times to get the right stuff done."
Tony half-smiles for a moment. "You really sound like Cap when you talk like that, you know," he says. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a flip-phone, snorting at how old it looks. He flips it open, and his finger hovers over a button. But he hesitates.
"Tony," you sigh softly, but he holds up a finger. He whirls to look at Doctor Strange. "You wouldn't by any chance be moving your hair, would you?" he asks, and you notice one of the doctor's locks is fluttering.
"Not at the moment, no," he says.
Suddenly, Fenris lets out a low growl that makes the room vibrate. He stands and looks up, his ears pinned back.
"That doesn't look good," Tony says. For never having seen anything like Fenris, Tony doesn't seem surprised.
"Something is outside," you warn, and everyone rushes to the front door, Tony pocketing the phone. Fenris bounds after you, staying close to your side.
You all burst out of the Sanctum to see debris flying everywhere as dust clouds the air. Your hair is blown away from your face and you cough by all of the dust. People are scrambling everywhere, fleeing from something you can't quite see yet.
You follow Tony, who helps up a woman and orders Wong and Doctor Strange to help a man in a crashed car.
You hope that no one notices Fenris, but when you look, he seems to be smaller. You look at him and can tell how big he is, but when you look away, it is almost as though he is shorter in your memories. Maybe it is a sort of camouflage thing he has. He still has a large presence, but he is definitely smaller.
"Bruce, Y/N, you're with me," Tony says. "Friday, what am I looking at?"
You just hear the AI's voice stating that she can't see through the grit.
"Doc, you might want to put that Stone in your back pocket," Tony warns.
"Might want to use it," he replies, spells at the ready.
"Bruce, keep an eye on Y/N," Tony orders.
Doctor Strange, casts a spell, and the dirt and wind blow back, revealing an enormous space ship hovering over the city.
"That looks fun," you say, and you are suddenly glad that you are still wearing armor from your last adventure.
Three figures appear from a beam of light shot down by the ship, and you recognize all of them from before. "Hear me and rejoice, for you are about to die at the hands of-" he drawls, and you grimace.
Fenris growls, his head low and his paws scraping into the concrete.
"Sorry, Earth is closed today," Tony interrupts. "You better back it up and get outta here."
The leader of the group looks to Doctor Strange. "Stonekeeper, does this chattering animal speak for you?"
"Certainly not, I speak for myself," he responds, conjuring up shields. "You are trespassing on this planet."
"He means get lost, Squidward," Tony speaks up, and you smirk.
"He exhausts me; bring me the stone," the alien, now dubbed Squidward orders.
The other aliens begin to move forward, grunting in their own language.
"Banner, you want a piece of this?" Tony asks.
"Not really, but when do I ever get what I want?" he asks himself as he begins to unleash the Hulk.
You take a step back as green seeps up his neck, but that is it. Bruce grits his teeth as though he is lifting something heavy.
"Are you okay?" you ask, earning Tony's attention. The giant alien is starting to get closer, his scythe digging a rut in the concrete. Fenris wearily looks from you to the alien and back again.
"Yup, I'm good," Bruce grunts. "Come on," he growls to himself. He turns a little more green, but nothing else happens.
You cast a worried glance over at Tony. "I don't think he's okay," you say.
Tony looks even more stressed, but he pushes Bruce back a little. "Hey, it's okay. Work on it," he says grumpily. "Wong, keep an eye on him."
Wong nods dutifully, watching the fast-approaching alien closely.
"Okay, who keeps an eye on me?" you ask. Normally, you are fine fighting by yourself, but when creepy purple alien dudes are coming after you specifically, you would like some back up.
"Group effort," Tony says.
"Yay. I feel so much safer," you retort.
Tony taps his arc-reactor, and red metal bits seem to form out from the reactor, spreading over his body until he is wearing an Iron Man suit.
You take a step back, smiling impressively. "Love the new look," you say.
"Nanotech," he responds.
"Okay, guess it is my turn to show off," you say, opening your palms. Instantly, ice flows up your arms like a backwards river of frost. The ice encases all of your armor, turning it a reflective silver, and blue frost adds designs on the edges. Some of your frost creeps up your face to form a mask over your eyes, and the rest flows up into your hair, styling it away from your face.
Tony raises an eyebrow. "Not bad," he says as you turn to admire your mirror-like, glassy armor.
"Thanks. I've been practicing," you say. "Heads up!" you warn as the alien suddenly begins to run.
"Got it," Tony says, instantly raising his hands. His armor seems to gather onto itself to form a shield over him just as the alien's scythe spears downward. The scythe collides with the shield, knocking Tony onto his knees, but giving you a clear shot. You instantly throw a monstrous icicle at the alien, hitting him squarely in the jaw and causing him to fly backwards into a building.
He climbs out of the rubble, growling. Just as he starts to attack, parts of Tony's armor float off to make additional blasters.
Tony fires everything into one single column of energy that explodes into the alien's chest. The alien skids backwards towards Squiddward, who casually flicks a hand and causes the other alien to flip into a building.
You suddenly remember that Squiddward was the one to hand Thanos the tesseract. By his telekinesis, you guess that he was also the one to restrain Thor. Your anger flares, and you turn to your friends.
"Tony, Wong, keep the big ugly busy. Doctor, protect the Stone. That one is mine," you say, pointing to the long alien.
"Look who's giving the orders now," Tony says.
"Well, lets just hope it works," you respond, clicking a few buttons on your bracelet.
"Wait," Tony says, holding your wrist. You look up at him, a bit shocked. "You…still have the bracelet? The one with the hover board?" he asks.
You nod seriously. "I never go anywhere without it," you say quietly. Then, you shrug. "I mean, it does go with the outfit."
"Yeah, that's why I made it," Tony says quickly.
With a few taps to the bracelet, you jump onto the hover board, which takes you over the battle. "Fenris, come!" you shout. He lets out a roar-like bark before leaping after you.
Instantly, the alien raises his hand and a circular chunk of concrete rises from the ground, spinning towards Fenris like a Frisbee that is easily thirty feet across. Fenris's ears pin back even farther and he growls as he pushes himself to go faster. In a split second, he jumps, snatches the chunk of concrete before spinning it back towards the alien. He raises his hand and the concrete cracks in the middle, sending both parts flying in different directions.
You dive at the stringy alien. "Incoming, Squidward," you shout, throwing an icicle at him.
"My name is Ebony Maw," he says, waving his hand and sending your icicle spearing back towards you. You twist out of the way, but with another wave, your board suddenly jumps out from under your feet. You yelp as you are sent crashing towards the ground, but Fenris jumps so that you land on his back before sliding down to the ground.
You jump onto your hover board again, weaving around the trucks and debris that Ebony throws at you. You grind your teeth when you realize that you can't get a clean shot. Even when you get close to him, you don't have time to conjure ice before he is knocking you aside.
Then, an idea pops into your head, and you dive bomb him.
He snarls at you before flicking his hand. Your board is once again torn out from under you, and as you fall, you watch as the board, still under Ebony's power, floats behind the debris Ebony is controlling. Then, you smirk as you see that your board has a clear shot and is also using Ebony's power at the moment.
You slam your fist onto your bracelet, and the boards starts firing. Ebony growls in frustration as he backs out of the way, only for one of your icicles to slice him on the cheek.
Right before you hit the ground, you create a snow cloud that cushions your fall.
Ebony has blood seeping down the side of his face, and his eyes narrow. "I believe that you should take a time out," he says, shoving his hand outward.
Suddenly, the ground beneath you shoots up, catapulting you, screaming, into the sky. Fenris howls before continuing his attack.
You quickly fly higher than the buildings, and you feel fear stab your heart as you realize that you are arching back down over a park. No amount of ice blasts will stop your fall. You still press your bracelet, calling your board to you, but it won't get there in time.
The buildings appear in your peripheral vision, looking a lot pointier than they did before.
Suddenly, something slams into you, and you are swinging back up again.
You latch onto whatever it is and slowly open your eyes to see blue and red.
"Hi, there! You shouldn't fall like that: it's bad for your health," Spider-man says, using one arm to hold you while the other shoots a web to continue swinging.
"You!" you shout in astonishment.
"Yup! Luckily for you, your friendly neighborhood Spider-man was in the not-so-friendly neighborhood," he says.
"Um, thanks," you say. The last time you had seen him, you were trying to kill each other (not entirely literally).
Spider-man swings to the ground and sets you down. "You know, maybe someday we will actually meet without our masks. Sorry though, got to fly. I'm, um, supposed to be chasing a wizard, but I saw you falling."
You frown. "There isn't such thing as wizards," you say. "He's a sorcerer."
Spider-man shrugs. "Tomato, tomato," he says. "Bug out!" he launches a web before swinging away.
As soon as Spider-man is out of view, your board flies back towards you, stopping to hover in front of you. "Oh, now you make an appearance," you grumble. The board tilts as though giving you a questioning look. You frown. Could boards do that?
You climb up onto the board and fly high to get a view. That is when you realize something incredibly important: the alien ship is gone.
You're gaze flicks around until you spot a portal being spun in a park. You dip the nose of your hover-board down, and you slice through the air, landing right as the portal closes.
"Bruce!" you call, running towards him. "What just happened?"
"They got the Doctor, and Tony and another super went off to save him," he explains.
"What? Okay, um, I'm fresh out of ideas," you say in a panic.
Bruce smiles holding up a cell phone with a familiar number on it. "I think I have one."
"I hope you're right about this, Cap, or we're gonna land a lot faster than you want to," Sam says warningly as he guides the Quinjet lower.
You give him a small smile as you look at the uninhabited forest, but you know better. After all, you've been here a few times.
It's a little disorientating when the jet flies through Wakanda's barrier. Everything wavers as though the jet is under water before clearing. The capital city of Wakanda stands large and proud and looks very futuristic. Each building looks like a black spike jutting up from the ground and tapering to a sharp point. The city is different from most metropolises, and you have the strange feeling that none of it is real. But, the jet lands easily next to the capital building, giving you a good view of the rest of the city.
You have a hard time dragging your attention away from the unofficial ninth wonder of the world as you walk out of the jet. You catch up to follow Steve, trying to look impressive. Though you have been here many times, the city is always breath taking and easy to get distracted with.
Fenris rises to follow you, but you quickly signal him to stay. He looks grumpy and puts his nose down between his paws. It took quite a lot of convincing to get Fenris onto the ship and even more convincing to get your friends on after him. Ebony Maw had gotten away from the wolf, and so, naturally, Fenris wandered around until he found you. At that point, Steve had shown up. He was extremely cautious around the dog, but he trusted your judgement. Sam, on the other hand, was adamant that he was not going to fly with a killer dog on the ship. It was about an hour before everyone was finally in the jet.
"Seems like I'm always thanking you for something," Steve says, grasping King T'Challa's hand in a hard handshake. His words bring you back to the present, and you give the king a nod. Whenever you are here, you usually talk with Shuri rather than her brother. He can be intimidating, but you can tell by how the kingdom is prospering that he is a wise king.
"Um, I kind of brought a giant wolf with me, I hope that's okay," you say extremely awkwardly. Speech in front of a king: 0.
As though he knows you are talking about him, Fenris crashes out of the ship, making the boarding ramp bend under his weight. The guards around him instantly crouch and point their spears at him, but the wolf couldn't care less. He looks around and sniffs the air enthusiastically, pacing in a circle before walking over to you. You have to physically hold him back from sniffing T'Challa, which is almost impossible. At a gesture from the king, the guards lower their weapons, but they definitely do not look happy.
"Yeah, uh, this is Fenris," you say, smiling as he nearly shoves you out of the way.
"That is a big dog," T'Challa says, pointing. You smile as you remember that is exactly what Steve said.
"Oh, I kind of forgot you guys aren't too big on dogs, are you?" you ask, your eyes flicking to all of the panther statues.
T'Challa smiles at your attempt at humor. "He will be all right, but he should probably stay outside buildings."
"Yeah," you agree as you try to shove him back before falling over as he suddenly turns around to sniff something else.
"How big of an assault can we expect?" T'Challa asks, turning to Steve and ignoring you as you pull on Fenris's tail.
"Uh, sir," Bruce interrupts awkwardly. "I think you can expect quite a big assault."
"If you have seen videos of the Battle of New York, then this one will definitely outshine that one," you grunt as Fenris flicks you away with his tail. "Long story short, aliens are here for that guy's jewelry," you say, pointing at the Stone in Vision's forehead.
T'Challa gestures for some of his guard to escort Vision and Wanda to another building. As soon as Vision is about thirty feet away, you feel your headache fade and you give a sigh. Your muscles were tight, your head throbbing dully, and you had a slight dizzy feeling. You were too close to Vision for too long. If you are near him for long periods of time, your begin to feel physically sick. The Stone belongs to you, but it resides on him. He has a slight connection to it that allows him to use it mostly for beams. He has none of the mental properties that you have. Basically, he can control it the same way Loki could. However, since he is actually touching it, it makes things a little more complicated.
You pull on Fenris's tail hard enough that he looks at you indignantly. Then, you push all of your might down on top of his butt so he sits. "Stay," you pant, pointing at him. Fenris snorts derisively.
"How are our defenses?" Natasha asks as you join them.
"You will have my kingsguard, the border tribe, the dora milaje, and.." he trails off.
"A semi-stable, 100-year-old man," Bucky says, striding forward.
You smile when you see him as he and Steve give each other a quick hug. "Hey, my turn," you say as soon as they let go.
"How're you doing?" Bucky asks you.
"Good. I actually feel kind of pumped to save the world," you say.
Bucky is the reason for your many trips to Wakanda. After the team split, most everyone on Steve's side hid in Wakanda for a while. While you were there, you helped Bucky with his mental troubles because of your Mind Stone powers. Your powers helped speed up the process by a few years. You were able to clear most of the mind-washing and left over programing out of Bucky's mind, but some of it he still had to work through himself. You and he had grown closer over your sessions.
You feel Steve's hand on your shoulder, dragging your thoughts back to the present.
"We're all going up to check on Vision," he says. "You, stay down here with Buck and Sam."
You nod, giving him a grateful smile. "Right. Thank you," you say.
The smile Steve gives you lets you know that he realized how much you were hurting because of how close you were to Vision. He is giving you a bit of a break before the battle.
Your smile fades as you watch Steve walk away. You have a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach.
"So, big dog," Bucky says, pointing.
"Ugh," you say, lolling your head back. "I know. He's also very subtle," you say. Fenris wags his tail when you give him a grumpy look.
"I like dogs," you hear Bucky whisper under his breath.
"You can pet him if he sits still and lets you get close enough," you say. "He is still working on manners."
Bucky eagerly walks right up to the dog and begins to pet him. Fenris wags his tail, his eyes growing bright. "Good boy," you hear Bucky quietly fawn.
"Oh, so you like him," you grumble at your dog.
"You want this?" Bucky asks, producing a stress-ball that you guess he has never used. He waves it around in front of Fenris's nose, and the dogs eyes follow it quickly. "Come on!" Bucky urges, and Fenris suddenly leaps down with his nose to the ground and his tail in the air before jumping back and forth excitedly. "Good boy! Go get it!" Bucky shouts, chucking the ball with his metal arm. The ball sails so far that you lose sight of it.
Fenris gives a playful bark that rattles your eardrums before he bounds after the ball, leaving cracks in the ground where his massive paws hit.
Bucky smiles excitedly to himself as he watches Fenris go.
"Pff. Nerd," Sam grunts under his breath.
You ignore Sam as you watch Fenris run. You smile softly, but then, you look over your shoulder to where Steve had gone. You frown worriedly. You can feel the tension of an upcoming battle in the air, but you have a strange feeling about this one.
"What do you think of Steve's new beard?" Bucky asks, his tone teasing.
You shrug, smirking. "I think he's going through a mid-life crisis," you joke.
"I think he might have gone through a few mid-life crisis," Bucky laughs back.
"I think he's just trying to get a feel for the younger generation," Sam adds.
Bucky sends him a quick glare.
"What, I can't tease Cap behind his back?" Sam asks.
"No," Bucky responds darkly.
"Why not?" Sam demands. "She can!"
"Because she's Steve's friend," Bucky says.
"Yeah. So am I," Sam growls.
"Yeah, but guess which friend you aren't-"
"Guys!" you interject. "Could you please not?" you plead, clasping your hands together.
They both send each other one last glare before turning their backs on the other.
You shake your head.
Fenris then crashes into view, skidding thirty feet and plowing through the concrete before sitting and dropping the ball with a huge hole onto the ground. Greenish slobber pools around the ball, and Fenris looks very pleased with himself.
You laugh as you notice that there seems to be more hole than ball. Fenris deserves to play a bit after all he had gone through.
Suddenly, alarms blast through the city, causing everyone to jump. Fenris jumps back before growling.
Everyone looks at the sky as something seems to crash through it. Explosions from something entering the atmosphere peppers the sky.
Sam pushes his comm. "Hey, Cap, we got a situation here," he says, his eyes never leaving objects.
"I think they're ships," you say with a sinking feeling. You have felt fear before, but never like this. Not even when you were facing Loki in New York. This is a suffocating, primal fear that makes you want to run. The word repeats over and over in your mind, but you grit your teeth and plant your feet, forcing your breathing to stay steady. You do, however, feel more comfortable now that you are wearing your original super-hero suit that Steve had packed on the jet.
Just as the ships start to get close, one hits the shield above the city, sending fragments splintering off in every direction. You can see the slight lines of the shield flicker with lights as electricity pulses through the shield. It seemed to easily deflect the ship, but you can tell by its energy waves that it did take effort.
"I love this place," Bucky says almost dreamily.
"Science-geek," Sam grunts.
"Yeah, don't start celebrating yet, guys. We've got more incoming outside the dome," Rhodes voice crackles over the comms.
You can see the ships as they crash into the earth. When they land, the ground beneath them almost seems to liquify, and waves of earth and dirt crash against the dome.
"Well," Bucky says, taking the safety off of his gun. "This is going to be fun."
There are too many of them. The monster-like aliens are crawling everywhere and are so thick that you can't even see any of your friends. The aliens seem to boil over the land, taking everything down. All around you, you hear the chaos of battle: screams, clanging of metal, war-cries…
The crazed aliens are surrounding you on all sides, getting closer and closer. You don't use the Stones, but you open all of your ice reserve. Panic seizes you, and ice sporadically explodes out of you. You suddenly feel cold spread throughout your entire body, and there is no bringing it back.
Ice shoots out of you in bright flashes like fireworks. Fire flickers all around you, bursting forth in red-hot waves. Vines churn from your feet, through the ground and latchs onto the aliens before dragging them under the ground. Beneath you, the earth cracks, swallowing hordes of alien beasts. Spikes of rock jut out of the ground before sinking back in again. All around you, the ground churns as you feel your power flowing through you in overwhelming waves that you have never felt before.
The clouds circle down around you in a cyclone of snow and fire flows up and around you. You can't even think, all you can do is feel. Feel every grain of dirt beneath your feet and your power courses through it. Every particle of ice as it freezes, disperses, refreezes and cracks. Each flicker of flame as it burns everything around you before it is frozen by your ice. Every leaf of your vines as they course through the ground.
Everything pulses out from you, completely absorbing the Outriders. More try to get close to you only to be disintegrated by the sheer force of your energy.
You fell to your knees as the power begins to overtake you. You look at your arm to see frost freezing over it as fire dances around your fingers and vines creep up your wrist.
You try to control it, but it is as if you can't think anymore. All you can do is freeze, grow, and burn. Your breathing becomes heavy as through the fog you register that you can't stop this on your own.
Now, you can't even see out of the dome of wind, ice, fire, and earth that surrounds you and hundreds of Outriders.
"Stop," you gasp, bracing yourself on the ground. "Just stop."
Your fingers are getting harder and harder to move as ice envelopes them, but you feel incredibly hot as fire snakes around your body.
You feel tears freeze onto your face as you feel the cold in your heart spread. "Just stop!" you say. You aren't sure if you whispered the words or screamed them. "Steve!"
Suddenly, lightning crackles through the air, spiraling down from the sky before crashing into the planet. The ground shakes, and as soon as the lightning hits your storm, everything explodes, sending you flying backwards. You don't even register that you hit the ground. You gasp in air as you suddenly realize that you can think.
The ground around you is blackened in a spider-web pattern. You suddenly feel hands helping you sit up, and you try to shake off the dizziness.
"Y/N, come on, wake up," a voice says, and someone gently pats your cheeks.
"Steve?" you ask, turning to look at him.
"Yeah, we got to go," he says, hoisting you to your feet.
"What happened?" you ask as Steve helps limp you over to a tree.
"Thor. He really knows how to make an entrance," Steve says. "His lightning kind of kick-started you out of…whatever that was."
"Yeah," you say, shaking your head again. You look around as the Outriders start closing in again.
"You okay?" Steve asks, his shields ready.
You nod, tentatively touching your ice with your subconscious. It seems to have calmed down. You guess it acted instinctively since you have never felt that kind of fear before. Not only that, but the Stones are in danger and you guess that the powers can sense it.
"Just to let you know, I saw Fenris having the time of his life protecting citizens," Steve says, a tinge of laughter in his voice.
You smile, "Thanks." You weren't very worried about the wolf who was more than happy 'playing' with his new chew toys.
Thor's weapon swings in wide arch's, electricity sparking off of it as it smashes through any alien trying to get close.
You realize that he is also giving you cover.
You look around to see…a…tree? And, um, a racoon. Where's Loki?
Thor's axe throws another alien away, and he turns to look at you, a worn smile on his face.
"You have a new weapon," you say, admiring the large axe right as it cleaves an alien in two. "Um, and an eye…"
Thor nods, rearranging his grip on his axe.
"New haircut?" Steve greets.
A smile breaks out on Thor's face, and now he really does look like Thor. "I noticed you copied my beard," he teases.
Steve shrugs apologetically.
"By the way, this is a friend of mine, Tree," Thor introduces.
You gasp and jump when the twig-dude suddenly sprouts a long spike that spears through several aliens. "I AM GROOT!" he shouts, sounding strangely like Vin Diesel on helium. Huh.
"I am Steve Rogers," Steve says. You can't help but laugh when you realize that Steve isn't joking. He's just being Steve.
"Uh, I am Timberwolf," you say before swinging around and sending an icicle spearing into another alien.
Suddenly, Sam's voice crackles over the comm. "Guys, we got a Vision situation here," he warns.
"Someone get to Vision!" Steve shouts.
"Got it," you growl, jumping onto your hover board.
"Wait, I'm coming too," Steve says, rather clumsily climbing up onto the board. The back of the board sags, and you would have slidden back if your boots and board didn't have the connector pads that held you in place during flight.
"Should I come, Captain?" Thor asks, but Steve shakes his head.
"Stay here. We need you to take out those ships," Steve orders, earning a nod from Thor.
"You ready?" you ask as your board starts to get higher.
"I jump out of planes without parachutes. I'm good," Steve says, a roguish smile breaking out onto his face.
You board zooms over the forest, and you are surprised that Steve can stay on. The board is a little harder to maneuver, but you manage.
You feel the tug of the Mind Stone, and you follow it in a straight line, dodging flying debris as you go.
"There!" Steve shouts, pointing. Your gaze flicks to the forest, scanning the trees for the robot.
Suddenly, without warning, Steve dives off of the board. "Steve!" you shout in astonishment, zipping after him.
Steve crashes into one of Thanos's guards right as he is about to spear Vision.
"Get out of here, go!" he shouts before attacking the guard. The guard almost easily beats Steve back, flipping him onto the ground before raising his weapon to kill him.
You fly low and ram the alien with the hover-board. The alien roars in anger, reaching out to grab you while swinging his spear around. You bend back, flat against the board, which angles the board up before snapping it over you, sending the alien careening off.
You land the board and run towards Vision, only to stumble back as something pulses painfully in your mind. You grunt, rubbing your head as you realize that you got to close to the Mind Stone. Not only that, but it was telling you something. Then, you feel five Stones flicker into existence.
Your blood runs cold just as Wanda lands next to Vision.
"Thanos," you pant, giving your friends weary looks. "He's here."
Everyone looks around, and you suddenly realize how silent everything is. The wind blows softly, sounding strange in the trees. Everything feels…empty. The forest is deathly silent, and you suddenly feel colder.
"On my position, we have incoming," Steve says softly into his com.
You feel a pull in your gut and suddenly, the scenery in front of you seems to collapse in on itself, pulling into a black whole with blue light surrounding it. Thanos, in full battle armor, steps through, his dark eyes scanning the area.
"That's him," Bruce says quietly.
"Eyes up, stay sharp," Steve orders, glaring at the alien.
You and Steve slowly advance before breaking out in a run towards Thanos. He sends a wave of purple energy cascading towards you. With a flick of your hand, you dispense it, but it hits Steve, making him fly back into a tree. Your fear instantly turns into anger, and you thrust your hands forward. Blue energy explodes around you, enveloping Thanos. Thanos shouts in surprise and pain as the energy courses through him, causing the other Stones to flare up as well.
He clenches his gauntlet, and purple light flashes, eating away at the energy. You gasp as you feel the blue light being attacked forcibly by the purple. Before you can attack again, Thanos kicks you in the chest with so much force that you skid into the ground.
"So much power," Thanos taunts as he watches you. "And no idea how to use it."
He clenches his fist towards you, and all the Infinity Stones flicker. Energy rolls out of the gauntlet towards you, but it seems to hit an invisible wall before it can absorb you.
Pain erupts all over you and you scream. All of the lights inside of you seem to lash out in pain too, and you feel your energy exploding crazily. The pain is blinding and you can't feel anything except for the lights. You feel as though you are being broken apart along with the Stones.
Suddenly, mercifully, the pain stops, leaving you gasping on the ground, completely limp.
"Interesting," Thanos says softly as he walks past you. You can't even bring yourself to raise your hand you are so exhausted.
The Stones can't be turned on each other, which is what Thanos just did. As their energy was forced to attack you, their own energy was being hurt in the process. Almost like shinning a light in a mirror send the light reflecting back. All Stones are connected, so each Stone feels the same thing. One Stone couldn't be destroyed without destroying another.
Pushing past the crushing exhaustion, you laboriously roll yourself over. Dully, you hear and see your friends attacking Thanos. You feel as though you were kicked in the stomach when Thanos full-on punches Steve, knocking him to the ground. You feel his life-force flickering. Then, everything turns red as Wanda's magic shines into the Mind Stone. Waves of energy flow over the clearing, physically pushing Thanos back while pushing into the Stone.
Red Energy suddenly appears around you, but it doesn't hurt. You are filled with so much energy that you can't even breathe. You finally stand to your feet, feeling as though you have enough energy to light up a city.
Suddenly, you feel the pressure grow immense on the Stone. The Stone shivers before slivers of cracks splinter over the surface, and its own energy begins to spill out. You feel each individual crack spread deep into the Stone before the Mind Stones suddenly explodes into glittering sand. Instantly, the glow of the stone vanishes as its power dies.
All of the air in your lungs is knocked out of you as everything fades black. You collapse onto the ground as your life-force and the Mind Stone inside of you flicker out.
"No," Steve groans, ignoring everything. He drags himself past everyone, past the battles, grinding his teeth at the exhaustion and pain that dully throb through him. Finally, after what seems like hours, he reaches out towards you and grabs your arm, pulling himself towards you. "No, come on," he half sobs, clenching his fist over your wrist. "Y/N…" He holds his breath, waiting to feel any kind of pulse. His breathing comes out if short, ragged burst as he feels nothing. He drapes his arm over you and lets go, allowing all of the black that should have taken him seventy years ago to cloud everything, and his body goes limp.
You're standing in the middle of the forest, Steve a few feet away from you. You blink in surprise, feeling air in your lungs, and you press your hand to your chest.
What just happened? You were…weren't you? But, that seemed almost like a dream. It felt like Deja Vue. Or an extremely old memory that you just remembered. It was like something that didn't happen but you saw it.
You look to see Thanos holding the Mind Stone, the green of the Time Stone still flickering over his arm. Suddenly, everything becomes clear. You dying…that did happen but it was cut off before it could. Thanos rewound everything. You weren't brought back to life, you never dyed in the first place. You dying was a reality that was cut off before it could happen.
The light from the Mind Stone is sucked into the gauntlet before Thanos sets the Stone in place. Instantly, all the energy from each Infinity Stone runs over Thanos's body, and he growls in pain.
Surprisingly, you can't feel it, but you realize that the Stones are using their last bit of freedom to turn on Thanos. The energy is meant for Thanos, not you.
Suddenly, lightning crackles as Thor's axe flings towards Thanos before hitting the alien so hard that he stumbles onto his knees. The axe is buried up to the hilt in Thanos's chest. Purple blood seeps out around the wound.
Relief floods you, and you let out a breath as Thor flies in, shoving the axe further. Thanos groans in agony.
"I told you. You were going to die for that," Thor growls lowly, his eyes dark.
Thanos takes a deep breath before barely whispering, "You should have gone for the head…"
He reaches up his hand, his fingers poised, and then snaps.
You reel back as you suddenly feel hollow inside as though you were just drained of all of your energy. No, not all of your energy…half.
"What did you do?!" Thor yells frantically, only for Thanos to disappear into a portal. Stormbreaker thunks heavily to the ground.
Thor stands, his hands tense and his breathing fast.
"Thor. Where did he go?" Steve asks just as frantically.
"Steve, what's going on," you breathe, feeling sick. "Something's wrong."
"Steve?" a voice asks.
Everyone turns to see Bucky. He's looking at his hands in confusion. Then, his fingers begin to flake away, followed by his arms. Bucky falls to the ground, collapsing into dust.
You cover your mouth with your hand, unable to do anything but stare at where Bucky used to be.
Steve rushes forward to where Bucky used to be.
You the realize that…you don't feel their energy anymore. The energy you could see with the Mind Stone. It's gone. Bucky, now Sam, Spider-man, Fury, Doctor Strange, T'Challa, and countless more on the battlefield. Just gone.
You turn around when you feel Wanda's energy fading. "Wanda, please stay," you beg, but it is too late. There isn't anything you can do. You want to do something, but you can't. You want all of this to just go away, to disappear, to never have happened. But it did. Everyone, everything is gone.
"No," Steve says heavily, hanging his head.
You lost…
