Chapter 34
Wanda knew what Ali was going to do and so her facial expression changed to match the ones of the four girls at the table.
Unfortunately, before Ali could find Clint on her contacts, Wanda's friends wandered over.
There were two of them but they about the same height as Wanda so were way taller than Ali.
One was African and had her hair in braids that went down her back. Wanda introduced her as Sophie and the other, smaller girl as Ruby. Ruby had blue eyes and strawberry blond hair.
Wanda then introduced Ali to them and explained what they were going to do and what was going on.
Both girls smiled at the idea but said that they were hungry so headed to a table which was already half full and sat down.
Before Ali could comment on her sister's friends her sister grabbed her open phone from her hand and pressed on Clint's number to ring it.
She put her finger to her lips and looked at the 4 girls so that they knew to be quiet.
"Ali why are you ringing me?"
"It's Wanda here not Ali."
"Wanda why do you have Ali's phone?"
Clint sounded really panicked so Wanda hurriedly spoke before Clint and the others burst through the school gates.
"She said I could borrow her phone to call you as mine is flat."
"I am fine Uncle Clint."
Ali knew that her Uncle would not be completely appeased until he heard her voice and so had spoken. She also needed him to know that people could overhear the conversation if they wanted too.
"Anyways, where are you?"
"Why?"
"Because I left my art folder in my room and they changed the timetables, so I have it as my last lesson of the day and I need it. Can you please go and get it?"
"I am sorry I am not at home."
"Where are you?"
"Ummm... I am at a cafe getting lunch and after that I am going shopping with Steve and Bruce."
"You all hate shopping."
The uncertainty and stuttering in the man's voice had all the girls silently laughing.
"We decided to pick some more books up for Ali and Bruce needs some more parts for one of his new machines."
"Fine, I will call Daisy and see if she can go to the tower and get it. Bye!"
"Wait Wan..."
Wanda hung up on him before he had a chance to finish his sentence.
Everyone apart from Ali were still in fits of laughter. Ali was shocked. Her Mamma had even roped in her sister to help them stalk her. She understood getting the rest of the Avengers to help her but hadn't thought that she would go as far as getting her sister involved.
Maya had been laughing along with everyone else but when she looked at Alli's face and seen her shocked expression she stopped.
"Who is Daisy?"
"My other sister who I didn't think my Mum would drag into this because she is supposed to be at work."
Ali once again reached for her phone which Wanda had placed in the middle of the table after Clint had picked up.
She scrolled through her contacts until she found Daisy's. Just before she pressed on the call button Wanda gently grabbed her hand to stop her.
"Wouldn't it be funnier if you called Coulson first?"
Ali nodded her head and went back to her contacts to find Coulson's number.
"Ali why are you calling me?"
"Is Daisy there?"
"Why?"
"Because Wanda left her Art folder back at home and she needs someone to get it for her before her lesson."
"Oh well Daisy isn't here right now, and I would say that I could pick it up but I am currently at a cafe doing work."
"Okay. Everyone seems to be at cafes these days. If you see Daisy can you relay the message?"
"Of course. Bye Ali."
"Bye."
That phone call had been a lot less exciting, and Ali could tell that Wanda was about to go and find her friends when Ali had a brilliant idea.
Flicking through her contacts she found his number and pressed the call button.
He answered after the first ring.
"According to the school website you should be at school Ali."
"I know, I just need to speak to Daisy."
"Who... I mean why do you want to speak to Daisy?"
"It's important Fitz."
"Why can't you just speak to me. Aren't I good enough?"
Everyone was in fits of laughter and Mia was in danger of falling off her seat.
"Can you just tell me where Daisy is please."
"She is not here. She went out."
"Out where?"
"She went to a cafe to go and grab a drink."
"Interesting, since Coulson said that she went to meet up with an old friend."
"She went to do that too. I mean... she met her old friend at the cafe?"
It sounded a lot like a question to Ali who was no longer really paying attention to the conversation and instead trying really hard not to laugh out loud and give herself away.
"You know what here is Jemma, she can tell you."
"Hey Jemma. Do you know where Daisy is?"
"She went to a cafe to meet a friend. Why? Is there anything that we can do for you?"
"No, it's okay. Just wanted to make sure that the person I saw outside my school wasn't Daisy but if she went to a cafe then it couldn't have been her. Thanks Jemma. Bye."
"Oh err, bye Ali."
The group were still laughing when the bell rang 5 minutes later. Wanda restored the connection between her and Ali's minds as they both left the hall.
Wanda went in the opposite direction to where Ali and here group of 3 were heading.
They all had a French lesson in F2 next. Their French classroom was on the same floor as their maths classroom, so it was relatively easy to find.
The four were all still talking when they reached the classroom.
Before they could even enter the room a small, skinny male teacher stepped out of it.
"You will line up and be silent before you enter my classroom!"
He had a strict no-nonsense voice and a French accent. He was a great deal shorter than Ali's three friends but the looks on their faces showed that he scarred them non the less. Ali was the same height as him.
They waited in silence outside his room for more students to arrive. The whole time that they were waiting the teacher was stood directly in front of Ali who was at the start of the line and prevented them from saying a word.
The atmosphere of laughter and happiness that Ali created at break had instantly been destroyed the moment that this teacher had spoken.
When it appeared that almost the whole class were lining up in silence the teacher spoke.
"My name is Monsieur Dupont, and I am your French teacher. You will all line up here in silence before each lesson. I will then invite you into my classroom. There is a sitting plan on the board."
Monsieur Dupont then gestured for Ali to go in which she did. Upon passing him though he said Bonjour.
Ali found that she was sitting at the back next to a boy named Edward.
She went over and sat down in her seat before pulling her things out of her bag. There were already blue books on every desk and so Ali opened hers and followed the instructions that were already on the board. The person sitting next to her was obviously ill as that seat remained vacant.
Once the whole class had entered the teacher spoke,
"I expect silence during my lessons unless I ask you to speak. If you are not silent when I ask you to be then I will be giving out detentions."
Everyone looked terrified and Ali was trying really hard not to laugh.
Unfortunately for her teacher punishments like detention didn't really seem like punishments after what she had been through.
She was also laughing at both everyone else's facial expressions and the fact that a small man that couldn't have been any taller than she was, was terrifying the lives out of his pupils.
"Now I have a small test here that will tell me what level you are at when it comes to French. Please do not worry about it since it will not affect any of your grades that will be given at the end of the term."
Their first whole French lesson was on completing the test.
Since Ali was fluent in French, she managed to complete it all in the first 10 minutes while everyone else was still only on the first page out of the five that they had been given.
Ali hadn't known that she was fluent in French until she had her first French lesson back in Year 1. It had seemed like just the word Bonjour had turned a switch in her mind and she could suddenly just speak it fluently.
The same thing had happened when she worked out that she could speak Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin and sign language. Somehow Ali just knew that she knew more languages than this, but she had no idea when she had learnt them.
Russian and English were different. She had spent the first 5 years of her life speaking both and all through her life she could remember being fluent in both.
Ali spoke through the connection that she had with Wanda in their minds.
"I am bored. What are you doing?"
"Art."
"I thought you said that you needed your art folder?"
"Technically I don't but now I have to put any art I do now into my bag and hope that it doesn't get ruined. What lesson are you in?"
"French with Monsieur Dupont."
"Ohhh."
"What?"
"He is really strict so be careful and if you need to get out of the lesson just tell me and I will get you out."
"I think I will be all right since French is easy and he is tiny so would be easy to handle in a fight."
Ali could hear the laughter in Wanda's thoughts but also her scepticism.
"And why is French so easy may I ask?"
"Because I am already fluent. That is why I am bored because I have already completed the test that is meant to take us the whole lesson."
"I thought you could just speak Russian and English?!"
"Nope. I can speak way more than that!"
"How many more?"
"I have absolutely no idea."
Ali was beaming to herself at the confusion and shock that she was causing her sister to be in.
Unfortunately for her Monsieur Dupont seemed to be able to sense her happiness as looked up from his computer where he had been typing.
"Is there a problem Alice?"
Ali quickly showed Wanda what was happening through her memories so that Wanda would know to be quiet. What her teacher had just said sounded a lot like a question that of course had multiple answers but only one was correct.
"Please Sir, can you call me Ali as I find it hard to answer to Alice as I have been called Ali all my life. Also, there isn't a problem here Sir."
Everyone was now looking at Ali. She had just spoke with such confidence that not even everyone in the room out together could muster in front of this teacher.
"Then why, may I ask, are you staring out of the window?"
"I didn't know what else to do since I have finished the test. I am sorry sir, was I supposed to tell you once I had finished?"
"There is no possible way that you have finished all of the questions in..."
He looked at the watch on his hand before returning his eyes to meet Ali's.
"...15 minutes. Please go back through it and check your work."
The teacher had walked over to her desk while he had been talking. It was one of his intimidation strategies, but he started to walk back over to his desk once he had finished talking. He got halfway there before Ali spoke again.
"Actually Sir, the test took me 7 minutes to complete, and I spent the rest of the time checking it."
Monsieur Dupont stopped and turned around to once again face the girl. He strode over to her desk and held out his hand for her test paper.
"Let me see."
Ali handed him her test before he went back over to his desk to mark it.
As soon as he got to his desk, he seemed to have realised the scene he had just caused and how many people were now distracted from their tests.
"You only have 45 minutes to finish this test, so I suggest you focus on them instead of on others! Ali, while I mark this, I would like you to write down in the back of your book in French how good you believe your French is and why."
Well, that was easy. Ali turned to that back of her book and wrote three words,
Je parle couramment
In English it meant I am fluent. Ali believed that that sentence really didn't need an explanation.
It took Ali's French teacher 10 minutes to mark her test. Ali spent those 10 minutes in Wanda's mind so she ended up having 10 minutes of a Year 11 art lesson instead of a Year 7 French one.
She was having fun until her French teacher's voice pulled her out of Wanda's thoughts and memories.
"Ali please can you bring your French book and step outside. If I hear anyone talking while I am outside the room then they will be serving a detention after school with me today!"
Ali stood up from her seat and made her way over to the door with her French book in her hand. Her French teacher followed right behind her.
Once they were both outside the room Monsieur Dupont started talking.
"Did you cheat or use your phone as both of those things are unacceptable."
"I didn't cheat Sir or use my phone. I just used what I already knew."
"I am sorry Ali, but I will not accept people who lie or those who cheat so you will be serving a detention with me after school today. Since it is your first day here you will not be getting one tomorrow as well."
He started to make his way back into the classroom when Ali hurriedly spoke up. She didn't speak quickly out of fear but more the fact that she knew she would be cut off if she didn't.
"Je parle couramment le français comme le russe. (I am fluent in French as well as Russian.) "
That seemed to stop Monsieur Dupont in his tracks.
He turned around to face her.
"Who taught you French?"
"Je ne suis pas vraiment sûr, mais c'était probablement quelques personnes. (I am not really sure, but it was probably a few people.)"
Ali had responded in French so that her teacher would be more inclined to believe her.
"Your Mother didn't teach you?"
He was going for a condescending tone to show her that he wasn't going to let her get away with anything just because he had been shocked.
It completely backfired though as Ali gave him a look that looked so angry that Monsieur Dupont for some reason started to fear for his life. The look made her look like she was silent but deadly.
"Is that all Sir?"
He tried to swallow his unjustifiable fear as he responded.
"No as I am going to have to move you to a Spanish class if you can already speak French."
"Unfortunately, I would benefit no more from spending a few hours a week in class where Spanish was taught than in your classroom as I am also fluent in Spanish."
Ali was still angry at her teacher for even mentioning her biological mother and so didn't think before she spoke.
"Volveré a tu aula ahora, señor (I will be going back into your classroom now Sir.)"
She just walked right past her teacher and into the classroom with the hope that he would now leave her alone.
The French teacher was to shocked at finding out that this girl in his class spoke at least 4 languages to even register the rudeness in which she had spoken in.
Ali spent the rest of the lesson talking to her sister in peace with Monsieur Dupont only sending her angry glances now and then.
Once the class had finally finished Ali hurriedly packed her things away into her bag before looking around the room at her 3 friends. All three of them were already looking at her and gesture with their heads to meet them outside of the classroom since they were all seated near the door while Ali was on the other side of the room.
The four manged to be the first out of the class which was hard since everyone was desperate to escape.
They all walked to the table that they had gotten earlier in the hall before sitting down.
Maya was the first to speak,
"What did Monsieur Dupont want?"
