Eret had reached the cape where he could see Snotlout attempting to fix the Going Tiger. The wind was really starting to pick up as Aqua Laguna was getting closer.
"Oh, I see now, that must be the ship that he needed the money to have repaired he was talking about," said Kalena. "What a disaster."
"Yeah, even if we didn't come here to nap him, Aqua Laguna would still wash him away," Kaley agreed.
"Talk about bad luck," said Eret.
Snotlout smiled at his work proudly. "All right, I just had enough lumbar to cover the rough spot, so it should hold even though it's not pretty."
"You're wasting your time, pal," said Eret behind him.
Snotlout quickly turned and saw Eret approaching him with the two twins behind him. Of course, he didn't recognise Eret as he never saw his face beneath the mask the last time they met.
"W-who's there," said Snotlout as he raised his fists.
"Sorry, I forgot, you didn't see my face last time," said Eret smiling. "But I'm willing to bet that you remember the beating I gave you."
Snotlout immediately realised who he was. "Oh no, not you! What you want?"
"Now, now, let's all calm down," said Eret. "So long as you play it cool, I won't have to hurt ya. Even I'm not crazy enough to find a guy in the middle of this storm, but if we don't want to sink, it looks like we have the take that ship of yours hostage as well."
"What are you talking about?" Snotlout yelled.
"It's simple, I've got a score to settle with Dragon, so I came here to kidnap you," said Eret simply.
At Galley Law headquarters, Astrid and Toothless had disarmed and taken down or the shipwrights. Though they made sure to only knock them out using the flat of their weapons.
"They should be out for a while," said Astrid as she strapped her axe to her back.
"A shame it had to come to this," said Toothless.
"You guys are so strong," said Chopper staring at the two of them.
"That's showing them!" Ruffnut cheered.
"Why didn't we do this earlier?" Tuffnut asked.
"Because we didn't want to help the real assassins," Astrid glared. "Anyway doesn't matter now; we better just keep going at this point."
"I wonder if Hiccup managed to get inside now?" Toothless pondered.
Hiccup and Palmer were still completely trapped; they were really pinned down.
"Any idea how to get out of this mess?" Palmer asked.
"One, but I'm not sure it's going to work," said Hiccup, then transformed into his human form.
"How is that going to help?" Palmer asked. "You're still trapped."
"Because I wanted to free my extra appendage," Hiccup smiled and transformed back into his hybrid form. However, this time his wings and tail were no longer pinned to the floor. "Now I just need to get a good hold."
He then began trapping his tail around the stake around his neck and began pulling on it as hard as he could. It took some great effort, but he was finally able to remove it, freeing his neck."Guess it worked," Hiccup smiled.
"That's great, now do that with the rest of your body," said Palmer.
"Just give me a sec," said Hiccup.
Hiccup then used his tail to remove the stakes around his left arm, and with his left arm free, he began removing the rest of the states around his body.
"I'm free," he said as he sat up.
"All right, now help me."
"On it."
"You're going to pay," Palmer vowed as Hiccup began pulling the stakes that pinned his body to the floor. "You masked bastards."
Iceberg was completely stunned to discover the true identity of CP9.
"It's true; we've been undercover for the last five years," said Lael. "Ah, but don't worry, we took our jobs as shipwrights very seriously. I understand how shocked you must be. However, we cannot devote any more time to this matter. We will achieve our goal by any means necessary, so if you think about resisting for the sake of being difficult, I suggest you reconsider for your own good as well as ours.
"I assume you're already familiar with Cipher Pol? It's the Government's supreme intelligence agency with eight branches. They are worldwide bases are referred to as CP1 through CP8. Together they serve as the Government's eyes and ears in every corner of the globe."
"Of course I know, but how do all of you fit into that picture?" Iceberg asked.
"Good question. As the ninth Cipher Pol unit, we officially do not exist, and by virtue of that, we possess a certain privilege that the other branches lack. One that necessitates a certain degree of secrecy."
"A privilege?"
"That's right, consider it a blade that we wheeled in the name of justice. If a citizen is uncooperative towards the Government, we may execute them."
"You fools, you can't use justice as an excuse for murder!"
"Recently, the Government has been forced to change its way of thinking," said Lael ignoring his comment. "For example, rather than fearing Odin's revival, they have decided to awaken it. To use the ancient weapon is a force for justice that can bring an end to the Great Pirate Era, and now for some reason, you want to stand in their way. It's almost as if you have no sympathy for all the people that are constantly being victimised by pirates. You should reconsider where your loyalties lie."
"Don't kid yourself," Iceberg glared. "If the weapon is restored, the world is going to fight over its power. It will only bring more destruction!"
"Are you saying that you don't trust the Government, Mr Iceberg? That would be a shame."
"Not at all; it's human nature I don't trust… Lael."
Lael then kicked him across the face hard. "Show some respect, remember you're not my boss anymore."
Iceberg lifted himself up, trying to stay conscious.
"Silvernose, check his pulse," Lael ordered as he turned his back on Iceberg.
Silvernose then tossed his mask away and then approached Iceberg.
"Excuse me," he said as he bent down and grasped hold of his wrist and could feel his pulse.
"Here's the situation," said Lael. "A while ago, we came up with a bit of a hypothesis about the blueprints. You needn't worry; although we could torture you, we have more effective means of extracting the truth. All you have to do is lie there and listen to our hypothesis without saying a word."
He then turned around and looked down at Iceberg. "Even if your mouth won't cooperate, your pulse will tell us the truth."
Iceberg then realised that they were going to find the truth out by feeling how fast as heartbeats. The more anxious he became, the fastest his heart would beat, and there is no way he could hide it.
Meanwhile, Coco was making her way down the street with Chimney playing around. The street was now completely deserted, and the wind was really picking up.
"The wind is out to get ya," she laughed as a newspaper slammed into Chimney's face. "You better be careful."
Chimney merely laughed as she ran around. "Hey, granny! Aren't we going back? The storm is coming!"
"Oh ya?" she said as she drank a bottle of wine. "Seems like a perfect time for a stroll around town if you ask me. Gives me a little time to sober up."
"Oh, then why are you still drinking, granny? You can't sober up and have booze at the same time, can you?"
"Sure I can," Coco laughed. "I haven't been drinking my whole life for nothing."
"Huh, all your life? That's not true! That's not true! That's not true!" Chimney laughed as she ran around.
Coco stopped in her tracks. "It hasn't been all my life; it's only been eight years."
CP9 was still interrogating Iceberg, who was unable to do anything to stop them.
"Now that we're all comfortable, let me explain the thought process leading our hypothesis," said Lael. "First of all, the way that you allowed us to retrieve the fake blueprints is highly suspicious. After you decided that the culprit were related to the Government, you intentionally reveal the location of the fakes. Presumably in the hopes of fooling us.
However, what if your assumption was wrong and the culprit's intention was to kill you rather than retrieving the blueprints? In that case, the face would be useless, the real blueprints would be lost, and the will of the original shipwrights would not be passed on. Surely you consider that possibility; I know that your no fool, and yet despite reading a decoy, you seemingly made no attempt to pass off the actual blueprints tonight. That must mean you've already entrusted them to someone.
Iceberg pulse began to race.
"We still do not know where they are, but we can assume that you don't have them with you anymore," said Lael. "That our hypothesis."
Iceberg attempted to free himself from Silvernose, but he merely twisted his arm, nearly breaking it in the attempt.
"Huh-uh, no squirming," said Silvernose.
Iceberg merely glared at him.
"This is just a theory," Lael continued. "I admit that we haven't had any decisive evidence, but despite the fact that we have kept you under surveillance for the past five years, we've never seen you do anything suspicious. Assuming that you didn't trust the blueprints to someone, they would have to be an accomplished shipwright to make any sense of them."
Iceberg's pulse was racing even faster.
"Now, if we add that to our theory, things start to get interesting," said Lael and pulled out the fake blueprints. "For example, let's take a closer look at the fake blueprints that you left us. Here at the bottom, you can see signatures of three different shipwrights… Tom… Iceberg… and Eric Earlson… and the company name Tom's Workers. You probably thought that this detail would mean anything to those who took the bait, but you had no idea that your enemies were so close. That was a grave miscalculation on your part.
If the person who broke in had been an outsider, once they found out the blueprints had nothing to do with Odin, they probably would have thrown them away. However, since we've been shipwrights ourselves for the past five years, the names of the designers are very interesting."
Iceberg couldn't help but remember thinking back a few years ago.
"There's a visitor here to see you," said Kala.
"Although many people know the legendary shipwright Tom, the details of his actual company are shrouded in mystery. It's believed to have existed on this island, but there's no roster or register to be found. It was no easy task finding out that you were one of Tom's apprentices. What few reports we have indicated that he taught only two shipwrights and a Government official; therefore either one of them died in an accident eight years ago."
"Real shame, I know that Eric was a bit of a loose cannon, but I sure hate to see him go," said Coco.
"It struck a chord, I thought to myself, 'Now where have I heard that name before?'" said Lael.
"He said that he is a friend from years back," said Kala. "Do you know anyone named Eric Earlson?"
"It was about four years ago, shortly after we started our undercover operation," said Lael. "He was a man that has passed through Galley Law's gates many times since. But only once did he ever use that name."
"I remember it clearly," said Kala.
"So do I," said Silvernose remembering the man walking through the front gates.
Iceberg pulse was beating even faster.
"Shall I show him in, sir? Kala asked.
"No, turn him away," said Iceberg.
Kala then went to meet the man and told him to go away.
"In other words, Tom's second apprentice Eric Earlson is still alive," said Lael. "And living in this town no less, but now he goes by Eret."
Iceberg pulse was like a train without breaks.
"What's with all the secrecy?" Eret asked as he and Iceberg met in secret. "Is something going on?"
Iceberg then dropped the blueprints on the table, and Eret examined them.
"Hey, what are these? The blueprints for that old battleship?"
"Don't call yourself Eric Earlson anymore," said Iceberg.
"Huh?" said Eret looking up.
"It's only a matter of time before the Government targets me. I want you to take these and leave this island, Eret."
"Seems pretty obvious now, huh?" said Silvernose as he released Iceberg. "Can't believe it took us all this year to figure out the connection."
"Our searches turned up nothing; I must admit that his true identity was a well-hidden secret," Lael admitted. "And because he's a ship dismantle, we never really gave him much thought. It's ironic, really; since we never questioned our reports, it didn't occur to us that a dead person might actually still be alive.
The setup was quite convenient for you, I imagine. Since the Eret Family often came to the shipyard to sell lumber, there were plenty of chances to pass on the blueprints. You managed it well; he was close when you needed him and yet always a safe distance. That would also explain why you are so comfortable in dealing with us; you knew we were looking for the blueprints in the wrong place. And while it might seem strange that your most trusted four men had not heard of the blueprints, they couldn't possibly be as close to you as Tom's other apprentice. From this line of thinking, everything checks out, not only that your racing pulse has confirmed that our hypothesis is true."
Astrid and the others were running down the corridor towards Iceberg's room as quickly as they could, and on the way, they could see several injured shipwrights.
"Come on, hurry!" Astrid ordered.
"You sure this is the right way?" Toothless asked.
"No, but the trail bodies will lead us to Heather. I'm sure that it," said Astrid as they ran up the stairs.
"The injuries are pretty bad," said Chopper looking at the bodies.
Astrid then saw the door leading to Iceberg's room. "That's got to be yet, the closed door at the end of the hallway!"
"But a lot of people got hurt guarding that door," said Chopper.
"Stand back, I'll cut away through," said Toothless as he ran ahead of them.
Hiccup had finally managed to free Palmer, and now they were making their way to Iceberg's room.
"Hey, it's Astrid and the others," said Hiccup.
Astrid looked around and saw the two of them running towards them. "Hiccup? And the guy from Dock One?"
"Uh, why isn't he attacking us?" Tuffnut asked.
"Because he's just realised that when the ones who attacked Iceberg," Hiccup explained. "It's Government agents."
"That explains a lot," said Astrid.
Toothless then drew his swords. "Then let's meet them."
Inside, Iceberg was completely furious at himself and giving away the secret.
"Don't blame yourself; you're only human," said Lael. "And under the circumstances, no one would be able to hide the truth from us for very long. So just be grateful that justice will prevail in the end."
"Thanks so much for the last five years, but you outlive your usefulness," said Silvernose.
"Let's find Eret before the storm hits," said Kala.
"You bastards," Iceberg glared.
It was then that the door was slashed to pieces and the Dragon Riders entered.
"Heather, we're here," said Hiccup.
"Hiccup?" said Heather stunned.
"You again," said Lael.
"Looks like we finally found you, Heather," said Hiccup.
"Heather, why did you leave us?" Chopper cried.
"Hold on a sec," said Astrid recognising the members of CP9. "Something's not right here."
Palmer just stood there completely stunned as he looked at their faces.
"Well, well, well," said Lael.
"Palmer… Dragon…" said Iceberg weakly.
"Iceberg, what is this?" Palmer stared. "What the hell is going on?!"
