Happy Friday! I do not own Gilmore Girls. Make me dance around the kitchen and leave a review! :)

Chapter 35

Rory woke up with a headache. A terrible headache. She opened her eyes and everything was blurring and swimming before her eyes. She realised she wasn't in her room, but had no idea where she was.

She looked around a bit more before she saw a blurry outline of a tall man, dark haired sat near her bed.

"Finn?" She asked her head pounding with each syllable.

"Wrong gorgeous Aussie I'm afraid darling. He's with Mia, Colin and the baby right now, your mom just went to get some coffee." Josh said.

"Oh, sorry." Rory mumbled.

"How are you feeling?" Josh asked standing up.

"Head hurts. What happened?" She asked confused.

"You passed out and hit your head, hard." Josh said.

"I passed out?" Rory asked.

"Oh yeah. Luckily the ambulance was there by that point." Josh said.

"Ambulance?" Rory frowned not knowing what Josh was talking about and her head was really hurting.

"Yes, the ambulance... for Mia and the baby? You don't remember?" Josh sounded concerned and he still wasn't coming into focus.

"Oh my god! The baby! Is he okay? He started crying, that means he's okay right? Mia's okay right?" Rory asked trying to sit up.

"Wow, calm down, lie back down." Josh gently pushed her shoulder and she felt like she was going to be sick. "You can't move too quickly you've got a concussion. Everyone is fine, the baby is fine and Mia's great. All thanks to you."

"Mia did all the hard work. Trust me!" Rory said sincerely.

"I've no doubt she did. But that that baby, he's here because of you." Josh said softly. "Now, stay still, I'm getting you a doctor."

Rory laid back, tired. All she wanted to do was get up to see Mia and the baby, but every movement made her head pound. She kind of wanted her mom. And Finn. Though she was sure that they were still in a fight, she wanted him anyway.

The doctor came, checked her eyes and had her squeeze his fingers and other sorts of medical tests. She had a concussion but would otherwise be alright. She had to stay lying down for a bit but she'd be okay. She was more embarrassed than anything, it could have been worse though. At least she didn't pass out while Mia was having the baby, or when she was holding the baby.

A smile touched her face as she thought of the little baby. He was so tiny, so beautiful and his little cry was the best sound she had ever heard in her life.

"Josh?" Rory asked.

"Yes."

"Is Finn still angry with me?" Rory asked feeling like she was going to sleep even though her eyes were open.

"I didn't know he was angry with you. He was in here when I came in, but then your mum came and he wanted to see Mia and the baby. Pretty sure delivering his nephew safely gives you a few points Shelia." Josh chuckled.

"I like points." Rory mumbled.

"You've got them, you've got a boat load of points darling." Josh said squeezing her hand and she couldn't open her eyes anymore.

Josh left the room where Rory was sleeping again, almost running into Lorelai as he did.

"She woke up, I got a doctor, it's just concussion she's fine. She's sleeping again now though." Josh filled the caffeinated woman in quickly. He wouldn't want to wait to hear about Sophia.

"Oh, thank god. Thank you." Lorelai let out a deep breath her whole body seemed to fold.

"She's going to be fine." Josh said squeezing her arm gently. "I'm going to check on Mia and everyone now but I'll be back in a bit."

"Thank you, Josh, really." Lorelai said but he waved away her thanks. It wasn't needed. He knew why Finn called Rory angel now. That was the second time she'd saved Mia and now his great nephew to boot. Angel suited her.

Josh headed to the maternity ward where Mia and the baby were being held, stopping to get a coffee on the way. He was going to have to be awake till Janice and Phineas got here, which would be at least another twelve hours. He'd managed to get Phineas on the phone only long enough to tell him that Mia and the baby were both fine. The extraordinary way the baby had got here however hadn't been told to the new grandparents just yet.

"Hey." Josh said opening the door to Mia's private room. He saw that Mia was asleep but that Colin was wide awake holding the baby, a soft smile on his face as he looked down at his sleeping son.

"Hi." Colin whispered not looking up from the baby.

"Is Rory okay?" Finn asked quietly from the chair, sat up alert.

"Concussion, she'll be fine. She woke up for a bit but she's back asleep now. Seemed to think you two were in a fight though. Asked if you were still angry with her." Josh whispered.

"I'll go talk to her in a bit." Finn said sinking into the chair.

"Go Buttercup." Colin said.

"It's fine." Finn said.

"Buttercup... go away." Colin insisted in a gentle singsong voice.

"I've got my phone on me." Finn said with a sigh getting up from the chair.

"Bye bye." Colin said.

Finn left with a look over his shoulder and another sigh.

"What's that about?" Josh asked taking Finn's seat.

"Ask him, or Rory or Mia. If I tell all three are going to kick my ass." Colin said swaying the baby.

"Smart." Josh chuckled. "Do you have a name yet?"

"Yes, but again, if I tell you before Mia says I can... ass kicking. Big big ass kicking. And she is one strong woman." Colin looked up and smiled gently at Mia.

"You should get some sleep while you can mate. You're not going to have any for like a year now." Josh said.

"Five more minutes." Colin said gently.

"Sure man, but don't say I didn't warn you, yeah?" Josh chuckled. He'd learn.

When Rory next opened her eyes, everything was still fuzzy but her head felt less like a jackhammer was going off in it. That was something at least. She looked around to see if anyone was in her room this time.

She saw the outline of who could only be her mom, her head lolling in obvious sleep, she'd have a pain in the neck when she woke, and another outline of a tall dark-haired man.

"Hey, you're still here Josh?" She asked happy that her voice came out less hoarse than last time. She didn't know when last time was though, how long it had been. Her mouth tasted like it might have been a while.

"Wrong Aussie love." Finn said and she felt her heart flutter.

"Finn." She said around a lump in her throat. "You came?"

"Oh love, of course I came. Have you any idea just how sexy you look in a hospital gown with a bandage round your head?" Finn chuckled.

"I'm sure it's very." Rory said. "How's Mia and the baby? Are they okay? Josh said they were but... they still are right?"

"Yes love, they're fine." Finn said leaning forward and taking her hand.

"Are we still fighting?" Rory asked.

"No love, we're not. We need to have a talk about keeping secrets, but we are not fighting. You were amazing last night Florence." Finn said gently.

"Florence? Did you hit your head too?" Rory chuckled hoping her vision would clear up soon, she would really like to see his eyes.

"Nightingale." Finn clarified.

"Ah, that I get now." Rory laughed, wincing as her head hurt.

"How are you feeling?" Finn asked her.

"Like I have an elephant sat on my head and my eyes are blurry. You're a giant somewhat attractive blob right now." She told him.

"At least I'm still attractive as a blob." Finn said. "I'm going to get a doctor. See if the eye thing is normal."

Rory sat alone in her bed and sighed. She was embarrassed and annoyed with herself. This day was supposed to be about Mia and the baby, she really needed to know his name, calling him the baby didn't feel right.

Finn was back quickly with a doctor who once again preformed an exam. He said that although he was fairly certain that her eyes would return to normal and it was just from the concussion, they would do an MRI to be safe.

Rory had never had an MRI, or if she did, she didn't remember.

"Is it going to hurt?" She asked, feeling like a wimp, but she wasn't exactly a fan of pain. It hurt.

"Not at all." The doctor reassured her, she thought that if she could see him, he would be smiling.

Phineas got off the jet almost as soon as it touched down, him and Janice hurrying to the car that was waiting. He was anxious to make sure that Mia was actually fine and meet the baby. Other than knowing that the baby was here safely he hadn't heard word for hours and it made him worry. Finn hadn't called once, just Josh, which also worried him.

"They would have called if something was wrong." Janice said again. She'd been his rock through the seventeen-hour flight. She was always his rock, which was why he had decided not to wait much longer before she was officially his wife. He'd made her wait long enough.

"I know. I can't help but worry though." Phineas said.

"We'll be there in ten minutes; you can see for your own eyes then." Janice smiled squeezing his hand. "Grandpa."

"Oh no, I'm pops, I'm much too young and handsome to be Grandpa. Thank you very much, Grandma." Phineas chuckled.

"I like Nana. That has a more youthful ring to it." Janice said with a small smile.

"Pops and Nana. Yeah, that works." Phineas said.

"I wonder if he has red hair like Mia or brown like Colin?" Phineas mused.

"He might not have any hair yet, but it'll probably be brown. Red is a recessive gene so he'll probably end up with the dominant brown eyes and brown hair." Janice said absently.

"You amaze me sometimes you know that?" Phineas gaped at his wife to be.

"Oh, come on, I learnt that in biology in high school." Janice rolled her eyes.

"You still amaze me." Phineas said.

"And I always will, now come on." Janice said, the car had come to a stop, they were at the hospital.

They went straight to the reception desk.

"Hello, we're looking for Amelia Morgan, she had a baby here last night." Phineas said smiling at the nurse manning the desk.

"Let me just check." The nurse smiled back. "Yes, she's up in the maternity ward, room two Oh three. If you take the elevator to the fourth floor and follow the blue line on the wall you should find it easily."

"Thanks." Phineas said and they were heading for the lift.

Janice knocked on the door to the room the nurse had told them.

"Come in!" Mia's voice called through the door happily and Phineas let out a sigh of relief.

They entered a nice enough large private room. Mia was in the bed looking flushed and happy, Colin was by her side holding a small bundle who could only be his grandson.

"Mia." Phineas said walking to his daughters' side and wrapping her in a gentle hug. "How are you feeling?"

"Tired, but fine." She smiled.

"And this is him? Our grandchild?" Phineas asked trying to catch a glimpse of the baby's face.

"This is him." Colin grinned passing the baby to Mia so Phineas could see better.

He was beautiful, perfect features, lips puckered up, suckling in his sleep, he had soft brown hair and was just peaches and cream. Perfect.

"He's perfect you two. Congratulations." Phineas beamed.

"He's seven pounds and seven ounces, he is feeding fine and his temperature was brought back fine almost instantly." Mia rattled off her eyes not leaving her son.

"Temperature?" Phineas asked. That had never been an issue with Finn or Mia, or Sophia when they were born as far as he knew.

"Well, he was born outside in January, he was a bit on the cold side." Mia chuckled.

"Outside?" Janice asked.

"You haven't been told?" Colin asked sounding surprised.

"Er, what?" Phineas looked between the two new parents.

"Well we didn't get here in time. I'd been having contractions for hours, I just thought it was him kicking really hard. By the time we were in the car he was coming." Mia said with a smile.

"No, no one told us. Wow. So you delivered him in the car? Did you have an ambulance or something?" Phineas asked surprised and worried. But they were both here, they were both fine.

"Rory delivered him." Colin said.

"Rory?" Janice asked.

"Oh yeah, she was fierce. Screamed at me to pull over and screamed at Finn to call 911. Got the baby out, unwrapped the cord from round his neck, warmed him up and got him crying." Colin said, his voice easy but Phineas saw his hands clench into fists at the retelling.

"Oh wow!" Janice said.

"Jeeze. But he's fine and your fine. Wow, that'll be a story to tell him when he's older." Phineas said feeling a bit faint.

"Yeah, everyone's fine. We think." Colin said.

"You think?" Phineas asked urgently, were there more tests needed?

"Yeah, Rory passed out as soon as the ambulance arrived, hit her head open on the floor. She's waiting for the results of an MRI, we kicked Finn out to go wait with her while this little one slept. Josh is there too." Mia said.

"So an eventful night then?" Phineas asked. He needed to sit down.

"Just a bit." Mia agreed.

"So have you got a name yet?" Phineas asked.

"We have." Colin beamed at Mia.

"We're naming him Lee Phineas McCrea." Mia announced.

Phineas felt his eyes start tearing.

"That is a real honour, thank you." He said in a strangled voice.

"Lee is lovely too." Janice added holding Phineas' hand tightly.

"Well, we wanted to go with Rory, but it didn't fit, so we used her middle name instead." Colin said.

"No, you wanted to use mother. Which was ridiculous." Mia laughed.

"Well, you wanted Roar. Like he was a damn tiger or something." Colin retorted.

"Finn suggested Lee, it went better." Mia added.

"It's a beautiful name. Really. And I'm not saying that because I'm biased." Phineas added.

"Do you want to hold him?" Mia asked.

/\\\/\\\

"All clear. And you can see better now?" The doctor asked, coming to tell Rory her MRI results.

"Twenty, twenty vision." Rory said eagerly, the doctor had woken her and she had been able to see as she normally could thankfully.

"Excellent, then I think we can discharge you." The doctor announced with a smile and Rory didn't think better words had ever been spoken.

"Yes!" Rory said happily. Her mom had gone to pick up clothes for everyone from the flat, she could get changed and finally meet Little Lee. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." The doctor smiled before leaving.

"Okay so I need to visit the gift shop and then we can go see Mia and Lee, right?" Rory asked eagerly.

"Yes we can love." Finn chuckled. "You might want to wait for your mom to bring clothes though."

"Eh, I'm wearing the same thing as fifty percent of the people in here, we're fine. I just want to meet him properly already." Rory insisted.

"Hey, you held him before any of us angel. You've met him. Uncle Finn gets the next lot of cuddles." Finn said.

"I will fight you, Finnegan." Rory insisted. "You had cuddles while I was busy being unconscious. When he was all clean and smelling nice."

"Well, who am I to fight Lorelai Leigh Ball Crusher Gilmore?" Finn raised his hands in mock defeat. "You're really feeling better now?"

"Yes, I'm just very embarrassed." Rory shrugged fighting her blush.

"Embarrassed? Why?" Finn frowned helping Rory as she started getting out of the bed.

"A fainting fit followed by a swan dive out of the car? That's pretty embarrassing." Rory said sitting as she went to put on her sneakers and socks.

"I think we all felt like passing out once the ambulance arrived angel." Finn chuckled bending down and putting her sneakers on for her and tying them up.

"But I'm the only one that did." Rory argued.

"I think you had more reason than the rest of us." Finn shrugged with a smile helping her up and walking with her slowly out of the room.

"I think Mia did. She is a rock star and I never want children. Ever." Rory shuddered. "Oh shoot. My wallet, it's at home. I wanted to get Lee something from the gift shop and Mia."

"You're very cute when you pout love. I however do have my wallet, come on let's go pick some bits out." Finn suggested.

"But I wanted to get them." Rory protested.

"You can pay me back if it makes you feel better." Finn said. "With interest."

"That does make me feel better, thanks." Rory grinned up at him, happy as he leant down and gently placed a kiss on her lips.

They picked out a soft blue cuddly dog in the gift shop and a big bunch of colourful flowers for Mia then made their way to maternity ward, Finn's arm wrapped around her waist the entire time.

Finn knocked on Mia's door softly. Waiting for someone to tell him it was alright to go in before he entered.

When they entered Rory saw that the room was almost full. Of course, there was Mia and Colin, but Phineas and Janice were also there as was Josh.

"Hi." Rory smiled at Mia then everyone else. "How are you feeling? We have presents."

"Rory!" Mia squealed happily and Rory went to her bedside as quickly as she could, noting Finn followed not taking his hands off her.

Rory hugged Mia tightly, and was wrapped in a hug from her best friend just as tight.

"How are you feeling?" Rory asked in her ear.

"Great." Mia said finally dropping her arms.

"Oh, these are for you." Rory passed her the flowers they'd brought which Finn had been holding. "Congratulations!"

"Thank you." Mia said clutching Rory's hand tightly. The thank you conveying more than just thanks for a bunch of flowers.

"I haven't forgot about our second date." Rory winked and laughed.

"How are you?" Mia asked pointing at the bandage on her head.

"I've still got brain cells left despite trying to beat them out of myself, I have a doctor's note to prove it." Rory laughed. "Sorry about that by the way."

"I think we can probably forgive you." Mia shrugged laughing with her.

"Lee is in the nursery at the minute." Colin said.

"Oh well, I'll leave then, I only came for baby cuddles really." Rory joked.

"I see how it is. I've been replaced already." Mia pouted.

"No, not you, never you. It's Finn, I'm giving up cuddles with him for a younger model." Rory joked.

"Hey!" Finn protested and she turned her head to smile at him.

"We're very glad to see you're okay Rory." Janice said with a smile and Rory blushed realising she was in a room full of the Morgan's in a hospital gown that gaped at the back, which might have been the reason Finn was so close behind her. Close enough she could feel his breath on her neck.

"Thanks, sorry I'm not quite dressed for the occasion." Rory couldn't stop the heat in her face telling her she was probably bright red by now.

"Hospital sheik darling." Janice joked.

"The problem is, we're both in the same outfit, which is terribly embarrassing." Mia laughed.

/\\\/\\\

Three days later and Rory was busy hanging banners, putting balloons up and putting a pile of gifts on the kitchen counter tops at the apartment as Finn went to fetch the new family. Mia, Colin and baby Lee were on their way home.

Finn and Rory had barely left the hospital in the past three days. Only coming home when the crowded visiting room got too overwhelming or when they were kicked out by the new parents.

"Jeeze, got enough decorations?" Paris said from the sofa where she was sat grumpily. The editor job at the Yale Daily News was not going well, not that Paris Geller would ever admit such a thing.

"Yes, now help or sulk somewhere else." Rory said standing on a chair to tack a bundle of balloons up.

"Fine." Paris grumbled blowing up some balloons. "Sent out your letters and resumes yet?"

"Posting them tomorrow." Rory said, she'd been up most of last night doing it. Finn had been surprised but supportive when she told him her plan and had brought her coffee throughout the night.

"Good. Don't let one asshole ruin your life." Paris nodded.

"I don't plan too." Rory said firmly.

"What's the plan if you don't hear back?" Paris asked.

"I'm going to start my own blog. Which I know is very lame, but it's a start and it keeps me writing. Then I don't know. Look into other career paths." Rory shrugged, she hoped it didn't come to that.

"Hey maybe you can be a midwife." Paris said with a harsh laugh.

"No, I think after you deliver the baby you have to stay conscious. If I never do that again as long as I live, I'll be happy." Rory said getting down from the chair.

"It looks great on your resume though if you think about medical school." Paris said.

"Not going back to school Paris." Rory sighed; this had been a bone of contention between them the last few days.

"I just think you've got greater career prospects going back to school." Paris said. Again.

"I know." Rory sighed again. She had thought of it, but she didn't want to be tied down for more years in one spot, she didn't want Finn to have to wait for her for more years. She wanted to start the next bit of their lives.

"Have a plan ready by the start of the fall semester. That way you know what you're working towards. You're good at debating, you could be a lawyer, you've got excellent organisational skills, you could run a business without breaking a sweat and it'd challenge you. You could start your own magazine or newspaper. You could start an online company." Paris started rattling things off.

"You've been busy thinking of this." Rory said surprised.

"I'm disappointed you haven't frankly." Paris said. "This is enough balloons, right? Otherwise, this place is going to look like a party at Chuk E Cheese."

"Yeah, this is enough balloons." Rory said stepping back. It looked nice and welcoming and festive. Just what she wanted.

"How are you and Finn? There's less inconsiderate shouting at all hours anyway." Paris asked.

"We're okay, I think. We haven't really had chance to talk." Rory said biting her lip. They cuddled together at night, he kissed her, they held hands, there were jokes as usual but something was missing.

"You think? That isn't the Joanie and Chachi we all get sick of." Paris frowned.

"I think we just need to talk; I hope." Rory said hopefully. She hadn't had much experience of people sticking round when things got hard. Her dad ran when things got tough, Dean had crapped out when he heard things he didn't like, Jess had just disappeared without word when things got rough. Even her mom tended to take road trips rather than deal with problems.

"You'll be fine, get him drunk and wear a new set of lingerie. Problems solved." Paris said and although it was terrible advice, truly terrible, Rory thought it would probably work.
