It was Monday evening and somehow Chase and I ended up doing our homework together. Bree was out on a date with Owen and Adam and Leo were goofing around somewhere else in the mansion.

"Harper, read what's on page 47 of your History Book. " I flipped through the ancient pages and shook my head.

"I don't have page 47. I have a four, a twelve, a thirty-two. And what I hope is gum on ninety-eight." Grimacing, I set those pages aside; yes the pages were coming undone from the binding. That's how old it was.

"This book is so old. Listen to this. Chapter Four: horseless carriages taking over the streets of America." We both shook our heads.

"Other schools teach on laptops and tablets. We learn from textbooks that warn us the British are coming. " Chase smiled at my sarcastic remark then looked at his book again with a thoughtful expression.

"We need to do something to bring Mission Creek High into the 21st century. " He stated and I nodded my head in agreement.

"Tell me about it. At my old school, we had a computer lab that didn't have computers from the nineties."

Mr. Davenport, who had not so subtly been eavesdropping on our conversation, rushed over to where we were sitting at the cyber desk.

"Oh, maybe I can help!" He said but we shot him down quickly.

"No!" Chase and I said at the same time. Mr. Davenport looked a little hurt by this.

"What? I'm a genius tech mogul. I could revolutionize your whole school. Why wouldn't you want me to help? " I clasped my hands together.

"I don't know how to say this gently, so I won't. Every time you try to help, your ego gets in the way and you take over." I explained but Mr. Davenport didn't believe me.

"That is not true." He denied and I gave him a look, " Give me one example."

"Last week you gave Leo a new backpack. " I started.

"He said he needed a backpack."

"A backpack with your face on it?"

"All the guys in the office love theirs." He said defensively and I pressed my lips together and shook my head.

"Trust me they don't. "

"You don't get it. This is our school you're talking about. " Chase said, backing me up.

"Yeah whatever disaster you create there will affect them everyday and me by association." I finished for him. Mr. Davenport came over and put one hand on each of our shoulders. I've started to get used to how touchy feely this family is, but it's a slow process.

"Guys I promise I won't embarrass you. This is about your school, not about me. " He looked at us both with pleading eyes and Chase sighed.

"Well, our school could really use the help..." Chase started and he looked to see what I would say. After a few seconds, I sighed too and gave in.

"Fine." I pointed a finger at him, "But you keep that ego under control." I told him firmly.

"Don't worry, my ego is officially checked." Mr. Davenport assured us.

"I'll believe it when I see it." I muttered to Chase who nodded. Suddenly Mr. Davenport's phone started ringing and the person singing sounded a lot like a certain someone.

'Davenport. Davenport. Somebody wants to call Davenpooort~'

"Seriously?" I said. Did he record his own ringtone?

"What it's catchy." Donny said defensively before putting the phone to his ear. "Davenport speaking. Oh hi, Laura." I froze and Chase noticed. When he gave me a concerned look I forced myself to appear calm. "How's it going? Really? Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yeah, no, she's doing good. Maybe you want to talk with her?" I made a cutting motion over my neck to silently tell him I didn't want to, but it seems Laura beat me to say no. "Ok. Ok, I'll let her know." After the phone call ended I held my breath and waited for him to say I had to go home. "Well, I guess you're staying for another week, Harper. Your mom's passport expired so it'll take a few days to get everything worked out." I blinked, not expecting to be given such good news. It was the best news, actually.

"Ok." I replied simply before going back to reading my history book.

"Ok? That's it?" I raised an eyebrow at Chase.

"What else am I supposed to say?" I asked him with a little edge in my voice. I didn't really want to have this conversation.

"I mean, aren't you worried about her? You didn't want to talk to her. That's a bit rude considering the circumstances don't you think? Have you even talked to her at all since she's been away?" I felt like I was backed into a corner. There was so much they didn't know and never planned on revealing any time soon.

"I- well no." I admitted reluctantly, "I don't see why that's a problem."

"I think what Chase is trying to say is, is everything alright between you and your mom?" Mr. Davenport asked and, sighing, I knew I tried to think of a simple and vague response that wouldn't raise too much suspicion.

"We don't have a close relationship like your family does. So we try and give each other as much space as possible. We live separate lives and I don't think there's a problem with that, do you?"

Chase looked like he was going to ask more questions, but Mr. Davenport gave him a look while putting a hand on my shoulder.

"No, there's nothing wrong with that." He assured and I relaxed but avoided Chase's eyes, "Every family is different. And if things ever get tough and you need a break, our door will always be open. Ok?" I gave him a small smile.

"Thank you. I appreciate it. Really. You sure it's ok I stay here for another week?" I asked, I've been anxious that I had overstayed my welcome.

"Of course. It gives you more time to train so it's a win-win."

"Yeah." I agree that staying here was a win-win, for me at least. I didn't have to deal with Laura and I got to stay in an awesome place with three meals a day.

I could feel Chase's gaze on me as Davenport left.

"Out with it." I said, still not looking at him.

"There's something you're not telling us." I scoffed.

"What makes you think that and don't say you're the smartest man alive and know everything." I'd hoped saying this would end the discussion, but he is smart and tried a different tactic.

"Can I say what I think you're hiding?" I chewed the inside of my cheek as I begrudgingly nodded. "Laura's not your real mom is she?"

"What makes you say that?"

"I've caught you numerous times, almost calling her by her name instead of mom. And the lack of emotional attachment you just exhibited when Mr. Davenport said she was stuck wherever she was."

"You call your dad Mr. Davenport." I said in an attempt to win the argument. He gave me a look. "I have no comment."

"Harper." He and I had a staring contest and I wasn't going to lose. But somehow I did and after growling and dropping my head in my hands I figured what the heck. He probably might understand since technically Donny isn't his real dad. "She's my foster mom." I finally admitted with defeat. I closed my eyes and prepared for the comments that usually came when I revealed this.

"What happened to your real parents?" There it is.

"You tell me. I was dropped off at an orphanage when I was three." I said, my voice bitter as it always was when I had to reveal this.

"Oh. I'm sorry." I shook my head, regretting saying anything.

"Don't say that. I don't need your pity. It was a long time ago and I could care less about them. I'm gonna go finish studying in my room." I gathered my stuff and super sped out of the lab.

Walking into school the next day, I was blown away by all the upgrades. Kids were walking around with tablets and computers, there were electronic bulletin boards, and the circular benches had plug-ins so you could charge your electronics. How did Mr. Davenport do this overnight?

I spotted Chase, Leo, and Davenport by some lockers and even though I wanted to avoid Chase, my locker was by where they were standing. I headed over. Donny was showing another upgrade to them I think.

"Check it out, by the end of the day I will have fingerprint scanners on all of the lockers. We were going to do retinal scanning but it turns out eyeballs are highly flammable. So what do you think?"

"I think it's going to be harder for me to get out of when someone locks me inside. " Leo stated.

"Maybe we do voice recognition just especially for you." I suggested. I made Chase and Leo jump because they didn't see me sneak up behind them. They made room for me in between them so I could look at the fingerprint scanner. I could feel Chase's eyes on me as Mr. Davenport looked impressed with my suggestion.

"I'll take that under consideration." He said.

"I got to hand it to you, Mr. Davenport. This is amazing." Chase said and I nodded in agreement. He far exceeded our expectations and did not let his ego get in the way.

"See, I told you it would be great." Then he grew excited and pointed behind us. We turned and saw what I think was Principal Perry, but she was walking stiffly and her face and hands were silver.

"And I see you gave Principal Perry a makeover. I especially love what you did to her face. " Leo complimented and she turned to him.

"Zip it, Dooley." Instead of sounding annoyed like she normally would, Perry's voice was monotonous.

"That's not Principal Perry. That's Robo Perry. She's a robot." Chase, Leo, and I shared concerned looks. A robot designed to be like a woman who made everyone's life miserable? Said person came out of her office looking very happy.

"And she's beautiful!" Perry grabbed the robot by the arms and proceeded to kiss the robot's cheeks and Leo covered his eyes.

"Make it stop!" Leo exclaimed. Davenport ignored him.

"Anyway, I designed Robo Perry so she could roam the halls while-"

"I'm on a three-hour lunch break. Our lurking elsewhere." Perry giggled after her last comment.

"How could you do this?" Chase asked Davenport. The latter misinterpreted the reason for the question and went on to explain how he made the robot.

"Simple. I, uh took the foundations of a robot I built for private security and I repurposed the software. And then of course I matched her vocal pattern. It wasn't easy matching the sounds of a gravel truck unloading with a bear in labor but I got it." Perry was grinning from ear to ear. I've never seen her this happy unless she just destroyed someone's self esteem.

"I always wanted a super cute twin sister. I'm gonna buy us matching bikinis!"

"And I'm going to gouge my eyes out." I nodded to show I agreed with Leo.

"Shut it, Dooley." Robo Perry said.

"Thanks, Don!" Perry went to hug Davenport and he prevented her from doing so.

"H-hey- yeah, you're welcome. Yeah." Chase dragged Mr. Davenport away from the twin Perry's with Leo and me close behind.

"Why would you make another Perry?" He demanded angrily.

"Principal Perry said if I make her life easier she's gonna name a wing of the school after me."

"You sold us out just to hadn't your name above a doorway?" Leo asked in disbelief. I rolled my eyes.

"Once again, your ego takes over and ruins everything." I stated, clearly annoyed.

"Hey. If my name on this school brings more prestige and funding because I'm awesome, then that's a win-win-win-win." He pointed to each of us and him while saying this, " That's four wins! That's a Daven-Win!"

"Maybe for you!" I yelled as he went to join the Perrys again.

"I'm gonna go and make sure there's enough room in my locker for when I'm locked in because it's inevitable at this point." I followed Leo to my own locker, unaware that a certain someone was following until he spoke up as I opened the locker door.

"Harper, I want to say I'm sorry about last night. I shouldn't have pried but I let my need to know everything and always be right get the better of me. I'm sorry." Sighing, I shook my head at him, even though he couldn't see since the locker door hid me from his line of sight.

"You don't have to apologize. I should have said something sooner I was just...concerned you'd think of me differently if you knew." I admitted.

"What do you mean?" He asked curiously.

"When people find out you're a foster child, they automatically assume something must be wrong with you. And obviously, there is something wrong with me if my parents abandoned me but I don't want the whole world to know that. I want people to think I'm screwed up just because I am, not because of where I came from."

"You're not screwed up." I chuckled dryly and after shutting my locker, books in hand, I looked at him.

"Trust me, one day you'll join the list of people who look at me and wonder "What the heck is wrong with Harper?"" Chase smiled with amusement.

"I've already asked myself that, but that's before I started learning more about you."

"So what do you think of me now?" I asked curiously. My palms suddenly got clammy as he looked at me with a thoughtful expression.

"Now," he paused and I grew more nervous with each passing moment while he thought about what to say. "I think of you like a puzzle that I'm having a hard time trying to put together." I tilted my head and hummed. His answer was interesting.

"I think that's the least insulting thing you've ever said to me." I told him.

"It was more of a compliment." My expression morphed into one of surprise. "I've only been in the real world for a few months and so far you're the only one who I haven't been able to read like an open book. And it frustrates me yet intrigues me at the same time." He didn't sound annoyed over this.

"I would say the same thing about you, but if I'm being honest you're probably the least complicated person I know. And it's..." I contemplated what word to use. He's become less guarded the more we hang out, I almost feel like I can trust him, if I didn't have trouble trusting people that is. And it's..."...refreshing." I said out loud, deciding that perfectly described how I felt.

"That's probably the least insulting thing you've said about me."

"It was more of a compliment." I said, repeating his previous comment and he smiled and looked away. I think I saw a faint blush on his cheeks and for a second I was sad because it was obvious he didn't get many compliments. And I'm not sure why. When you get past his ego and general awkwardness there was someone who cared about others. I don't think I've ever met someone more brave or smart than him.

The bell rang and it made both of us jump and cover our ears.

"Bionic hearing." We both said and we chuckled. We were so engrossed in our conversation we didn't realize the bell was about to ring and therefore couldn't brace ourselves for the noise.

"I'll walk you to class, it's on my way to Advanced Chemistry." I didn't know how to respond, feeling weird after our conversation, so I just nodded.

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for kids to start turning on the Davenports. When lunchtime came around the next day, Leo and Chase were forced to eat in the common area. I haven't seen Bree or Adam all day so I'm not sure if they are suffering like these two were.

I preferred eating out here anyway, so I joined the pair and we ate our lunches in silence.

Our heads turned and we saw Robo Perry drag a student out of a classroom.

"Keep it up Chip Parker, and you will be in detention forever you - searching database for insult...mouth breather."

"Great. Everybody at school hates us." Leo said angrily.

"Yeah, but now it's high-tech." Chase added as Mr. Davenport walked towards us, coming from the cafeteria.

"Hey, how come you guys aren't eating in the Davenportaria?" Chase huffed.

"Funny thing. When your dad created an even worse version of the worst Principal ever, kids tend to turn on you." To prove his point, a kid knocked his banana out of his hands just as he was about to eat it.

"Exhibit A." I said.

"Look, don't worry. I'm sure this will all blow over once the kids get used to Robo Perry. Remember when you first met Leo? You couldn't stand him." Leo looked at Chase with wide eyes and Chase laughed nervously before giving Mr. Davenport an annoyed look for bringing it up.

"If it makes you feel better, I couldn't stand any of you when we first met." I said and now I was the one getting looks. Thankfully Perry showed up and prevented what would have been an awkward conversation.

"Donny D!"

"Principal P!" Both proceeded to do a weird handshake that ended with them bumping hips.

"Old people. You don't think you are, but you are." Leo commented.

"You are a genius." She praised, feeding into Donnys already humongous ego.

"And you are a master of the obvious." There's the proof.

"Robo Perry is amazing! I know it's only been a few days but-" She paused and sniffed the air, "Do you smell that?"

"Moist cat food?" Chase answered and I laughed but when Perry glared at me I cleared my throat and hid my smile with my hand.

"I was running late, I grabbed a can. I thought it was tuna! Live with it!" She told us furiously and then after calming down she sniffed again. " Fear. It's fear and it's everywhere. It's the best smell in the world."

"I prefer crisply-minted hundreds, but whatever floats your boat, Perry Bomb." Perry and Donald laughed until the former spoke again.

"Listen, I was telling the superintendent how wonderful Robo Perry is, and he's bringing the entire school board by this afternoon to check her out. Soon, if we're lucky, there will be a Robo Perry in every school in the district."

"Then, America."

"Great, now every kid we've never met will hate us." Leo told Chase and me. Donald put an arm around Perry's shoulder and it almost looked like he was about to cry.

"Donald Davenport: The Children's Savior." The three of us shared exasperated looks. Just when we thought his ego couldn't get any bigger. "I'm gonna make so much money!"

"And as your partner, I'll be happy to give you thirty percent."

"Well, I think you're forgetting who created this work of genius?"

"Well, I think you're forgetting who's putting this whole deal together." I wondered if they'd start arguing and grew excited at the idea of a Perry/Davenport smackdown. "Why don't we go discuss this in my office. I think a lot more clearly on my butt-massaging chair." Donny blinked and I think he became a little pale

"I'm sorry, I blacked out after the word chair." He said, his voice a little shaky.

"Now what do we do?" Leo asked us after the adults left. A list of ideas ran through my head and I snapped my fingers which caught both of the boy's attention.

"I got it! They're expecting a robot that patrols the halls and ruins kid's lives, right?" Chase and Leo nodded, "What if we were to mess with the programming and make it totally useless?" I finished, and Chase jumped from his seat in excitement.

"You're a genius!" Chase exclaimed.

"Takes one to know one!" I replied and we shared excited looks until we realized that Leo was still with us.

"Ok, this is the scariest thing I've seen all day." He said, looking wide-eyed at us both. Chase and I glanced at each other.

"What is?" Chase asked him.

"The two of you are suddenly acting like Big D and Perry." I scoffed and waved this off.

"No, we're not." I denied then I turned to Chase and rubbed my hands together excitedly. "So, how should we do it?" I asked.

"I'll find the control panel and reprogram Robo Perry from there." Chase said and I nodded.

"Ok, ten minutes after the bell rings, sneak out of class at the top of the stairs. Robo Perry usually needs to charge after lunch is over."

"Done." He and I started discussing what to reprogram Robo Perry to do and eventually walked off, leaving Leo alone.

I purposely left my textbook in my locker so I'd have an excuse to leave class. Chase and I met where we said we would and Leo was there too.

We looked around the corner to see if the coast was clear before making our way down the stairs. Robo Perry was where I said she'd be.

"Ok, the coast is clear and everyone is in class and Robo Perry is charging." Leo said, pointing to her.

"I just need to find out where Mr. Davenport put her control panel." Chase said and we walked over. Chase put two fingers to his temple and scanned the robot. He dropped his hand and looked annoyed when he turned to us. "Hundreds. Hundreds of places to choose from and he puts it-" he lifted Robo Perry's right arm and pointed to her armpit. "-there." It was probably done on purpose but that wasn't important right now.

"Oh suck it up! We don't have time to be squeamish!" I hissed. Chase sighed and reached under Perry's arm to rip away the fabric and reveal the control panel. Chase gagged.

"She's a robot! How does she sweat?" I rolled my eyes, losing my patience.

"Oh for the love of-give me that!" I grabbed the tool from Chase and got to work. In no time I had programmed the robot to act completely different. Standing straight I handed the tool back to an impressed Chase. "Done. Instead of seeing Robo Perry patrolling the halls, the school board will see this." I turned Robo Perry on and she got up and started playing music while dancing. I watched my handiwork proudly and when I turned I raised an eyebrow upon seeing Chase and Leo dancing along to the music. They didn't stop and I was amused to see Chase do the water sprinkler move.

We heard a high-pitched yelp and turned to see Mr. Davenport watched with wide eyes as Robo Perry did the moonwalk.

"What did you guys do?" He exclaimed.

"Tapped into her control panel and adjusted the settings. You messed with us, now it's payback time." Mr. Davenport looked at us with wide eyes.

"No no, Robo perry's original programming was military patrolling. If any unauthorized user tempers with it, it resets to its factory default."

"So reset her date and time. Big deal." Chase said while shrugging. Mr. Davenport's hands clenched.

"The factory default is search and destroy!" He shouted through gritted teeth.

"Come again?" I asked and when I saw Robo Perry's eyes turn red I realized we made a huge mistake.

"Threat detected. Destroy." Robo Perry grabbed Donald and sent him flying into a group of lockers.

"That's what you call a Daven Splat." Leo told us and I gave him and Chase a look when they both smiled. The smiles left their faces when they saw the look I gave them and they went to go help Mr. Davenport get back up.

"Out of my way space wasters." Robo Perry threw a recycling container as we watched from a distance. Leo and Chase were holding Mr. Davenport up.

"We have to stop her before she destroys the school." Donny said.

"I think we can divert her attention and lure her into that empty classroom. We just need some bait." Chase said.

"I vote for Harper." My jaw dropped as I looked at Leo.

"Me, why me?" I demanded.

"It was your idea to change her settings." I sighed.

"Fine! I'll do it." I was not so gently pushed forward and after taking a deep breath I called out to the robot. " Hey, bucket of bolts!" Robo Perry looked at me.

"Tiny threat detected." I gasped.

"Tiny! I am not tiny!" I yelled and I would've said more but the robot started chasing after me.

Having the robot follow me into the classroom was easy, it was when I tried to escape that things got complicated.

It was hard, but I managed to escape mostly intact, save for one of my shirt sleeves being ripped off and my hair was messed up.

I rushed out of the classroom and shut the door quickly before Robo Perry could escape. I kept an iron grip on the door knob so the door couldn't be opened.

"Harper are you ok?!" Chase asked as they hurried over.

"What do you think?!" I yelled back, doing my best to keep the door from opening with my super strength. But Robo Perry was strong too. I jumped when the robot started banging on the door.

"How could you guys do this to me?" Donny asked us.

"We had no choice! You doubled the Perry which doubled our pain. " Chase told him and he came over to help me keep the door shut. Not like he could be much of a help but I appreciated his help nonetheless. Mr. Davenport, who'd pondered what Chase said, finally sighed.

"Ok, maybe you guys are right. From now on I will not let my ego get the better of me. Which shouldn't be hard since I'm awesome at everything." Donald looked at the front doors, "Oh great the school boards here!" Donny put on a fake smile and walked over.

"Principal Perry." He greeted with fake enthusiasm.

"What's the word Donny bird?" She said back, "Uh where's Robo me?" Donald glanced at us briefly.

"Uh, she is supervising a parent-teacher conference." We all jumped when a loud crash came from behind the door. "Not going well."

"Well get that beautiful hunk of metal out here. I want to show her off."

"Why don't we stay out here so we can enjoy a beautiful hunk of you." I was about to gag until the door was ripped off its hinges and I was forced to let go of the doorknob while Chase screamed. We stepped back as Robo Perry marched out of the classroom.

"There she is. Come give your beautiful sissy a kissy." Perry said and this time I did gag.

"Threat detected."

"Threat? I'm no threat, what are you talking about?" Robo Perry began chanting 'destroy' as she walked closer. "Destroy me? Oh honey many have tried. I don't think so." Robo Perry grabbed the real Perry and they struggled for a bit before the latter shoved Robo Perry away. "Alright I don't know what's going on but you're going down metal me."

"No, you are going down fleshy me." What proceeded to happen was not a Donald/ Perry smackdown like I had wanted before. Instead, it was Perry against Robo Perry.

"We're not getting much of an education but where else can you see that?" Leo commented and Chase laughed while I watched the fight continue.

"Don, what's going on? I don't think I can hold her much longer. She's strong, you must have gave her some of my unbridled rage!" Robo Perry threw Perry across the room.

I saw Adam and Bree come out of the gym and waved them over.

"Mr. Davenport, how are we going to stop Robo Perry?" Chase asked as his siblings joined the group.

"We don't have a choice you're going to have to use your bionics."

"You want us to expose ourselves to the school board?"

"No, he wants us to use our bionics in front of the school board." Adam told Chase, making us all look at the former with annoyance.

"We have to do something before she destroys the entire school." Mr. Davenport said and after taking a deep breath I spoke up.

"I'll do it." I volunteered, "I'm the one who messed with her programming. "

"No, we can't let you do that!" Chase protested but I shook my head.

"It's my fault, I have to fix it!" All five of us started arguing and Mr. Davenport cut us off.

"Just do something!" He shouted impatiently.

Just as he said this Principal Perry started screaming and the next thing we knew Robo Perry's head was ripped off.

"There can only be one Perry." The short woman declared while holding the head that had sparks flying from the bottom.

"Still one too many." Leo muttered to us.

The one good thing to come out of this is that there weren't going to be Robo Perry's wandering the halls of the schools of America after this.
