Chapter 35:
Plane Good Battle
Location: Mistralton City
My team for my next Gym challenge against the Flying Type user Skyla was picked. My newly evolved Samurott, Gothorita in its match debut, Unfezant to be on equal ground (air?), Excadrill because it knows Rock Slide, Litwick also for its battling debut and Pansear. Well, sort of.
"You ready?" I asked Pansear, as I went into my Bag and pulled out the Fire Stone. Pansear jumped about excitedly. "Okay. Let's do this!" I threw the Fire Stone up into the air. Pansear jumped up and caught it. The stone reacted and Pansear started to evolve! Its evolved form was Simisear, which had white fluffy elbows, a flame like tail and a goofy smile.
Simisear (バオツキー)
020
Fire Type
Ember Pokémon
3'03" (1 m)
61.7 lbs (28 kg)
It loves sweets because they become the energy for the fire burning inside its body.
Pansear -Fire Stone- Simisear
"Now we're set everyone! Let's get our sixth Badge! To the Hangar!"
Location: Mistralton City Gym
So, here's a question. HOW DO THESE GYMS PASS INSPECTION?! Seriously, there were cannons. Literal. Cannons. And how do you get around the Gym? You get fired from said cannons.
"You, champ in the ma-"
"HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!" I yelled at the Gym Guide. "How many complaints have you have?"
The Gym Guide got out a calculator and pressed on it. "Well now its 2011. So, you've seen how to get around this Gym. But how do you beat it? My advice; Rock and Electric Type moves. Don't even think about Ground Type moves though; they won't touch them." He handed me some Fresh Water and I put it away.
"Here goes…" I nervously said crawling into the door of the cannon. I felt the cannon turn as it aimed. Then, I was blasted off. It was a miracle I landed on my feet. Purrloin may have nine lives, but Trainers don't.
"Nice landing!" a Worker told me. "Looks like my cannons are still functional. A month ago they were going wild! So many bleeding noses. But let's see what your battle skills are like!"
Hilbert Vs. Worker Cliff
"Tranquill, go!" Cliff yelled.
"I choose Simisear!" I replied.
"Tranquill, Air Slash!" Tranquill slashed through the air. Thankfully, Simisear dodged.
I was to ask if Simisear could use Flame Burst. Instead, Simisear fired a wall of flames at Tranquill. It was sizzled up in one. "Oh my goodness, Fire Blast!" I shouted. "Well, good thing you learned that before evolving!"
"Well, you can certainly fly and you certainly can battle. Good luck with the other cannons!"
"THERE'S MORE?!" I thought.
No joke, the cannons were in places where it would simply be better to just walk around. At least at the Nimbasa City Gym I was strapped in, so I had little concern of dying. In this Gym every time I went into a cannon I felt it would be my last. At least it would be an interesting way of going out.
Anyway, another Trainer I took on was a Pilot.
"Please do not battle when the seatbelt sign is on. And it isn't, so show me your skills!"
Hilbert Vs. Pilot Ted
"Gothorita, go!" I shouted, summoning it.
"Go Ducklett!" Ted replied.
"Gothorita, Psyshock!" Gothorita fired psychic balls at Ducklett. Ducklett was knocked back.
"Ducklett, Roost!" Ducklett nestled down and healed itself back to full HP. I was concerned that this battle would go nowhere, when suddenly Gothorita created a psychic field around Ducklett.
"Looks like you'll need the life jacket under your chair, because it's time for a Water Type move. Ducklett, Surf!" Ducklett created a large wave that swamped Gothorita.
"Psyshock!" Gothorita fired balls at Ducklett once again, equivalent of the damage done before.
"Roost Ducklett!" However, Ducklett couldn't do it. "I think the pressure is changing." Ted got out one of those things on planes that hang down from the ceiling when the pressures low. "Don't worry if the bag isn't inflating. Oxygen is flowing. Also, you learned Heal Block. It disables healing moves like Roost and Recover."
"Then we will take that opportunity. Gothorita, Psyshock!" Gothorita fired psychic balls one more time. It was a Critical Hit and took out Ducklett.
"It's time for final cabin check. Come on out Sigilyph!"
"Litwick, it's time for your debut!" My little candle was sent out into its first battle.
"Sigilyph, Air Cutter!" Sigilyph fired streaks at Litwick, but they all missed.
"Litwick, Will-O-Wisp!" Litwick sent a blue floating flame over to Sigilyph. It hit and Sigilyph was burned.
"Another Air Cutter!" This one did hit, but Litwick was fine.
"Hex Litwick!" Litwick opened its eyes and hurt Sigilyph. It was Super Effective, but also did even more due to the burn. Sigilyph was finished.
"Get ready for take-off when you fight Skyla!"
After some more battling and MORE CANNONS (including one where I was blasted headfirst into a wall, I think I'll need braces to get my teeth straight again), I finally made it up to Skyla.
"Thanks again for checking up on me," Skyla said. "Welcome to the Mistralton Gym. I have worked hard to keep my jobs afloat and keeping my Pokémon strong. Did you have fun flying from the cannons?"
Flying was a bit debatable. I'd rather call it falling with style.
And I will show you what it's like to work as hard as I do; it has benefits. Okay, we are ready to take off!"
Hilbert Vs. Gym Leader Skyla
"Samurott, go!" I shouted, worrying that it might be a bit early to use my strongest Pokémon.
"Go Swoobat!" Skyla replied. "Use Acrobatics!" Swoobat flew through the air, doing multiple tricks in the process. When it reached Samurott, it kicked it. Samurott was knocked back.
"Use Razor Shell!" Samurott took a scalchop and sliced Swoobat.
"Use it again!" Swoobat tossed and turned, then hit Samurott. It was taken down.
I was immediately concerned. "Excadrill come out!" I knew Acrobatics wouldn't do much against a Steel Type.
"Acrobatics again!" As I said, this didn't do much.
"Use Rock Slide Excadrill!" Excadrill made multiple rocks fall from out of nowhere. They piled on top of Swoobat, finishing it off.
I decided to switch for something different, as there were still two Pokémon left and I didn't want to risk Excadrill fainting too early. "Litwick, you're next!" I yelled.
"Go Unfezant!" Skyla shouted. I remembered that whilst the male Unfezant is stronger, the females are faster. "Use Air Slash!" Unfezant swiped through the air at Litwick. Litwick thankfully didn't flinch.
"Will-O-Wisp!" Litwick fired a flame at Unfezant that burned it.
"Use another Air Slash!" This one flew Litwick through the air and into my arms, where it fainted.
"Unfezant, you're next!" I shouted. Boy vs Girl it looks like.
"Facade!" Oh come on! Since it was burned, Facade did even more damage than usual.
"Unfezant, Fly!" My Unfezant flew into the air, meaning it was able to dodge another Facade. "Now!" My Unfezant attacked, and the burn was at least doing damage. "Now use Quick Attack!" My Unfezant darted forward into Skyla's before it could even attack.
"Facade once more!" Skyla's Unfezant attacked my Unfezant one last time, knocking it out before Skyla's succumbed to the burn.
"Well, it seems I'm down to my final Pokémon. We've almost landed. Swanna, go!" Skyla's final Pokémon was a beautiful Pokémon with a long yellow beak and cloud-white feathers.
Swanna (スワンナ)
087
Water/Flying Type
Water Bird Pokémon
4'03" (1.3 m)
53.4 lbs (24.2 kg)
It administers sharp, powerful pecks with its bill. It whips its long neck to deliver forceful, repeated strikes.
Ducklett -Lv 35- Swanna
"Simisear, I choose you!" I shouted. I was aware of the Type disadvantage, but rather Simisear fall there than fall last.
"Swanna, Bubblebeam!" Swanna fired a jet of bubbles at Simisear. Obviously, it did a lot of damage.
"Simisear, Acrobatics!" Simisear jumped all over the places, before kicking Swanna in the beak.
"Bubble Beam again!" Swanna shot more bubbles at Simisear, finishing it off.
"Gothorita, go!" I yelled.
"Swanna, Air Slash!" Swanna sliced the air and it hit Gothorita. Even worse was that it flinched. "Now use Aerial Ace!" Swanna dove into Gothorita, knocking it out.
"Excadrill, you're my Swanna's song!" Truly it was though.
"Bubble Beam!" Swanna fired bubbles at Excadrill, who took it much better than Simisear.
"Okay, let's use Rock Slide!" Excadrill made rocks fall from above. They all fell on Swanna, knocking it out.
"Well, I guess I'm not the only working hard!" Skyla said. "You and your Pokémon truly soared high today. You are more than worthy of the Jet Badge." Skyla handed me a light blue badge that looked like a feather. "On top of this, I will give you TM58 for the move Sky Drop. It lifts the Pokémon into the air; they can't even attack! Then, the next turn, they drop them. It's really good, not many Pokémon can learn it. It's also currently banned in Doubles and Triples. Traded Pokémon up to Lv. 60 will also obey your commands!"
"Thank you, Skyla! Now how do I get out?"
Skyla moved to the right a bit to show me one more cannon.
NOOOOOO!
Location: Mistralton City Pokémon Center
"So shiny!" said Bianca. "I'd love to get one to!"
I got out my Town Map. "It looks like the next Gym is in Icirrus City. To get there, we have to cross Twist Mountain."
"Twist Mountain?" Nurse Joy said, overhearing us. "You need to be really careful. It's Winter, which is when Twist Mountain is covered in snow. There are a lot of Ice Types up there."
I knew to heed that warning.
"Sorry I'm late!" said a familiar voice coming in through the Pokémon Center doors.
"Cheren!" Me and Bianca both shouted. He was completely healed up.
"Sorry about that. What did I miss?"
I showed Cheren my Badge Case to show the Jet Badge gleaming in the lights. "What do you think?"
"Cheren," Bianca said. "I'll let you take on Skyla tomorrow. I think I need a bit more training for Twist Mountain."
Cheren adjusted his glasses. "Okay then. After I've beaten the Gym Leader, I challenge Hilbert to a battle!"
I got myself a new Badge and Cheren is back in the game! A man who was one step behind us but now might be two steps ahead of us, but I'll see tomorrow. Otherwise, I have quite the trek coming up. I've read about Twist Mountain; it's no joke.
