Chapter 35
It was an amazing night. After dinner, they went for a walk by the river, shared ice cream, went dancing at a little bar and then finally back to the hotel. They spent the night; talking, laughing, crying and making love. It was all perfect for them and exactly what they needed. Just as the sun was coming up, Christine woke up and smiled at her sleeping husband. It took her back, many years before.
"Oh, that feels so good." Christine said with a laugh. She was heavily pregnant with their first baby and Mike spoiled her rotten. He was giving her a foot and ankle massage.
"Your ankles are so swollen." Mike remarked.
"They say it happens when you're overdue. And I don't want to be induced. My back hurts so bad. A massage to my back would feel good." Christine commented.
"If this keeps going on, you may have to consider it." Mike said as he settled behind her and began massaging her back. It really didn't ease the pain and after a few moments, Christine told Mike that she was tired and they went to sleep. Several hours later, she got up to go to the bathroom, and as soon as her feet hit the floor; her water broke.
"Mikeā¦Mike?" Christine said as she shook her sleeping husband.
"Too early." Mike groaned.
"We need to go to the hospital. My water just broke." Christine told him. Mike jumped out of the bed like a shot and began throwing clothes on. Christine, however, was taking her time. She went to the bathroom, put clean clothes on, double checked her hospital bag and threw in a few more outfits for their new daughter. In true Mike fashion, he was becoming impatient and Christine finally consented to going to the hospital so he'd stop griping. She anticipated a long labor, but was only admitted for an hour before Kaitlyn made her appearance. She cried a little and then settled into Christine's arms.
"She's so perfect." Mike said. He was sitting on the bed next to Christine, staring at their baby.
"Yes, she is." Christine agreed. Watching Mike with Kaitlyn made her love him even more.
"I know we are a little short of money, but I wanted to give you something." Mike said as he pulled out a jewelry box. Since Christine was holding Kaitlyn, Mike opened it for her, revealing a bracelet with a charm on it.
"Oh, Mike. Its beautiful." Christine said before giving him a kiss. He helped her put it on and then gave their tiny daughter a kiss.
"And she's beautiful, thanks to you. I love you." Mike told her.
"I love you more." Christine answered with a laugh.
In his sleep, Mike turned on his side and wrapped his arms around her. He nuzzled the back of her neck and pulled her even closer. She loved it when he did that. She squeezed his hand and smiled. Now that they were finally working their marriage out, he needed to concentrate on Hannah and whatever was going on with the associates; something that might be harder.
