POV 1 GO

I see one of the Duelists that defeated the Chemic duo. They were mentioned to have the ability to call their allies to their position. Ghost Girl mentioned something similar.
Yet, she does not use that ability. She is clearly an ally of Playmaker, so this will be a valuable victory to me.

I though about facing multiple duelists of his faction before that duel witht he faceless Knight of Hanoi. Afterwards, I pondered about facing a "lesser ally" first.
While I didn't know about Lonely Brave, Crystal Princess or AX3 (who is already defeated) beforehand, I had a feeling he was concealing more than just a few people as soon as Ultimate Speed Rider and ScytHeart has their debut duel. He still lost a duel against someone other than me, which means he isn't as powerful as everyone thinks, so what IS the right course?

"You want to face me alone?", I ask her.

"You pretended to be a KOH just to face Playmaker and seem to have quit after losing a duel after he defeated you. I have no idea what crazy thing you might do, if I were to call Playmaker or ScytHeart to my side.", she says.

"If you think that is the right choice, do it. We will see whether you actually are right."

Action Field: on

Crossover

GO (4000lp) vs Crystal Princess (4000lp)

And screw not striving for a goal too high up. If Playmaker indeed could be defeated by an enemy so soon, I have to face the strongest challenges. However, since I am not as desperate as some people might think (And yes, because searching for the opponent's I want in here is very difficult) I won't complain if they don't throw themselves at me.
So, if my opponent is not Playmaker or a high-ranking Knight of Hanoi themselves, I will instead not use any Action Cards this time and minimize my usage of the power that Heel Hitter granted me. Wait, why do I think I can reuse it? Ok, now that I think back, the owner of Yavix never said anything about not being reusable.

He said I should accept that I need to change my style, but what does that mean? Maybe it is a new deck. Should it be Dynawrestlers? No, it still is a wrestling deck, that might be too little of a change. Dammit, why am I digressing now?

"Since Crossover IS a field spell, I can play a certain monster without risks. I banish Rainbow Dragon from my deck, to summon Malefic Rainbow Dragon. (ATK: 4000) I set a monster card 2 more in my backrow. Rainbow, block his path!"

"Hurling a giant dragon at me to get your Action Card? A little extreme, isn't it?", I say. Not that it matters here.

"You're the number one Charisma Duelist, whether you're going crazy about a loss or not.", Crystal Princess says.

"This is the part where I should day 'flattery will get you nowhere' and ignore the insulting part isn't it?", I ask.

I look at the giant dragon, waiting her to pick up an oncoming bubble. *sigh* to think that I am thinking this in a moment like this.

"Your turn now.", she says.

"MY TURN, DRAW! I use Reinforcement of the Army, adding Gouki Suprex to my hand. I normal summons Suprex and with Suprex' effect I summon Ironclaw from my hand! (DEF: 0) I use Inferno Reckless Summon to get a second Ironclaw to my field. Even if you have multiple, you cannot summon Malefic Rainbow Dragon without its own effect.
Show yourself, circuit of my victory! Arrowheads confirmed! The summoning conditions are 2 or more Gouki monsters! I set the Link Markers with 2 copies of Gouki Ironclaw and one Gouki Suprex! LINK SUMMON! Enter the ring, Gouki the Great Ogre! (ATK: 2600 Markers: Down, Bottom-left, Bottom-right)"

"Thank god Malefic Rainbow Dragon has no DEF to lose ATK from.", Crystal Princess says.

"I don't plan on boosting him either. I'll aim for something more. First, I add 2 new Gouki Cards to my hand. I choose Gouki Diver and Re-Match. I discard Diver to summon Headbatt. The Great Ogre would rise to 3400 ATK, but that is irrelevant here. I use my second Inferno Reckless Summon to bring out the other 2 Headbatts from my deck. I use all three Headbatts to Link Summon Thunder Ogre! (ATK: 2200 Markers: Up, Bottom-left, Bottom-right)"

"Please don't be that Link 8 from your duel against Playmaker. Couldn't you just go Match-Up into the train. Or just do stuff with Norden. Or Allvain the Final Nothingness or-"

"I'll stop you listing the targets.", and no the Superheavy Samurai isn't in my Extra Deck, I decided to focus on the card the power gave me for this duel, "I use Re-Match to bring back Diver and Headbatt. I use all of my monsters for another Link Summon! Strongest of the strong Oni, Raise your primal fist upon your enemies and crush them under your rage! LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Link 8, Gouki the Ultimate Ogre! (ATK: 4000 Markers: Everywhere)"

"Crap. At least Malefic Rainbow Dragon is in- Wait, why did you not summon it in a zone where he can banish Rainbow?", Crystal Princess wonders.

" First, my search from Headbatt. I add Gouki Cage Match to my hand. I activate it and place 3 counters on it. Then I set a card. Normally, I would say it's the fear of some crazy flip effect, but I know why you added Malefic Rainbow Dragon to your deck. I need to see how much stronger I got before I face Playmaker again or whoever defeated him. So I will not inhibit your attempt to summon the true ace of Crystal Beasts. Ultimate Crystal Beast Painite Devil."

"Geez, you really are as crazy about this as everyone says.", Crystal Princess mutters, "Look, professional duels aren't gonna stop being watched just because there's some cool vigilante running around. Regardless of you dueling for an orphanage, what is wrong with you? "

"What is wrong with wanting a rematch with Playmaker?", I ask back.

"That the question of whether it happens is what decides whether your in favor or against his vigilantism. I could have phrased this in a more simpler way, but was there never a threat to your popularity from inside the world of Link VRAINS before?"

"I'll admit, you're making me think. But this is about dueling, so before I respond, allow me to attack your face-down monster!"

"I got Shungite Urchin and I'll allow it to enter my GY. Then I activate Ultimate Crystal Magic! I mill another Shungite alongside Diamond Snake, Selenite Shark, Taafeite Monkey, Jeremejevite Banshee, Poudretteite Puppy and Zektzerite Stag-"

The card designers really have gotten more loose in their decision of what counts as 'beast'.

"-to Fusion Summon Rainbow Overdragon! (ATK: 4000) Then I use Rainbow Gravity to summon Rainbow Dark Dragon! (ATK: 4000)"

"But Malefic Rainbow Dragon prevents your other monsters from attacking, so you are forced to summon a Rank 10 Xyz Monster. Also, I get to remove the first counter from Cage Match after this battle. Now, before I end my turn, what is Your Purpose in this conflict?"

"I've been asked that by the Chemic duo as well and my answer remains the same. I am here because of a dear friend.", she answers.

"Does that friend hate Hanoi or SOL? If they were in favor of one of those factions, they would have joined them, but this friend or Playmaker clearly isn't on either side, so at best, Hanoi has wronged them or Playmaker in a minor way that SOL would not care about.", I say, "Were you even told their reason? Because some people believe that these allies Playmaker suddenly has weren't held back and actually joined him recently. Though allies for him appearing out of nowhere would be ridiculous. I end my turn."

"My turn, draw. I use Call of the Greatest Dragon to add a level 5 or higher dragon to my hand and as you guessed it, I choose Rainbow Dragon. I summon him. (ATK: 4000)"

"Yes, summon it. A worthy opponent for the Ultimate Ogre!"

"The summoning conditions are 2 or more level 10 monsters with 4000 ATK and 0 DEF. The Doombringer needs no fancy incantation! XYZ SUMMON! Come forth, Rank 10, Ultimate Crystal Beast Painite Devil! (ATK: 4000)"

For each overlay unit, this card gains a new effect. For one overlay unit, she can mill Advanced Dark and Ancient City Rainbow Ruin to either grant itself or an existing Field Spell both of their combined effects. Though since Crossover is technically a Field Spell, Painite isn't saved by the first effect of Rainbow Ruins.
For two overlay units, Painite's controller can discard spell and trap cards to use them from their hand. Crystallize Magic Zone and this aren't even the only ways for this archetype to do that, though it isn't used often.
With 3 overlay units, she can summon any number of monsters from her backrow to the field.
With 4 differently named overlay units, she can send her current backrow (if she has one) to the GY to replace it with a new one made of Crystal Beasts made of continous spells.
Were it easier to summon it would be on par with some pro-exclusive cards that we Charisma Duelists sometimes receive to put our duels above the regular ones.

"I use the first effect, thinning my deck a little bit more. Then I give myself the ideal backrow! I pick Puppy, Snake and Banshee. Devil's ATK rises! (ATK: 4000-5200) Attack GO's monster!"

"I use Gouki Kickout! Your attack is negated and the turn is over!", I counter.

"I use the effect of Rainbow Ruins, I negate it by sending Puppy to the GY, via Rainbow Ruins' effect! Because Puppy is so faithful, he immediately returns to the field, meaning I don't even loose the boost of Snake! (GO LP: 4000-2800) Is something of that outdated dueling style still within you or did you forget that ruling?"

"Banshee would allow you to steal Ultimate Ogre, but I prevent it with my skill. You see I can't just use Castle Builder to use the full extent of Destroy Ogre's sideways markers. The true skill of Gouki's is this! Fighting Spirit revives all Goukis that were destroyed by battle this turn before your monster can steal them! Since Speed Dueling was impossible for a long while, I assume you forgot this ruling as well? Also, I put him in the middle Main Monster Zone, locking you out of your Extra Deck once Painite is gone."

"I end my turn.", she grunts.

"My turn.", I say.

"As you draw, I rearrange my backrow, exchanging Banshee for Taafeite. I use is effect to grant my monsters immunity to effects and destruction in battle for the duration of this turn, but Taafeite is destroyed at the end of the turn. Also, remember that Rainbow Ruin's negation does not even have a soft once per turn. So I can negate 4 Spells and traps with Devil this turn. Are you gonna try to force them out?"

"But it can only negate activation, not activated effects of spells and traps that already are on the field, which means that my Cage Match will continue succesfully. And did you really watch my duel against Playmaker? I set a card and attack using two more effects of Ultimate Ogre. Since there previously was a battle where he didn't inflict damage, you take 500 points now. (Crystal Princess LP: 4000-3500) I am also able to swap the ATK value of our monsters. (Ultimate Ogre ATK: 4000-5200 Painite Devil LP: 5200-4000)"

"Taafeite protects him and Rainbow Ruins halve damage. (Crystal Princess LP: 3500-2900)"

"But I still get to remove another counter. And after switching out the attack points, the continous effect of Diamond Snake is not re-applied. I end my turn and you have to detach one of your overlay units from Rainbow Dragon"

"I detach the standard Rainbow Dragon. And Taafeite is destroyed before I start my turn. I draw and use Aurora Draw. I activate E-Force to summon Diamond Snake in attack position. I set my Action Card."

"So it was a useless one then?", I ask.

"Shut up. I use M-Force to boost Painite by 500. (ATK: 4000-4500)"

I let her get the next Action Card without any resistance.

"I use Higher Dive, boosting Painite again. (ATK: 4500-5700) I attack and destroy your Ogre!"

I have no defense this time. (GO LP: 2800-2300)

But I do have this: "I use Link Restoration, bringing him back to the Extra Monster Zone!"

"Thankfully, I have my monsters in the right zones this time. Though I was premature with Diamond Snake... I have to end my turn here."

"I have used a supernatural ability that would let me gain cards before and will use it again, so I can't blame you for using this advantage, but what would you have done if your second Action Card had been as useless as the first?", I ask.

"I only almost won the first time agains the Chemic Duo because they made a show about holding back the first time and only won the second time because Alchemic's deck was heavily harmed by the deck restriction. My only hope against a Charisma Duelist IS a perfect game.", she bitterly admits.

"That attitude is foolish in multiple ways.", I say, "Playing the standard 'good cards', and hoping for me to have a terrible game is along the same line of thought, but gives you a slightly higher change of winning."

"Yeah, with Gouki's being able to search upon their destruction, I doubt that. What are the other ways?"

"Well, in addition to my first point, using an unwise tactic like this, is terrible from the standpoint of fighting a serious battle and secondly, no true duelist would give in so easily."

"If I gave in, would this duel still be going? And when did you become my mentor? Though I can't call you a hypocrite since your flaws are very different from my own."

"You're just masking your defeatism. I start my turn my activating my own Aurora Draw. I activate Gouki Shout and set another card. I attack Painite and with Shout Ultimate Ogre gains 300 ATK since I don't control any other monster right now. (Crystal Princess LP: 2900-2600) But the amount of monsters will change now. I remove the last counter from Cage Match. From my deck I summon Riscorpio, Twist Cobra and Hugbear (ATK: 2100; 1600; 2200 respectively) Since Hugbear was summoned with a Gouki card, he halves the power of your Diamond Snake (ATK: 2100-1050) I attack it with Hugbear, with me now having 4 Gouki monsters, he gains 1200 ATK. (ATK: 2200-3400)"

Her luck with Action Cards (If you discount the very first one she got) might continue for now. Unfortunately, Hugbear hits first, before she receives another one of them. (Crystal Princess LP: 2600-250)

"I won't put Diamond Snake in my backrow.", she says.

"I attack with Twist Cobra, its ATK rises to 2800, but it shouldn't matter."

"Yes, because Zero Penalty takes away all of them.", and this time, she gets another immediately, "How can I be this lucky? Super Safeguard, prevents me from taking damage of Ultimate Ogre's effect. Since it technically doesn't do anything with him directly, his selective immunity won't matter."

"You know what? Get another one before I attack with Riscorpio. If after all my stupid worrying I still deserve to be at number one, I can defeat you, even if you have all the luck in the world! Do it!"

"Uh, b-bold declaration, but I take this um, challenge.", she says and waits, "I guess I got Encore and use Zero Penalty to take away Riscorpio's ATK. Why am I worried about getting the umpteenth good Action Card apart from that one time?"

"You're worried about when this lucky streak is going to end, whether something bad will eventually happen to balance this out. But there is no strategical reasons to refuse their usage. Though you shouldn't plan the duel or build your deck with certain Action Cards in mind. I end my turn."

Each of the previous 2 attacks removed a counter, bringing Cage March down to 1 again.

"So, we both have very different issues and I guess who has a response first or who has the better one will win. But confidence is easier than whatever your problem is.
I draw and activate Pot of Avarice, shuffling, Zektzerite, Taafeite, 2 copies of Shungite and Diamond Snake into my deck. I set a card and end my turn.", she says as she gets the next one.

"My turn. I set a card. Wasting no time, I attack with Ultimate Ogre, who rises to 5200 ATK once more."

"And I use the last card of the GEM Trio, G-Force! You now have to attack the Zekzerite Stag in my hand. Since 3000 ATK aren't enough to surive this, I activate the Skill Healing Staff giving me 200 LP for every monster on the field, which means 800 in this case! Crossover still has the power of Rainbow Ruins! I activate the Action Card Miniature Potion, which gives me a 100 LP! (Stag ATK: 3000-4200 Crystal Princess LP: 250-1050-1150-50) Zektzerite now enters the backrow. I am partially disgusted at my own luck, but also amazed as how it's still me who's in trouble. Also, your 1 counter should be gone and Cage Match's count should now reset without any summoning."

"I attack with Twist Cobra, who should rise to 3000 ATK now, but-"

"I use Zektzerite's effect, summoning it by destroying the useless face-down Action Spell. I put it in defense, just to be safe."

"I still attack, bringing the Cage Match counter down to 2 again. I attack with Riscorpio."

"I destroy Puppy, to summon Stag, butt Puppy comes back again. Zektzerite returns to the backrow again. Your counter is at 1."

„I attack with Hugbear again!"

„I destroy Poudretteite again to summon Zekzerite a last time. This time, I won't place him in my backrow. Your counter resets again with no summon."

„You're not gonna let go of betting everything on a perfect game, are you? I end my turn."

„Considering I switched to an alternate deck build at the start of this match, I can't back down now, I can only pick something better after I win this! I use Aurora Draw! I use Gem Burst, I banish all three forces from my GY! I put Banshee, Puppy and Stag from my GY in my backrow once this card hits the GY itself and inflict 500 damage for each to you!" (GO LP: 2300-800)

And this is one of the other cards that lets her use spells with a full backrow, and this one allows he to do so, as long as the card is in the GY and the cards banished for its cost stay banished. This time she gathers an Action Card before any major moves, not in the middle of a combo requiring one, but she doesn't use it instantly.

„Since I control three continous spells, I summon Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings (ATK: 1900) I attack your Ogre!"

„They were usually the right thing, So I assume this will be no different! I activate the Trap World Legacy Awakens. And I commend you one thing. It seems the heart of the cards was with you for enough time to make me use my CCE! Show yourself, circuit of last resort! The summoning conditions are three or more Gouki monsters! I set the markers with Hugbear, Riscorpio and Twist Cobra and Ultimate Ogre!"

"Yeah, Heart of the card, that is what I will call this.", Crystal Princess says.

How about for this time, I actually go back a step instead? And maybe, I will indeed take a step back in terms of my deck choice, but it won't be about Gilford the Lightning. But those thoughts are for after the Battle of Link VRAINS.

„Progenitor of the strongest Oni, show us your might! LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Link 4, Gouki Penultimate Ogre! (ATK: 3000 Markers: Up, Top-Left, Top-right, Down) It's summoned to point to your Dragon Queen, so she cannot attack or change her battle position now. And I get to search three new Gouki cards, more than making up for the fact that I sacrificed my strongest monster just now."

"I have to end my turn then. But I assume that Ultimate won't be gone for long.", she says.

"My turn again! I activate the Ritual Spell Gouku Tagging, I tribute the Hugbear and Twist Cobra to Ritual Summon Gouki Adversary Swingstriker! I tributed two monsters from the hand, so Swingstriker allows me to search 2 more cards. One of them is Gouki Poison Mist, which I'll use to inflict 700 points of damage!"

"I activate the Action Spell Netherworld Stand Up, this summons another 0/0 Token and I can end the turn when you would inflict effect damage!"

"So you were bluffing when you attacked my Ogre with Dragon Queen of Tragic Ending. So for at least that moment, you turned your weakness into a strength."

"We actually had a brief discussion about this earlier and we said that we are not truly relying on Action Cards unless we stop playing good cards because we'd be certain to get an Action Card fullfilling the same purpose. And I only did that a single time in the turn I used M-Force. So my problem was a one-time mistake much smaller than yours anyway! But thanks, I think . I have to let the token stay in attack position since Penultimate Ogre points to him. But the monster occupying my third main monster zone can still attack! And I have another huge monster for that. I send all continous spells to my GY -Puppy returns as always-, to Special Summon something. Giving Up my Lasting Magic, Burst the Clouds and shock my enemies! SPECIAL SUMMON! Come forth, Level 10, Hamon Lord of the Striking Thunder! (ATK: 4000) Attack Swingstriker!"

"He does have the stats to take my Lifepoints and if I only negate the battle damage, I take 1000 points in effect damage. But that doesn't matter! This time, I will interrupt your turn! I activate Gouki Kickout! Your attack is negated and the turn is over!"

She moves forward for yet another card bubble.

"I use negate on Swingstriker! I can end Battle Phases and negate attacks again!"

"This duel was interesting, but if your luck with Action Cards continues, then I will try my own and see if I can combine this with CCE."

"How exactly do you know what this is?", Crystal Princess says.

She has a point. The mysterious person that gave me Heel Hitter never named the power. And suddenly, the card named World Legacy Awakens suddenly feels strange to me, as if some memories from a long time ago are about to come back.

"Uhm, well, we are not on the same faction, I can tell you however much I want.", I say unusually confused, "Ahem, you caught me off-guard with that question, but I will have to force you to figure this out for yourself. My turn, draw. I activate Gouki Comeback, I shuffle Suprex, Twist Cobra, Hugbear, Ultimate Ogre and Ironclaw into my deck and draw 3 cards. I summon Gouki Suprex, summoning Hugbear from my hand. Hugbear's effect now halves the ATK of Hamon. (ATK: 4000-2000)
I use Link Plus, This allows me increase a Link Monsters Link by 2, but this doesn't grant it new markers . I use every monster I control except for Swingstriker to re-summon Ultimate Ogre! Then I get a few more searches. I activate Gouki Five-Star Fusion!"

"Now you have not just an Xyz Monster, but now Ritual and then a Fusion too? I though you only had links or that Heel Hitter was a one-time outlier!", Crystal Princess gasps.

"That's one of many ways I can evolve my supposedly outdated dueling style. I banish Great Ogre, Suprex, Headbatt and Hugbear and Diver to Fusion Summon Gouki Helldragger! (ATK: 3500) I used more than 2 non-link monsters, it gains ATK equal to half their total ATK except for the lowest two. Suprex and Hugbear have a total of 4200 ATK, so Helldragger gains 2100 (ATK: 3500-5600)"

"Why does that one have such a complicated calculation as part of its effect?", Crystal Princess complains.

"I didn't design this. Not even with my own CCE.", I blame it on Dunkelsieg, "Helldragger, attack!"

Hamon shrunk because of Hugbear's effect, but his lightning does blind me and my monsters, so I cannot prevent her from gathering a card.

"I use Big Escape! This battle phase is over."

"Technically you used a card and not a card effect, so Helldragger won't heal me by Hamon's ATK. But from the 13th turn of this duel onward, I will gather Action Cards as well. Your move now. Make it count. Hamon gains his attack points back. (ATK: 2000-4000)"

"My turn, draw!", while she does, I send out my monster to shove Hamon out of the way, "I summon Crystal Beast Zirconium Zombie by tributing the Standup token, he takes the level, name and abilities of the Rainbow Dragon I banished to summon the Malefic one!"

I have a card now.

"I activate the Action Spell Draw, I put more CCE into this!", anything that changes her attack target to Helldragger. I will show the card to you when I use it.

"I can tribute Zombie to summon Rainbow Over Dragon again! Also, I change Hamon to defense position, so you have to attack him first! Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings also is changed to DEF mode. I use Overdragon's effect to banish Painite Devil and gain its ATK! (ATK: 4000-8000) I attack Ultimate Ogre!"

"The card I drew is the pendulum monster Gouki Adversary Happy Robuster, I send him to the GY to make you attack Helldragger. The Battle damage is reflected to you. And when he is destroyed, I can revived him and strengthen him by either the combined power of every monster that is either weaker or stronger than him. which would be 12000 from Overdragon and Ultimate Ogre or 4900 from Dragon Queen and Swingstriker.
And before try to mention Overdragon's effect, Happy Robuster negates that one." (Crystal Princess LP: 50-2400=0)

WINNER: GO

"Since we're both fighting for people important to us, I will ask you a last question: Will you tell them of this duel to make your allies prepared for this, or will you keep it secret, so they won't be afraid? Choose wisely."

Then as she moves out of sight, I begin to remember the events of 10 years ago.

POV 2 Numen

"Your card design on Helldragger really wasn't the smoothest.", I say.

"I am humble and able to admit mistakes.", Kirito says, no doubt thinking that I am the biggest buffoon for stating this.

"But still, this 'battle of the giants' was quite enthralling.", Numen says.

"Yeah, GO sure stepped up from his loss against Playmaker and Dark Lady and then us.", Kirito says.

"With our help, he better do that.", I say, "Do you think that girl will tell Playmaker about how much GO's power has risen?"

"I hope so. Because then he'll make sure to bring all of his friends for a 1v3 slugfest!", Kirito says.

"But what if some of them loose and only he is left to face us two?", I ask.

"I'll find a way. I''m sure we will have lots of reasons to enter the fray after this battle of Link VRAINS is over.", Kirito says.

That should have given GO some credibility. The reason for his previous outings being less impressive is that I used to write the duel and the chapter in one go, thinking it would make it easier to incorporate the duel banter, but it made the duels more simplistic and stiff in reality. The last duel I wrote in the same breath as writing the chapter, was chapter 2 of Curran's Tale in this story it might have been Kirito's and Numen's debut, though there was a point where I alternated between both styles. In the special chapters only the first duel wasn't pre-planned.
Regardless of that, I hope Yukari's luck with Action Cards against him wasn't so annoying that her loss regardless of that doesn't make up for it. I did do it intentionally to build up GO.
The reason so many Crystal Beast OC cards exist is the fun in thinking up names for them. And since we don't just have Lich, but also Zombie (and you might count Giant already) I might pick a looser interpretation of beast, depending on which names I think sound good.

Temporal Distance between this and the previous chapter: 18 days. It's been a while since I was this quick. Chapter 37 will be 2 duels again, so the streak will probably stop then.
