Part 36
One month later
Barry took a deep breath as he rang the doorbell of the Queen Mansion. He smiled when Raisa opened the door.
"Mr. Barry please come in. I will let Mr. Queen and Dr. Tannhouser know you are here."
"Thank you." Said Barry
Barry went to wait in the parlor and started to pace. He didn't know why he was so nervous. It was not like he actually needed anyone's permission to ask Caitlin to marry him. But he wanted the blessing of her parents. To know that they approve of him. It was a few minutes later that both Carla and Robert walked in.
"Barry what brings you by without my daughter?" asked Carla
"Dr. Tannhouser, Mr. Queen I came by because I plan to ask Caitlin to marry me. I love her more than I have ever loved anyone." Said Barry
"Well I think we all know that you don't need anyone's permission to marry Caitlin. She is way to independent for that. If she wants to marry you she will do it with or without permission of her family." Said Robert
"That is why I didn't come to ask for permission. I came to ask for your blessing. While I know Cait will say yes weather or not we have your blessing or not. I would feel better if I know that you approve of us getting married." Said Barry
"Barry, you have made my daughter happier then she has been since her father passed away. So of course you have my blessing." Said Carla
"I may not be Caitlin's father Barry. But I do love her as much as my own children. So as long as she is happy with you then you have my blessing. But if you do anything to hurt her I will destroy you." Said Robert
"Trust me I know better than to hurt Cait. Oliver and Ronnie have made it clear that they will hurt me if I hurt her." Said Barry
"Then if Caitlin wants to marry you then you have my blessing as well." Said Robert
"Thank you." Said Barry
Barry left a short time later and headed home. He already had the perfect way to ask Caitlin planned. He was going to take her out to dinner at the restaurant that they had they had their first date at. While it was not a super fancy restaurant. It was a nice one. One that he would need to wear a sport coat or suit jacket at. He had already gone to the bank and taken his mom's ring out of the safety deposit box it had been stored in. He had talked to his dad who had been released a week ago after the DA got the confession from Eobard Thawne that Felicity had edited. Eobard Thawne now had a warrant for his arrest. But the truth was he was already in a prison he could not escape. He walked into his apartment to find Caitlin waiting for him.
"So where did you go?" asked Caitlin
"I had something to take care of. But it is all taken care of. Now we have dinner reservations in an hour at Antonio's. So why don't we get ready."
"Why do I have a feeling you are up to something?"
"Cait, why do I have to be up to something to take the woman I love out to a nice dinner?"
"I know you Barry Allen. But I am not going to turn down a romantic dinner."
Barry kissed Caitlin and they went to get ready for dinner. When they arrived at the restaurant they were shown to a table on the patio that had a view of the river. It was nice seeing as it was the perfect late spring evening. Not too cool but not hot either. They placed their order and waited for their food to arrive. Barry had ordered a bottle of wine for them to share knowing to stay away from the hard liquor after a night of them going out to a bar on a stake out for a meta that could teleport a couple of weeks ago. The meta never showed and the night ended with Caitlin so drunk that she dragged Barry on stage to sing Summer Nights from Grease during the bar's karaoke night. Barry ended up taking care of her when she ended up sick and hungover. Barry's powers prevented him from being able to get drunk. Caitlin took a sip of her wine.
"Have I told you how beautiful you are tonight?" asked Barry
"Yes but I never tire of hearing it. Though you are looking rather nice tonight yourself Mr. Allen."
Caitlin really began to suspect that Barry was up to something when desert arrived. She was about to take a bite of the strawberry cheese cake when she spotted something shiny on top of it. She used her fork to lift the diamond ring up. She looked at Barry who had knelt down on one knee next to her.
"Caitlin Danielle Snow will you make me the happiest man alive and agree to spend the rest of your life with me? Will you marry me?"
Caitlin felt tears slowly fall down her face. She nodded her head leaned down and kissed him.
"Yes Barry. Yes I will marry you."
Barry took the ring wiped it clean and slid it on to her finger. They could hear people near by clapping. They finished their desert and headed home. Once their Caitlin really looked at the ring. She could see that it was not one of the popular cuts of diamond but a little bit of an older cut and setting.
"This ring is really beautiful. It must have cost you a fortune." Said Caitlin
"Actually it didn't cost me anything. It was my mom's. My dad gave it to me and told me to give it to the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with."
"I will be sure to take very good care of it."
"I know you will. Tomorrow we can tell everyone that we are engaged."
"I have a feeling that my parents already know you were going to ask me."
"They do. I didn't go to them to ask for their permission. I asked for their blessing which they gave."
"I love you Barry."
"I love you Cait."
They headed for their bedroom and made love to celebrate their engagement.
