Chapter 36: Twisted

First day of school, and Sammy wasn't even stressed. Her chocolate colored curls hung wild and free, while the only makeup she donned was some mascara. Honestly, she emulated a ray of sunshine with the way she looked. She'd even dressed herself in a yellow tank top and her high waisted mom-jeans with rips on the knees. She rolled the ankles of her jeans to show off her white converse high-tops. They were all bright and new looking since she washed them with oxy clean and stain remover the day before.

When her phone buzzed with a text, she knew who it was without even looking. She grabbed her backpack and hurried down the hall, and down the stairs. She went to the kitchen to say goodbye to her dad.

"Sammy, you're leaving already?" her dad asked. "I thought you were riding with your brother?"

"She is supposed to be riding with me!" Stiles yelled out as he descended the stairs and skipped into the kitchen.

"Sorry, Aiden wanted to take me to school. I said I'd show him where the office is and help him and his brother find their lockers," she explained, reaching into the glass pastry display she had on the kitchen counter.

"But you always ride with me," Stiles pressed, but she pulled out a muffin and handed it to him.

"Here, it's a peace offering. It's a chocolate chip muffin, your favorite," Sammy said before her phone buzzed again. The boys were waiting.

"Come on, Sammy. It's tradition on the first day of school!"

"Yeah, well maybe get a girlfriend to take my place in the front seat?" she said, trying to provide a solution. But all it got was scoff from her brother and a laugh from her dad. Sammy quickly started putting her hair in a low bun, securing it with her white scrunchy while she backed out of the kitchen.

"He's already here?" her dad asked, and Sammy nodded.

"Don't worry, he's got a second helmet for me and everything," Sammy said, turning to walk out the front door.

"I love you! See you later, dad!" she called back before going through the front door. Both Ethan and Aiden were outside, waiting for her on their matching black M.V. Augusta F3s. She skipped down the path through her front yard, knowing full well that her father and Stiles had opened the front door and were watching her leave.

"What's up, little lady?" Ethan greeted, putting his fist up. She gave him a fist bump before approaching Aiden, who had removed his helmet. He was all smiles, and ready to receive his girlfriend.

"Hey there, cutie," she greeted him. Aiden took her by the hand and gave her a quick kiss in an attempt to spare her father from one of their usual excessive displays of affection.

"Hi there, princess, " he greeted back. Aiden handed her the spare helmet, and she put it on, tucking her bun inside so that her hair was safe from the wind. She looked back at her father and brother in the doorway and waved goodbye to them before climbing onto the back of Aiden's bike and hugging him tightly. Both twins simultaneously revved their engines and sped off down the street, leaving the Stilinski home far behind.

As the bikes rolled through the parking lot of Beacon Hills High School, all eyes were on the mysterious set of twins, and the familiar girl on the back of one's bike. Sammy climbed off the back of the bike as Aiden watched. She removed her helmet and handed it to him, triggering eyes and whispers all around her. Everyone was wondering about Sammy and the super hot, identical strangers she'd come back to school with. Aiden removed his helmet and watched his girlfriend take the bun out of her hair and set her wild curls free. Chocolate spirals spilled down her back as he reached out and grabbed her by the belt loops of her jeans. He pulled her in close, sealing their arrival to school with a kiss while everyone watched.

Sammy adjusted her backpack while Ethan and Aiden dismounted their bikes. Soon, she was entering the school with either twin by her side, and Aiden's hand holding her own. The staring wasn't restricted to the parking lot, as eyes still followed them through the hallowed halls of high school. The boys were in their motorcycle gear, looking like the coolest dynamic duo to ever set foot in Beacon. Stiles and Scott might've thought they were the coolest, or even Jackson and Danny prior to Jackson's departure, but to Sammy it was definitely Ethan and Aiden.

Before they could get to the school office to pick up the twins' schedules, she spotted Allison and Lydia, making this the perfect opportunity for introductions. Especially since Allison missed out of Sammy's birthday barbecue.

"Long time, no see, Ally-cat," Sammy greeted her friend, pulling her into a hug. Allison grinned and held Sammy tightly before the two girls separated.

"It feels like forever," Allison grinned.

"Four months seems like a long time, yeah," Sammy laughed. "Plus, you cut your hair! I love it."

"I was just telling her the same thing!" Lydia grinned, the three girls now reunited. "So, this is the famous twin I've been hearing about?"

"Yes, Lydia and Allison, this is Ethan," Sammy introduced, gesturing to her boyfriend's brother. Then her eyes fell on Allison. "Ally, this is Aiden. My boyfriend," she added. Allison and Lydia looked excitedly at their friend and at the twins. Obviously, the two boys were quite attractive, but since Aiden was with Sammy, and Ethan didn't play for the same team, all they could really do was look.

"It's nice to finally meet you," Lydia told Ethan.

"Likewise," Ethan smiled.

"So this is Allison," Aiden began, "I've heard a lot about you."

Allison's eyes widened, but Lydia nudged her and said, "Don't worry, she only shared the good stuff."

"Hey, so I gotta show them to their lockers, but I'll see you guys later," Sammy smiled. She and the boys wandered away, Aiden holding her hand once again.

Sammy was finishing up in the bathroom, washing her hands when she heard a loud crash, glass chattering. She grabbed her backpack up off the floor and ran towards it, only to find it to be Stiles's English class. He, Lydia, Allison, their classmates, and the new teacher all looked frazzled. Each of them were disheveled in varying degrees, and they were all surrounded by dead crows, shards of glass and black feathers strewn about the room. Sammy went straight for Stiles and Lydia.

"Hey, I heard the windows shatter. Are you guys okay?" Sammy asked. Lydia looked at a loss for words.

"The birds just...flew for the window. It was like the deer that hit Lydia's car-"

"A deer hit Lydia's car?" Sammy panicked.

"Yes, sorry, forgot to tell you. You were too busy getting on the back of a motorcycle instead of riding to school with me," Stiles chided her. "Something weird is going on with the animals around here. The birds just flew right through the glass and started attacking people. Even Lydia's dog bit her-"

"Prada bit you?" Sammy asked, less shocked that a dog bit her friend, more confused that Prada had the inclination to bite someone.

"Yeah, my ankle," Lydia pointed out, gesturing to the bandage. Sammy started pulling her phone out and dialing 911.

"Yeah, I'm calling dad," Sammy told them, as it seemed other kids were already trying to turn their phones back on.

"911, what's your emergency?" Sammy recognized the dispatcher immediately. Irena.

"There's been an accident at Beacon Hills High School. A bunch of crows flew through a window into a classroom and started attacking people. Everyone's pretty shocked, quite a few have scratches all over them."

"We're sending units to the school. Can you tell me your name?"

"Sammy Stilinski. I was walking by when I heard the panic. I'm sitting here with my older brother Stiles, who was in the room."

"Oh, hey, Sammy. I'll direct the call to your dad. He shouldn't be too far, he was over at the hospital."

"Cool. Thanks, Irena." She hung up and Stiles was staring at her.

"Why are you looking at her like that?" Lydia asked.

"Whenever I call the cops, they think I'm kidding," Stiles sighed, looking at his sister with jealousy.

"That's because they usually think you're full of shit. I'm not usually the one calling the cops. I'm also usually the one going by the station with Dad and delivering baked goods, casseroles, and lasagnas to Beacon Hill's finest."

"So what you're saying is, you're the precinct's golden girl, and Stiles is a joke to them?"

"Not so much as a joke, more like a boy who cried wolf-"

"That was one time!"

"It was not one time. Plus, they keep either finding you at crime scenes, or you just show up. It's just easier when I call," Sammy grinned.

"Screw you," Stiles snapped, stifling a grin.

"Love you too, brother," she smiled back at him, beaming her radiance upon the classroom.

"Sorry, can I ask who you are? You're not from my class," the teacher asked.

"Sammy Stilinski, Stiles's sister. I'm a sophomore. You are?"

"Ms. Blake. I'm the new English teacher," she introduced herself.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Blake. I called the police too, so you guys should be seeing our dad here soon."

"Your dad?"

"Yeah, our dad is the Sheriff. When I called 911, the dispatcher recognized me, so they're sending our dad," she explained.

"Good to know…" Ms. Blake drifted off. She turned and went to go sit on the edge of the teacher's desk. She looked like the longer she thought about what was happening, the more unreal it seemed.

"Anyway, are you guys alright?" Sammy asked Stiles and Lydia again.

"Yeah, we are now," Stiles answered.

"Hey, Sam, don't you have class?" Lydia asked.

"Yeah, but I was in the bathroom. Worst case scenario, they just think I'm taking a dump," she shrugged. Sammy earned a laugh from her brother and a slightly disgusted smirk from Lydia.

"But hey, you really shouldn't be missing class," Stiles told her.

"Says the guy who skips on the regular to go on werewolf shenanigans with Scott. Anyways, I'm gonna go wait in the hall for dad," she told them before turning her back and heading for the door. And to be honest, since it was his kids that made the call, it took no time at all for the Sheriff to arrive on the premises. Plus, this was a pretty solid reason to not be in a class that wasn't gonna teach her anything new so far.

"Sammy?" It was her dad. He and some of his deputies had just come up the steps and were now making their way down the hallway.

"Hey, dad!" she greeted him cheerfully, a full, toothy white smile on her face.

"You made the call?"

"I did, but it's Stiles's class. I was in the hallway on my way back from the bathroom when I heard the windows break and kids screaming," she told him.

"Alright, sweetie, thanks for calling the police. Now why don't you head back to class and I'll see you at dinner?"

"Yessir, love you dad," she told him with a smile, turning to head back in the direction of her classroom.

"Love you too, kiddo."

While Sammy was on her way back to her classroom, she slowed herself, knowing that if she paced it out properly, the less time she'd have left to sit through her teacher drone on about concepts she already understood better than her peers. Plus, she had one of the best excuses in the book for why she'd been gone for so long. Although, upon the sight of someone familiar, she realized she'd be held up longer than slow-walking would keep her.

"Samantha," Chris Argent greeted her. Though his tone was a bit lackluster. The expression on his face read that he didn't like her. Except that was only really unfortunate for him.

"Mr. Argent! How are you?" She greeted him kindly, doing her best to not come off as fake.

"Cut the crap, okay? I may have been gone for the summer, but I've seen the case file. I know what you did this summer."

"So Allison told you I got a new boyfriend? That's so cute of her to talk about," Sammy beamed, channeling her inner sunshiny personality.

"I know your condition only happened because of my father, but that doesn't mean I can turn a blind eye to your summer curriculars."

"Don't worry, I haven't done anything. Anyways, have a great day, Mr. Argent! I'm gonna get back to class now," she told him before moving to walk past him. Before she could evade the interaction, he grabbed her by her arm, keeping her there.

"You're gonna stay away from Allison. Just like Scott. Do you understand?"

"No. I don't understand how you can judge your daughter's friends based on a newfound disposition-"

"Even if it means Allison and I have to leave Beacon Hills for good, you're the thing she's been trained to kill, and you now fall under the jurisdiction of our code. You're not just a werewolf anymore. You're a killer."

"I'm not a killer, and you need to let go of me."

"I won't come after you, but you have to stay away from Allison, or else I will."

"I have to get back to class because guess what? I'm still a kid and I still have to go to school and I still have to get back to class. You should go see your daughter. She looked pretty shaken up," Sammy told him. Her tone was assertive as she yanked her arm out of his grasp.

"He grabbed you?!" Aiden panicked for a moment while Sammy told him what had happened with Allison's dad. They were chilling in an emptier part of the school hallway before she and the boys had the same study hall period.

"Baby, it's fine. Just because he's a hunter doesn't mean he's going to come after me. Plus, who's stupid enough to come after me while I have an alpha boyfriend and his twin brother?" She joked, trying to calm him down. Ethan was glancing around anxiously, scanning the hallways for something.

"You're right. He'd be pretty stupid to do that," Aiden grinned, squeezing her hand gently.

"What's going on? Ethan looks on edge," Sammy brought up.

"Nothing, just pack stuff."

"Really?"

"Yeah," Ethan answered this time. "It really is just pack stuff."

"Okay, don't tell me," Sammy shrugged. Both of their phones dinged, and she watched them both read their text, put their phones away, and start walking.

"Hey, baby, just hang tight, I'll see you in the library soon, I promise," Aiden told her as the two of them dipped off. Sammy wasn't really one to listen, clearly, so she waited until they were out of sight and began to track them through the school by scent. She wasn't just going to let herself get sidelined in yet another group, even if this group was a pack full of Alphas.

She followed them all the way down to the boy's locker room, where she was met with the combination of scents that were surprising for her to find on school property. It was all of them. Kali, Ennis, the twins, and Deucalian. They were all there for what was likely the unfamiliar scent among them. Someone injured, weaker than they should be.

Sammy watched as the twins went after the girl first. Surprisingly enough, the unfamiliar girl was holding her own while using a broken off broom handle as a weapon. But then Ennis moved in. He used his brute strength to trap her against a locker wall, roaring in her face. She slapped the side of the broom handle into his face, effectively shoving him off of her. Though, that only opened up a window for Ethan and Aiden to jump right back in.

The boys only made way for Kali, the woman revealing her sets of claws and kicking the unfamiliar female in the face, spraying blood across the locker room. The broom handle that she'd been armed with then clattered against the floor, rolling out of reach.

Sammy watched from around the corner as Deucalian cleaned off his hands of the blood that had been spattered on him. He took hold of his cane and donned his mirrored sunglasses. He subtly approached the stranger, the sound of his cane nearing began to set her on edge. The girl was panting, crumbled down against a locker with her own blood spattered on her face, and her hand clutching her injured side. Deucalian squatted down and knelt before the girl, getting closer to her level.

"Beautiful," he said, touching her lip. She pulled away. "But defiant, aren't you?"

"Because I know something, I know you're afraid of him."

"Of a teenage boy?"

"Of the man he'll become," she answered. Sammy wasn't following, but it didn't matter. Aiden looked back and saw her presence, making eye contact. His eyes widened, and Sammy just held still, pulling back slightly to hide more of herself behind the wall.

"I'm aware of a certain potential threat. Ah, but then someone once taught me a very smart way to eliminate a threat… get someone else to do it for you."

The girl began to breathe more heavily now. "Derek," she said.

Deucalian reached back, winding up his claws. With a growl and a forceful blow, he clawed the girl's face, further turning the locker room into a bloody mess. When he stood up from the girl's unconscious body, he turned, forcing Sammy to whip around the wall, removing herself from sight. But it didn't do her much good.

"I know you're there, sweetheart," he said. Her blood ran cold. "You can come out, now."

"I told her to go to the library, that I'd meet her there-"

"It's alright. Girls are curious creatures, especially ones like her. You do your best to remember that, Aiden," Deucalian said calmly as Sammy stepped into view, approaching the pack. "Besides, I knew she was there the second I caught her scent. She saw nothing that I didn't want her to see."

"I was tired of being in the dark. It's always been that way, but it wasn't a problem when I was a human. Now-"

"Now you don't even know what you are, but I'd like to help you find out. All you have to do is say yes."

"I want to know what's going on first."

"Aiden, why don't you take her to get some food? Catch her up on some things," Deucalian suggested. Her boyfriend looked nervous before nodding and moving to leave.

"Come on, Sammy. I'll get you a milkshake and everything," he told her. Sammy looked to Deucalian, worried about what he was about to tell her, but she also had faith. No one understood her as well as Aiden and his pack, and Deucalian understood his pack and her nature more than Derek ever could have. So, Sammy went with her boyfriend and followed him out of the locker room.

Aiden had brought Sammy to the woods. The two of them took their food and climbed a tree, sitting high in the branches, looking out over the ridge where the river flowed past them. She sipped on her Strawberry Shake while he handed her seasoned french fries, one by one, for her to snack on.

"So he collects Alphas?" Sammy asked.

"Yes, but he likes to collect unique ones. Kali with her style of fighting, Ennis with his sheer size and strength, Ethan and I because we can merge into a giant alpha...stuff like that."

"And to make sure I have this right, he's here to collect Derek because of a special ability that's passed down through the Hale Bloodline, and he heard Scott is some kind of special messiah wolf-"

"He's not a messiah. But according to our emissary-"

"Ms. Morrell."

"Scott is showing signs of becoming a true alpha-"

"Which is why that hunter chick said that she thinks Deucalion is afraid of Scott."

"Except he's not afraid of Scott. The threat that Scott poses is that the qualities of a true alpha will drive him to not want to join the pack. He won't allow himself to be collected. But Derek could solve the problem in one of two ways. He could convince Scott to join the pack with him, or he could kill him-"

"Over my dead body. Scott's basically a second brother, I'm not gonna let Derek kill him."

"Good to know, because now that Deucalion has discovered something new about you too, you can help us."

"Okay, that's fine. As long as no one kills Scott, we're good," she answered.

"Good, great, uh, but you have to see something first."

"What is it?"

The sun had finally gone down, and after some rather intentional sex in the woods...more than once...Aiden walked her back to the bike and the two of the headed off. When they finally made it to where they were supposed to go, the night sky had prevailed, only the moon illuminating the building he'd taken her to. It was the Beacon Hills First National Bank, and inside was the rest of the Alpha pack. None of them said anything, they just watched as Aiden walked her over to the bank vault door and opened it up. She wasn't sure what she'd expect, but she certainly didn't expect to see Boyd, Erica, and yet another unfamiliar girl, all tied up on the floor of the vault. But Sammy didn't move. She was frozen in place.

A warm hand rested on her shoulder. "You see, we have Derek's pack. All we need is for him to join us," Deucalion explained to her, his tone of voice strangely putting her at ease.

"So they're stuck between being leveraged and him having to kill them to join you," Sammy answered. She didn't know how to feel. She knew she should save them, rescue Erica, Boyd, and the other girl. Except her entire body was screaming at her to do exactly as she was told. All she needed was for Deucalion to tell her what she needed to do now.

"Yes, but he doesn't have to kill all of them. I want to sacrifice one to your cause," Deucalion explained. "I want you to kill one. I need to see the change for myself. So we're going to cut one loose for you to hunt and kill."

"I…" Sammy didn't know what to say.

"This is my offer. You'll get to stay with us, where you belong. You'll get to be with Aiden, and soon we'll have Scott join us, and Derek won't have to kill him. The only thing you have to do is bring out your true nature, as betas do not belong in our pack," Deucalion said.

Sammy looked back at Aiden, only to see that Ennis was holding him back, gripping his shoulder tightly. Aiden was concerned, but that only made her decision easier to make.

"Pick one," Sammy whispered. She could almost feel Deucalion's smile from behind her.

"Kali, let the blonde one go," Deucalion ordered. Erica began to panic, tears welling in her eyes as she felt the betrayal from Sammy. They'd been friends once, but now Kali was cutting her loose.

"No! Kill me instead!" Boyd yelled.

"Please! Don't do this!" Erica pleaded as Kali dragged her out of the vault and dragged her out. Erica was forced to stand before Sammy.

Panic filled Erica's eyes. "Sammy, you don't have to kill me. Just call Derek. Tell him where we are," she pleaded.

Sammy felt like her heart stopped as her eyes glowed blue, but slowly transitioned to green.

"What the…" Erica said, confused.

Sammy's claws extended as a low growl began to push past her lips. "Run."
