Remember What Shinso Said?
DISCLAIMER: Kōhei Horikoshi owns the world/characters of BNHA, not me.
NOTE: This is a collection story for Boku no Hero Academia that really doesn't have enough content to be separate on its own, or just random things that come to mind. Ya know, similar to my other collection fics in the Harry Potter, Bleach, Touhou Project, and Naruto categories? Old fans of my works pre-BNHA would remember those stories well. Well, trying to do the same for BNHA. As always, if you got a request for a prompt, leave it in a review or a PM. The version is safely listed under the "Mature" rating, while the AO3 version is listed under the "Not Rated" rating. Some of the more mature chapters in the FFN version are "censored" while AO3 will contain the "uncensored" version. Hope this clears things up with my readers.
So, there's this angst-heavy sad story called "like an adult" by Shadowtravelingtitans over at AO3. My brain wouldn't shut up about this story so I wrote something of an unofficial fan-inspired sequel. I wanted to get the angst and the sad out of me. Please check that story out when you get the chance and give the author some love.
It has been a month since the incident where Izuku had been extremely hurt by what was said about him in the public of his former high school classmates/friends by the man who he had an unrequited love for, Hitoshi Shinso. A man who was currently in a relationship with Denki Kaminari. Yes, he was jealous, and he hated that he wasn't the one who Hitoshi was in love with. He made it perfectly clear that he wasn't someone he'd love because of his former habits.
Not only did he get his shit together, he started talking to his friends less, and only interacted with them when and if they bump into each other during Hero-related work. Outside Hero-related work, he avoided them and made excuses as to why he couldn't show up at a bar or a club or just hang out like old times back in high school. All the words that Hitoshi had said about him, and the laughter that everyone let out would constantly haunt him until they slowly became twisted and resembled the cruelty of his childhood.
But tonight, he finally decided he would show up for the get-together at Katsuki and Eijiro's home again, but it was for the last time.
He grew tired of everything.
He was an absolute mess.
And it was when the prepared meal was ready to be served, Izuku stood up from his chair, but he didn't follow anyone into the dining room.
"Everyone, before we eat… I need to say something," said Izuku.
Thankfully it worked and it got everyone's attention.
"Yeah, Deku? Hurry and spill it, already," said Katsuki, his usual soft glare thrown at him.
"Do you all remember what Shinso said to me last time we were together? He said, 'Face it Midoriya, you're a bit of a mess. When it comes to acting like an adult, you kinda suck at it.' And then all of you laughed about it."
The fact that everyone was now looking at him more intently, some with looks of concern, made Izuku feel certain they were now fully paying attention.
"When I got home that night… you were right. All of you were right. I'm a mess. I'm a failure. And since I'm a failure, that means a failure can't remain as a Pro Hero."
He takes out his Hero License and tossed it onto the coffee table, before he turned around.
"You all really hurt me that night, laughing and agreeing with Shinso. It reminded me of my childhood being bullied right up to junior high school." Katsuki got tense hearing this, as he remembers how he used to be one of Izuku's main tormentors growing up. "So I got my shit together, and cleaned everything and got rid of the garbage I didn't need anymore."
Ochako was extremely worried. She knew that Izuku was a sensitive person, but she had no idea that it was really hurting him. It actually made her feel like a shitty best friend.
"Deku, please, we're sorry about back then-"
"No, you're not. None of you are," Izuku cuts Ochako off. "Because soon I failed to keep myself not a mess again. I became a fucking failure again. I became a shitshow again."
His head turned so he could look at Hitoshi.
"And to think that I was in love with you ever since our first meet at the Sports Festival."
Hitoshi's eyes widen in shock, as does Denki's eyes. In fact, everyone of Hell Class A were shocked by this revelation. He walks to the door, grabbing his coat off the hanger.
"So enjoy having him, Kaminari. Enjoy being the person he doesn't call a failure of an adult and a shitshow. And congratulations, Kacchan. Enjoy being the new Number One Pro Hero. Because I quit."
They all called out to him in distress, but Izuku slams the door hard on his exit. He hurried to his car, where he gets in and shuts the door, and locks it. He hears thumping on the glass window and briefly looks to see Ochako as well as Momo, Shoto, Eijiro, and Mina behind her. The others were gathering outside as well. Ochako was crying, begging him not to leave, and apologizing to him for not being a supportive friend. They all were shouting apologies at him. But Izuku merely starts the ignition to his car, puts it in drive and he pulls away from Katsuki's and Eijiro's home, leaving everybody behind. As he drove, the tears silently ran down his face.
He would not return to his apartment. Because in the trunk of the car was one suitcase with the basic essentials and his passport. Instead of his apartment, he drove all the way to Tokyo International Airport from Musutafu. Before officially arriving to the airport, he pulled into a nearby parking lot and walked the rest of the distance to the airport. He ignored the few who recognized him as Deku ("I'm not Deku the Pro Hero, anymore."), got his ticket to a one-way trip to America, got his bag safely check-in, and once his flight was scheduled to leave he got on board. The plane will taxi down the runway and took off into the air.
As Izuku Midoriya left Japan, back inside his now abandoned car, his phone he left behind started ringing again.
The Caller ID registered the incoming call from Hitoshi Shinso.
Ring, ring, ring…
Ring, ring, ring…
Ring, ring, ring…
Ring, ring, ring…
Ring, ring, ring…
… The phone stops ringing.
This was inspired by "like an adult" by "Shadowtravelingtitans" on AO3.
My mind can be super creative at times.
