Eyes To the Moon

It's late. Nearing almost eleven p.m. and he knows she is probably deep into her slumber at this hour, but he's still here. Pushing the key through the slot and entering the house and quickly silencing the alarm. It's cold and there's a light on in foyer, it stays on all night so it's not unusual.

He walks through the house and up the stairs in the direction of her bedroom, and with each step her can hear the squishing sound that his shoes make from the wet ground outside. Twisting the doorknob, the corners of his mouth lifts when he sees her sleeping with her laptop open to the side of her. He removes his coat and shoes before climbing onto the bed and putting the computer on the nightstand.

In no way did he want to startle her, so he began by placing a small kiss just below the mole a few centimeters underneath her earlobe but wasn't enough to wake her, so he took one to her cheek. It caused her to squirm just a little and the last one to her lips. He held it there for a minute before he can feel her smile against his lips and lazily slips her arms around his neck.

"Oh no, there's a stranger in my bed." Her voice is raspy and full of sleep and her eyes are still shut.

"hmm then I think you should probably call for help." He whispers.

She lets out a soft laugh before her eyes flutter open. She takes a minute for them to adjust as her palm grazes the side of his face. "Hi m'love."

Taking her chin between his thumb and index, he only responds by placing his lips on hers. It's only sweet and not rushed at all. Nothing that tries to start something, it's simple and the gesture makes her heart skip beat after beat. The only reason to pull away is the need for oxygen.

"Hi."

"...I just got off the phone with you like... two hours ago." She said lowly. "I thought you and Ripley were at Crystal Mountains with Trav and everybody."

"and I thought you weren't landing until tomorrow so after we talked, I took the next flight out, went home and came here." The obvious grin that grew on her face was undeniable as she felt him move the loose curls from her face.

"I just know they gave you hell for that." She said and he nodded his head laughing. "mmm...Did Jack say something along the lines of 'man you'll never keep a girl as long as you keep treating Herrera as one.'" She tries to mock his voice but failed miserably, the point still stood. Dropping his head into her neck, he let out an audible laugh as did she. "Was I spot on?" She asks after he lifts his head back up.

"Nail on the head." He confirmed as their laughter faded out. He took notice of her eyelids hovering over her pupils and kissed her. "Andy..."

They opened a little wider. "Hm?" She mumbled tiredly.

"Wake up for me..."

"...I'm not asleep... just enjoying the attentiveness that I've been deprived of for days." She said running her fingers on the nape of his neck. "I missed you a lot this weekend..."

Being pitch dark in the room and the only light being the glow from the moon shining in from the window, it was difficult to see anything besides her face, it was directly in the path of the moon, the half-moon... one-fourths of a moon whatever it was. His weight partially leans onto when he relaxes his muscles. There was no discomfort whatsoever. "How was California? Stanford?" He was all ears, prepared to hear about her trip.

"Very tiring." She starts as her hand never leaves his neck and his grazing her side. "As you know... my ma came this time, So it was me and her and she wanted to ask so many question about everything and it was just exhausting. I also got the key to the on-campus apartment that I'll be renting." She paused for second to see if she was leaving anything out. "I'm considering a roommate... well allow me to rephrase that... my mother is considering a roommate...lets see... I met a few people which was quite painful. And while I was there... I finished up two projects and when I came home, I was trying to finish another one but... well, you see how that went." She gestured at the computer on her nightstand and turned back to him.

She returned to his face as it held a blank stare. "So a good trip for you?"

"A great trip for me." She giggled.

"and your therapist... did you get a chance to speak with her?" He asked and that is when a silence fell upon them and the smile that she once held was now gone but it was just for a split second before it returned. Vibrant... and not real.

"How was the mountains?" She asks while holding his face between her palms, she leans up and tries to place her lips on his only to be met with air.

"Andy."

She lets her head fall back onto the pillow turns her head. "We're... not talking about it..." And she tries again, only for him to move his face.

"Andr-."

"Sul..." She rolls her eyes and sighs deeply. "I'm tired." She shrugs her shoulders.

She knows he doesn't believe whatever excuse she tries to give to divert the subject but dropping it is something that they do, not forcing the conversation...the unspoken rule, but as dark as it is in the room, she can still see the worry coating his face.

"Andy, I saw the way your fac-." He doesn't get to finish his sentence before she attempts to gently push him off of her and turn over, but he stops her by holding her waist. "Okay...okay... stop" He says. "But... you're okay?" Her face was still to the side, gazing at the low opacity clouds that just barely covered the moon. "Andy..." His voice is lower... softer when he brought her face back to his direct with his finger. "You'd tell me if something was wrong?"

There was a slight scoff that escape her throat and she wanted to remove his hand from her face. Irony... it was ironic for him of all people to ask that question, but it was weeks ago and she hates that she even gave a reaction to what he just said... she was over it... yea.

But she should know better than to make one peep come from her mouth that would symbolize... literally anything he'd oick up on it. He knows her... and as soon as his head dropped and raise, she knew that he was about to start... because she knows him.

"I'm over it..." She says before he can even say anything.

A small-disgruntled laugh and a nod to his head. "I can tell by the way you won't look at me that you're clearly over it."

"I am though. We've been through this, we've talked about it. It's in the past it was weeks ago and I'm fine. You're fine and... we're fine." She says giving him a gentle smile. "And to answer your question... yes, I would tell you if I something was wrong... it's what you do when you're this close with someone." She mumbled the last part, and in her head, she can admit to herself that it sounded as if she wasn't completely over it, but... she was... yea.

She tries again to turn over to her side, but once again failed. Another silence fell upon them... and it lasted a while. The only thing to hear is the trees outside moving in the direction of the wind that howls. He spent the entire quiet fifteen minutes tracing his eyes along every feature of her face. The beauty amazes him each time he lays eyes her, each time her vocal plays the cords of each word that she says.

And he's studying her. Something he is quite good at, if her nose were to wrinkle or her teeth came to chew on her bottle lip, he'd be aware that something was bothering her. But this time... it was only just a blank stare to the outside of the window with her eyes pierced to the moon once again. So naturally... so easily the words left his mouth... someone would think it was out of habit, it's not.

"I love you." There's grace in knowing what someone needs to hear. And there is a certain feeling of euphoria that can be overwhelming and at the same time... not erotic at all, and when it's said at the exact time that you need to hear it... you're floating.

As soon as those words filled her ears, her eyes closed... and a deep breath that she did not let out until she looked to him. "And I'll say it as many times as you need to hear it..." He spoke softly looking right through the lens of her eyes. "...I'm so...sorry."

"I know..."She whispered, giving him a weak smile. It takes him a moment, but he kisses just at her cheekbone and trails them to her lips before she puts it to a halt. "but I am tired though... and I have school in the morning." She says softly. the entire conversation was soft... like if they were to speak an octave louder, someone would hear them.

"I know." Brushing his lips against hers one last time, he raises up and goes to her closet tossing his sweatpants into it. When he comes back, about to climb into the bed, she notices him still clad in his shirt and it's unusual for him.

"Sully, you can take the shirt off... I'm not gonna cry when I see them..."

"It's okay... I'm cold anyway..." She knew it was a lie. He can sleep with nothing covering his body in forty-degree weather, he doesn't get cold easily. She gives him a look that makes him hesitantly, but eventually toss it to the chair beside the bed. And there the look was on her face as soon as she stole a quick glance at both of them, and she can't lie like she doesn't feel a sting to her chest each time she looks at them, and he can't lie like he doesn't feel them hurting her.

He brought back the blanket, crawling under it as she turned to her side. Filling the spot right behind her like the perfect fit to a puzzle, his arm wrapped tightly around her body and when she takes it and rests her head on the back of his hand, she's okay. Everything will be okay... she'll be okay. She can't help but continue to look through the glass... direct sight to it... the halo. The stars that surround it... were just a bonus. Craters...the craters that are there but no one really talks about those... most people just talk about the light that luminates from it... but it doesn't shine without the suns help. It goes through phases...

"The moon..." She whispers. If he hears her then he hears her, but if he doesn't... she knows her answer. Seconds go by and she assumes he is asleep and she feels a relief when he doesn't say anything.

"The moon..." He says, pressing a kiss to her shoulder and pulling her inevitably closer. Her breath hitches when she hears him speak... she's hesitant now.

It takes her a minute before she can gather the courage to speak again.

"We..." She clears her throat before continuing. "We talked about the moon." She's not lying... they did but he's confused. Way past confused, so instead of speaking he allowed her to continue. "Have you ever heard of Arthur C. Clarke?"

His head shook on her should. "I haven't"

"'The Moon is the first milestone on the road to the stars" She said and her eyes concentrated on it. "he said that. Do you know what it means?" She asks softly.

"Tell me."

"What does the moon symbolize to you?" She asks.

"Neil Armstrong."

"Robert..." she giggles but he's serious.

She sighs deeply and squeezed his hand. "Well... To me... it means a lot of things. It could mean a cliché like...'don't give up' or "you're a big star in a galaxy of little stars" something like that but..." Her eyes drift away from a second, she connects all the stars like a game of connect the dots. "but to me... the moon symbolizes... idk... a mystery." She shrugs her shoulders and interlaces their fingers together as she lays on them.

"Baby, you gotta stop watching teen wolf..." He jokes and she gently elbows his stomach as she lets out a light giggle.

"Hush, I'm being serious." She allows her smile to fade away and thinks again.

"and I'm listening."

"Sometimes... I can say that it symbolizes growth and a lot of stuff like that." Her eyes cut away from it, now at the wall. "Dr. Mohammed... she said that it could symbolize femininity..."

Closing her eyes... she could feel her heartbeat increase. Their interlaced fingered were undone by her and she takes a minute. "Andy..." He raises up a bit when she becomes quiet.

"The crescent moon... the one right out there... look at it." She said and he looks out of the window... staring at it as did she.

"Regeneration... that's what it symbolizes... ferti-." She swallows deeply even though it is hard, her throat is beyond dry. She could continue but the lump that is forming in her throat said no. A single tear falling down to meet the back of his hand, but she moves it quickly... he doesn't feel it.

It was a talk about the moon... that's it. She quickly wipes it away and turns to face him...

"And-" She cuts him off with a kiss to his lips and holds it there.

"I'm okay... I missed you."

"T-.."

"I love you... that's all."
