AN: Hi! Let me know how you like this Jeremy vs The TA Jeremy in a review :D
It was Friday afternoon, and Aura parked in Jeremy's driveway. Tegan and Sara were back to work, giving her the opportunity to talk to Jeremy alone. After more talking, a few tears, and thankfully no vomit, it was decided that Aura would go ahead with talking to him today while they were working. If nothing else, they wanted to know if anyone else knew, if they were that obvious to those close to them. With it being Jeremy, they told her that she could tell him anything once she confirmed he really did know. Although Aura protested, offering to only share pieces they were comfortable with, the sisters didn't feel it was right to put more on her than they already had; they felt that, at this point, it was now her story, too.
"So," Jeremy said. They were sitting on his couch, quietly awkward.
"I, uh, I need you to tell me what you meant," Aura tried to find her wording. "At the party. What do you know? What was Sara?"
"Oh, um," his eyes went wide, not expecting the forwardness. "I don't know if... Like, if I'm talking out of my ass, then this could go really wrong really fast."
"Yeah, I get that," she said. "Let's just say, uh, from what you said before, let's say that I don't think it's very likely that you're talking out of your ass. But I have to ask you first, because, um, if I misunderstood..."
"Right," Jeremy nodded. "Um, I think that, or, I don't think that, uh, you gave Tegan the hickey."
"And who do you think did?" Aura asked. She needed him to explicitly say it.
"I think, uh, I think that...," he tried, looking everywhere but at Aura. "I think Sara did."
"Okay then," she nodded to herself. "Well, you're right."
"Holy shit," Jeremy gaped at her. "I... holy shit."
"Ha! Yeah. Same," Aura gave a small grin, trying to lighten the mood. "Just so you know, they said I could answer any questions you have, like, if I have the answer. I definitely don't know everything. But I do have questions for you, too. Do you want to go first? I feel like you're seconds from exploding."
"So many questions," he said, coated in shock. "How long have you known?"
"Since Saturday," she said, amused at the whole situation for a moment.
"What? How...? Did you...? You're still here. Are you okay?" Jeremy stumbled over his words as he stumbled over his thoughts.
"Yeah," she sighed heavily. "It's been a hell of a week. Lots of talking about feelings and processing. Very lesbian."
Jeremy snorted and laughed, surprised again by how blunt Aura was being.
"Um, how did you find out?" he asked once his laughter had died down.
"Walked in on them kissing," Aura stated. "There was a little yelling at first, but mostly crying, like, all week. Lots of crying. We were passing a fucking sob baton. Sara puked."
"Fuck," Jeremy shook his head, staring off as he took in the information. "I guess that's better than, like, walking in on them...you know."
"True, but that couldn't have happened," she corrected. "They've just, um, like, barely even made out. Well, ha, I will say that I have not gotten details about the hickey, but I know they still haven't had sex."
"How..." he just blinked at her a few times, disbelief pouring from his eyes. "They give you details?"
"Sara, no. But Tegan. I mean, you've met her. Her brain won't function unless she's speaking every thought to someone," Aura laughed a bit and Jeremy joined her.
"Okay, yeah. That's definitely Tegan. I'm just surprised it's about sex. She hates acknowledging to anyone that she has sex," he shook his head slightly as he chuckled.
"I fucking know, and it includes her girlfriend. It's like pulling teeth," Aura groaned with a smirk. She was going to like Jeremy. "But also, they haven't, so maybe the mental block or whatever isn't there yet."
"Yet?" Jeremy cocked an eyebrow.
"I don't know, dude," she shrugged. "I'm not psychic."
"How, uh, how are you and Tegan?" he asked hesitantly.
"We're good. Lovey dovey. All that sappy shit," Aura said with a smile full of warmth and contentment, mismatching her words. Jeremy's confusion had her continue. "Like I said, lots of talking and crying. But yeah, we're good."
"That's good," he bit his lip, nodding. "I want to keep you around a while. You're good for her."
"Yeah?" She slightly blushed and spoke quieter.
"She's different with you," he said with sincerity. "Tee was always the kind to be head over heels fast, so like, saw that one coming, sorry," he chuckled. "But she always stayed in that, like...bubbly, happy, peppy place...until she wasn't. Then it was over. Since she met you, she's like...content. Like she finally feels settled inside. Secure and safe."
"Oh," Aura breathed and looked at her lap as the blush took over and the edges of her lips twitched up. "Yeah. She makes me feel like that, too."
"Aw, look at you all in love," Jeremy teased, giving her a gentle push on the shoulder. "But really, I'm glad you two worked it out around...all this."
"Yeah, me too," Aura agreed.
"Oh! You said you have questions for me?" he recalled.
"Yeah, two main ones. From Sara and Tegan, but I'd like to know, too. First, how did you know? Did you catch them? Were they really obvious one day?" she asked.
"D: none of the above," he joked. "It was more of...an assessment? Over almost two decades. I've spent so much time with them over so many years, I highly doubt anyone could have come to any similar conclusion. Well...except maybe Emy. I've never talked to her about anything like this, even hinted. But if anyone else knows, it's her and only her."
"And that's the second question, ha. Do you know if anyone else knows? So, I guess that answers that," Aura said.
"Fuck," Jeremy's face dropped as the word came out of his mouth. "Did they... Do you... Have any of you talked about their parents? Like, not that they would know or suspect, but like...how Sara and Tegan...feel?"
"Ooh noo," she shook her head. "And I am not going to be the one to start that conversation," she laughed. "But they seemed fine at the party, and the hickey was definitely from Tuesday night. So, whatever they do in their heads, they seem somewhat okay about it. Even if it's just fake okay."
"It happened the night before?" he asked a bit loudly from shock. "Where were you?"
"I had gone to bed. There was tequila involved, which is probably why the hickey happened," Aura said, amused with Jeremy's outburst.
"They... while you were there?" he shook his head.
"No no no, not like that. I just went to bed to give them some alone time," she clarified, then giggled at Jeremy's expression. "Who do you think bought them the tequila?"
"What the fuck?" Jeremy's face matched his words. "What... Like... What?"
"They have so much...pain," Aura sighed. "I just want them to be happy and stop hurting, however any of this plays out. Whatever they do or don't do, that's up to them. They just hurt so much. That's why I came here. I'd die with their secret if that's how it worked out, but having someone like you helping, loving, supporting... They need all that they can get."
"I wholeheartedly and entirely agree," he said, then paused. "...But how does that lead to feeding them tequila for 'alone time'?"
"I guess I was hoping they'd feel better about anything that happened," she shrugged. "We all had a few beers a couple days before that, and they accidentally kissed right there in front of me." Jeremy's jaw was nearing the floor. "Tegan was drunk and thought she was kissing me. I think. But I like, kissed her goodnight and told them to stay up if they wanted. Apparently, they made out, but the next day... they were fine. Confused about being fine, but they were fine. Also apparently, that's the first time they felt fine. Really, I have no fucking clue what I'm doing. I'm just making it up as I go along."
"I think your life is my new favorite soap opera," he joked once he picked up his jaw.
"Ha! Could you tell me what happens on the next episode? Even a sneak peek? This is a whole lot for one week," Aura laughed.
"I could not do that. Share like that," Jeremy shook his head again.
"Yeah, and like, I wouldn't with literally anyone else." Aura bit her lip. "If Tegan was polyamorous and wanted, like, four girlfriends... I love her so much, but I don't know if... I think that would break me. But at the same time, she and Sara, it just...makes sense, I guess."
"You do know that what you're doing literally is polyamory, right? It might be a more unique flavor, but that's what it is," he confirmed.
"Yes, I know it is, but it's still very different. Like, they don't want to be alone together. Tegan and I want Sara to find someone, and she's happy for us," Aura explained. "There's just this, like, asterisk."
"That sounds like compersion. The 'happy for each other' thing in a polyam relationship. It's considered the opposite of jealousy," he said.
"Fuck, there's a fucking word for it?" she was stunned. "Fucking perfect. Yes, that. That's how I feel, and from what they've said, that's how they feel, too. Fuck."
"That was a lot of 'fucking'," Jeremy laughed.
"Yes, like any good day," Aura quipped.
Jeremy and Aura chatted a while longer, but then she had to head back to the apartment. Neither of them wanted to imagine the panic attacks from the twins if they had to wait even a minute extra for updates from Aura. She was reading on the couch when they walked in, immediately bombarding her with tons of questions at the same time.
"Whoa, hold on, chill out," she lifted her hands after putting the book down. "First, everything is fine. Breathe. Nothing has exploded and nothing will."
Still flustered, the twins sat down, Sara on the coffee table and Tegan next to Aura on the couch. She gave them a rundown of what Jeremy said and asked, leaving out his question about their parents; she was set on not being the first to bring that up. After talking for a short while, Sara decided to go spend the weekend at Jeremy's; not only did she want to talk to him alone, but it would give Tegan and Aura some time together, since they had barely a few hours the whole week. Confirming she was sure in her plan, they saw her off when her cab arrived.
"So. Compersion, eh?" Tegan sat with her arm on the back of the couch, facing Aura.
"Yeah," Aura smiled. "That's how I feel about you two. I told Jeremy I think that's how you two feel about each other, like, your relationships. Do you though?"
"Of course. We might want to strangle each other sometimes, but we do actually want each other to be happy," Tegan laughed.
"I mean, like... Compersion is about romantic partners, not, like, general friends and family," Aura said. "Are you two...not romantic?"
Tegan sighed and flopped her head on the back of the couch, groaning, "No, it's not those kinds of feelings. We don't even know how to put it into words. Believe me, we've tried. But if I promise to talk your face off on Skype once you're not physically in front of me, can we drop it so I can kiss your face off now while you are here?"
Without another word, Aura straddled Tegan, and their clothes found the floor.
