The group made a swift return to the academy to get Allison the medical attention she needed. Amber was still disturbed by how the cut didn't seem to come from a weapon at all, but it was more like air slashed her throat. Five was stopping the bleeding with his hands as Grace looked over her.
"There is a severe laceration to the larynx and she needs blood." Grace informed everyone.
"I'll do it." Klaus, Five, and Diego offered.
"No, I'll do it." Luther affirmed.
Amber glanced over Luther's body and shook her head. There's no way his blood isn't compromised and sure enough, Pogo interrupted,
"I'm afraid not Master Luther. Your blood is more comparable to mine."
"Then just stick the needle in me then, come on." Klaus said, getting his arm ready and tapping it.
"Your blood is much too polluted Klaus." Pogo informed him.
Drugs Amber thought. Amber and Five looked to one another and they were a no go either. Despite Amber's clean bill of health despite temporal fuck ups, she and Five didn't want to risk their blood causing complications. Amber still found it sweet that all of Allison's brothers would offer their blood for her and wondered if they would have done the same to Vanya. Diego stepped up and he knew he had to be the one to give his blood.
"I'll do it." Diego offered.
There were no complaints as Grace got the needle. The moment Diego saw the needle, he passed out which Amber couldn't help but scoff at.
"He throws knives and yet needles do him in." Amber joked.
"Stick him." Pogo ordered Grace.
Grace collected the blood she needed as she went to performing surgery on Allison. Everyone watched as Grace was able to stop the bleeding and sew up Allison's throat. The damage that was made would leave Allison unable to speak for some time and Amber wouldn't be able to get her answers just yet. Amber couldn't be too sure, but she had a sinking feeling Harold Jenkins could not have done this to Allison. She was too skilled for him to get close to, even if he did murder his father. The cleanness of the wound startled Amber most of all since most if not all weapons leave signature marks, yet again Allison appeared to be slashed by air itself. The concerns were eating up Amber inside.
Once Allison's surgery was done, Luther decided to stay at her side while Klaus, Diego, and Five went to the living room to plan. Amber looked to Luther and sighed.
"Don't blame yourself for this Luther. You couldn't have known Allison would have gone after him, but maybe you should since that is just who Allison is when it comes to family. Please learn from your transgressions Luther, be there for her, and be the man that's better than what Hargreaves was." Amber lectured.
"And what could you know about Allison or about the actions you've taken. You've never done anything without Five at your side and you don't know us Amber. No matter what the others say, you're not part of this family."
Amber felt gutted by that statement but she honestly shouldn't have cared. Luther was clearly angry at himself and his father, but to displace his anger on her was uncalled for. She was trying to help and had been risking her life for his ungrateful ass because he is Five's brother. Amber didn't need his approval and the others were warming up to her just fine.
"I am now Luther, like it or not. I wouldn't have done all this if I didn't care about you all. You know what, forget I even tried to care about you. Just watch over Allison and don't do anything stupid while I'm gone asshole."
Amber left Luther to watch Allison while she joined the rest of the guys. They were discussing what to do next and Amber was dead set on one action, which Diego shared as well.
"The bastard that nearly killed our sister is still out there with Vanya. We need to find him Five." Diego suggested.
Whether the bastard did it or not didn't matter to Amber and more like finding Vanya was important. All the little pieces of evidence and intel she was collecting was pointing to Vanya having an untapped, untrained, highly emotionally tied power that can cause serious harm, perhaps on world destructive levels.
"I agree with Diego. Vanya is our main priority, like it or not. If she is still with Jenkins, I don't want him anywhere near her." Amber pushed.
Five sighed.
"We need to stop the end of the world..."
"Which we can do if we find Vanya as well. I don't see Jenkins wanting to lose Vanya, whether as a tool to lure us to him or..."
Amber's voice trailed off since she couldn't bring it to say 'Use Vanya to end the world' since Vanya was their sweet innocent sister.
Diego and Five noticed Amber's stalling and Five had an idea as to why.
"You're still thinking Vanya has powers, do you?" Five asked.
"What now?" Diego asked.
Amber sighed and nodded.
"Diego, you've seen knife and weapon wounds, right? Didn't Allison's look a bit too clean to be done with a weapon? Whatever Vanya has, she's very strong and untrained."
Diego shook his head and scoffed.
"You're not saying sweet innocent Vanya would hurt our sister. She has no powers, always was the case. Dad kept her away from us because of it. Would I have liked it if she was like us and not left out, yes but you can't honestly tell me without a doubt Vanya did that horror to Allison."
Amber bit her lip since this was exactly what she didn't want to happen. Diego and her were just starting to get a bit on good terms yet she was burning bridges with that statement.
"You're right, I do need more proof before I can even make such a claim. Since they are not at the cabin, let's head back to Jenkins's house to see if he and Vanya retreated there." Amber retracted.
Diego agreed with her on that and looked to Klaus.
"You're coming with us Klaus." Diego ordered.
"Nah you all go ahead. My powers are useless and I will only hold you back." Klaus told them.
"Allison was found near death Klaus. You of all people I thought would want to help her by finding Jenkins. She's always sweet to you." Amber insisted.
"Look you know I'm not the superhero type. Allison understood not everyone is suited to be a hero and she will understand if I waited here until she wakes up. You all do what you need to do." Klaus defended.
Diego looked to Amber and she simply nodded. He got out a knife and threw it just below Klaus' groin area and hit the couch he was sitting on. Klaus jumped up from his seat and commented,
"Well, I can use the exercise."
The car ride from the academy to Jenkins' house was quiet. Klaus was even cracking any jokes which made the air even more tense. When they finally got to the house, they saw Jenkins was on the floor...dead. His body was covered in blood and stabbed with multiple blunt objects. Amber studied the house and a lot of the books and items on the shelves were scattered across the house. She slid on some gloves from her purse so as to not leave a trace when she decided to look around his house again. Five noticed Jenkins had a bandage over his eye and his eyes widened. Shakily, he got out the glass eye and inserted it into Jenkins' empty eye socket.
"Same color, same pupil size... This eye I've been carrying for decades has found its rightful home." Five gleefully informed. "
"Good we found the guy that stops the apocalypse." Diego adds.
"Yay! Let's go." Klaus tells them.
"I don't think so." Amber mutters as she looks through the books on the floor.
"No no wait. It can't be this easy. The note..."
"Well mon coeur we intervened and you stalled Hazel and Cha Cha. Maybe the note became outdated with the pieces we moved. However, I'm more worried about Vanya."
Five was honestly getting a bit annoyed with his wife bringing up Vanya and he snapped,
"We need to figure out who did this! Who killed him?" Five suggested.
"Well two of three players are dead or wounded, with one missing. Common sense tells me Vanya." Amber expressed.
"Yeah right, Vanya would never hurt anyone. She would cry when we killed ants as children. But hey, I have a crazy idea. Why don't we just find Vanya and ask what happened." Klaus told her.
"Vanya wouldn't have it in her and it would be a waste of time to find her. I need to figure things out..."
"Five don't you dare go off on your own." Amber warned.
Five blipped out of the house and she stomped her foot in anger, scorching the floor below her floor.
"Dammit Five! " Amber exclaimed as she started to look through the house.
"If Vanya got away from this asshole, she might be headed back to the academy. You can ask all you want when she returns." Diego offers.
Amber knew she couldn't leave yet. Something had to have triggered her to do what she did. She understood how Allison could trigger Vanya, but what did Jenkins do to her in order for her to snap at him. There had to be something.
"You both go on ahead, there's something I need to find here. Tell Five I'm toasting his butt for ditching me here since he's not listening to a word I'm saying now." Amber told them.
Diego was curious since Amber was being stubborn and was looking through the books on the floor with gloved hands.
"What's on your mind Amber?" he asked.
"A hunch, just need proof."
"Proof of what Amber?"
Amber ignored Diego and recalled something that Klaus had exclaimed days earlier while in the dumpster and Pogo's words. Pogo was missing a book and Klaus was looking for 'priceless crap' that came from a priceless box. Those two things had to be linked or one in the same. She looked to Klaus and asked,
"What priceless crap did you throw out a couple days ago Klaus?"
Klaus groaned and rubbed his head.
"I don't really remember Amber..."
Amber couldn't sympathize at the moment and she needed answers, now.
"Oh mon dieu just try and think Klaus! Was a book in the box? Pogo went on about how he thought I found it but I hadn't yet. Is that what Pogo was looking for!" Amber exclaimed.
"I mean yeah, could have been. Only cared for the box, sparkle sparkle and cash you know. Why, what is special about that book?"
Everything Amber thought as she set a small fire in the fireplace. This would be for her next part of her plan as she summoned her fire cat Tybalt and Pennycrumb the fire terrier. Diego and Klaus' eyes widened as they saw the fire animals wander around before Amber got their attention.
"Tybalt, return home with Klaus and Diego. Set a fire in the fireplace in the living room if one isn't there and if anything is going on, retrieve me okay mon petit chat doux." Amber spoke softly.
Tybalt mewed and pounced on her feet before going to Klaus' side. Klaus put his hand near the cat and he could feel heat coming off it, making his step back.
"Wow this is so cool, isn't it Diego?"
Diego was intrigued but he was also wary of animals of fire walking around. They seemed calm and composed though, and they were pretty self-contained. No excess fire was going off or spreading with their movements and there were only faint scorch marks with the steps the cat was taking. He looked to the dog who was sitting patiently for his orders. Amber smiled and stroked Pennycrumb as if he were a real dog, causing Diego to smile softly.
"You can pet them like normal animals Amber?"
"Uh yes, what part of flame manipulation doesn't stick with you? These two are my most loyal pets and have been with me for a long time. Pennycrumb fun fact was a gift to Five when we were 16. Doesn't look bad for 42 huh?"
Diego was shocked but also found it sweet that this dog had been with them so to speak for 42 years and he looked at the cat who was swatting at Klaus' leg.
"What about the cat, is he 42 as well?"
"Sure is, he was my gift to myself and the most loyal of cats." Amber smiled.
Pennycrumb barked and Amber chuckled since she got distracted.
"I know you don't have a good sense on her Pennycrumb, but I want you to track Vanya for me. Come to me when you find her okay and if something happens to her okay boy." Amber ordered.
Pennycrumb barked and he licked Amber's cheek softly. He went to Diego's side but then noticed a fireplace. He pawed at it for a bit until a fire emerged, causing Diego to raise an eyebrow and Amber to chuckle.
"He always wants to be sure I have a place to hide or a fire source. Such a good dog. Don't worry about me Diego, I will be back at the academy soon." Amber told him.
Klaus and Diego didn't want to leave her alone but she assured them it was fine. Reluctantly, they agreed to go back to the academy, with Pennycrumb and Tybalt trailing behind them. Amber scanned through the books and pages until she checked the one near Jenkins body. It was a very ornate read book with RH on it, but a lot of the pages were ripped and tattered. The book was nearly half of what it should have been and she then noticed the pages that were around the floor probably came from this book.
"Shit Vanya what did you do." Amber commented as she looked through the book.
Her hands shook as she managed to find a small section on Number Seven, Vanya. Amber carefully looked and saw mentions of sound, energy, and emotions which confirmed Amber's fears. Now that wasn't medicating herself, she could feel emotions and trigger her powers. Jenkins must have been lying about his intentions and thus...dead Amber thought, looking at Jenkins on the floor.
"Vanya..."
Amber heard a loud meowing from the fireplace. She ran to see Tybalt emerge from the fire and he was bouncing about. He pawed at Amber's feet and she knew Tybalt had news.
"What's wrong boy? Is the academy under attack? Is the family in trouble?"
Tybalt bobbed his head and mewed. Amber sighed and stroked his head. Who the hell is after them? Well, I guess someone must be since Tybalt is here. There was no rest for her, she thought.
"I can't leave Five or those guys alone, can I? Thanks, my prince, rest now." Amber told him.
She swished her hand and had Tybalt disappear into her soul. Amber put the book in her purse and closed her eyes. She enveloped herself in flames and set her sights to return to the academy to make her next moves.
