~The more we deny that we have a dark side, the more power it have over us~

"Bells!" Jake yells boisterously as he picks me up and swings me around. He is massive, his 6'5 frame with bulging muscles overtowering me. His energy always puts a smile on my face and cheers me up. For such a big, intimidating guy, he's like a sweet little puppy on the inside – but he'd kill me if he ever heard me say that. I walk into his little rustic, wooden cabin that he lives in with his dad in La Push.

"So Bells, where the fuck have you been? We've all been trying to get a hold of you." I sit down on his brown leather couch as he grabs some of his dad's beer from the fridge; Billy's not home but he knows we steal his beers and he doesn't care anyway.

"Yeah… sorry Jake, I've just been really distracted lately but I didn't mean to avoid you guys." I take a sip of the cold beer, hoping he doesn't interrogate me.

"Is it because of your new boy toy?" He asks with a sly grin.

Never mind, what was I thinking? It's Jake, of course he's going to interrogate me.

"Yeah, actually it is. We've been seeing each other for a few months now and it's going really well."

Another white lie, I'm on a roll today. I don't want Jake to know the problems I've been having with Edward because he's overprotective. Jake's already jealous that I'm dating someone that's not him, so he'll find any reason to have problems with him.

"What? Bella Swan's actually settling down, never though I'd see the day." A hint of jealousy peeking through his teasing.

"Well, it's different with him. Our connection is extremely intense, I've never felt like this before."

"I don't know Bella, by the way you described it last time we spoke, the guy seemed unstable," he furrows his eyebrows.

Here we go again. I constantly feel like I need to defend Edward to everyone that doesn't know a thing about him.

"He's not, okay? He is amazing and treats me really good. I've never been so happy before."

A small frown forms on his face. "Well you've stopped seeing your friends and hanging out here and we know you don't have anyone else in Forks, so you've been spending all of your time with him then?"

"Jake, I already apologized, I know what I did was crappy, but I'm here today, aren't I? Plus, you've never cared this much about who I was fucking before," I roll my eyes.

"Bella, stop being a bitch. I fucking care, okay? I know we've always stood around while you made bad decisions but I'm tired of doing that. I'm fed up of standing around watching you get hurt and then having you only run back to me to pick up the pieces."

It's rare to see Jake angry like this. He's usually the most calm and collected one of the group. It takes a lot for him to lose his cool, he's usually the jokester.

I can't blame him for being angry though, he's always been there for me and I just tossed him away the second I met Edward.

I lower my voice, trying to reassure him. "You don't have to worry, I'm perfectly safe with Edward, he would never hurt me." White lies.

"Bella you have bags underneath your eyes and look like you haven't slept in days, plus you look skinnier than the last time I saw you," his face marred with a concerned frown.

"We're occupied doing other things," I smirk, trying to lighten the mood and not have him worry.

"Fuck, ok I don't need the details," he chuckles. Good, it sort of worked.

Just know that if anything happens, don't be afraid to come to me, I'll kick his ass if he ever hurts you."

Always, Jake," I promise, grabbing his hand.

A harsh banging on his front door interrupts us, startling us both.

"Do you owe anyone drug money?" I try to joke, hiding my fear of whoever is causing a commotion on the other side of the door. Jake isn't one to have problems with people.

The banging becomes more aggressive. "Seriously, who the fuck is that?" My stomach in knots, my heart pulsing.

"I have no idea, Bella go hide in my bedroom," he warns me as he grabs a baseball bat from his coat closet by the door.

"No, I'm not leaving you."

"Bella… GO NOW!" There's no point in arguing with him and distracting him. It sounds like whoever is on the other side of the door is about to break it down. Maybe I can find some kind of weapon in his bedroom and try to help him if things get out of hand.

Since the house is a bungalow, I can see the front door from the entrance of Jake's bedroom. I'm peaking my head out, needing to make sure he's ok.

Jake in all of his fearlessness, swings open the door. The moment it opens, a fist comes flying into his face. If he wasn't so big, he would've dropped to the floor.

I scream in shock and before I can see who the intruder is, I run into the room to look for something I can hit them with.

I freeze in my tracks and chills run down my spine when I hear a familiar, throaty, menacing voice roar out, "BELLA, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?"

Uh-oh, I'm fucked – and not in the good way.

A/N: Hi guys! I just want to make a quick mention to the loyal reviewers I have that review every chapter or even the ones that have just reviewed at all. I wouldn't even be posting this story if it wasn't for you guys! I really enjoy reading them and it motivates me. I appreciate you all! 3

I know I've brought this up a few times but I do want to mention though, that it's pretty discouraging when you have 150 followers and out of all those, I only have less than 5 reviews per chapter. I'm not one to beg or want pity for reviews, but I've put so much time into this fic so you all can enjoy it.

So again, I ask kindly, if you're following this story and enjoy it, please leave a review. Let's take care of each other in this fandom and support one another because that's part of the reason we're all here, right? :)
