Amber emerged from the lit fireplace at the academy and saw Diego fighting Hazel in the living room. So many questions her head as the fighting went on.
"Hazel why the hell are you here?" Amber questioned in a stern tone.
"I really want to help you and your husband out Amber..."
"Yeah, right you bastard. You came looking for them and killed Patch, you're not getting off easy." Diego told him as he stabbed him in the side.
Amber noticed Five was at the bar with Dolores and she was beyond miffed at him. He could understand maybe if he was reading books or working on a time map, but he was doing nothing while Diego and Hazel fought.
"You're just sitting there while your brother fights off Hazel?""
Five scoffed and it was then she noticed Five was holding a huge glass with a tiny umbrella. Amber saw it was filled with booze and rolled her eyes. How dare he claim to need answers she thought with annoyance while in actuality he was just drinking.
"So let me get this straight. You left me behind to 'find answers' when in fact you are just getting drunk off your ass Five? We don't have the time for this. We need to stop the end and find Vanya."
"Look, the end is over if Jenkins is killed right. It might be hard for us to accept but it is. Now come sit with me. I made a drink for you too, it has extra lime juice like you love so much." Five chuckled.
Amber slapped him across the face, which caused Five to hiss and rub the right side of his cheek. It felt like his cheek was on fire but thankfully it was her natural warm touch versus the element itself.
"How about an apology for leaving me behind? Besides, you're getting sloppy and I just don't mean being a sloppy little drunk. If you actually took a look at Jenkins place, you would have found something he took from your father." Amber expressed.
Five raised his eyebrow and sipped his margarita.
"What could have possibly been there for me to have stuck around? You've seen Harold dead on the floor, right? I doubt he could have taken anything without our know how." Five chuckled.
Amber scoffed and shook her head.
"Remember when Klaus was looking in the dumpster?"
"Wow you still remember that? I tried blocking that moment out since it wasn't important."
Of course he did, Amber thought as she got out the book from her purse. Five glanced at the nearly torn up book and thought his wife was nuts. Amber could sense his indifference and sighed deeply.
"Focus! Jenkins could have been watching the place, seeing how he has vendetta against your family and all. For all we know, the reason why Klaus couldn't find the book is because Jenkins took it from the dumpster Klaus threw it in."
Five looked over Amber's shoulder to see his brother biting Hazel's ear. Five hissed and put down his drink. He blipped behind his brother with a glass vase to knock his brother out.
"Five what the hell!?" Amber yelled.
"I draw the line at biting." Five expressed.
"Really since you like biting during our love affairs." Amber teased.
Hazel's eyes widened and Five just shook his head at his wife.
"Don't you have a filter when speaking in front of others of what we do or don't do in sex darling? Besides, you know I hate primitive tactics in combat. Plus, who knows where Hazel has been." Five commented as he made his way back to the bar.
Amber's temper was rising but she took a deep breath to calm down. She focused her attention to Hazel and stated,
"Why are you here?"
"I left my partner, quit the Commission, and came here to help you." Hazel informed him.
"Help us? You mean the end is still happening? Did you get a new order from Handler and screwed her off?" Amber inquired.
Five chuckled at her choice of words which angered Amber as he drank more.
"Dammit Five you know what I mean!"
"Oh, I know Amber, it's just funny that Hazel thinks he can help us now. Slow as always." Five chuckled.
Hazel glared at Five since he was acting like a childish brat. He had given up his life of killing people to start fresh and to have what he and Amber cherished. Meanwhile, Five was just indulging in drinks and not giving a crap about others, including his wife.
"What can be so funny right now?" Hazel questioned.
"Blame his liquor since his mind isn't in its right mind. You should hear Hazel out Five, especially if it means finding Vanya. I hate she's alone and what she could be feeling right about now." Amber warned as she gave Five the book.
Five glanced over the book, shrugging as he placed it on the table. This only angered Amber more.
"You know how long I spent looking for that? There is information on your sister that proves what I've been saying all along and you're not batting an eye at it!"
"I'll get to it soon and we will find Vanya. Now, why do you want to help us now?" Five asked Hazel.
Hazel's smiled softened and told him,
"Let's just say I have a vested interest in a doughnut shop."
Five chuckled as he looked at Hazel's physique. Sure, he would be into a food place Five thought. Amber saw it wasn't the doughnuts as he saw a faint blush on Hazel's face. Her eyes slightly widened as she recalled the waitress Agnes and smiled softly.
"More like a doughnut maker. Congrats Hazel! How sweet, pun intended of course. There truly is someone for everyone. You be good to her though you hear?" Amber congratulated.
Hazel smiled since Amber was naturally supportive like she had been back at the Commission.
"I will Amber, hence why I want to stop the end now so we can live in peace. I finally understand old timer, why you and Amber were joined at the hip; love is truly that amazing to live for." Hazel appealed to them.
Five cracked a slight smile before taking another sip.
"Well thanks Hazel, but I'm afraid to break this news to you but we don't need your help. You're a day late and a dollar short. The apocalypse is over. " Five told him.
"Not sure about that Five. It's not over until we find Vanya. I will be at peace then." Amber told him.
"Look Amber, why else would Hazel be here. He's the last unknown in this whole thing. Their mark of protection is dead, no mystery aside from how Jenkins got killed..."
"Vanya killed him!" Amber exclaimed to him.
Five's eyes slightly widened as he placed the glass on the table. Amber sighed and got the book from the bar table and showed the page on Vanya. Five read about sound, energy, and emotions and he raised his eyebrow.
"You sure this was my father's?"
"Isn't this his handwriting Five, you would know better than I would." Amber protested.
Five glanced at the writing again and he couldn't deny that his father did write this. He couldn't understand why or how Vanya could have these powers but his wife's theories had some meat to them now.
"Wouldn't she know..."
"Rumored." Amber interrupted.
Five understood what Amber meant and he sighed.
"Main thing is, Jenkins is dead so he can't use Vanya to blow up the world anyway."
"We found Allison in a pool of her own blood and we saw Jenkins dead with this book near him. Do you think Vanya is emotionally stable for us not to worry about her? I've lost control and I know better than anyone how certain powers can be destructive." Amber argued.
"I don't see you looking for her if you're that worried?" Five defended.
"That's because Tybalt saw Diego and Hazel fighting here asshole! Of course, I was going to see what was going on with Diego before you knocked him out coldly. Besides, Pennycrumb is on her trail and hopefully he finds her soon to take her to me. Honestly Five, I hate you're not listening to me!"
"Vanya is my sister, I know what she's..."
"You don't! You haven't known for all her life if this book is telling us anything! If you're going to be this way with your head up your ass, fine but I'm not listening to the bull crap that's coming out." Amber told him.
Amber looked at Dolores and her face softened. She went to her and took her in her arms.
"I know Dolores. Maybe Five's right but my gut is telling me this isn't over." Amber whispered.
Five raised an eyebrow at her and Amber looked over a Dolores.
"I'm going to bring her back home. You come find us when your head is out of your ass will you. We will be leaving her behind again and I want a formal goodbye this time from both of us." Amber told him.
She did look rather silly taking the car to drive half a mannequin back to a mall, but she would do anything for her dear friend. On the drive to the mall, Dolores made a comment that made Amber sigh.
"I don't like it when we fight either Dolores, trust me. Am I that wrong for being stubborn about Vanya and the apocalypse still going on?"
Dolores was silent but Amber heard her words and smiled.
"Thank you, least one of you believes in me or do you think it was the booze flowing that made Five nonchalant?"
Again, not a word but Amber chuckled.
"Yeah, he's a sloppy drinker yet I still found him incredibly hot while in that stupor. He could be covered in blood from a kill and he would charm and swoon me to my core. Those thoughts aside, the one thing I wish he would do more is listen to me. We relied on each other so we should trust the other right? I'm not stating lies but facts and proofs."
Dolores informed her that Five still had ingrained ideas of his siblings and Amber sighed.
"Right, the last time before any of this he saw Vanya as quiet, shy, meek, and powerless. He doesn't want to see his sweet sister as a monster. I can't blame him...in all ways I should have been seen as a monster when I told him about my murders but he can't either. I see your point Dolores...I'm going to miss you."
Amber got to the mall and snuck back to the storeroom to find a good bottom half for Dolores to sport. Dolores motioned to one and it made Amber cackle.
"I know you missed having such killer legs and I agree, they match your tone quite well." Amber told her.
Amber went through the wigs and found a nice brunette wavy number for Dolores to wear. She could have sworn that Dolores was pointing to a blonde wig and Amber playfully shook her head.
"Sorry Dolores, you don't need to be a blonde to have more fun. Plus, you were always very distinctive with brunette locks. "
There was a shine in Dolores' eyes Amber hadn't seen in a while and that made Amber smile but also made her heart fall. When Amber was checking out the outfits in the back, she smiled a bit at a sequined blue number with sleeves and a slight plunge in neckline. Dolores would kill this Amber thought and snatched it up for her. She also took a black bolero jacket, black flats, and a silver bird necklace. Once she was done shopping of sorts, she snuck out of the store room and put Dolores on the display floor where they took her days before. Amber styled up Dolores and she felt a stray tear fall from her face. She could hear chuckling and Amber forced a laugh out.
"Come on, I'm not crying. I'm happy you get to be back home and you'll be out of our hair." Amber lied.
Dolores said nothing but Amber simply sighed since she couldn't lie to her.
"Yes, you're right...I'm going to miss you, our late-night girl chats over some cheap wine, your snarky comments, your pearls of wisdom... I'm going to miss you, Dolores." Amber choked.
As soon as Amber was finished styling and posing Dolores in a modest yet sweet laid-back pose, she heard footsteps behind her.
"Wow Dolores is a real knock out, you did great work on her darling."
Amber cracked a slight smile and turned around to see her husband behind her.
"Hope you don't change your mind and want to take her instead of me." Amber teased.
Both of them laughed and shook their heads.
"Nah, she won't be warm enough to snuggle to. Besides, Dolores wouldn't like to be with a married man anyway." Five commented with a slight smile.
Amber smiled back but also crossed her arms. Five sighed since he wasn't off the hook from his actions and words.
"I'm sorry Amber. Maybe I was relishing too much with Jenkins being dead."
"Plus, you sipping on margaritas without me is one thing, but drinking when you were supposedly trying to figure something out pissed me off on another level. What got you that way anyway?"
"Klaus...he mentioned how the apocalypse was our high that we are both going to be withdrawing from it. Our whole lives were us planning to stop it and... poof it's gone."
"Again, I don't think it is and that's not me wanting to keep the high going. You looked at Reggie's notes?" Amber asked.
Five nodded.
"What was left of them and I did find something you missed that does concern me. My father mentioned that Vanya's powers were uncontrollable and that they are in fact dangerous. If what we saw with Allison and Jenkins...if that was Vanya...I agree we need to find her and fast before she's too far gone."
"Far gone? Five what are you saying?" Amber worried.
Five got distracted and looked over to Dolores. He smiled at her and ran his fingers on the sequined dress.
"She always loved sequins and hopefully gets to wear more."
Amber was going to call him out on changing the subject, but Amber can tell Five was feeling low about leaving her as well. She interlocked his arms with hers and both teens looked to Dolores. They listened to her words about being partners to one another and to listen since that will be the key for many more years to their marriage. Amber chuckled and shook her head.
"Were you married before Dolores or you're just giving us farewell advice since you won't be with us anymore?" Amber asked.
No words but the message to them was clear. Five nodded and stroked his wife's hand.
"Thank you for everything Dolores. We wouldn't be here without you... we wouldn't be what we are without you. Thank you, Dolores." Five told her.
"Yes, thank you... I'm going to miss you dear friend. You'll make new friends here and you'll be the prettiest one here."
Both teens got choked up about Dolores since they were leaving her once more and this time, for good. They had each other but they would still miss the one person who's been with them at their lowest of lows. They would never forget their oldest and dearest friend."
"Goodbye Dolores." both said in a solemn voice.
Both of them left the mall in low spirits and were only snapped out of their sad lull with dog barks.
"Pennycrumb." both of them said to the other.
They saw the fire dog sprint towards them and he was whimpering. Amber bent down to him and stroked him.
"What's wrong boy? Where's Vanya? Is she back at the academy?" Amber asked.
Pennycrumb tugged on Amber's sleeve and this was a very telling and bad sign. He never did this action so something horrible happened or was about to happen, and Amber had the same feeling in her gut.
"We got to head back, now."
