Haha! It's so not getting better in this chapter- Poor poor Percy's in trouble. Also, introducing a character I hinted at earlier- she's a bitch and also somewhat flirty at times and I love her- don't worry though it will be purely friendship and nothing to threaten Perachelbeth in that sense. Also I hate that Rick made her such a two dimensional character, or that's how it felt to me. Read, review, and tell me what you think guys- I love hearing peoples opinions.
Anyway- some trigger warnings for this chapter just in case: Alabaster is an abusive asshole, and some non-consensual kissing, also he's creepy as hell and Percy does not have a good time. She's gonna need therapy after this.
Percy had been prepared for a gush of blood, for his weight to topple forward, maybe even for him to put up a bit of a fight before bleeding out.
She hadn't been prepared for the glass to slide across his skin as if it were metal.
Her mouth dropped open in shock- and her eyes flicked up to meet the emerald green of Alabasters- and they were both frozen for a long moment- and then Alabaster was gripping the wrist of the hand she'd used to try and slice his throat open and he was slamming it back against the bed frame, a furious snarl on his lip as the glass shard slipped from her hand.
"You just don't know when to stop do you?" he demanded, "You don't fucking stop!" he was squeezing her wrist painfully and Percy cried out, though she forced back the tears that wanted to fall as she brought her other hand around, trying to claw at his face- not that it did any good- it was the strangest thing she'd ever felt- his skin felt normal, rough from the scarring but as she'd expect- except when she tried to dig her nails in and rake them down it did nothing- it was as if his skin was made of metal or something except it did feel normal.
Then his free hand was wrapped around her throat, pinning her against the bed.
"Let go!" she tried to kick out but then he was shifting and she screamed in pain when he sat down on her legs, pinning them beneath his weight and trapping her against the bed, he didn't care at all when she frantically pounded on his chest with her free hand. "Get off! Get off you're hurting me-"
"Oh, as if you didn't just try to kill me." Alabaster snarled, leaning in closer so that their faces were inches apart. "You just tried to slit my throat princess. Gods I have tried time and time again to be good to you but you just throw it back in my face every time." he was furious- Percy had never ever seen him like this- and gods but it hurt, the weight on her burned legs painful and he just didn't care. He didn't care that she was sobbing and shaking and trying to pull herself free. There was nothing she could do.
She'd never felt this terrified of him before. "P-please I won't try and escape I won't- I won't try anything again I swear-"
"You're right. You won't." Alabaster hissed the words, his grip on her throat tightening. "I'm done trying to protect you. You're mine Percy- one way or another in the end you're going to be mine." and she couldn't breath, his grip was too tight and she couldn't breath.
For a moment she was sure that this was it- that he'd choke her to death- but then his grip on her throat loosened, and then released entirely.
"You know." his voice was cold, "You're pretty when you beg and cry." he didn't release her wrist, but he did move his hand slowly, brushing her hair out of her face gently. "You did this to yourself. You know that right?"
"I-" Percy nodded- she was smart enough to know that trying to argue would just end up with her in more pain. "Yes Alabaster."
"Good girl." he combed his fingers gently through her tangled waves, "Your hair's a mess princess. But then I guess it hasn't been brushed in a while. I'll send someone to help you take care of it. I want you looking your best for me. And she'll deal with the cuts on your hand too- and help you bathe- and before you even think of it the magic in this room extends to the bathroom, you won't be able to use your powers at all and I will make sure you're only allowed in there when you're supervised."
"I- thank you."
"See, you do know how to behave." Alabaster almost whispered the words as he stared at her. "So beautiful."
"I-" Percy closed her eyes, trying to force herself to stop crying, "Can- can you please get off me? You're hurting me." she whispered the words, "M-my legs-"
"See, that's how you should ask." Alabaster shifted, lifting himself off of Percy's legs and moving so that he was just to her right, still leaning close to her. "If only I believed you were actually learning." he shook his head, letting go of her wrist only to curl the fingers of his other hand into a fist, gripping her hair tightly and yanking her face forward, pressing his lips to hers, biting at her bottom lip to force her to respond, her lips parting in a frightened gasp- she couldn't even turn her head away with how tightly he was gripping her hair- and she felt herself start sobbing as he kissed her, and then he pulled back, releasing his grip on her hair as he moved. "Now, I was nice enough to bring you food." he reached over, grabbing something from the tray on the bed, and then she shrieked- because he'd upended a bowl of hot chicken noodles over her head. "But you decided to try and kill me. So this is what you get instead-"
"Alabaster!"
"What do you expect princess? If you don't behave then you get punished." Alabaster stood up, "I would tell you not to try and get up on your own but I doubt you'd be stupid enough to try." it after this." then he was turning and walking away, and Percy watched him go- shaking from fear and shame and anger as the door slammed shut and locked behind him.
How had things gone so wrong? He- she'd been unable to so much as leave a mark on him. It was as if his skin was made of metal.
Percy closed her eyes, a sob slipping past her lips once more. At least the broth hadn't been hot enough to burn her- though now it was cooling down and turning horrible and sticky and she couldn't bring herself to even try to move. She just sobbed and sat there until the door swung open again.
She lifted her head, and at least it wasn't Alabaster, though she didn't recognize the girl that slipped into the room.
She was beautiful, a tall Asian girl with dark hair that fell in ringlets around her face, with warm brown eyes. She looked like she'd stepped out of a fashion magazine in her jeans and the stylish halterneck top she was wearing, a platinum pendant shaped like the letter D sparkling around her neck- though the bag slung over her shoulder didn't quite fit the image, brown and plain looking.
"W-who are you?"
"My name is Drew-" the girl shut the door behind her, eyeing Percy wearing before she spoke again, "I heard you attacked Alabaster." she smirked slightly as she moved over and crouched in front of Percy, "Hold out your hands."
And Percy's hands moved automatically- without her even having time to think- she didn't have any control over it- and she let out a shocked noise as she gaped at Drew, who grabbed her hands and looked at them.
"How-"
"I'm a daughter of Aphrodite." Drew remarked, "I have the gift of Charmspeak. People do when I tell them to usually."
"He sent you because you can control me. You can just tell me what to do." Percy realized, her face pale.
"Yeah." Drew nodded, shrugging lightly as she let go of Percy's still outstretched hand, opening up the bag and pulling out some spray and some wipes. "I'm the one they send when there's a troublesome captive." she squirted the spray onto Percy's hands- it stung and Percy hissed in pain as she wiped them over carefully.
"Do you like that?" Percy asked quietly? "Why? Why work with them I don't understand?"
"Of course you don't. I've heard all about you. The perfect Princess Percy." Drew rolled her eyes, "Beautiful hero who everyone loves." there was bitterness in Drew's voice. "Do you know what it was like for me when I was little? I asked for things and I got them. Every time- nice right?" she kept wiping Percy's hands as she spoke.
"I mean, it doesn't sound so bad-"
"My dad thought it was- and my step mom. I'd tell them to do something and they did it. One time my half sister, she really pissed me off so I told her to go jump off a bridge- my step mom had to physically drag her off-" and Percy's eyes widened in shock at that, her mouth dropping open.
"I-"
"I've lost count of the amount of times I've been called a monster." Drew leaned back, dropping the wipe on the floor, as she got to her feet, "Up." and Percy was suddenly pulling herself to her feet- whimpering at the pain that shot through her as she did.
"I'm sorry." she managed, "That- that you went through that-"
"My dad once told me he should muzzle me." Drew was walking across the room, unlocking the other door- and pushing it open to reveal a more modern looking room- a bathroom with a shower in it, and a toilet too. "I was like six. Real loving dad right?"
"No one deserves that."
"Yeah, well, not everyone's perfect like you. I'm just a beautiful monster."
"Drew-"
"I'm a daughter of Aphrodite. I was born to break hearts."
"No you weren't." Percy frowned, "I- why would you think that."
"It's what I've always been told."
"Yeah well what if they're wrong? I've met a lot of Aphrodite kids. None of them are born to break hearts like that-"
"Can any of them do what I do?"
"I-" Percy faltered before shaking her head, "No." she admitted quietly, "No they can't. Not that I know of."
"Exactly. Where else would they be so happy to have me huh?" Drew flipped her hair over her shoulder, "You're going to shower and get yourself clean, there's soaps and stuff in there and a towel on the rack. Once you're done I'll have a chiton laid out on your bed and Alabaster's told me to help you make yourself presentable." she rolled her eyes, "As if I'm some kind of babysitter."
And Percy found that she was painfully relieved when Drew turned and left the bathroom, and she let herself follow the other girls orders without fighting it- the feeling of relief she got after stripping down and stepping into the shower was amazing- she had it cold at first- and the soothing feeling of it cooling the burned skin- and the healing effect of the water had her slumping against the glass of the shower- at least the magic did seem to allow that to come through.
After several long minutes Percy straightened up and found the soaps and the shampoo and conditioner- she took her time as she washed herself. She wanted to make the most of the time she was allowed to spend in the water- she doubted that she'd be allowed to spend that much time in it.
But she could only spend so long, and after she's washed away the blood and broth- and her hands were clear of any marks from the glass now, and her skin looked very very slightly less red as she wrapped a towel around herself, and one around her hair.
She left the dirty chiton on the floor and she made her way out of the bathroom- and she really had taken her time- Drew had cleared up the mess from the glass and noodles and she was sat on the bed, staring into a mirror as she fixed her- to Percy's eyes, already flawless makeup.
Drew looked up when Percy stepped into the room, and she smirked slightly, eyes flicking up and down. "You clean up nice. I now get Alabaster's obsession." and Percy clutched the towel tighter, her face flushing a brilliant shade of red- or it would have if it wasn't for the fact that her face was already bright red from the burns.
"Don't talk like that-"
"And you get cute when you're flustered." Drew's voice was amused as she shook her head, "There's another chiton on the bed, you know how to put it on?"
"I-" Percy hesitated before she nodded, "Can you-"
"Can I turn around and protect your modesty?" Drew snickered nastily, "You know I could just order you to get changed and you'd have to do it." but she turned around, and Percy let out a relieved noise, willing herself dry and grabbing the clothes off the bed and pulling them on, smoothing her hands over the fabric of the chiton once she was dressed.
"You can turn back around again."
And Drew did, raising an eyebrow as she looked Percy up and down, "Well aren't you as stunning as a goddess." Drew smirked, "Come here. Let me brush out your hair." and this time Percy realized that Drew hadn't used her powers- and Percy felt a surge of gratitude, giving the other girl a very weak smile as she moved over to the bed and sat down as Drew shifted and grabbed a hairbrush.
And there was something soothing about the feeling of the daughter of Aphrodite pulling the brush through her hair, slowly tugging out the tangles and humming quietly- seemingly unaware that she was even doing it as she did.
Once she was done Drew pulled back and got off the bed, gathering up the things she'd brought with her. "So Princess. Are you hungry?"
"Uh-" Percy hesitated before nodding. "Yeah." she admitted, "I am."
"I'll grab you some food then." Drew flipped her hair over her shoulder again, "Just don't tell Alabaster when he comes back in or he'll kill me." then she was leaving the room and locking it behind her- but Percy found herself thinking that maybe- just maybe, she'd managed to find, if not a friend, then someone who could stop her from breaking down.
