Author's note:
I should probably preface this chapter by saying that this is basically a social commentary on parties, pointing out how ridiculous some of them are, particularly teenage parties. Personally, I was never a big party person as I felt there were ways I could be happy and have a good time without drowning my body in alcohol. This being said, this chapter does get pretty zany, but aptly so as it's supposed to demonstrate how utterly ridiculous teenage party culture can be.
Going with the reference from the last chapter, I also want to mention the title of this chapter is a direct reference to the OK KO episode that the girl ghouls appeared in, also titled "Monster Party."
Thursday, March 7
It's been a pretty quiet several weeks! Not much going on. Sort of makes me wish there was some exciting stuff happening at Grimwood's.
Sybella trailed off in her journal as she thought about what she wanted to wear for the day. She decided to wear a shirt that had beads threaded on the cross-laced sleeves. The vampiress had become more comfortable looking cute and fashionable as she had grown up. Sybella remembered back a few years ago where "cute" felt weak and fake, but as the vampire experimented with her fashion style over the years, she actually felt quite at home with more girly clothing.
The vampire princess had a tendency to spend forever daydreaming before she went down to breakfast, but she knew that she needed to pull herself out of her head so she could get her day started!
When Sybella met the other ghouls down at breakfast, she was a tad surprised to see Miss Grimwood standing next to her four friends, all of whom had already gotten breakfast. Lately, they hadn't been seeing Miss Grimwood until closer to dinnertime.
"Good morning, Miss Grimwood!" Sybella greeted.
"Good morning, Sybella. I just was telling the others about my conference tomorrow." Miss Grimwood shared.
"Oh, we'll be having visitors at Grimwood's?" Sybella assumed.
"No, I shall actually be traveling about a half an hour away to Skull Island to attend the Ghoul Board's Yearly Moonlight Conference." Miss Grimwood informed.
"I don't remember you ever mentioning that before." Tanis pointed out.
"Ah yes, I usually miss the conference as I needed to take care of you all. However, all of you are growing into such mature young women. Most of you will be 18 in less than a year, and I feel you are old enough and mature enough to be left alone for an evening. I trust each of you very much, and I know you'll be fine while I'm away. I shall leave at around four o'clock and return at sunrise." Miss Grimwood said. "Perhaps you girls could go for a nice walk or spend some bonding time together."
"That's a great idea!" Tanis smiled.
"I knew you girls would do wonderfully. You're the best students a headmistress could ever ask for." Miss Grimwood smiled. "I'd love to stay and chat, but I have some reports to prepare for tomorrow's conference. Besides, you girls have to get to Film Studies, too."
"Oh my gosh, it's already almost 9." Winnie pointed to the clock.
Sybella hadn't even had time to eat breakfast, so she quickly picked out a chocolate muffin and ate it on the go, whilst following the other ghouls to Coach Micucci's class.
"'Sup." was the first word Sybella heard upon getting to class.
The word came out of Sidney's mouth, to which Sybella responded: "How are you?"
"Good! Did you hear about the party tomorrow?" Sidney asked.
"No. Party? Where?" Sybella inquired.
"Right here at Grimwood's! Rumor has it Miss Grimwood is gonna be gone at some conference all night, so some people and I came up with the idea to have a party!" Sidney revealed.
Uh oh. This was not a good idea, as far as Sybella was concerned. Miss Grimwood trusted the five of them. How could they ruin her trust by throwing some crazy party the one night she wasn't here?
"Umm...I don't know if I can make it." Sybella said a tad awkwardly. She didn't want to disappoint Sidney, but she knew Miss Grimwood would never forgive them if they were complicit in plans to throw a raging party.
"What do you mean you can't make it?" Sidney laughed. "You literally live here. Where else do you have to be?"
"That's not what I mean." Sybella elaborated. "I don't want to betray Miss Grimwood's trust by throwing a wild party the one night she's gone."
"Sybella, you know me. It's not going to be a wild party. It's just going to be a fun time where we can hang out with some of our peers." Sidney clarified. "Miss Grimwood is always saying we should branch out of our comfort zones because we're graduating soon. She'd totally be fine with us having a little party, right? Don't tell her though, because she might not actually be fine with it."
"Uhh…" Sybella stuttered. Was Sidney peer pressuring her?
"C'mon! It'll be fun." Sidney persuaded.
Sybella decided to trust Sidney. If it was just a little get-together that didn't get wild, Miss Grimwood would likely be fine with it.
"Okay. I'll be there." Sybella reluctantly agreed.
"Awesome! Elsa, Tanis, Winnie, do you want to come too?" Sidney invited.
"Come to what?" Elsa inquired.
"We're having a little par-" Sidney paused for a moment. "I mean, get-together on Friday night here at Grimwood's. It'll just be a chance to hang out and chill together."
"Sure. That'll be fun." Elsa agreed.
"Yeah! It'll be a howl!" Winnie accepted the invitation.
"I don't know…that's the night Miss Grimwood's gone." Tanis looked worried. "She might be mad."
"No, she won't." Sidney reassured. "Miss Grimwood wants you to hang out with friends and have new experiences, right?"
"Well, yeah." Tanis said cautiously.
"Then she'll be fine with it!" Sidney comforted. "The catch is that you can never tell her though, because she might not actually be fine with it."
"Umm…" Tanis stuttered.
"C'mon. All your friends are going to be there! You don't want to miss out on an amazing night with your friends." Sidney tried to persuade.
"Okay...I guess I can come." Tanis said.
"Great! Phanty? Isaiah? We're having a party on Friday, do you want to come?" Sidney called across the room to the two lovebird spirits.
"Hell yeah!" Isaiah exclaimed.
"Sounds like a scream!" Phanty punned. "Of course I'll be there."
"Awesome! This is gonna be a great night." Sidney said, just as Coach Micucci came into the room.
Why did Sidney say "party" instead of get-together? That worried Sybella a bit, but she chose not to overly fixate on it.
"Alright, class. We're gonna watch a classic today. It's called...The Sound of Music?! Oh god, just shoot me now." Coach Micucci growled, as he begrudgingly put the VHS tape in the player. "Where does the Ghoul Board find these crappy movies?"
As the movie began playing, a woman could be heard singing atop a mountain.
"Uh oh!" Coach Micucci exclaimed. "The back cover of this movie says there's Nazis in this film! I can't show you poor kids this! I guess that means we'll have to watch The Lorax 3."
"There's a Lorax 3?" Winnie asked.
"Oh yeah. Well, it's technically just a special feature of Danny DeVito talkin' on The Lorax 2, but close enough." Coach Micucci exclaimed.
"I didn't know VHS tapes could have special features." Elsa said.
"Well, that's why it's special." Coach Micucci argued.
The special feature started to play, and Danny DeVito began talking on the television.
"Hi, I'm Danny DeVito." Danny greeted.
"What was your favorite part of working on the film?" an male interviewer in the background asked.
"Well, it was pretty neat workin' with Taylor Swift! Wowee, is she ever cute! Almost as cute as me!" Danny answered.
"Indeed you are, Danny." the interviewer replied. "What was your favorite role you've ever participated in?"
"Well, I loved participating in the One Direction music video. Those five guys are pretty cute. Almost as cute as me!" Danny DeVito complimented himself.
The interview continued to drag on as Sybella watched it, feeling bored.
"Last question, Danny." the interviewer said, nearly an hour into the interview. "What impact do you hope The Lorax has as the years go on?"
"I hope people see it as a classic, feel-good movie they want to watch over and over. You know, just something real cute. Like me!" Danny answered.
"Thank you, Danny. This has been a great interview and it's wonderful to meet you!" the interview complimented.
"You're very welcome. You know, you're a pretty neat guy." Danny DeVito smiled. "A little work, and you could be as cute as I am! Goodnight everyone, and remember, stay cute! Like me!"
Coach Micucci ejected the VHS right as Danny DeVito did one final wink towards the camera.
"So, what'd you think?" the coach asked.
"Uhhh...I've never seen anything like it." Sybella admitted.
"Nor have I. That Danny guy is pretty cute." Coach Micucci uncharacteristically said. "Have a good day, guys. See ya next week."
"There's still two hours left of class though, sir." Tanis pointed out.
"Eh, I've got nothin' else for ya. I guess just go to your next class now. Won't your next teacher be surprised you're hours early?" Coach Micucci exclaimed.
Sybella packed up her belongings, but didn't head to class right away. With an hour lunch break scheduled before her next class, she wasn't going to be three hours early for class. She decided to head to the dining hall to study with the other ghouls until lunch.
After her extra time studying and lunch, the vampiress headed to her final course of the day, Human Studies.
She arrived just before class was about to start, and waved to Alexis before Mrs. Griffin began her lecture for the day.
"Hello, class." Mrs. Griffin greeted. "This afternoon, we are going to be talking about monster representation in the media. To do this, we are going to watch scenes from a few old horror movies. After each movie clip, I'd like you to tell me how you see monsters represented."
Mrs. Griffin put in a VHS and began playing a scene. The scene depicted a Frankenstein's monster destroying what appeared to be a laboratory, tossing things everywhere and yelling incoherent nonsense. Sybella couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was so offensive!
"What did you see in this first scene?" Mrs. Griffin asked.
"The monster was portrayed as if it were some soulless, consciousless beast bent on destruction." Sybella scoffed, still frustrated by the terrible representation. "He wasn't even speaking a real language. It was just made-up."
"Absolutely correct, Sybella." Mrs. Griffin said. "Let's play the next scene."
Mrs. Griffin ejected the VHS and replaced it with another.
This one showed a vampire kidnapping a girl and nibbling on her neck, trying to suck her blood.
"Oh, that's just completely wrong!" Alexis blurted.
"How so, Alexis?" Mrs. Griffin challenged.
"Most vampires drink the blood of animals that are already dead. It's no different from how humans harvest animal meat and mass produce it. We don't just go around biting everyone." Alexis harrumphed.
Sybella couldn't agree more. This was a completely inaccurate representation.
"That's sadly correct, Alexis." Mrs. Griffin agreed. "Monsters are stigmatized and portrayed in inappropriate and oppressive ways in the media by humans, even to this day. These movies breed fear through inaccurate representations of monster life and behavior, by making it seem like monsters cannot be controlled and are going to kill us all. Humans leave these movies terrified, because they believe what they see is an accurate way to view monsters."
This made Sybella incredibly upset. How could humans be so ridiculous and cruel to monsters? It was bad enough most humans didn't believe in monsters, but to commercialize these stereotypes of monsters to make humans believe monsters were scary was just offensive.
Yearbook was proving to be low-key so far. They'd already formatted all the interviews and pictures on each page. Now, it was time to add each of the class polls to the yearbook.
Sam could be seen typing "Awesomest Most OG Homie" as a category once again on her computer.
"No, Sam!" Sami playfully smacked the werewolf's hand.
"Girls, it's six o'clock. You are welcome to quit anytime you like and get some dinner." Miss Lillard informed.
"Sweet. Let's go get some dinner, fam." Savana invited. "I'm about done with this week and ready for the weekend."
"Any particular reason?" Sybella inquired.
"Word has it there's a huge party here tomorrow night." Savana answered.
"There is? Sweet. I'm coming too." Sam invited herself.
"Well, I always go anywhere you guys go, so I guess I'm coming as well." Sami shrugged. "Are you going to be there too, Sybella?"
"I live here, so I kinda have to be." the vampire princess laughed.
"Facts." Sam simply replied and nodded.
Sybella worried a tad that so many people knew about this party. Did that mean it was going to be wild and crazy?
Friday, March 8
Tonight is it! The night of the party. I'm not super excited though. At least it's probably not going to be wild, but I don't like being pressured to go behind Miss Grimwood's back like this when she's not here. I just hope everything goes smoothly and nothing bad happens that would make Miss Grimwood find out about the party.
Upon arriving in Economics class, Sybella noticed George and Jonathan huddled in the corner by the phone holding a large book.
"Yo, I've always wanted to call this number. Look at the person's name!" Jonathan began cracking up.
"A. Gorilla? Hahaha!" George laughed, as he dialed the number.
Sybella chose to ignore them and sit next to Phantasma.
"Hey, you looking forward to the party?" Sybella inquired of the ghost.
"Yeah! It'll be super fun!" Phantasma replied.
Sybella was about to tell Phantasma she wasn't really all that excited about the party, given they'd be going behind Miss Grimwood's back to do it. However, Jonathan interrupted her.
"Are you guys talking about the party?" he chimed in.
Both ghouls nodded.
"Hell yeah! This is gonna be a bitchin' bash!" George butted into the conversation.
Oh no. They were coming too? Things could get out of hand if too many screw-arounds like those two got involved with the party. This was going to be a long night.
After a mediocre Economics class of learning about microeconomics (the cousin to Sybella's nemesis, macroeconomics), Sybella was finally freed from the boredom that was Mr. Jaffe's lecture. She ate a quick lunch at the dining hall before heading to Sociology class. The familiar witch with a side shave was there to say hello to her.
"Hey Sybella!" Kenzie greeted as Sybella sat in her seat. "Any plans for the weekend?"
"Uh, I think I'm going to a party." Sybella blushed a little. She didn't take Kenzie for the partying type, so she felt a bit embarrassed to admit her association with such an activity. "How about you?"
Kenzie ignored the second part of the question at first. "A party? Is that the one that Sidney girl, Eric and Daniel came up with? I think that's gonna be a little skeezy, if you know what I mean. Oh, though I guess you live here so you kinda have to be around."
"Eric and Daniel?" Sybella sighed. "I didn't know they were in on this."
"Oh yeah. It's gonna be a pretty wild party from what I hear." Kenzie informed. "I'm just doing homework this weekend. Partying isn't really my thing."
"Oh no. Miss Grimwood is going to kill us." Sybella facepalmed.
"You might want to tell her before she leaves for that conference." Kenzie suggested.
"Ah c'mon, man, don't be a party crasher! We're just tryna get our swerve on without any adult supervision, y'know what I mean?" Daniel laughed.
"I will." Sybella whispered to Kenzie. She just hoped that she'd be able to before the headmistress left.
"And that's the collective self." Ms. Cohn summarized. "To sum things up, the collective self is how you view yourself based on social groups you are a part of."
This made Sybella worry about how people would view her if the party went on as scheduled. Would she be viewed as the bad party girl who's always getting into trouble? Not if she could help it...she had to stop this.
Sybella bolted down the hallway to catch Miss Grimwood as soon as the bell rang. Upon running into the other ghouls, who were all gathered in the main entryway, the vampiress inquired "Is Miss Grimwood still here?"
"She just left five minutes ago." Elsa informed, pointing to the clock, which read 4:05.
"Oh no." Sybella sighed.
"What? Did you want to say goodbye or something?" Phantasma asked. "She'll be back tomorrow at sunrise."
"No...Eric and Daniel are the ones hosting this party. It's going to be out of control." Sybella panicked.
"Oh well. Nothing we can do but enjoy it." the edgiest of the girls, also known as Phantasma, replied.
"We're not going to enjoy it so much when Miss Grimwood comes back and freaks out at us because the place is destroyed." Tanis worried.
"That's not going to happen." Elsa assured. "If things get too out of hand, we can calm the party down. We're in charge when Miss Grimwood's gone, as far as I'm concerned."
"Yeah. Why worry about something that might not even happen?" Winnie agreed.
Sybella knew there was no "might" about it. Eric and Daniel would have this place in shambles in no time flat.
As Sybella feared, dozens of excited students began setting up the festivities and got ready to unwind, while the vampiress was wound up as tight as she possibly could be.
Several tables with drinks and party snacks were set up inside, along with one set up outside on the grounds of Grimwood's near the woods. Eric had brought in a gigantic boom box and had some music with an obnoxious amount of bass blaring.
Winnie and Elsa looked a bit cautious and stood over in the corner with their other three best friends. Tanis looked like she was about to explode, and Sybella was super uncomfortable. Phantasma had just gotten back from the snack and drink table and was dancing, though careful not to spill her food and drink. The phantom seemed to be the only one of the five enjoying herself. Worse yet, there was really no one else besides their group of friends that Sybella could talk to, because pretty much everyone else was being wild and crazy.
"This is a nightmare." Sybella said in a very worried voice.
"It's not so bad!" Phanty countered. "It's kinda fun to see everyone get loose like this. Look, someone's spiking the punch!"
Sure enough, Sybella looked over and saw Jonathan pouring a bottle of some sort of clear liquid into the bowl of fruit punch on the snack table.
"Is that alcohol?" Tanis whimpered, clearly overwhelmed with the situation.
"No, it's water!" Jonathan exclaimed. "Now, whenever someone tries to get a glass of punch, it'll be a little bland! Hahahaha!"
"THIS is alcohol!" Eric said, revealing a 24 pack of beer marked "Bud Heavy." He opened a can and immediately took a huge gulp of it. "Man, that's good. Tastes like ineptness, topped off with a hint of pressure for teenagers like me to do dumb crap to be seen as edgy in the eyes of my peers. That's the stuff."
"I don't like this, Sybella." Tanis whispered to the vampiress.
"I don't either. This has gone too far, guys. Either reel it back a couple notches or go somewhere else." Sybella demanded of the crowd.
"That's a great idea! Let's take this party outside!" Eric exclaimed.
"What's the matter, Sybella?" Sidney inquired.
"This is going way too far. You said it was just going to be peers talking. Not loud music, alcohol and teenage stupidity." Sybella said curtly to her witch friend.
"C'mon Sybella. Just loosen up a little. We've worked hard the whole time we've been at Grimwood's. We deserve a break just this one night. You don't have to drink if you don't want to, but just try to have a good time." Sidney pressured.
Sybella sighed and ignored the witch. Quite frankly, she was mad at Sidney. How dare she be complicit with Eric and Daniel in planning a wild party without their permission? Nonetheless, it seemed either everyone misinterpreted her command or just didn't care, so Sybella went outside.
"C'mon guys. Let's go make sure they don't blow up the place." Sybella sighed as she motioned for her friends to follow.
"I did that once!" Sidney smirked.
"Yes. Yes you did." Sybella rolled her eyes.
Unfortunately for Sybella, she saw the teenagers dancing all around the Grimwood's grounds, whooping, hollering and shouting. Many of them were drinking from the alcohol Eric had brought.
"Woah. This is some party!" Savana exclaimed, as the three S-girls from Yearbook arrived.
"Hell yeah! This party is bumpin'." Sam commented.
"Look guys! I'm drinking a stimulant and a depressant at the same time! My body is going to be so confused!" Jessica, a witch student remarked, alternating between a beer and her cup of coffee. "Awake, asleep. Awake, asleep. Awake, asleep."
"Yo, I've got coffee too, with soy milk. The funny part is, I'm not even lactose intolerant! Now, eventually the coffee shop will run out and someone who actually needs it will be slightly inconvenienced!" Sam smirked. "How degenerate of me!"
"That's horrible! You even know someone who's lactose intolerant! Our old teacher, remember? He'd be so disappointed in you!" Savana scolded her friend.
"Sorry, Mr. Scheeler!" Sami apologized.
"Hey everyone, I tied this guy's shoes together!" Eric exclaimed, as he oddly revealed that he had tied his own shoes together. "Now when he tries to walk, he's gonna be so mad!"
Eric took a few steps forward to get another beer, but quickly tripped and fell on his face.
"You stupid jerk, why would you do that?" Eric snarled at himself, as he punched himself in the face, knocking himself out.
"Clearly not the smartest egg in the basket." Sami rolled her eyes.
"Guys, stop!" Sybella shouted. "This may seem fun now, but there might be consequences when Miss Grimwood comes back if this gets too wild."
"What's gonna happen?" Gabriel, who was apparently also at the party, snapped.
Suddenly, one of the trees by the forest began to move its limbs! The gigantic oak grew a gnarled face, including hollow eyes and a snarly mouth.
Sybella looked up in horror. She'd walked past the woods hundreds of times and this had never happened before. The tree's mouth began moving and looked like it was going to speak.
"Ayyy, turn that fuckin' bass up!" the tree shouted, as it reached one of its tree branch arms out to the boombox on the table and cranked the volume knob as far as it would go.
"Well, that's one unexpected consequence." Winnie's eyes grew wide with surprise.
The tree then began wildly flailing its tree branches everywhere, shedding its leaves in the process.
"Oh my god, it's taking off its leaves!" Tanis replied in a shocked way.
Clearly not watching where it was dancing, the tree's branch smacked Sam and knocked her to the ground.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Sami exclaimed as Sam got up.
"Yeah. I saw visions of my life flash before my eyes!" Sam looked rattled.
"What'd you see?" Sami inquired.
"Myself." Sam said plainly, to which Savana looked surprised and amused.
"Woohoo!" Isaiah shouted.
"Hey everyone, Old Man Grimwood's got a catnip garden! Let's try to sniff it and see what happens!" Jack howled with excitement.
"Miss Grimwood is a woman." Sybella corrected.
"She is? I always thought that lady in the pink robe was like the maid or something." Jack replied, as several werewolves and cat creatures ran over to the catnip patch and began sniffing.
"This is such sleazy behavior." Tanis sighed. "I can't even imagine anything more wild than this."
"Hey, just be glad you aren't going to the college party over there. That really went off the rails." Isaiah pointed to a college aged werewolf.
"Hey everyone! I got my ministry license online, and I just married this horse and this sheep. The only problem is..." the college werewolf began tearing up, until he broke down sobbing. "They don't love each other anymore!"
"Oh god. How do I stop this?" Sybella began to panic.
"Oh, they'll get bored soon. We're teenagers. We have like no attention span." Sami responded.
"Hey, check out this tweet!" a werewolf shouted. He quickly revealed he was pointing towards a bird in the sky. "Pretty, isn't it?"
"Hell yeah! I retweet that shit!" George said in agreement.
"Did you guys see my latest story?" Jessica asked. With a momentary pause, she held up a book titled The Wizard of Oz. "It's about this girl from Kansas!"
"You all HAVE to see this TikTok!" Daniel exclaimed. When met with confused looks, he looked down at his watch. "Look at this. The hands move flawlessly as they tick and tock."
"Oh wow, look at this new vine!" Jack vaguely said, before calling attention to the Grimwood's garden. "This will for sure produce a butternut squash by summer."
"See what I mean?" Sami teased. "They're just trying to be cool by going against the norm, then they get bored."
"How are we ever going to clean this mess up by the time Miss Grimwood gets back?" Elsa sighed.
"Wait a minute…" Sybella thought. She quickly began picking beer bottles up off the ground, as well as snacks laying on the ground. "Alright guys, I'm ready to do some weird shit!"
"Oh my god, Sybella's snapped!" Tanis exclaimed.
"Look at this, instead of partying like a normal person, I'm going to CLEAN! Isn't that wild?" Sybella used reverse psychology.
"Hell yeah! Sybella's gettin' crazy!" Jack pointed.
"Yeah, society is always telling teenagers that they shouldn't enjoy cleaning!" Eric added. "Well, I'm gonna go against what society tells me and clean!"
"Let's get fucked up and cleaned up!" Daniel jumped in, as he grabbed a broom and began sweeping up all the snacks.
"I'm about to get really insane. Instead of staying out here and partying, I'm gonna head INSIDE and clean up the mess." Sybella furthered her charade, motioning her other four best friends to come with her.
"Guys, it's going to be sunrise in an hour!" Tanis hurried. "We better get this place spotless before Miss Grimwood gets back."
"We can do this!" Winnie motivated the rest of the girls. It was a long shot, but maybe...just maybe...they could somehow get the place cleaned up before Miss Grimwood got back.
With barely 20 minutes to spare, the ghouls were able to clean up the mess they had made from all the snacks at the party, and put the tables where the snacks and refreshments were back in their accustomed spaces. Miss Grimwood would never know...well, if they could get the party guests out of there before she came back.
"Alright guys, we're cleaned up. It's nearly sunrise and Miss Grimwood's coming back." Sybella warned. "We need to get these people out of here."
"Some of them have had too many as it is." Phantasma pointed to a few drunk students.
"Even the tree's had more than it should have." Winnie pointed to the dizzy looking tree holding a can of beer in its branch, who was telling a story to a few of the ghouls.
"So I'm at this Christmas Tree Lot talkin' to this fine pine. But then, she reveals she's got a balsam boyfriend! I said, honey, two's company, but tree's a crowd!" the tree began to laugh and burp.
"Hey! Haven't you had enough?" Sami put her hands on her hips, scolding the tree.
"Sorry." the tree said. Its face and hollow eyes slowly disappeared and began to look like a regular tree again.
"Time to get home, guys." Savana said. Sybella wasn't sure if she was talking to just Sami and Sam, or all of the tired ghouls.
"God, our parents don't even know we're here. It'll be a long walk home." Eric sighed, as he trudged towards the exit to Grimwood's with the black eye he'd given himself.
"Well, it's been a wild night, but we did it. Miss Grimwood will never know anything ever happened." Sybella sighed.
"Did you guys forget about Matches and Olly?" Winnie inquired, pointing at Grimwood's pet dragon and octopus butler standing at the school entrance with their jaws dropped.
"They can't tell Miss Grimwood anything. They can't talk, remember." Elsa chuckled.
"Wait a minute, she'll expect us to be sleeping! We've got to get to bed so we can at least get a few hours of rest." Phantasma pointed out.
"Oh gosh, you're right. And she'll be home any minute now!" Sybella exclaimed, as the ghouls prepared to dash in the school into their cozy beds. "Well, goodnight guys!"
A chorus of "goodnight's" could be heard. Agreeing to this party was a huge mistake, and Sybella vowed to never let herself be so pressured by peers again. This was a night none of them would ever forget.
Author's note:
Quite the silly chapter, wasn't it? I hope you enjoyed this little social commentary on parties haha.
Time for y'all to get referenced up!
Reference time:
- Miss Grimwood's conference being on Skull Island is a reference to there being three different Skull Islands over the course of the Scooby franchise: in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You's "Go Away Ghost Ship," and The Scooby-Doo Show's "Vampire Bats and Scaredy Cats" and "The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face."
- George and Jonathan prank calling A. Gorilla from the telephone book is a reference to Bart Simpson doing the same in The Simpsons episode "Sideshow Bob Roberts."
- Danny DeVito mentioning his favorite role was in a One Direction video references how he was in the real-life video for "Steal My Girl" (a One Direction song). I actually watched the video for the first time as research/fun when I wrote this chapter and he doesn't just make a cameo; he's literally the main star of the music video. Have to admit it was quite amusing watching him singing to a monkey in the video lol. If you ever are having a bad day, watch that video and it will instantly cheer you up watching Danny DeVito dance haha.
That's all for this time, party people, but feel free to drop me a review if you want to share your thoughts on the story thus far!
