Chapter 37 – Back to Genie

The Doctor had Rose pop him back so she could practice using her watch. As soon as they landed in the sitting room, Jake sprang up off the sofa. "Fucking hell! Don't do that to a man!"

They both laughed at him as they ran to Genie's bedroom. Pete held her with an icepack on her head. She whimpered quietly as he sang to her.

As soon as she saw Rose and the Doctor, she held her arms out and cried, "Daddy!" He took her in his arms and held her. "Sweetheart, it's alright. We're here."

He sat down quickly in the rocking chair with her in his lap. He put his hand on her cheek and kissed her head as he held her tightly. She calmed down almost immediately.

Pete looked surprised. Rose explained. "Genie is telepathic. She's just getting her abilities and it causes her head to hurt, badly. The Doctor and I are helping her develop them and the more you connect with someone, the less your head aches."

Pete was confused. "How is she telepathic? She's completely human. Isn't she?"

Rose shook her head. "We have no idea. The Doctor says she's a very powerful telepathic, though."

"Wow. Makes sense why Melissa sent her to you. I had wondered about that. She couldn't be in a better place." Pete told Rose.

He looked back to see the Doctor rocking Genie. He cradled her in his arms and kissed her on the forehead. She had feel asleep. He still had his hand on her cheek. "See, you're alright, little one. Sleep now."

Pete kissed Rose on the cheek. "I've got to pop back to New York, get my stuff. But, I'll be back in the morning for Jacks. Goodnight."

He smiled and waved at the Doctor as he disappeared.

Rose went over to Doctor and knelt down.

'I'm sorry our evening was cut short.' he told Rose in her head.

'It's been a crazy day. I'm glad we didn't tell these children we plan to go to Disney in the morning. It would have been worse. Is she alright?' Rose asked him.

He looked down at her. 'This one let that pain get to be nearly too much before she told anyone. It was really bad. I'm going to have to talk to her about that. She is going to make herself sick if she continues to do that. I'm glad Pete called us when he did.'

'Why would she do that?'

'Trying to be too strong.' he smiled. 'Just like her Daddy. I always did the same thing.'

Rose smiled at him. 'You still do.'

He chuckled. 'Yeah, I guess so. I couldn't put her completely to sleep, the pain was too bad. But, I'm blocking her pain center in her mind now. I'll probably have to put her in our bed tonight so she will sleep.'

'That's fine. Will you be able to sleep?' Rose asked him.

'I'm fine. I don't sleep that much. Don't worry about me. She needs to sleep more than I do.'

Rose watched him for a few moments.

'You're right. I can feel everything so much stronger now with this link.'

He looked at her and smiled. 'It's nice isn't it?'

'I can feel you sitting here. Like a presence.'

He looked at her. 'I can feel how full of love you are. Seeing me rocking a toddler. Go on and take a shower. I'll put her in the bed with us and you can sing to her while I shower. Would that be alright?'

Rose stood up and kissed him. 'Yes, Daddy. That would be fine.'

He smiled and repeated, 'Daddy.'

The Doctor climbed into bed with Rose and Genie. Genie was sleeping with Rose singing to her in her head. She had started to wiggle and whine a bit in the Doctor's absence. He was only gone for 12 minutes and 13.4 seconds by his count. As soon as he lay his hand on her cheek and starting blocking her pain, she calmed right down and went back to sleep.

Rose smiled at him. 'I'll have to get you to show me how to do that.'

He chuckled. 'I really do need to show you. It's a bit involved, so I won't do it tonight. It's insanely late, and you need your rest. I'll stay here with you both.'

Genie lay between them and slept.

'I miss you way over there.' Rose told him.

He smiled. 'I miss you way over there. This bed is huge! Come over here on the other side of me.'

Rose got up and walked to the other side of the bed. She was wearing her silk gown that he loved so much. He rolled over on his back and gathered Genie up in his arm and put his hand on her head. Rose lay on his chest as he wrapped his other arm around her.

'Two armfuls of women. I'm one lucky man, Rose.' he teased her.

'No, we are two lucky ladies.' she giggled at him.

He leaned down and kissed her. He smiled, 'You know, I've been thinking. I think I know who's coming through the Void.'

'Who?' she asked.

'Charles Dickens!' he laughed. She could feel how silly his mood was.

She raised up and looked at him. 'What in the hell?'

'Seriously, I've been thinking on it. That book he wrote here about us meeting him makes no sense. That happened in the other dimension. Either, we are going to do that again in the future, or the Charley is going to fall through the Void! It's him! That's it!'

Rose rolled her eyes and lay back down on his chest. 'I see your point. I find it encouraging that the TARDIS will be traveling again.'

'With the old team. Shiver and Shake!' he laughed. 'And Tony and Genie. Gosh, can you imagine the crazy football coach as a teenager? Traveling in the TARDIS? He's really going to love it. I don't think Genie will be too keen on it, honestly.'

Rose smiled, 'She'll come around. I imagine anywhere you are, she's going to be right with you.'

He looked over at her and smiled. 'Pete called her a Daddy's girl, tonight.'

Rose smiled. 'That she totally is. She has you wrapped around her finger. I imagine you would do anything for her.'

'If she has me wrapped around her finger, you've got me wrapped around one of yours. Oh, I'm sure. Go onto sleep. I'll stay here with you both.'

'Try to sleep.' Rose told him.

'Don't worry about me.' he told her.

The Doctor was back in the sandy floored barn. The Bad Wolf was standing in front of him with her hands on her hips. Her eyes glowed yellow as she glared at him.

He put his hands on his hips and glared back at her. "Well, what the hell is this about?" he demanded.

Her eyes returned to a normal color and she relaxed.

"So, you are married. Congratulations." she said.

"Oh, I know that's not why you are here. What's on your mind?"

"You and Rose are one. Rose and I are one. See my point?" the Bad Wolf asked.

"Oh! I didn't think about that. Interesting."

The Bad Wolf laughed. "Oh, this will be very interesting indeed! I'm surprised you didn't work that out before you made such a decision."

He rubbed his beard. "Oh, this could be very, very bad."

The Bad Wolf smiled. "Relax, Time Lord. You'll figure it out. Rose loves you too much for you to have made a huge mistake. This will be fine."

He put his hands on his hips and looked at her. "Yeah, it will have to be. I can't undo it now. Our bond is forever."

The Bad Wolf smiled. "Yes. It will be. It will be amazing."

He smiled, "Why are you here? I know this isn't the reason."

"I told you to be careful. Why didn't you listen to me?"

"Why? What's happened? Everyone is fine."

She shook her head and looked disappointed.

"I can only help you if you listen to me." she told him.

The Doctor woke up and heard his phone ringing.

'Rose, can you get that? I can't reach it with you two laying on me.' the Doctor asked in Rose's head.

Rose handed him his phone. It was Jake.

"Jake!" he answered quietly so he wouldn't disturb Genie. "Man, you're laying in the sitting room. Just come in here."

"Come out here. Just for a bit. Can you?" Jake asked him.

"Sure, mate." he said as he ended the call.

Rose could feel his emotions. 'What's wrong?'

'Something. Let me go see what it is. I'll be right back. Stay with Genie.' he told her.

'Nope! That's what you said right before you got shot. I'm not saying here. She's fine.' Rose said as she got up and put on her robe. He was already at the door with his robe on.

'Alright, woman. Fine.' he told her as he opened the door for her. They held hands as they walked down the hallway. Jake looked to be in complete shock and on the verge of tears.

"What's wrong?" the Doctor asked him.

"I just got the call. It's Pete. He went back to New York and his hotel room was bombed. Killed three guys. They have him at the hospital. It's bad. Howie is on his way there now. He wants me to wake Jackie and get her there. It's not good."

Rose held her hand to her mouth. The Doctor held her and kissed her head. "Rose, go wake your Mum and tell her to get dressed. We'll get you both there as soon as possible."

'Tony?' Rose asked.

'Let Jackie make that call. It's not my place.' he told her.

Rose walked down the hall to tell her mum.

The Doctor rubbed his face and called aloud, "Shakes. Lewis. Or whoever is on watch. Need someone in here."

Lewis opened the front door. "I'm here."

"There's been an accident -"

Lewis nodded. "Yes, sir. We just have been notified. What do you want us to do?"

The Doctor looked at Jake. "Do you need to go help with the investigation?"

Jake shook his head. "Howie asked me not to. He wants me to stay here with Jacob and your lot."

The Doctor nodded. "Quite right. Yes. Lewis. You, John and Shakes stay with Jake. High alert. Sam can help me take the Tyler ladies to the hospital."

Lewis nodded. "Yes, sir! He will be ready to go in ten minutes." He said as he closed the door.
