37 Blacktop Obsession

"Omg the air smells so much better than a hospital!" Kaidyn's eyes were bright with excitement to be out of the hospital and standing outside. It was the next morning they were getting ready for the long trip to Florida. "I am gonna miss California." She looked at Jesse. "I'll miss you too." She sighed, almost sadly.

"Hey, none of that. I am sure I will drive that way and can come visit sometime if I ever get in Dom's good graces again and they let us hang out again." Jesse said, grinning.

"Well if you two weren't always getting in trouble, maybe they'd let you hang out more.'" Vince interjected, making Kaidyn roll her eyes.

"You're just jealous you don't have as much fun as us." Kaidyn laughed, then turned serious. "Except for last time. I am sorry, Jesse. I hope you know I never meant for you to get hurt." She looked at him, feeling bad.

"Eh, it's okay, K." He said, giving her a hug. "Just try to stay on Shay's good side, I'll try to stay out of trouble then when I come visit you can show me around. Deal?" He asked with a grin. She nodded, shaking on it.

"Lets go, Blondie." Roman grabbed her bag and opened the door for her.

"We're riding in semis? Cool, I've always wanted to sit in one of these." She said, smiling as she walked to the front of the 18 wheeler.

"Back here, Babygirl." Tej nodded, motioning her towards the back of the semi. She looked at him questioningly.

"Why back here?" she asked, looking at the group.

"We ridin in the back so we can go undetected. We are meeting a bunch of other semis that look the same at the truck stop and we gonna lose anyone who's following with a scramble." Hector nodded.

"You sure that will work." Kaidyn asked, looking worried now that she knew they were still being followed.

"Yup, pulled off a scramble before and we can do it again. We got this handled." Tej assured her, his arms folded confidently.

"How long is this trip?" Dominic asked, Shayde still in the house, giving her a hug.

"36 to 40 hours." Shayde sighed, tired and not sure if she was ready to be in a semi for so long.

"How in the world are you gonna keep that girl entertained?" Dominic asked, concerned.

"I'm not." Shayde shrugged.

"What do you mean?" Dominic asked, grinning, knowing she had already figured this out.

"She and I aren't riding together because you know that's too much of a risk. But the boys are riding with her. Hector's riding with me. They can figure out how to entertain her." Shayde laughed.

"You sure you don't want me to go with you guys now? I feel kinda guilty not going." he admitted.

"We'll be fine. Besides when she gets bored of being cooped up in the house, you guys visiting will help so it will be helpful in the long run." Shayde smiled, giving him a hug. "Quit worrying your pretty bald head, we'll be fine." She promised.

"You better be." Dominic nodded. "I'm gonna miss you guys." He said, giving her a hug.

"You're gonna miss her craziness? Really? You sure about that?" Shayde asked, laughing.

"You know I will." Dominic laughed. They both walked outside, joining the group.

"How we splitting up?" Roman asked as Shayde walked out.

"Well, you guys are gonna ride with Kaidyn and I am riding with Hector." She said, ignoring Brian's stare.

"You're not riding with me, Shay?" Kaidyn asked, looking disappointed.

"You know we don't ride together when we travel, silly girl." Shayde playfully bopped her nose, getting an annoyed frown from her.

"We'll have fun, don't worry, Blondie." Roman said, putting his arm around Kaidyn and grinning.

"Cool, let's do this." Tej pulled up the door to the Semi.

"Where's our cars?" Kaidyn asked, confused. "Thought we were riding down with the cars in the back?" She asked, clearly confused.

"They'll be in the trucks we switch too." Brian explained, throwing his bag up in the semi.

"Have fun and behave Kaidyn." Dominic gave her a hug and a look. She nodded.

"I'm gonna miss you guys. Promise you will come see me?" She asked as he gave her a big hug.

"We'll see if you behave and stay outta trouble." Dominic grinned, trying to help Shayde out as always. Kaidyn didn't let go of his neck.

"You better come see me." She said, tears in her eyes, not wanting to leave all of a sudden.

"Then you better behave." Dominic said, hoisting her up and putting her in the back of the semi.

"Hey I thought you said the cars…" Kaidyn looked at the cars, confused.

"Shhhh, not right now babygirl." Tej faced her, putting a finger to her lips and hushing her. He pointed to his ears and outside. "Just in case." he said, glad to see she understood.

"So, what are we gonna do for this whole trip?" Kaidyn asked, looking around. "There's no windows in here." She sighed, feeling very antsy for some reason. She began to pace. "What if we get in a wreck?" She asked.

"We'll protect you." Tej promised with a confident nod.

"Yeah, we got you, babe." Roman nodded with a grin, holding out his arms and raising a convincing eyebrow.

"Man, do you always gotta add on to what I gotta say?" Tej asked, punching Roman playfully.

"You better find some way to keep her occupied, cuz." Brian looked at Tej and Roman, shaking his head with a sly grin, whispering to where she couldn't hear them.

"Shay, call me if you need anything and keep me posted on how it's goin." Dominic helped Shayde up in the truck, looking at her.

"You know I will. Care to take bets on how long it takes before someone wants out of that truck with her?" Shayde asked, grinning.

"Two hours tops." Dominic laughed.
"Yeah, I have to agree. Maybe an hour and a half. No ADD meds for her until we get her off the pain meds." Shayde laughed, knowing the boys were in for a very long ride.

"Hector, thanks again for all you did for them." Dominic said, nodding.

"No problem. You know I always got their backs and yours too, Holmes." he nodded. He got in and Dominic shut the door. "Checking in, Bullet, can you hear me?" Hector asked in his walkie talkie,

"Yup, I hear you. Let's do this" He replied back as they took off towards their first stop. Hector had set up a bunch of the same exact semis in the same company to meet up at the Truck Stop and they were going to pull in the midst of the trucks and take off, losing anyone who may be trailing them.

"Oh walkie talkies!" Kaidyn's eyes lit up, happy she could talk to her sister after all. She got up to head for Brian's walkie talkie. Tej reached out and grabbed her, pulling her in his lap.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down, homegirl." He laughed, moving a piece of hair out of her face. "We can't be on those just in case they pick up on the frequency." He said, trying to distract her.

"Tej, whatcha doing? Let me go." Kaidyn giggled, trying to get up.

"I'm protectin you, Baby. Just like I said I would." He shrugged with a laugh. "Why don't you settle back for the ride and get some rest?" he asked, stroking her hair, feeling her relax a bit. He leaned back against the wall and outstretched his legs, holding her in his arms and between his legs.

"I think Roman's afraid of enclosed spaces." Kaidyn whispered to Tej, watching Roman pace.

"Mhmm, I think you are right." Tej grinned.

"You think he'll be okay?" She asked, laying her head on his chest. She loved the smell of his cologne.

"Babygirl, I'm not sure if Roman is ever alright." Tej confessed, making Kaidyn giggle.

"I give him an hour before he starts complaining he's hungry." Kaidyn wagered.

"30 minutes, tops." Tej said, resting his head on top of Kaidyn's. She grabbed his arms and wrapped them around her and sighed contentedly.

"Yeah." He grinned, holding her tightly.
