This is a very short one, but very fluffy. Thanks to my reviewers Adora and Lovely Hydrangea for both requesting a stargazing fic. Hope this does it justice!

The Starry Night

Julie couldn't sleep, so she padded down to the studio to see if any of the boys were awake to keep her company. She found Luke outside, looking up at the sky from the asphalt outside.

"Hey," she said softly, trying not to disturb him.

"Couldn't sleep?" he asked, when he noticed she was there.

"Nah, stuff just running around in my brain and I couldn't get it to shut down. What are you up to?"

"Just looking at the sky. Haven't done that in a while, life's felt so busy since we stopped being, well, dead, I haven't had a chance to just slow down and breathe much, ya know?"

"Mmhm. Trust me it's been a roller coaster of a time for me, too. But this is no place to look at the stars, come on." She reached down and grabbed his hand, feeling the unique cold-warm feeling she got every time she touched him, paired with a rush of butterflies in her stomach. She ignored it and pulled him to his feet. He didn't protest as she led him out of the backyard and down the street.

A couple blocks away there was a big open park where a lot of kids played sports, but Julie led him up a short hill off to one side of the fields and behind a small playground. She then abruptly sat down and patted the grass to her left.

Luke carefully inspected for any dog poop (he was scarred from an event in the early 90's that he still didn't like thinking about) and then sat down next to her.

"Why this place?" he asked as they both lay down on their backs and looked up at the stars.

"It's the most wide-open space nearby so you can get the biggest view of the sky," she said, and then paused. "Plus sometimes my mom would take me here, to talk when I was having a hard time," she said finally.

Luke reached over and held her hand. "I'm sorry. Are you sure this is okay, I don't want to make you bring up hard emotions if you don't want that tonight."

He heard rather than saw Julie shake her head, her hair rustling the grass around her. "No, this feels like… honoring her, and her parenting style, if that makes sense? Especially because I think she would have really liked you guys a lot and would have done this with you, too, if she was here. So, it feels like passing on the magic of getting to feel all zen or whatever for a little while."

"That makes sense," he said, giving her hand a little squeeze. "My mom never did stuff like that with me. She was always nagging me to do my homework and yelling at me about the chores. But now I sort of wish… I don't know I wish I knew what it was like to be her son if I was more responsible and actually did those things. Would she still have found stuff to pick on me about or would we have been closer?"

Julie didn't know what to say to that, but she laced her fingers between his and scooted a little closer to him so their shoulders were touching. They lapsed into silence for a little while, but then Julie asked, "Do you know any of the constellations?"

"Just the big dipper, over there," Luke said, pointing.

"I just know Orion's belt," Julie answered, showing him the three stars in a line. They chatted about more mundane things for a little while, until Julie had to stifle a yawn.

"Hmm, maybe this has helped me wind down enough that I'm ready to go to bed," she said.

"That's fair, it's pretty late," Luke commented, and then sat up. They slowly got to their feet, jokingly groaning because their limbs had gotten a little stiff.

"You've got a…" Luke started, and reached over to pull a leaf out of Julie's hair. Their close proximity and the direct physical contact sent sparks shooting up his arm, and he couldn't resist stepping a little closer. Julie self-consciously brushed her hair down, realizing it probably looked crazy after laying in the grass.

"Is it gone now?" she asked, a little anxiously.

"Yeah, you look great." Luke paused. "Thanks Julie, thanks for tonight," he said, reaching out to hold her hand again. He could get used to how easy it felt to hold her hand.

She finally noticed how close he was standing, and her breath caught as their eyes locked on each other. A gentle breeze was blowing Luke's longish hair around just slightly and his eyes sparkled with joy in the moonlight.

He smiled at her, tentatively, and leaned in. She met him halfway and the kiss was magical. The smell of recently mowed grass lingered about him and her hands tangled in his hair as she leaned into his body. He didn't tower over her, but he was just enough taller than her that she had to stand on her tiptoes to properly kiss him. He held her tightly to him, though, and it wasn't difficult with his arms supporting her. Their tongues tangled for a brief moment, and then Luke stepped back.

They were both blushing intensely, but grinning widely. "Should we, uh, get you to bed?" Luke asked timidly. Julie nodded and grabbed his hand again, holding it all the way back to her house.
