Epilogue
"Profes-I mean...Byl...no...Your Highness." Byleth looked up from Ferdinand and Dorothea's proposal to use resources to help sustain farmland in the frigid north. Hubert approached him clutching onto an envelope. He blew a bit of hair out of his face, which had mysteriously turned back to the bluish color he once had a year ago.
"I believe that this belongs to you."
"Another message?" Edelgard's face grimaced at the thought. "Sheesh, preparing this world for a transition has been harder than expected."
"Nobody said that change would be swift, your Majesty." Hubert bowed to her. "However you should focus on what you have managed to do in this time; Peaceful negotiations with Claude have left us and Almayra on good terms. Caspar's marriage to Petra has put all tensions between Brigid Rebels and ourselves to rest. Linhardt's Crest Removal experiments were a success and have returned yours and Lady Lysithea's lifespans to normal. And, most importantly, Felix and Annette's reasonable requests have eased most of the tension done in the former Kingdom's ruins. As for myself and Bernadetta…"
"Okay, okay, we get it." Edelgard replied, waving her hand. "What are the requests for this time? More resources for irrigation?"
"Quite the Contrary." Hubert replied, "Your highness, this envelope was handed to me by a young boy with spiky brown hair...he looked a bit like an angel. His request was that this be opened by you, and he wants confirmation as soon as possible. He said you must simply right Yes or No on the document attached."
Byleth's eyes narrowed as he took the envelope from hubert. It was a simple white envelope with a red seal showing a weirdly positioned striped ball. He opened the envelope and took out a scroll. Yes, an actual scroll from an entirely flat envelope. Ignoring the weirdness he unrolled it and read it aloud.
To the Progenitor God/Ashen Demon: Byleth Eisner
Congratulations! You have been specially selected to appear in the fifth generation of our special fighting tournament known as the Super Smash Brother. Your strength and power is exactly what we have been looking for to add a unique spice to our massive roster of Swordsmen.
Of course, you must be notified of certain...rules we have. By agreeing to come to this tournament, a contract must be signed making sure you abide by the rules of these tournaments.
"They have Rules?" Edelgard snorted. "Didn't Moon say that these were all legendary people or animals with extraordinary powers, gods, and god slayers alike?"
"Annette did mention that some people and animals in this tournament are nothing more regular people or animals using strange objects and items of ridiculous power for these tournaments." Byleth corrected. "I don't know exactly how a fitness trainer and a dog and a duck duo count as legends...but whatever floats their boats I guess." He looked back down at an...unusually weird long list of rules for a fighting tournament.
List of all actual powers, abilities and weapons must be submitted. No surprises.
No Time Travel Manipulation (Ability to slow down time is permitted though)
No actual killing (This isn't a death match)
No Immortality
Weapons must meet length requirements (Scale downs may be necessary)
No using outside help. Guests are allowed, but coaching is not. (Internal beings such as alter ego's, goddess links, Personas are permitted at very weak forms).
Item registration must be subjected to cool down should you wish to use an item as a part of your moveset (your signature weapons do not count)
Lastly, and most importantly, your name must be placed on a list and granted permission to be summoned at my(our) request at any given time. No excuses permitted.
We expect your answer soon, if you wish to participate, please write Yes on the invitation, if you cannot attend this year please write no, and a valid reason.
Yours truly,
Palutena Icarus*
*Order given by Council members Mario Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus Aran, Yoshi, Fox McCloud, Kirby, Pikachu, Luigi Mario, Ness, Douglass Jay (Captain) Falcon, & Jigglypuff
"All names accounted for." Edelgard sighed as Byleth looked up from the letter. Those were the 12 Hero's of legend that would make up the popular category of legends passed down through our times."
"Palutena Icarus." Byleth had a heart attack as Sothis spoke to him, returning to being a form in his mind now that his duty given by her was done. "I see she has not changed a bit."
"You're familiar?" He asked
"I had an accomplice in someone named Virdi when I became aware of the Multiverse's existence centuries prior, maybe if you ever tapped into my memories you would've seen that. I advise you to be extremely cautious dealing with her, she can be...as Moon described, trouble."
Byleth sighed as he shook his head back to reality, looking at Edelgard and Hubert.
"Wel, your highness, are you going to accept?" Hubert asked.
"He doesn't really get a choice." Edelgard replied, Byleth could hear the bitterness in her voice. "Until Moon returns to overthrow her, whoever she is, we have to pretend none of those events ever happened. Otherwise, we may not see each other again."
"Well, if we're going to be forced to fork over His highness to participate in these tournaments, we might as well try to WIN them." Hubert pondered on the thought. "They already laid out a list of rules. Sending you in there with just the Sword of the Creator and a bit of magic with Sothis' help would seem unreasonable. If you were to be matched with...let's just say...a projectile focused person such as Link."
"Hah, your former students clearly are as stupid as I would've thought." Byleth growled a little.
"Oh calm down, well, If we want to be diverse, why not take three of the Relics, specifically Failnaught, Areadbhar, and Aymr."
"I'll take some of the relics." Byleth said. Looking to his wife for approval. "Specifically I'm going to request Areadbhar, Aymr, and Failnaught."
"Not a bad idea." Hubert acknowledged, giving Edelgard a sort of approving smile. "They did mention that they have an onslaught of sword fighters, I'd imagine that might lessen any controversial backlash amongst our inclusion."
"Very well, I shall send a request to Claude, requesting for the bow, and of course you can take the other relics."
Moon and Sapphire stepped out of the orange portal and into the grand hallway of Palutena's temple. There were a few cracks in the hallways, and it didn't take long for Sapphire to shout
"What the everloving fuck is that?!" He pointed towards a man made of a blocky structure. He was wearing a blue shirt and pants. And he was rectangular, all stiff.
"Ah, that's just Minecraft Steve, he's new here." Moon rubbed the back of his head. "How's it going Steve?"
The blocky man just stared at them. Then, he did two shifts up and down.
"Is that supposed to be a smile?" Sapphire asked
"Nope, that's a beard." Moon replied. "And, it looks like he's doing fine. Just, stop breaking stuff please, otherwise, I'll have to confiscate your resources every time you come here."
Sapphire followed him down the hall, where they pushed into a grand room. As literally everyone turned their heads towards them.
"Guess who's back, back again?!" Moon snarled, Sapphire noted his deathly glare, almost as if he was dating anyone to speak up.
Just a dead, eerie silence swept over the room as everyone quickly looked between him, and Palutena.
Ness eventually broke the silence as he walked up to him and gave Moon a hug. "I'm glad you made it back." The boy said calmly. "I...honestly don't know if we could've dealt with Sarah if you didn't. She's...resting in the medbay area. You can go see her."
Moon nodded his head in Ness' direction. Then turned his attention back to the green haired goddess.
"Under any normal circumstance, I would have you removed from this Multiverse entirely for the stunt you tried to pull." Moon's voice was dead. "Unfortunately, you thought of that already."
"Did you bring someone from Gladio here-"
"Don't even try to deflect blame." Moon snarled at her. "Your little stunt not only jeopardized a timeline, but also inadvertently led to the death of one of my closest friends. You knew, full well what COULD have happened. Yet, you chose to ignore it."
"Are you sure now is a good time?" Sapphire whispered to him. "Maybe you should go see Sarah."
"Now, given your several crimes, I should be convicting you in an unfair and rigged trial to ensure you learn your lesson."
"That's-a treason!"
"Can it you fat plumber fuck." Moon snarled. "Now, if you want me to...forget...that this ever happened, then, I'll need you to look into a World called Remnant, and I'll need you to establish a connection so that Sarah, Erick, Sapphire, and myself can go. In that world, there is a woman named Salem, and she must be stopped herself. She has connections to Giygas."
"I'll do no such thing, especially for a freak like you-"
Sapphire chucked a hand axe at her. The goddess ducked under as the axe lodged into the back of the chair.
"He's not a freak." The blue haired boy said calmly. "He's a friend, and a good person. If you need a third-party account, then I'll be that account."
"That's...hardly necessary." Ness said. "Moon essentially is the council. He doesn't...really...need any of this."
"So...democracy is an illusion?"
"Basically." Akira Starr spoke up.
Moon simply took out a notecard and said it across the table to the green haired goddess. "Talk it over," he said. "Let me know when you've...understood."
Sapphire followed his friend out of the room. Moon exited out of the room and into another, where they found Erick, Sarah, and Astro.
Sapphire noticed that Sarah's face was pale. But it had slowly returned to color. Both of Moon's remaining friends looked up and smiled. Sarah shot out of bed and flung her arms around Moon.
"You-You're okay." She whispered, rubbing her hand against his head. She took a moment to separate and her face somewhat fell at his looks. Her hand brushed through the hair covering his silver eye, revealing a large triple scar from Thunderbrand and her breath hitched.
"You...Um…" she said. "Moon?!"
Moon blinked as he looked down at her. It was only now that Sapphire realized he had not returned the hug back to her. Instead, his eyes looked a bit...hesitant.
"I'm...I'm happy...to see you again." Moon replied. "I-I know I...don't look ideal."
"No...it's okay…" Sarah replied, giving him a smile. "You...um...we can just cover it up…"
Erick was holding onto Astro as he looked at Sapphire, almost with a questioning look that the blue-haired boy couldn't quite read.
"Moon...are you…okay?" Sarah asked. She tightened her hug around him.
Moon broke out of her and simply turned away. "I'm fine, Sarah." He said calmly. "Now, we've got work to do. Salem is now our target, and she must be stopped at all costs."
Moon turned and left the room, leaving Sarah and Erick in a state of shock.
"Give...give him...time." Sapphire said, looking at Sarah. "He'll come back to you, I promise."
Sarah could only watch as her boyfriend walked out the door. It wasn't just looks that had changed in Moon's time away from her. Something...different...seemed to follow him this time. Giving him space seemed like...well...the last thing she should be doing.
Erick placed a hand on her shoulder, seeing her nervous look towards the door where Moon had left them. "You both took a hard hit here." the genius said calmly. "But, we know he still loves you. He would've given up otherwise."
Sapphire walked up to the two of them and simply bowed towards them. "Sapphire von Clypeus, at your service." he said calmly. "I know I can't exactly...make up for where Dyson once was. However, I hope you will allow me to extend the services I provided to your friend, to you as well."
Sarah gave him a reluctant nod before looking back towards the door. Leaving Erick and the Shield of Adrestian Empire to just look at each other awkwardly.
"You...don't need to be a servant." Erik said calmly, rubbing the back of his head. "But...I suppose you'll be much more useful. Because wherever the hell this Remnant world is, Moon and Sarah could be walking in as freaking deities, so until we know how much a human, if there are any, can take from us. You and I might be our only line of defense."
"I'll do whatever I can," Sapphire replied. "I'll fight for my friends."
"That's hopeful." Erick replied, rubbing his head. "Because at this point, friends might be a scarce few."
