Chapter 38: The Discovery
Kevin's PoV:
It's a few hours after dinner. Marv and I finish eating, and I help clean up. It's something my Mom always wanted my siblings and I to help with. So, I thought I'd best do it, while I'm with Marv. After all, he's already threatened me earlier with the same tricks I played on him and Harry last year.
Now that it's later in the evening, Marv suggests we watch something together. As much as I love family movie nights, there's something about this that just doesn't sit right with me… I'm afraid Marv's going to make sure I'm handcuffed to him or something, but I'm proven wrong, when he plugs in a movie, and has me sit on the couch beside him, unattached to him.
The movie of Marv's choice is City Slickers. He's adamant on it, and he tells me, "You're not gonna believe this, Kev… There's actually someone, who looks like me, in this, and it only came out this past year,"
The movie box is sitting on the coffee table. I didn't get a chance to look at it before, but I do now. While Marv is fastforwarding through the previews, I look at the box, and I realize, he wasn't joking; one of the guys on the back of the box looks identical to Marv.
I question, "Marv, are you sure this isn't you, in this movie?"
"Positive. It's actually my twin brother," I widen my eyes, believing him for a moment, before realizing that he has to be joking with me.
"He could be, just by looking at him,"
"No, I'm serious; he's my twin brother," He still speaks in a joking voice, but he becomes a bit more firm.
"What's his name?" I ask, looking at the front of the box, seeing the names: Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, and Bruno Kirby.
"He goes by 'Daniel Stern', but his real name is 'Daniel Merchants'. He didn't really explain why he chose 'Stern', but I guess it's worked out for him," I continue looking at Marv, curiously, hoping he'll finish. Before he continues, he pauses the movie from fastforwarding. "I've never said anything about him, because our Mother and I don't really exist, to him. He's too much into Hollywood, to even care about us. Though, he cares about Mom more than he does me. He gives her money, which is the money used, so I'm able to have this house, if I'm ever needing to get away from Harry. He can be a real handful, sometimes."
"If she has so much money, why doesn't she give you any?" I ask. "That way, you wouldn't have to rob anybody,"
"She has, but Harry always wants more. Unfortunately, even though I'm not as bad as him, I want more, too,"
"I still can't believe it…" I look down at the movie box, feeling shocked at this sudden news. "You have a twin brother,"
"Harry and your Mother are the only other ones, who know. I don't really have any other friends. I wasn't exactly popular in school, but he was. Though, as time went on, people stopped knowing we were related. I'm mistaken for him sometimes, but I don't go out enough to receive that kinda attention, considering how he and I took vastly different paths in life." It doesn't hit me, until now… I have an Uncle, who's a celebrity! My family and I are already well-off, but still… There's a celebrity in the family!
"So, I have an Uncle Daniel?"
"Yes… Yes, you do," Marv hits "Fastforward" on the remote, and it's almost time for the movie to start. I still can't believe this sudden news. Was Marv making that up, just to make himself feel better about himself, or is he actually being truthful? Who knows with him? He's a criminal, after all, and how truthful can criminals be? "Well, the movie's starting now." he announces, but he doesn't seem as excited as he did before. I guess bringing up the story of his brother was hard for him. There has to be something else I can find out about this guy. After all, not only have I found out a couple days ago who my real Father is, but I've also discovered I have another Uncle… Something about this feels strange to me. I feel like I must expand on this further. But first, a movie, which has my supposed blood relative, in it…

A/N: Hi, folks! My apologies for the month-long update delay, but I've been preoccupied with the thing I mentioned in my last Author's Note. ;) I hoped I wouldn't take this long to update, but alas, here we are… Anyway, I'm sorry if this chapter is so short. To be honest, I didn't think I was going this direction with the chapter. I had to reread the last Kevin/Marv chapter I wrote, so I knew what I was doing. I was originally planning on writing a boring bonding chapter, but I started thinking about City Slickers, and I think I can work with involving Marv's twin brother, somehow. Though, we'll have to wait for that, especially since it's a Kate chapter next. I have no idea when I'll update again, because I'm going back to reading the thing I'm into right now (take a guess at what it is ;)). I hope the next chapter is better (for both Kate's chapter, and Kevin and Marv's chapter)! Again, I'm sorry this story isn't what it should be! I still aim to finish this story, though.
