Just as Gin was about to pull the trigger he noticed something falling from above him, small metal pieces seeming to move in slow motion. He had just enough time to retract his arm and step to the side before the object from the ceiling collided with the portable light stand, sending it crashing to ground and breaking every bulb and sending them all into darkness.
"What the-? What happened?" Gin demanded as he tried to figure out what was going on.
"The lights?" Vodka said but his voice came from a different area of the warehouse than he had been in a second ago.
"Kir! Bourbon! Don't move!" Gin snapped, aiming his gun at where they had been. He wasn't able to see much of anything, not more than vague shadows, but if he saw anything suspicious he was going to shoot first and question things later.
Light appeared from the right of the two and glancing over he saw Vermouth illuminated by her phone before she turned on the flashlight and aimed it at tied up liaisons, although he noticed that she was staring at her phone confused for a moment before she began to text on it.
However he was more focused on the fact that there was only one liaison still tied up to the beam.
Kir was now alone at the beam sitting there looking almost lifeless, her eyes glazed over in a way he knew well and he internally swore at that. He had tried to avoid triggering her so badly but it looks like it didn't work. Spotting Vodka scrambling up from a few inches away from Kir and rushing to her side again he realized what she had done. Just as he was about to shoot before the object fell and broke the lights Kir had used her legs to kick Vodka away so that he wouldn't be shot if she was.
She had thought she was going to die and her action was to save her boyfriend.
"Bourbon's gone! He ran away!" Vermouth exclaimed as if they couldn't see it for themselves and as far as Gin cared that meant that the blond bastard was marked.
Approaching the unresponsive Kir with a frown Gin felt a twinge of pain. She wasn't a traitor. She was hadn't given in and was still herself. No mind control. She hadn't sold out Bourbon or anyone else, hadn't tried to bargain or beg for her life. The only she had done was save her boyfriends life if Gin had shot her.
She was clean and remained herself. However Kudo knew about Rum it didn't come from Kir. Gin regretted that he triggered her and put her through all of this and his only mercy was that it was for a minute and not hours like she had suffered from years ago when she was tortured. Sure he was still hurt by the things she said, blaming him for her fathers and Akemi's deaths…but given what he had done to her he could forgive it. He already blamed himself after all.
"Damn it how? Demi respond love. Look at me." Vodka was trying to gently bring her back around to responsiveness even as he wondered how Bourbon had caused that and then gotten away in the brief seconds before Vermouth turned on her flashlight.
Gin would love to know how the bastard pulled it off too. He lifted the picked handcuffs before there was a flood of light from the door and Gin's head whipped around.
"After him!" Gin ordered, the rat wasn't getting away from him that easy.
"Chase him yourself!" Vodka snapped at him before turning his attention back to his girlfriend.
"Demi love it's okay. It's alright. I'm here." Vodka said softly as Kir slowly started coming back around, immediately tensing and eyeing Gin warily which hurt as well but he couldn't blame her for.
Vermouth had moved as if to chase after Bourbon but was stopped by her phone buzzing which she stopped to answer. Gin ignored her and swore to hunt down Bourbon later himself, although he wondered about Vermouth being on her phone so much recently and the look on her face at one of the messages. He had never seen her look so confused and shocked before even if he wasn't fully paying attention.
"I'm sorry Kir." Gin's voice was sincere as he moved, and it hurt seeing her and Vodka both tense, to set his gun down and withdraw the keys from his coat pocket.
"You didn't deserve that, but I didn't know how else to test you. I'm happy to say you passed and are no longer under suspicion." Gin said as he unlocked her cuffs and helped her up, mindful of her injured still-bleeding shoulder.
As soon as she was standing on her own though she glared at him and that was the only warning he had.
Crack!
"Wow. I think you broke his nose." Vodka said and even Vermouth glanced over looking impressed as Gin's head was rocked back and his nose started bleeding hard.
"You deserved that!" Kir said and her voice was shaky and a bit hysterical sounding.
"I did." Gin agreed calmly even as he tried to pinch his nose to stop the bleeding.
"I should hit you again!" Kir snarled at him and her eyes were jerky and Vodka was rubbing her back, carefully making sure that she could see him next to her and knew he was the one touching her.
"You should." She should. She really should. After all she had been right. She wasn't a traitor, his judgement was clouded and he was to blame for the death of her father and Akemi and god he had even shot and triggered her. He deserved worse than being punched.
"Stop agreeing with me! For gods sake I was starting to relapse because of your little joke." Kir spat at him and he noticed she was more scared and jerky than actually angry.
"It wasn't a joke and it gave me no pleasure to do that to you." Gin said wincing and upset that he had triggered her.
"Could have fooled me. You were near salivating at getting to kill one of us and ignored most of the stuff I yelled to make you actually stop and think about what you were doing! I don't blame Bourbon for chickening out and deciding to run rather than deal with you." Kir said and yeah she had a point there and that's when Vermouth chimed in about how Rum just got a text from Curacao's phone about Bourbon and Kir being cleared of being NOCs.
That threw everyone off until Gin checked his own phone and read the message Sherry had sent him about Kudo having Curacao's phone and the messages from it now were from him.
But if that were the case and the FBI, and Grey Goose, were now involved then the object that fell from the ceiling…
"Bourbon I know you're still here! Come out of hiding now and I promise I won't shoot you!" Gin called out to the warehouse at large while Kir was nearly boneless in Vodka's arms.
"He actually turned on the safety and put his gun away for all the good that means for us." Kir said dryly and sounding a lot like Sherry right then as she balled one hand in Vodka's shirt while her other hand was on her stomach.
"Fuck all of you!" Bourbon shouted as he popped out of hiding looking irritated and mad at Gin, looking just as pissed as Kir was.
"Well…you didn't actually run away or stay hiding to run later. That means you pass the test too." Gin said raising an eyebrow at Bourbon coming out from behind the boxes.
"Test? I do?" Bourbon asked looking baffled now since this was the first he heard of it.
"Gin what test are you talking about?" Vermouth demanded not looking happy either and his gaze flickered to her and narrowed as he considered how she reacted but couldn't say anything. After all Vodka had reacted even worse and therefore more suspiciously than she had.
"I lied. Curacao didn't name either of you as traitors in her text to Rum, but we did discover other things could have compromised the MiB and could be linked to either of you and add in your weird behavior, especially you Kir, it alarmed me into making quickly making sure you were both legitimate before anything else could happen." It wasn't the whole truth, he or Vodka would tell Kir at the least the entire truth later but he didn't want to say it now. Not in front of Vermouth.
"I mean I understand that a bit given that I ignored a priority One Alpha order from you in my pursuit of Akai but what kind of weird behavior was there from Kir?" Bourbon asked baffled since aside from being happier than normal in the last few weeks and being especially savage during the interrogation he hadn't noticed anything off about her.
"Ah…you weren't there…after we rescued her from the FBI when she had her coma she was acting strange, depressive almost…and suddenly was extremely work focused and locking herself away in the File room for hours without anyone seeming to know what she was doings. Then after being like that for several months, just last month she became happier than normal and overly cautious and paranoid of things around her but still locking herself in the file room." Gin said staring at Kir now who glared darkly at him for that.
"I told Vodka, and I know he told you, that I had found out something while in the hospital and it had hurt me badly!" Kir said making Gin nod his head slightly.
"You did but since you refused to elaborate further or say anything else about it…pair that with your behavior…" Gin trailed off and Kir gave him a furious glare. Her words making all of their eyes widen and they stared at her in shock and various degrees of horror.
"I didn't realize that grieving over and not wanting to talk about a miscarriage was a crime!"
