It had been a little over two weeks since Kai or anyone had seen Wendy anywhere near the apartment. The day after she had called round, Nya tried to tell Kai she was trying to help, but Kai quickly reassured her, saying he knew that but he also knew Wendy could turn up at any time and he felt like he would never be free of her or Morro so he had to leave. At that moment, Jay had appeared and announced that the landlord had let them out of their lease.
Not only that, but he had also paid back Jay's security deposit and gave them a month's notice.
Now they had enough cash to up sticks and go wherever they wanted without waiting for the baby to be born. Kai was delighted by the news. Nya, not so much. She couldn't bear the thought of losing Kai, but Skylor reminded her that Kai was doing what was right for him. Although Nya insisted what was right was for Morro to die in prison and Wendy to disappear off the face of the Earth. Despite that, Nya understood that her resentment meant for the baby and Morro wasn't good for Kai, so she told her brother she was on his side even if she didn't always show it.
Kai was sure if she meant those words or not.
When he confronted her about this, she admitted that she believed Kai was letting Morro dictate his life from prison and the others were helping him. Kai hated that Nya kept bringing up Morro and told his sister that if anyone was letting Morro dictate things, it was her. Kai thought things were going well when Jay informed them that he'd put a deposit down on a little cottage in Jamanakai Village. He showed Kai some pictures and it was perfect.
It had enough room for all four of them and the baby and was located in a nice neighborhood with promising schools nearby.
For Kai, it was almost too good to be true. He was quickly proven right a few moments later. Almost as soon as Jay broke the news, Skylor had appeared with a letter from Wendy. Although Kai wanted to burn it, Jay insisted they should see what Wendy had to say, and instantly regretted it. They read Wendy's letter, informing Kai that Morro was going to demand a DNA test when the baby was born. When Cole asked if Morro could do that, Zane informed them that Kai didn't have to listen to it.
That is unless Wendy kept her word and took them to court for custody.
They could easily issue a no-contact order so Morro couldn't message Kai again, but stopping Wendy would be more tricky. They could give her a restraining order, but Zane told them that could take months. To try and take Kai's mind off all this stress, his three secret agent boyfriends decided to take him out on a date to the cafe around the corner. It had become the group's regular hangout over the last few weeks, and Kai would be sorry to leave it when they moved.
Kai breathed a happy sigh as he sipped his hot cocoa and glanced down at his belly.
He now had a small, yet noticeable baby bump that he almost always kept hidden under a baggy shirt. As the four boyfriends talked and laughed, they noticed someone walking towards them. They looked up and glared when they saw Wendy approaching them. Not missing a beat, Cole instantly shot up from his seat and got in between her and Kai.
"Get out!" His voice boomed across the cafe, startling a few of the customers.
"Not until you've heard what I've got to say!" She argued. Quickly realizing that she wasn't leaving, the three men walked out of the cafe and all but ran for the apartment, with Wendy hot on their tail. "Can we just talk?!"
"Get him inside Jay!" Zane ordered and Jay nodded, but for some reason, he couldn't find his keys as Cole and Zane blocked Wendy's path.
"I know Kai's got his version of what happened but there's another point of view to be had here." She tried to reason, but Kai immediately turned on her.
"We've been through all this!" He snarled.
"Have you got any understanding of what you've done?" She asked in anger. "Morro's lost his reputation and his freedom because of your lies!"
"Do you actually expect me to feel sorry for him?!" He shouted in disbelief.
"He was supposed to be emigrating to Australia to start a new life, he's always wanted to go there, but there's no chance he will ever be able to go there now!"
"You know what he did!" Jay exclaimed.
"He wasn't charged with this supposed 'rape' because there was no evidence! Why are you keeping this going?!" She asked the pregnant brunette. "The baby is all he's got left! Even though he's in prison, he just wants to do the right thing Kai, be some kind of father!"
"Get inside!" Cole snapped at Jay.
"I'm having that DNA test once the baby's born." She stated firmly.
"You'll have to get past me first!" The noirette agent growled as he got in her face.
"I want to spend every minute I can with my grandchild, you can understand that can't you?" She desperately pleaded as Jay finally found his keys and he, Kai, and Zane ran up to the ginger's apartment.
"You show your face around here again, and life in prison for your bastard of a son will be a lot harder." Cole threatened before going to join his boyfriends, slamming the doors in Wendy's shocked and fearful face...
Zane sighed as Cole angrily paced back and forth around Jay's apartment. As soon as they got back up to the apartment, Kai had locked himself inside his room while Jay went back downstairs to make sure Wendy was long gone, for the moment anyway. Nya and Skylor were out somewhere, so the two agents didn't have to worry about them yet. This was getting ridiculous now. The others were starting to really worry about Kai and the baby's health.
They hoped that Zane could get that restraining order sorted before anything really bad happened.
"I swear if I could get my hands on Morro from his cell, I'd kill him!" Cole shouted in rage.
"Rocky, please stop, we've been through this, just let him make as much noise as he pleases while Kai sets himself up somewhere else where neither he nor his mother will ever find him," Zane explained calmly, but Cole knew him well enough to know he was just as angry and upset at the rest of them. Before Cole could say anything, Kai emerged from his room, looking like he had only just managed to stop himself from crying.
"You alright?" Cole asked gently.
"I suppose." He muttered.
"Look, what she said out there-"
"Cole, I don't want to talk about it."
"We won't let her anywhere near you, don't worry," Zane reassured, but Kai turned his gaze to the floor.
"When's Jay getting back? We need to talk about what needs packing for Jamanakai Village."
"Not sure but it'll all be okay, I promise." Cole smiled, but Kai didn't say anything and left to see what was keeping Jay...
Jay vigorously rubbed his forehead in a futile attempt to stop the headache from growing. He couldn't wait until they could move away from this place to Jamakai Village, where Morro and his mother would be nothing but a distant memory. He had driven around for the last five minutes, making sure that the old woman was gone before he returned home. It seemed she was gone, for now, that is until he heard someone knocking against his car window.
Jay looked over and glared when he saw Wendy standing there.
"All I need is a minute of your time! Please, just hear me out." She pleaded. Jay thought about it for a moment, before sighing and stepping out of the car. He had a feeling he was going to regret this. Once she was sure he wasn't going to run off, Wendy sighed in relief until an awkward look grew on her face. "Today didn't exactly go the way I planned."
"How did you think it would go?" Jay scoffed in disbelief. "Turning up unannounced, again, and making all kinds of demands on a young man who's already told you he wants nothing to do with you or your son?!"
"That letter I sent the other day was the hardest thing I've ever had to write, having to threaten someone to be a part of my own grandchild's life." She replied, looking really regretful about sending the letter.
"What did you expect?"
"There are two sides to every story Mr. Walker!" She argued desperately.
"Not this one!" He counted and she took a deep breath and glared at him.
"As I said, what happened happened, and now my family and Kai's are all in this mess together!" She shouted and Jay rolled his eyes.
"Look, I'm sorry you're in this situation." He said as calmly as he could. "I can only imagine how difficult it must be to even contemplate your son doing something so terrible, but all I care about is Kai, and now I'd like you to leave." He said and was prepared to leave, but she stopped him.
"All Morro wants is to be a part of his child's life! Is that so terrible?!" She exclaimed. "You know once I've had this DNA test-"
"You're going nowhere near that baby!"
"You can't stop me! I'll just go through the courts and request access, maybe even apply for full or joint custody."
"What?" A timid voice suddenly asked and they both turned to see Kai standing there, staring at them with wide eyes. Wendy didn't hesitate. She pushed past Jay and stepped towards Kai, who instinctively backed away.
"Kai, I've been to see a solicitor and Morro will still have parental rights, despite being in prison." She explained and Kai's eyes widened in horror. "He's going to be that baby's father and I'm going to be its grandmother, whether you like it or not." She stated firmly. Then she glanced back at Jay and walked away and disappeared into the streets. Kai started hyperventilating in panic as Jay wrapped him up in a tight embrace, allowing Kai to sob loudly into his shoulder...
