My Hero Academia: Entreri Gaiden
Chapter thirty-eight: The training camp, part one
Fuyuki and everyone in his homeroom class were standing outside of Faerun High, despite their business being related to their homeroom at UA. The fourteen of them were all standing outside of a bus that would be taking them to a secluded camping site in the woods a few miles away from where they were at right now. They would be training for a week in order to hone not just their skills, but also their quirks.
From what Fuyuki and his classmates had been told, all thirteen women of the hero course of UA's legendary year would be going along to run the training camp. That meant the moms of Fuyuki himself, as well as those of his classmates Inko (Fuyuki's cousin), Marley, Ragna, Komaru, Sebas, Samidare, Kurama, Sigurd, Omono, Goukazaru, and Toya, would all be there as their instructors for the training camp.
Toru Ojiro, the widowed wife of the late Mashirao Ojiro and the mother of the late Rem Ojiro, would also be there. Fuyuki's classmates Hikari Veldora and Aizawa Shinso would also be going to the training camp, but neither of them would have parents that would be there. Aside from all of that, things would be the same all around. The training camp was something that a lot of the teens were looking forward to, as it would let them use their quirks without the restrictions of the laws that governed quirk usage.
Fuyuki looked around, saw all of his classmates. He saw Kurama Kitsune, the son of Yui Kitsune; Kurama had a mutation quirk that gave him fox aspects, mainly a fox-like nose, his ears were like those of a fox rather than of a human, and most interestingly Kurama had a total of nine tails, rather than just one. He also had some whiskers growing out from around his nose, where on a normal person there would be normal facial hair.
Omono Kendo, the son of Itsuka Kendo (her husband took her last name upon marriage), looked like a normal kid, with fair skin and a medium long length scrub of jet black hair. He did have a single scar running under his right eye, though. All that Fuyuki knew about Omono's quirk was that it allowed him to stretch his body as if it were made of rubber. The son of Deku wondered how Omono would train his quirk at the training camp.
Goukazaru Tsukasa, the son of Setsuna Tsukasa, was somewhat tall for a teen his age. He also had a lean yet muscular build, long brown hair, and he had a brown furred long monkey tail, long monkey-like ears rather than normal human ears, and a pair of somewhat thick, pointed fangs that looked simian as opposed to vampiric. Goukazaru, like everyone else present outside of the bus, was dressed in a normal, casual manner, just like normal teen getting ready to head on out on some sort of camping trip.
...Which Fuyuki and his classmates were, except they weren't exactly 'normal' and it wasn't a normal camping trip, per say.
As the students all waited around, they heard some of their moms call out to them. Turning around, the teens saw all thirteen women of the hero course of UA's legendary year come up to them, accompanied by two other persons. The first person among the two, which caught a lot of the teens by surprise, was Ichigo Mineta, the daughter of Minoru Mineta aka Fine Wine. What she was doing there was a mystery that a lot of the students were going to want to demand answers for.
The second person was a young adult woman who had one horn growing out of the side of her forehead. Samidare Tokoyami relaxed upon seeing this woman, given that he knew her. "Oh, hey Aunt Eri," Samidare greeted casually, "How have you been?"
The woman, identified by the son of Tsukuyomi and Froppy as Eri, nodded back. "Just fine. I'm coming along on the training camp trip."
"Hey dude, you know this lady?" Ragna asked Samidare as he pointed to Eri.
"Oh yeah, a lot of you kids don't know her, so we'll make the introductions now," Ochaco said. Gesturing to Eri, Ochaco began, "This is Eri Asui. She has a bit of history from when she was a little kid because she was rescued from a really bad spot by Deku, who saved her back when he was the same age as you kids."
"A few years later from when she was saved kero," Tsuyu went on, "She met and ended up falling in love with my younger brother Samidare, who I named my son Samidare after. They ended up getting married and have been as such ever since."
Pointing to Ichigo, Marley asked, "And what, pray tell, is she doing here? Don't tell us that we're bringing her with us."
Some of the women let out troubled, resigned sighs while Ichigo herself looked troubled as well as a little guilty. "...We actually kind of have to," Momo proceeded to explain, "You see kids, Ichigo as well as her mother are both targets of interest to all three of the factions that are all made up of members from the criminal gang her father ran before he was taken down."
"Us pro heroes were able to deal with one of the three factions," Pony went on, "Partly thanks to Inko and some of her friends being able to take out the leader of one of the factions when he led some of his men in an attempt to capture her, Hikari and some of the boys." Inko as well as Fuyuki, Marley, Ragna, Komaru and Hikari all nodded in confirmation.
"...However," Itsuka went on, "There's still the other two factions to worry about, as well as the respective leaders of said factions, Takuya and Makoto. We're especially worried about Makoto, as we have reason to believe that he may try to inflict grievous bodily harm on Ichigo and or her mom due to their relationship to Minoru." Gesturing to Ichigo, Itsuka added, "Thusly, we're taking Ichigo with us on the training camp trip."
Turning to look at Hikari, Fuyuki considered her a bit, then turned to look at the women. "...I feel like the chances of Makoto actually hurting either Ichigo or her mom is less than fifty percent likely to happen, unless you count either someone taking orders from Makoto doing it without being ordered to, or Makoto himself being sufficiently provoked into doing so. I'm sorry, but from what I can figure, Makoto while emotionally hurting right now is still capable of rational thought. I feel that he won't specifically target Ichigo or her mom outside of the examples I gave."
The women all looked surprised, and Ochaco having seen her son briefly consider Hikari before he spoke up realized that he was trying to keep Hikari from getting too upset. "...That is one of the ideas were working with, albeit a bit more detailed than what we have," Ochaco said, "We're still hoping that the plan we have to deal with Makoto will work." There wasn't much else going on, so everyone boarded the bus, and soon they were off for the training camp.
As the bus drove, the teens were conversing amongst themselves in the back mostly while the women, with Setsuna driving, occupied the front. "...I don't like how Ichigo's dad had fucked up as much of peoples' lives as he had," Goukazaru remarked dryly, strong arms folded over his well-toned chest, "Hell, I'm willing to bet that Hikari's villain older brother would never have gone down that path in the first place if it hadn't been for the man!"
"Yeah, things aren't all that good right now because that man had to go and screw things up as badly has he had done," Omono said, looking mildly concerned.
"We'll work with Makoto if and when the pro heroes capture him, boys," Eri called out to the teens, "Until then, try to keep from talking about it too much, please. Such talk can very easily be troubling to at least a few people on board the bus right now."
The teens settled down from that talk, and proceeded to go on about other matters. "Say Fuyuki," Marley began, getting the son of Deku to turn to look at him, "You feeling any better now than how you did when you bailed on the party that Ragna and I were going to throw?"
Fuyuki, who was sitting next to Hikari near the back of the bus, gave Marley a dry look. "...A little. But not en-"
"Would you be interested in one when we get back then?" Marley asked, cutting Fuyuki off before he had a chance to finish talking.
"...No," Fuyuki said firmly.
"Marley, could you and Ragna please drop the matter?" Tengoh spoke up, remembering the last time that the respective sons of Cellophane and Chargebolt tried to pressure Fuyuki into going to a party, "I don't think that Fuyuki is in the mood for a party like what the two of you are most likely thinking about period."
Some of the women could tell the air around Fuyuki is tense and, worried about the teen who had been missing for so long, they acted to try to diffuse the matter in a way to show that they wanted to respect Fuyuki's wishes. "Boys, if Fuyuki doesn't want to go to or have a party, please do not force the matter onto him," Kinoko spoke up from where she and Komaru sat directly in front of Fuyuki and Hikari, drawing an appreciative look out of Ochaco.
Marley and Ragna both turned to look at the former's mom. "Well why not, Mrs. K?" Ragna asked in a defensive tone, "We just wanted to cheer Fuyuki back up after he had come back from-"
"So I was right." Fuyuki stood up forcefully from his seat, gave Marley and Ragna a serious glare. "It was a goddamn welcome back party that you were planning to throw for me, without even caring if I wanted it or not. Well let me say it right here and now, in no uncertain terms; I do not want a damn welcome back party."
"Dude, quit being so spoiled," Marley replied, sounding mildly annoyed, "We're only trying to help you feel better."
"No, Marley," Fuyuki shot back, clearly sounding like his temper was reaching its absolute limit, "You and Ragna are the spoiled ones, and you're only trying to make yourselves feel better."
"Hey hey hey," Ragna snapped, "Neither Marley nor I were the one made to look like a damn pervert and had UA tricked into kicking us out because Rem got jelly over-"
"BOYS! ZIP IT RIGHT NOW!" Everyone went quiet and froze up when Inko shot up and loudly scolded her friends into submission. With all eyes on her, Inko said to Marley and Ragna, "My cousin has a point, you two. You were only aiming to make yourselves feel better, without taking into consideration what actually would make him feel better. Hell, he was more relaxed doing his catch-up homework with Komaru and Tengoh than he would have been if the two of you had actually succeeded in forcing him to that party."
Things were feeling very tense, and the women, fearing any more thoughtless words could set off a major disaster, ordered all of the teens to remain quiet until they had reached the grounds for the training camp. With all of the teens silenced, Ochaco spoke up. "...Inko has a point," said Ochaco, "What Fuyuki needs right now is what will make him feel better, not what will make others feel better for how they feel bad over what happened to him. Trying to force something onto him and then trying to shame him when he rejects it is not going to help period."
"Yeah, we'll discuss this when we reach the camp," Kyoka said sternly, with that being the last thing that was said out loud on the bus until it reached the grounds for the training camp. It would seem that the training camp was already off to a rocky start, and the teens and women hadn't even reached the camp grounds yet. Fuyuki was having a dreading feeling that the camp was not going to be going well.
He had no idea how 'not going to be going well' the camp was going to be.
When the bus pulled up to the camp grounds in the woods, everyone got off, with the women including Eri but excluding Kinoko getting off first, followed by the teens and Kinoko who was keeping a close eye on Komaru. As some of the women were heading over to the very large cabin (it looked mansion sized) to check the things, Ochaco fell back when Kyoka and Mina had called out to her and Fuyuki.
The mother and son pair turned to see Kyoka and Mina, who were respectively forcing Marley and Ragna to bow their heads in apology. "Ochaco, Fuyuki, Mina and I would like to apologize for what our respective boys tried to pull on the bus ride here," Kyoka said, "And the boys are both sorry as well." Looking at the boys, Kyoka said in a forceful, knowing tone that had a hint of being pissed off in it, "Isn't that right boys?"
"Yes mom," Marley said, clearly sounding apologetic and a bit cowed, "Fuyuki I'm sorry for trying to force a party that you didn't want onto you."
"Same here, bro," Ragna remarked from where he stood while Mina was forcefully bowing her son's head, "I should have stayed backed off when Inko told Marley and I off the first time."
Fuyuki looked firmly at his cousin's friends for a moment, then relented with a sigh. "...Just let me come to terms with what I had been forced to go through at my own pace."
Both Marley and Ragna nodded in agreement. "That's fair," Ragna remarked.
Seeing that things had calmed down, Momo said, "There, now that we've calmed down a bit, we can now focus on setting up the training camp."
"Mrs. Awase," Tengoh spoke up as he raised a hand, getting Momo's attention, "As you and the other women here had explained, Ichigo was brought along so you can keep an eye on her due to how she's a potential target for the remaining two factions. Will Ichigo by chance be joining us in the training camp, or will you have her do something to otherwise still help out?"
"Tengoh's got a point, mom," Sebas remarked, "Is Ichigo just going to have fun and relax while the rest of us train, or will you and the other women have her do something to contribute?"
"And what about her mom?" Goukazaru asked as he raised a hand, "Didn't you say she's also a potential target? What's being done to keep her covered?"
Getting the teens to all settle down, Itsuka said, "Kids, kids, relax. Sure, we did bring Ichigo along so we can keep an eye on her due to how she's a potential target for the remaining two factions, but she's still going to help out around here. We'll have her do various chores around the camp grounds, like helping to cook food during meal times."
Clapping her hands together, Ochaco said, "Speaking of, it's getting close to dinner time, so why don't we get started on cooking that now? We're having curry tonight." The teens all cheered as the cooking of dinner got underway. Due to how many people were at the training camp, a good amount of food had been brought along. That being said, it was clear that there'd be enough to feed everyone for the entirety of the training camp.
As everyone was helping to prepare the curry, Fuyuki was working in a group with Tengoh, Toya and Hikari while Aizawa and Samidare were helping another group. "...You know, Hikari," Toya spoke up, "You aren't the only one with a villainous older brother." Everyone else in the group turned to look at Toya, eyeing him with surprised looks.
"What do you mean, Toya?" asked the slender, nerdy horned girl.
"My dad's older brother," Toya began to explain, "My Uncle Toya who I am named after. He also has a villainous past. He has a bit of a history, given that he's the villain Dabi."
"Do...do you know how your uncle had gone down the path of villainy?" Tengoh asked.
A slight scowl appeared on Toya's face. "My ass of a grandfather is largely responsible for it by not noticing it when my Uncle Toya needed help. As such, things ended up biting my family on my dad's side right in the ass, around the time when my dad was my age." Looking to Hikari, Toya went on, "I can sort of understand how you feel, given that my dad had gone through the same thing himself."
"But instead of your grandfather ultimately driving your uncle into villainy," Hikari said in a sad, resigned tone, "It's Ichigo's dad having ultimately driven my older brother Makoto into villainy."
Fuyuki nodded grimly. He himself understands all too well what it's like for someone to have been driven into villainy because of someone else. After all, Fuyuki himself had been driven into such a life because of what the late Rem had gone and pulled. In fact, if it hadn't been for the fact that Fuyuki had not only been exonerated but said exoneration was made public, then he'd most likely still be working for a still-active Fine Wine gang.
Fuyuki wondered what it would have been like, if he never did what he did to help the pro heroes and police end Mineta's madness once and for all.
While Fuyuki and his group were working on their food prep, over at another station was Inko, Marley, Ragna and Komaru. "Yeah, I picked up a lot of cooking skills from my dad," Inko said as she amazed the boys with what she was doing, "Even though he was still using a wheelchair back then."
"Yeah, my dad told me that your dad's cooking skills are legend," Marley remarked, "And it's clear that you learned from the master."
Smirking in amusement, Inko said, "Damn straight my dad is the master." After she had prepped the last of the other ingredients, Inko grabbed the last item, which to the surprise of Marley and Ragna were a certain kind of mushrooms.
"Dude, those are truffle mushrooms!" Ragna exclaimed, "The fancy kind used in high end dishes served at fancy ass expensive restaurants like where Sebas and his dad are dragged to by Sebas's mom sometimes! I heard that special pigs are used sometimes to sniff truffles out in the wild!"
"Where did you get them?" Marley asked, "Or were they brought along by Mrs. Awase?"
Timidly raising a hand, Komaru said, "Umm, actually, Inko had me spawn them." The other boys both looked to Komaru, feeling a bit nervous to suddenly have attention like that on him. "Umm, I developed the same quirk as my mom," Komaru began, "Meaning I can spawn spores that grow into mushrooms super quick. I can spawn any kind of mushroom that exists for real, and that includes truffle mushrooms."
The two boys looked to one another, then back to Komaru. "...You and your mom are both lowkey badass, my good dude," Ragna remarked.
"That means he thinks you and your mom are awesome, Komaru," Inko explained when Komaru turned to look at her with a curious, confused look. Knowing now that Marley was being nice and had paid him a complement, Komaru smiled, even giggled a bit in a sincere tone. From the looks of things, the training camp was getting off to a better start than what the incident on the bus ride to the camp would have implied.
That night, everyone was getting ready to go to bed. None of them had changed into sleep outfits yet, though. "So tomorrow begins our training for our eventual careers as pro heroes," Omono said as he and all of the boys shared one large area for sleeping in, "What say all of you? Are you all looking forward to tomorrow?"
"I'm interested to see how the women will train all of us," Tengoh spoke up, "Mind you, most of them are the respective mothers of most of us students, so they know us personally. As a matter of fact, some of them straight up have the same quirks as their respective children or something very similar."
Crossing his arms over his chest, Goukazaru said, "But not all of them have quirks that either match up or closely align with what all we have. Hell, some of us have completely different quirks compared to what our moms here have, like me and my mom for example."
"The moms here are very smart," Komaru said, "I'm sure they will figure out how to best help all of us here."
As the boys all talked about what the training tomorrow was going to be like, Fuyuki kept his thoughts to himself. Personally, he was still rather uncomfortable with so many of the women he knew full well had reviled him while they were duped by Rem's framing of him being around him. He's only barely easing up because they've started showing consideration for him, like how Mina and Kyoka had forced Ragna and Marley to apologize to him for trying to force something he didn't want onto him.
Even so, he wasn't exactly in the mood to be working with his mom, his aunt and so many of the other women. The son of Deku couldn't exactly skip the training camp, however, so he had to put up with being forced to spend time around many people who he by no means felt all that comfortable being around. Still, it was hero training, something that he had always wanted to do, something that, for the longest time due to Rem's actions, Fuyuki thought he'd never be able to get to do.
But all of that fun stuff was going to have to wait until tomorrow. For now, Fuyuki, the rest of his class, and everyone else was going to have to pack it in for the night. The teens were all excited for tomorrow, as it was going to be a chance for them to use their quirks which, under normal circumstances due to the law, they weren't allowed to use freely. But here at the training camp, the teens would be able to stretch their quirk muscles as much as they wanted.
Many of them couldn't be blamed for their excitement, although some of them were also tempered. Fuyuki especially, as some personal and recent history he's had that he's choosing to keep to himself has proven that he doesn't exactly need his quirk to take someone out.
END, CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
Author's notes;
Originally, I would have skipped straight to the main action of this mini-arc, but then I realized that one, some of you may be upset with not seeing some training camp shenanigans, and two, I need to work in the scene where Fuyuki and his classmates all pick their hero aliases. Then I'll get to the action of this mini-arc.
Take care.
