Chapter 38 – Coruscant
Coruscant was covered by sprawling kilometers-high ecumenopolis, and boasted a population of over a hundred billion. Coruscant was known to have the tallest buildings in the Galaxy. Coruscant skyscrapers dwarfed all the original natural features, including mountains, as well as floors of oceans which once covered a large portion of Coruscant's surface. Below the skyscrapers was Coruscant's undercity, where sunlight never reached. Artificial lighting illuminated these lower levels and advertisement holograms could be seen everywhere. There were numerous establishments for entertainment, catering to a myriad of alien species. The residents were collectively referred to as Twilighters.
The Millennium Falcon just dock on the ships hangar, and everyone got out and went outside. It as being a while since Leia and Ines had being there.
"I forgot how busy this planet was" Ines said looking up with all the ships flying around.
Luke was looking around. It was the first time he was there. The 4 years he was in the Rebellion, they were never in there, because it was the system were Palpatine has his headquarters and was the center of the Empire. Now that it was all over, it was the right place to started the New Republic.
There was still evidences of the celebrations of last night. It was here that the Jedi Temple and the Jedi Archives Library stood and he hope the new Senate would allow him to visit and learn everything he could to create a new Jedi Order.
"So where will we meet them?" Has asked them
"In the Senate Building" Leia replied to him
"And how do we get there?" Luke asked. He was really lost in this city but he would get used too.
"We get one of these transportations that would take us there honey" Ines answered him, by grabbing his hand, they head to the transport that took them to Senate.
Located in the heart of the Senate District, the building was situated at the end of a large, flat concourse known as the Avenue of the Core Founders, A massive drum-shaped building boasting a shield-shaped dome with a diameter of more than two kilometers, the Senate Building appeared in front of them.
Luke had a mixing of feelings. He was in the place where Master Yoda, Ben and his father were most of their lives, and now he was there and like them he wanted to live there too, with Ines and raise their future children in that place.
As they entered the building, they had to the room that once was the Chancellor office, where Senator Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar were already waiting for them.
Once they all entered in the office, Mon Mothma hugged Leia and Ines.
"Glad to see you two" she said and shook the hands of the Luke, Han, Lando and Chewie "Thanks to all of you everything went as plan. Democracy is back in the Galaxy."
"What happens now?" Leia asked
"We decided to call you here, because we are here from earlier hours and with the death of the Emperor and the fall of the Empire, the senate had decided to create a New Republic." Admiral Ackbar informed them. "There are a lot of systems in our side but there are others who still are in over possession of the empire and we need to gather anyone to help them."
"In this new republic was decided to that every systems will have a representative, like Bespin and even Tatooine. No system will be left behind. Everyone needs a voice. Including Alderaan" Mothma looked at Leia and Ines who smiled.
"We know your planet no longer exists, but it will never be forgotten. So it will have also a senator. That is what we asked you to come here, cause we think there is no better representative from Alderaan that your highness" Ackbar looked at Leia, who didn't know what to say at that.
"Me? I don't know" Leia said. She was a senator before, but she had her father back. Will she able to do that now?
Ines knew what her friend was thinking. She knew Leia was perfect for it
"Leia. You can do it. You were always great in politics, and you lead the Rebellion. Our planet deserves a voice in yours."
Leia looked at her and then to Luke and Han. She knew how everything worked.
"Well I accept"
"Wonderful" Ackbar said. "We will plan to have the first assemble in a week"
Ines looked at Luke. He knew what she was thinking
"Excuse me. I want to ask something"
"What it is, Commander Skywalker?" Ackbar asked
"You know I'm a Jedi and I know that before the Empire the Jedi's worked alongside the Old Republic and were the guardians of the Galaxy. With the death of Master Yoda, I'm the last Jedi. He asked to teach others like me the ways of the Jedi. I'm thinking to form a New Jedi Order and what no better place than the Jedi Temple. The galaxy needs protection and the Jedi can do it. I ask permission for that."
Mon Mothma and Ackbar looked at each other.
"Luke was the one who destroyed the first Death Star and he ended the Emperor. I was there. In a way if the Empire is gone, he is responsible for that. My husband deserve that vote of confidence from you" Ines spoke.
"I don't see any problem. We do need all the help and you are a legend. But the senate needs to agree and you need to pledge that the Jedi will protect the Republic"
"Of course I will" Luke said smiling "I need to learn everything from the old Jedi Order. I would like to have access the Temple and its archives"
"If that helps. Sure. It is all yours" Ackbar
"But did I hear the word husband?" Mothma smiled. She knew Leia and Ines parents.
"The Ewoks married us in Endor, but…" Ines looked at Luke "We want to have a public wedding here in Coruscant in 2 and half months and it would be an honor if Admiral Ackbar conducted the ceremony"
Luke nod
"We think there was not better choice then you Admiral"
"It will be an honor Commander Skywalker"
"Thank you. We want to marry soon because…" Ines looked at Luke smiling
"We will going to have a baby" Luke completed
"Congratulations" Mothma hugged Ines and Luke, being followed by Ackbar.
Everyone talked about what happened in the last events. Han and Leia talked about what happened in Endor, while Luke and Ines told what happened inside the Death Star, hiding some details for now.
After a while they stood up
"So General Calrissian, will you stay here?" Ackbar asked
"I will stay until Luke and Ines wedding, then I will return to Bespin"
"And you General Solo?" the Admiral looked at him "We would really want to stay here. You are a great leader"
"Of course I will stay here. Right Chewie?"
The Wookie growled in approval
"We have great friends and more than that" he looked at Leia "We need to find a place to stay"
"We will take care of that General" Ackbar said
"Princess Leia, you will stay in your father apartment in the Senate Apartment Complex"
"Yes. It was where my father stood and I will stay there" Leia smiled. Even knowing about who her real father was, that was a secret that for now she would keep, in her heart her father would always be Bail Organa.
"What about you two? With the baby on the way, where do you going to live" Han asked Luke and Ines who looked at each other. They didn't thought about it but they need a place to live.
"Normally by father stayed with Leia's. But I think it is better we have our own place, right?"
Luke nod
"We need some help with that actually"
"I think I have the perfect place for you two. Just give me a moment" Mon Mothma said and left the office, returning a few minutes later. "I found a place for you. It is an apartment of an old friend, and former Senator and Queen of the planet of Naboo, our friend Padmé Amidala."
"I remember my father talking about her." Ines said
"She was one of the head behind the Rebellion and against the Emperor. The apartment belonged to the Naboo Embassy, but since it is abandoned, they didn't mind to allow you two to live there, after all what better owner than the one responsible for the fall of the empire"
"It is very nice of them. Please thank them in our behalf" Luke said "What happened to her?"
"Sadly she died. Complications at birth. She and baby didn't survive" Mon Mothma said making Ines hold her belly and grabbed Luke's hand.
Mon Mothma notice this and rub Ines arm
"I'm sorry to say this."
"It is okay" she smiled.
"Well the good part it is the same building of Leia's apartment, so you can see each other" she said
"Well we will also find a place for you of course General Solo and maybe it is time for you gather your all of your belongings in the rebel cruiser" Ackbar said
"Admiral, my X-Wing?" Luke asked him
"It is in the ship hangar of Coruscant" he informed them. "And once we get the news from the senate about the new Jedi order we will informed you and then you will get all the access of the archives"
"Thank you. Until then maybe we should rest in our apartment"
Saying goodbye to everyone, they all went to their places. After being in Leia's apartment, all went to see Luke and Ines new place. Their belongings were already there, along side with food and everything they needed.
"They were fast" Han said admiring the kitchen.
"Nice veranda" Leia said "And look we can see the Jedi Temple from here"
"It was very nice from them. Maybe we can visit Naboo and the Queen for this" Ines said to Luke who agreed with her.
Hours later:
It was night in Coruscant. In their new apartment, Luke had his back against headboard of the bed, with Ines sitting in front of him, between his legs, with her back resting against his chest, while he has his arms around her waist, as he kept rubbing her belly.
Resting her head back on his shoulder, Luke rest his right cheek on the her left one. They had made love minutes ago, and now were enjoying each other, while they started to calm down, enjoying that moment, of their first night as husband and wife.
"Can't wait to feel this little one moving and kicking and this belly start to show up" He said making her smiling
"You say that because it is not yours who will be big" she said making him laugh.
"You mean beautiful" he kissed her shoulder.
After a minute of silence, Ines spoke what was on her mind
"You think the senate will approve the formation of a new Jedi Order?"
Luke sighed.
"I don't know but I believe they will."
"What you are going to do then?"
"I need to check the Jedi archives, I need to learn everything from them. And then find people like us. They are out there. And in the meantime, you need to complete your training and the next step is building your lightsaber. You are ready for that"
"Will you train Leia?"
"Yes I will. She needs to learn how to use it too" he nod. "It is a new life for me. I always wanted to leave Tatooine, eager to be out of there, have a life outside of it and now I have, a new life."
"Do you plan to visit someday? After all you lived there?"
"I don't know. There is nothing for me there anymore Ines. The only ones I care there, are gone. My home is here, with you, our baby" he said rubbing her belly "and my sister"
"Well at least you still have your planet to visit. I don't." she sighed "It was nice from them to keep a representative from Alderaan."
"I wish I could have know your planet my love" Luke said
"You would loved it. I would have show the places that Leia and I grew up. My mother would loved you for sure. My father too and my two older brothers too but you know being the only girl in the family, they would be more protective. After all you took their daughter and younger sister" she laughed
"I will do same when we have a little girl." he laughed
"I wish they would know that I'm happy, that we won and…" she turned in bed and faced him "I have the best man in the galaxy to take care of me and they would be grandparents. They will never know our child and the future ones we will have" she sighed sadly.
"I would have love to meet them. But wherever they are I promise them to take care of their daughter and sister, to love her until the day I leave this world" he told her and pulled her into a kiss. After they pulled apart, Ines looked at him
"When I found out that my planet was gone, back then, I thought I was alone in this world. I didn't know if Leia was alive or not."
"You were not because you had me."
"We were not together back then, mister" she smiled "Even in the end you already had conquer my heart. I was shy to tell you cause I never had fall in love before. And I was scared to tell you and then you look at me and say that I was only a friend to you"
Luke looked at her
"I had feelings for you. When I saw you in that dress, I thought you were so beautiful. But I was also confused and then we were apart when I had that mission with Nakari and you know about us"
"Yes I know."
"But the truth was, I loved you too. But then you were distance from me and I thought you moved on and Shira appeared and we know how that end."
"I didn't moved on Luke. My heart was always yours"
"I knew that when you were the only one who believed in me and said if I was out of the Rebellion for killing Shira you would followed me"
"I would followed you everywhere. I can't believe I'm your wife. It is like a dream"
"It is not. I knew that since Dagobah, when Master Yoda told me that and that our first child would be conceived soon. And he was."
"Thank you for choosing me to share a life with you Luke"
"Thank you my love for married me and making me so happy" and they kissed deeply "Come on we need a good night sleep. We need it"
Nodding, they lay back in bed, and Luke pulling Ines closer to him, they fell asleep in each others arms. Their first night as husband and wife.
A New Republic is formed and will the Senate approved a new Jedi Order? And what do you guys think of the fact that Luke is living in his mother apartment without knowing that? Will he find out?
