I'm back, just like I promised. How's everyone's day going?
…
Well, I can't think of anything else to say, so I'mma just start the chapter. But first, we've gotta do a pointless recap that nobody asked for. Fun, right?
Let's see, how did things leave off again?
Ah, right.
The blue-haired man child with the hand fetish blew up Hosu and released a bunch of deformed furbies.
Actually…
Forget the deformed part. Furbies are creepy as hell, so this is pretty normal.
Anyway, the giant furbies started breaking things and blowing people up...or is that the other way around? Meh. Anyway, before all that happened, some ninja-turtle-looking dude walked into a bar with Yoshikage Kira's son, Tiffany. Tiffany tried to recruit Mr. Ninja Turtle to his gang of law-benders. Not breakers, Tiffany was very clear that they only bend the law. Ninja turtle dude said he wasn't interested, and that's when Spider-boi's vampire mommy gf stepped in.
She said that Mr. Ninja Turtle took too long to say, so she renamed him Tim. She told Tim that Spider-boi was part of their gang and that if he joined them, he'd get a free, plain white T-shirt.
Obviously, Tim joined immediately.
He then backed out as soon as the T-shirt was in his hands. What followed was an epic 3 hour screaming match. Tim insulted Tiffany's hand fetish, which led to Tiffany summoning his stand, "Offended Karen." Her secret power of instantly harming anybody who disagreed with her master quickly overwhelmed Tim and forced him to retreat into the city.
While all of this was happening, male Azula, Deadpool's long lost twin brother, Jherri from DR3, and Black (that's right, just "Black") ate ramen and watched the chaos.
And now, we're back to where we left off. Spider-Boi left future Mrs. Aizawa to help the people in trouble while he chased after his pet lizard who was being chased by the furbies from before.
"Oi, why would you do this?!" None of this was necessary! Now all the readers are gonna be really mean and say a lot of bad things in the reviews!"
"Shut up Peter, I can do what I want. Now get out of here, you're supposed to be in Hosu."
*Ahem* Where was I? Ah, right. Recap is over, so we can now begin the story.
Imagine There's a Page Break Here:
There were a lot of things Peter had planned for today. Well, not really.
All he wanted was to walk around town, stop a crime or two, and head to a cheap restaurant to celebrate his first day as an intern.
Clearly the universe didn't want his life to be boring. In the past 10 minutes alone, he caught Spinner in the act of stalking him, had his eardrums assaulted by an explosion, had his eyes assaulted by the sight of the freakishly ugly Nomus, and was now chasing down said Nomus to save his friend.
Yep, just another day in the life of Spider-Man.
"Hey! HEY!" Peter shouted down the street, hoping to draw the Nomus' attention. He was still in the process of swinging after them while they themselves ran after SPinner, effectively creating a small parade of chaos.
The many-eyed Nomu turned slightly, but did not stop his chase. Peter groaned in frustration, trying to think of a way to get their attention on him.
"PETER!" Spinner screamed from the front of the pack. "WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO HERE?!"
"FOLLOW THE PLAN! FIND A CHANCE TO ESCAPE AND HIDE IN THE SHADOWS!"
"THAT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT ADVICE IF THERE WERE A-"
Spinner was cut off abruptly, a bright red flash shooting out of the darkness. The light crashed into Spinner, blasting him away from the street, but thankfully away from the Nomus.
"Just perfect. 3 giant monsters running around and now one of the criminals who attacked UA is here. This day just keeps getting better." A deep voice grumbled.
Peter stopped swinging, instead clinging onto a nearby building. He stared down at the Nomus, who had stopped moving now that their prey had shot out of sight.
Peter watched as a fiery shape appeared, walking towards him slowly.
"Oh crap." He breathed out.
It was Endeavour.
"So, you're the ones who caused all this destruction then. Well, that makes you my enemy. Come on then, I'll take you on." Endeavour sounded pissed, but that was probably just his normal voice, so it was hard to tell.
The winged Nomu was the first to move, flapping quickly down the street to meet the hero head on. The large man simply glared at the creature, raising one hand in its direction.
"Prominence burn."
A huge beam of fire erupted from his fist, striking the creature dead on. Just like Spinner, it was sent flying away, a smoking hole in its chest.
"What do I do? I can't go help Spinner, not with him right there." Peter wrenched his gaze away from the fight, focusing instead on his downed friend. He had crashed through the side of a building, but Peter could still just barely see him. He was moving, but the right side of his shirt had been singed off, with the rest slowly burning.
"He...he probably won't notice. He looks pretty busy fighting these things."
Indeed, Endeavour was paying his surroundings no mind, all of his attention focused on the Nomus before him. The man hadn't even noticed Peter on the side of the building yet, but to be fair, his new suit was specifically designed with stealth in mind.
His mind made up, Peter quietly dropped from his position on the building, landing silently a few feet from the fight.
"I just need to check on Spinner, then I'll help Endeavour."
Peter sent up a silent thanks to his past self for creating a suit that made it easy to get around unseen. He stealthily slinked around the fight, careful to not be seen by the flaming giant or the ugly giants.
Honestly, Peter didn't even think Endeavour needed his help. The man was doing pretty well on his own. Whenever a Nomu tried to get close, he blasted it away. Still, he would probably get tired soon, so Peter needed to hurry.
Finally, he made it. Peter had crept past them without being seen and was now standing in front of the hole Spinner had created. Leaping into the hole, Peter began lifting bits of debris that had landed on his friend, pinning him down.
"Spinner! You okay?" Peter lifted the scaled man up, supporting him with his shoulder.
"I...I'm fine. Just as good as I can be after getting blasted into a building." Spinner coughed, clearly in a lot of pain. Many of his scales were broken, and some were glowing red from the heat of Endeavour's fire blast.
Peter took a look around, trying to find a way to get Spinner away from the battlefield. If he was found by a hero, there was no way he'd be able to fight them off in this condition. There were no exits that he could see besides the hole in the wall, but…
"I mean, the building's already damaged. Nobody'll care, right?" Peter reassured himself. The heroes in this place took property damage pretty seriously, so hopefully he wouldn't get in trouble for this.
Peter gently set Spinner down and walked to the wall opposite their impromptu entrance. Taking a deep breath, he sent out one final prayer that none of the heroes would see him doing this. Cocking back his fist, Peter took a swing at the wall and broke off a large portion of it. Bringing his fist back again, he took another swing, and another, quickly reducing the wall to rubble.
There was now nothing between them and the street on the other side. Thankfully, there were no heroes there, and there were only a few fleeing civilians. However, there was one person.
"..."
"..."
"...Peter?"
"...Hey Midoriya."
There, looking extremely frazzled, was the familiar broccoli-headed boy. The boy's hero costume was slightly torn, there was dirt all over his face, and a small cut was leaking blood into his eye.
"Wh-what are you doing here? Why'd you knock the wall down?"
Peter blanked. He had nothing. There were no civilians nearby, so he couldn't say he was making an escape route, and he obviously couldn't say that Spinner was here. The only saving grace was that Midoriya somehow hadn't noticed him yet.
"I-I...uh, er, I don't…wh-what are you doing here?" Peter mentally facepalmed. Was that really the best he had?
"I was with my assigned hero. WHen we heard the explosions, he told me to go help whoever needed it while he looked for the person who caused the damage. Well, never mind that! Have you seen Iida!? I think he might be in trouble!"
"Eh? Wait, why?" Peter grew concerned. What was wrong with Iida?"
"Well, it's just a theory but...this is the same city where the hero killer, Stain appeared, and now there are Nomus. At least, that's what I heard, I haven't actually seen them yet."
"Well, they're literally on the other side of the building, so…"
Also, hero killer Stain? Hadn't Spinner mentioned somebody named Stain in the past?
"B-but, I don't know if he told you this, but...you know how Iida's been so distant this past week?"
Peter thought back. Now that he mentioned it, Iida had been quieter and more easy going over the last week. He hadn't paid much attention at the time though, since it didn't seem important.
"Yeah. Why? What does that have to do with this?"
"It was because of his brother. After the sports festival, he told me his brother was hospitalized fighting the hero killer. If he thinks the hero killer is here, he may have gone after him. If Iida found him, he could be in danger."
That...actually made sense. Peter had plenty of experience with revenge, both his own and the vengeance of others. Chasing revenge could lead to all kinds of disasters. If Iida really had found Stain…
But, what was Peter supposed to do? Casting a look over his shoulder, he observed Endeavour's fight against the Nomus. He was still untouched, but his attacks were clearly doing less damage. He was slowing down, and pretty soon he'd need backup.
There was also Spinner. The man needed help, but how was Peter supposed to get him out of here without Midoriya seeing him?
And lastly, Iida. While he was helping Endeavour or Spinner, Stain could have already killed him.
Peter's mind raced, struggling to find a solution.
And then, he got an idea.
"Midoriya, I need your phone!" Peter dashed forward, careful to keep Spinner behind him and out of his classmate's sight.
"E-eh? O-okay, sure." Midoriya fumbled in his pockets for a second before drawing out a green phone. Peter snatched it from him and quickly dialed the emergency service number.
"Hello, this is the hero hotline. How may we help you?" A feminine voice spoke through the receiver.
"Yeah, hello? I'm in Hosu city right now. Endeavour is fighting by himself at...at….god, where the hell am I?" Peter muttered under his breath. He looked all around, finally catching sight of a street sign. "Kashyyyk main road. Please send help, he needs backup now."
Peter didn't wait for the operator to answer. He disconnected the call and handed Midoriya his phone.
"Go find Iida. I'll be right behind you, but there's something I need to do first.
"What? What do you need to do? And what are you talking about with Endeav-"
Midoriya stopped, finally noticing the red flashes behind Peter. He leaned around his classmate, looking through both holes in the building to see Endeavour fighting the Nomus.
"Midoriya, go! I'll be right behind you, but I need to take a quick sweep of the area to make sure nobody needs help." Peter ordered.
"But," Midoriya remained hesitant to leave.
"GO, NOW!" Peter shouted. He was running out of patience. The longer they stood here arguing, the better the chance that Iida would be killed.
Midoriya opened his mouth again, but he said nothing. The greenette activated his quirk and dashed off in a flash of green lightning.
"Okay, time for phase 3. This...better go well. Please don't mess this up." Peter muttered to himself as he rushed back to Spinner, who remained slumped in the shadows.
"Spinner, you still with me."
"Y-yeah, I'm good." The lizard man groaned. He shakily rose up to his feet, pressing his hand to the wall to steady himself. That was an improvement. At least he could stand on his own.
"Spinner, listen to me. The hero killer might be attacking one of my friends right now. I don't know how strong he is, but I can't just assume Iida and Midoriya can handle him."
"What? The great Stain?" New energy flooded Spinner's eyes. He immediately stood straighter, looking around as if he hoped to catch sight of the man he worshipped.
"Look, you can't be moving around, but I can't just leave you here. So…" Peter opened the front of his suit. This new model was not nanotech, so it had to be taken off manually. WIth the chest now open, the Iron Spider compartment was in full view.
"This is gonna be weird. Normally, I'd make you practice, but there's no time for that. I need you to just go along with this." Peter instructed his friend as he tugged the compartment of his chest and zipped his suit back up.
Before Spinner could ask what he meant, Peter pressed the spider compartment onto his chest. The metal container secured itself to Spinner's chest, ensuring it wouldn't fall off.
"Karen, allow second user. Voice activation code 3X7B."
"Code confirmed." Karen's voice flowed from the compartment as Spinner stared down at it in surprise.
"Allow Spinner full command."
"Full command granted. Welcome Spinner."
"Hey, wait a second! What the hell is-"
"Please hold still. As this is your first time operating the 17-B Iron Spider, I will handle suit deployment for you." Karen cut off the man's bewildered questions.
The compartment opened, releasing a swarm of nanobots that crept onto Spinner's scales. They flowed over his body, quickly covering it in the familiar armor that Peter had previously worn to the USJ.
In seconds, Spinner was totally covered in nanotech armor.
"Peter?! What is this!?" Spinner sounded both excited and scared, his voice slightly distorted by the suit's mask.
"Karen, track my suit's signal. When he's ready to move, have him follow the signal to me." Peter ignored his questions. There was no time to answer them.
"Understood."
"Great. Look Spinner. I know this is a lot to take in, but you'll just have to bear with it. The suit will keep you from being arrested immediately as long as you don't talk to anybody. The HUD will show you a blue trail that leads to me. When you're ready to move, follow that and you'll find me. I'm sorry. I'd love to answer your questions, but I don't have time right now."
With that, Peter turned on his heel and left Spinner behind. Emerging in the street, Peter took a flying leap and ran up the side of the tallest building he could see. Once on top, he surveyed the streets below, looking for a familiar green flash.
Thanks to the darkness of the city, it didn't take long. The trail of green light was like a beacon, easily alerting Peter to Midoriya's position.
As he leaped off the building and began swinging to the light, Peter briefly allowed his mind to wander.
"Was that...the right call? I just gave away the Iron Spider and Karen. TO A CRIMINAL! I know he's my friend, but was this the right choice? Oh god, I really hope I didn't just make everything worse."
Peter was so caught up in his thoughts, he didn't even realize that he had lost track of Midoriya. For however many seconds he had just been swinging after nothing. Peter's gaze darted around, frantically trying to find that familiar green light.
Then it happened.
BOOM!
Instead of green lightning, Peter found red fire. A blazing inferno shot out of a nearby alleyway, illuminating the darkened streets.
"WHAT THE-!" Peter jumped back in surprise. Recovering from his shock quickly, he ran to the alley, zooming around the corner and being met with the sight of...absolute madness.
"How? That's my line." Peter heard Todoroki speak.
The alley was a mess. A hero dressed as a Native American, Midoriya, and Iida were all slumped against the ground, none of them moving. There was a large iceberg in the dead center of the alley, directly in front of Todoroki, whose left side was emitting large amounts of fire.
"GUYS! ARE YOU ALRIGHT!?" Peter yelled, drawing the attention of everybody present.
Before somebody could answer, the iceberg was cut to pieces. As chunks of ice rained down, a man dressed in torn, filthy clothing dropped to the ground, Katana and machete raised high. He raised his eyes, getting a good look at Peter.
"Your costume...it's similar to his, but different. A knockoff? A wannabe?" He growled quietly.
Seeing a chance to stall for time, Peter took off his mask, showing the hero killer his face.
"Not like most of Japan hasn't already seen it, right?"
"Nah, I'm real. Sorry about the confusion, but I just really wanted to make something new." Peter responded in his usual carefree tone. To most, it would seem as if he was screwing around, but he was actually taking stock of the situation.
"3 of them down. Only me and Todoroki are still active. I don't know what this guy's quirk is, but he probably paralyzed them somehow. It can't be permanent, so I've just gotta stall for time."
Stain looked momentarily surprised. However, his face was quick to shift back to his fierce glare.
"So, you're the real Spider-Man. And I suppose that if you're here at the same time as those things were released, it must be true then. You really are working with that band of idiots. I had such high hopes for you, but my faith was clearly misplaced."
"Peter, what is he talking about?" Todoroki's voice was colder than usual.
"I-I honestly don't know."
"What is he talking about? Who does he think I'm with? Wait, he think I work with 'them' because I'm here at the same time as the Nomus. Does that mean he thinks I work with...oh no. What did they tell him?"
All the pieces fit together. At some point, Stain must have been in contact with the League of Villains, and they had to have claimed he was working with them.
Peter wanted to deny the claim, but he couldn't. If he tried it while Midoriya and the others were here, it'd be like admitting he was closely connected to the L.O.V.
"Well, not that it matters. It's just another fool for me to kill." Stain raised his blades, preparing to strike. Fire poured out of Todoroki's left side once again and the ground underneath his right foot froze. Peter put his mask back on and assumed a fighting stance. For a single moment, a thought entered Peter's mind.
"Why does he do this? They call him the hero killer, but why is that him? For what reason does he kill heroes? Is he just a malicious killer, or...is he like them?"
"Peter! Don't let him ingest your blood! That's how he paralyzed us!" Midoriya shouted from his prone position."
"So I was right then. It is paralysis." Peter threw Midoriya a thumbs up without taking his attention off Stain.
"Wait, I remember now!"
There was a time a few weeks ago when Peter and Spinner had been alone in Kurogiri's bar, save for Kurogiri himself. Spinner had used the opportunity to tell Peter all about Stain.
"The great Stain is a man worthy of the greatest of legends! He is an inspiration to people like us all over the world! It's because of him that I, Dabi, Magne, Toga, Compress, and Twice joined the league. We wish to assist Shigaraki in his quest to change society, just like the great Stain would want."
"You really like this guy, huh Spinner?" Peter rubbed the back of his head nervously, a little put off by Spinner's excitement.
"Of course I do! The man is a visionary, a true changer of society! He works to send messages, to show this world that the way it operates is wrong. He kills the false heroes, the fakes, the posers, to show that they don't belong. That's why he's been given the nickname of hero killer."
Peter paled a little. He had been hoping Stain worked in ways beside killing.
"That's...nice. He doesn't just randomly attack people, right?"
"Of course not! The great Stain isn't some common street thug, existing only to cause chaos. He strikes methodically, attacking his targets and nobody else. His only other victims are those who oppose or attack him. Stay out of his way, and he will not harm you."
"HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT THAT!?" Peter internally screamed at himself. "That was everything I needed!"
"WAIT!" Peter threw up his hands, drawing a confused look from Todoroki and a deeper glare from Stain. "Stain, if you want to fight me, fine! But please, at least let me get them out of here." Peter pointed to Midoriya, Iida, and the downed hero. "They have nothing to do with this anymore. They can't attack you, so please, let me remove them so they don't get hurt."
It probably wouldn't work, but there was a chance. If Stain really only killed those he needed to and only attacked those who attacked him, surely he wouldn't mind if Peter removed crippled combatants from the fight.
Stain stared at Peter as if he'd grown two heads.
"You...you're serious aren't you?" Stain sounded genuinely confused, his rage-filled expression gone.
"Yes. If you want to fight, I'll fight. But they don't need to be here for this. Let me get them away from here, and I'll gladly throw hands with you." Peter pressed, hoping to get Stain to agree.
Stain looked thoughtful for a moment.
"A true hero...saves the people before he wins the fight." Stain muttered so quietly that only Peter could hear him. The noseless man looked up, a faint glimmer of respect in his eyes
"I'll admit, I appreciate your commitment. But I cannot allow them to leave. That boy...Ingenium's little brother, he attacked me first. That man, the hero, was my target. And you, the ice flame boy, you also attacked. The only one allowed to leave is the green one. He spoke of saving his friends, not defeating me, and he analyzed me perfectly. He is worthy, the rest are not."
Peter felt a small chill at the man's words. He had fought way scarier opponents before, but there was something about Stain that just inspired fear.
Besides that, his words confirmed it. There was no getting them out of here. Peter would have to fight off Stain while also keeping the others safe.
Sighing deeply, Peter brought his fists back up, ready for a fight. Almost simultaneously, he and Stain kicked off the ground and raced towards each other. Stain raised both his blades while Peter reared back a fist.
"STOP!"
A fraction of a second before the two met, somebody dropped in between them from above. The newcomer grabbed Peter's wrist with one hand and held Stain's shoulder with the other.
"Stop this! You two shouldn't be fighting!"
"Hold up. That voice. No. No, no, NOOO!"
Stain jumped away from the man he believed to be a new attacker. Peter had simply gone numb and allowed himself to be pushed away.
"Great Stain, please listen to me! I'm...god, How do I take this off!" The newcomer pawed at the mask covering his face. Peter felt a pit open in his stomach as a familiar voice said "Removing facial shield."
The mask of the Iron Spider fell away, revealing Spinner's face. Peter swore he could HEAR Todoroki, Midoriya, and Iida stiffen behind him, shocked at the sight of one of the USJ attackers wearing Peter's armor.
Nobody said anything.
"..."
"..."
"..."
"...Peter." Todoroki began. "...What the hell is going on here?"
Ah cliffhangers, how glorious they are. Oh, and I'm aware that Endeavour didn't arrive until way later, but I've said before that I'd be futzing with the timeline a lot, so it shouldn't surprise you all.
On an unrelated note, I started reading Chainsaw Man yesterday. My brother recommended it to me, saying it was a great story. I figured, "Why not? I could try reading a chapter or two." Yeah...that "chapter or two" turned into a marathon of me reading all 97 chapters in one sitting. Holy hell Chainsaw Man is good! I've only known about it for a day now and I already can't wait for the anime adaptation the MAPPA is doing later this year. Join me my otaku brothers. Read Chainsaw Man, and be amazed.
Thanks for reading and remember to leave a review.
Aren signing off.
My apologies for the cringy "recap."
