Ben sat in his bedroom, contemplating everything that was going on in his life at the moment. Ben's room is a large comfortable room. It's a mix of modern and old styles. It has two entrances (from a hallway and a balcony), a fireplace, a four-poster bed, and a Foosball table. This room has a great view of the Isle of the Lost.
If he wasn't in his room, there is a large library built for Belle with Ben's favorite books on lower planks.
Everyone knows that Ben is a sweet-natured teen who is willing to give anyone a second chance when not even his own parents were willing to give them the chance. He seems to take after his father in looks and his mother in personality as he is more willing to see people past their appearances (similarly to how his mother saw beneath the Beast's exterior) along with having a love of reading and books as well as a gentle soul.
But now, all Ben could feel was the anxiety about having to become king in such a short amount of time. He didn't know how he was going to be able to rule an entire kingdom at fifteen years-old. He was only a kid! He wasn't even a legal adult yet. He was still only a sophomore in high school. How was this possibly going to work?
There were moments where he could only cry from how much stress and pressure he was under. He looks at his TV constantly, only to see the same thing every time: the stories about his upcoming coronation. Twenty-four hours a day, the reporters are talking about him becoming king.
Ben couldn't take it anymore, shutting off the TV, throwing the remote onto the other side of the room before jumping onto his bed. He could feel the anxiety building up as he began to hyperventilate. He took one of his pillows and used it to cover his face, screaming out all his emotions.
He heard his phone ringing, and looked to see that it was his older sister, Erin, calling him. Erin was married to the oldest son of Tiana and Naveen, and the two had recently been crowned King and Queen of Maldonia. Because of that fact, Ben was now going to rule over Auradon instead of her. He grabbed his phone, answering the call.
"Hello?"
"You okay?"
"No. I'm freaking out right now." He said, his voice shaking as he spoke.
"Well, I guess it's a good thing I'm here then." Ben looked up and saw Erin standing in the doorway with her one-and-a-half year-old daughter in her arms. She was also currently three months pregnant with her second child.
Ben stood up from his bed and fell into his sister's arms, crying again as he couldn't stop thinking about anything that had to do with becoming king. Erin held her little brother, whispering in his ear as she rubbed his back soothingly.
Little Adelaide took her tiny hand and patted her uncle's head, not really understanding why he was so upset. Ben looked at his niece and smiled slightly, the little princess always being able to make any one smile. He took Adelaide and walked back to his bed.
"Why are you so cute?"
Adelaide laid her head on his shoulder, babbling the very few words that she could say. Erin sat next to them, placing a hand on Ben's shoulder.
"How do you do it?" Ben asked, looking off into the distance. "Being a ruler?"
"Well, I try not to think about it too much. I mean, I'm not just a queen, Ben. I'm a mom, I'm a wife, and I'm a person. I'm still the same person I am before I was crowned. The only thing that's really changed about me is the irrelevant title."
"All that's easy for you to say. The people aren't looking at your every move, just waiting to see you mess up on one little thing."
Erin moved to face her brother. "Ben, you and I both know that you are capable with doing this."
"I'm fifteen! How am I gonna be a king at my age?!" Ben exclaimed, frustrated.
"How do you think I handle being a twenty-year-old queen?" Erin asked, moving Adelaide and taking both his hands, making him look up at her. "By not worrying too much about it. I set aside time for myself, my friends, and of course, my family. If I feel overwhelmed, I go to calm myself down however I need to. If I don't feel like I can handle it, I just walk away for a little bit and come back to it later."
"I'm still scared."
"Well, that's good." Erin said. "It means that you care about what you do. It means that you want to do a good job at it. And I know you can. And if you need help, we're all here for you. You know that, don't you?"
"Yeah." Ben muttered as Adelaide started to fuss tiredly.
"Okay, I think you both need a nap." Erin said.
"Can she stay here?"
"You want to stay with Uncle Ben?" Adelaide moved closer to Ben, as if answering the question. "Get some sleep. I'll come get you both before dinner."
Ben laid down, holding a hand over his niece to keep her from moving, as Erin went to leave the room.
"Hey, Erin?"
"Hmm?" She asked, turning back around.
"What do you think this one's gonna be?" Ben asked, referring to her future child.
"I don't know. As long as the baby's alright, I don't care what the gender is." Erin left the room, leaving Ben to his thoughts.
"You know, Addy, you've got a really good mom." He told the toddler as if she was actually listening. "I hope I can be a good ruler like her." He said as he fell asleep.
