Insufferable Attraction
Chapter 37
Harry sighed contentedly as he flew high above the ground on his broom, enjoying the feel of the wind in his face and ruffling his messy hair. A golden glint caught his eyes as it darted in front of him, making him smirk and turn his broom towards it. Quickly flying towards it, he held out his hand to catch the Snitch left to him by Dumbledore in his will. However, before he could catch it, a white and green blur zoomed past him, the blur nearly snagging the Snitch, only coming to an abrupt stop when it missed.
Chuckling at the person that was the blur, Harry asked playfully, "Getting rusty, Malfoy?"
Draco looked at him with a fake, annoyed look before answering, "Never, Potter."
"Are you sure?"
"You know I almost had that blasted Snitch just now."
"Yeah, almost."
The blond wizard rolled his eyes as Harry chuckled, though he did smile. A glint of gold caught their eyes causing them to both look, grey and green eyes landing on Snitch that was hovering just meters below them. Looking at each other, the men smirked before both diving for the Snitch, the little ball with wings flying quickly towards the ground to get away from them. Harry and Draco were neck in neck with each other, both of their arms outstretched for the Snitch just out of their grasps. They were both so close, and yet just feet above the ground, Harry's fingers closed around the Snitch, he and Draco both pulling up in the nick of time as to not crash into the ground.
Panting a bit, Harry grinned and pocketed the Snitch before saying, "Not bad, Malfoy. You can still give me a run for my money, I see. But I still won."
"Hey, we were tied before just now," Draco replied, raking his blond hair out of his face with his hand.
"Yeah, but four to three still indicates that I won."
"Annoying git."
Harry couldn't help but laugh, knowing his ex-enemy yet still rival (in Quidditch anyway) only meant his insult in jest. He really was glad they were able to hash out their issues after the war and have a friendship. It also helped that his wife was sister to Draco's fiancé, making their interactions all the easier. He would probably never tell the former Death Eater this, but he was happy for his friendship. It filled a void that Ron's absence had created.
Shaking his head from those thoughts, Harry asked, "How is the wedding planning going?"
Draco gave a slight shrug saying, "It's going well, I'd say. Though, I am annoyed with Astoria planning it the week before Daphne is to give birth to your child. Honestly, it's ridiculous that she's even doing so because all of Wizarding Britain will be talking about the new Potter heir afterwards for who knows how long, anyway. They aren't going to give a shite about a Malfoy's wedding."
Harry gave a chuckle before saying, "Well, at least you'll have some good publicity when your wedding is announced in the Prophet."
"Oh yes, because that's the best paper out there to publicize it."
The sarcasm was heavy in Draco's tone, only making Harry laugh a bit more. Draco chuckled himself before asking, "How's Granger? Is she doing well?"
"Yeah, Hermione's fine," Harry answered. "She's in good spirits, all things considered. She and Snape have admitted their mutual love for each other now, and they seem really happy together."
Surprised, the blond wizard asked, "Really?"
Harry nodded. "Yeah, it was surprising to hear, but I'm happy that they're happy."
Draco nodded in agreement with the bespectacled wizard. He had wanted his godfather to take a chance with the brunette swot, believing that she would make him happy and he her. He wanted Severus to find happiness and love, to no longer be alone and be with someone that would love and care for him unconditionally. He never once imagined it would be Granger, but he was glad things worked out the way that they did.
A sudden thought occurred to him and he couldn't help but chuckle. "It won't be long before there a miniature Snapes and Grangers running around."
"I can't really imagine Snape as a father," Harry stated with a slightly bemused look on his face.
"I can." Draco got a far away look in his eye before he shuddered and shook his head. When Harry asked him what that was about, he said, "I just had a flashback to my childhood where Uncle Sev once put me over his knee."
Laughing out loud, Harry dug into his pocket to pull out the Snitch again, telling Draco he wouldn't tell anyone about that to save him some dignity. He then asked the blond if he was ready to have another go at catching the Snitch, to which the Malfoy heir agreed. Releasing the little gold winged ball, they both watched it fly off into the sky out of sight before flying off in search for it once more.
It had been two weeks since Hermione had taken her husband's remodified Fertility Potion. During that time, they had gotten back to their normal routines, at peace with how things were going and not having any disruptions of that peace. That was, however, before they were summoned by Minister Shacklebolt to the Ministry. And the reasons for that was a meeting with the Bloodline Restoration Act representatives. After two weeks of peace to themselves, it was finally disrupted by the thorn in their sides, much to their chagrin.
Walking into the Minister's Office, Severus and Hermione found Kingsley and the B.R.A. representatives. As soon as the door closed behind them, Severus asked, "What do you want?"
Kingsley sighed and said, "The representatives wanted to check in to see if your remodified potion has been completed, especially since the deadline has passed."
"The Minister is correct," one representative spoke up. From his dark, sleek hair, Severus recognized him as the one that had suggested finding him a new wife dur to Hermione's "infertility". He didn't like him and liked him even less with the smug expression on his face. "The deadline is up, so we found it imperative to see if your remodified Fertility Potion is ready or not. And since we hadn't heard from you or Lady Prince, we've assumed it isn't ready yet; a shame, really."
Hermione looked at the wizard in slight annoyance before saying, "It is finished."
"What?" the blonde-haired witch from the B.R.A. said in astonishment.
"I completed my modifications for the potion two weeks prior to now, as well as have given it to my wife," Severus said in a bored tone. However, he couldn't help but smirk at their flabbergasted and annoyed expressions. He knew they were furious that they hadn't been immediately notified about his finishing of the potion, and he was glad about it.
The sandy haired witch, the one representative that had seemed reasonable with him the last time they had met, asked calmly, "Since Lady Prince has taken the potion, can we assume it has worked, Lord Prince?"
"We're not sure," Hermione answered.
"Oh?"
"We um, we haven't checked yet." Hermione flushed and ducked her head a bit. Severus nodded in agreement to the sandy haired witch before scowling at the others.
Kingsley, having been silently watching during the time, cleared his throat and stood suggesting, "Perhaps Lord and Lady Prince can go to St. Mungo's to check to see if they are expecting. Of course, it has to be alright with you two."
Severus and Hermione looked at Kingsley before looking at each other, a silent conversation flowing between them. Done with their conversation, Hermione turned to Kingsley and said, "We will do it, but only if the B.R.A. representatives aren't present."
"What?" the sleek haired man said. "Why?"
"Because you've stuck your nose in enough of our business. No need to have you present for something that should only be for my wife and I," Severus told him scathingly.
The wizard and his fellow colleagues looked very put out with Severus's reply, but had to also recognize that of the three couples affected by the Bloodline Restoration Act, they had been doubly in the business of the Princes than the Potters or Lestranges. Begrudgingly, he and the others agreed to letting the couple go to St. Mungo's to see the result of Severus's potion by themselves. Satisfied, Hermione and Severus turned to Kingsley who dismissed the B.R.A. representatives before turning to his fireplace.
Grabbing some Floo Powder, Kingsley said, "Just so you know, if you are pregnant Hermione, the Daily Prophet will have to be notified. They have covered everything concerning the Bloodline Restoration Act so far, and they did announce the baby that Harry and Daphne are expecting. So, they will be waiting to announce yours and Severus's, as well as Luna's and Rabastan's."
"So long as it isn't Rita Skeeter reporting it," Hermione replied.
"Also, it will be a nice, refreshing article about you and Severus following the previous one about your attack. The public will be happy to read it, especially after being worried about you because of Ron's attack, and more than likely be more supportive of your relationship, if they aren't already."
Tossing the Floo Powder into the fireplace, green flames appearing and growing large, Kingsley looked at them and asked, "Ready?"
Severus and Hermione looked at each other before stepping up to Kingsley saying, "Ready."
Hermione sat on the hospital bed patiently, Severus and Kingsley standing near it while they waited with her. Upon Flooing into St. Mungo's, she and her husband immediately requested Healer Durdridge, seeing as Hermione was last under her care. Once she had arrived and escorted them to vacant hospital room, Kingsley informed her of what they wanted and why, making sure to give her the bare minimum of their visit. Durdridge had simply nodded and asked them to wait while she went to check on another patient, thus here they were.
A few minutes later, the door opened and Healer Durdridge stepped inside. Closing the door, she smiled and greeted, "Lord and Lady Prince, welcome back. So, the Minister tells me that you would like to check to see if your womb is healed."
"Yes, Severus has created a potion that hopefully undid the damage done to my womb from the attack," Hermione said.
"Well, only one way to find out. If you would lie back so I can run a diagnostic, please."
Hermione did so and allowed the Healer to run her diagnostic, the other witch making conversation with Severus, asking him more about his remodified potion. She was surprised at what he had done, and mentioned that she knew about how he had modified the Fertility Potion before his remodification, telling him that it was such great work and that St. Mungo's had been discussing buying some of those potions in bulk from him. Hermione smiled at her husband who looked surprised to hear the news but thanked the Healer anyway.
Lowering her wand, Healer Durdridge grabbed the piece of parchment that had appeared and read over Hermione's diagnostic. A look of surprise came over her face and she said, "Oh my."
"What?" Severus asked.
"It worked. Your potion to heal your wife's womb worked, Lord Prince. Her womb is completely healed, no scarring whatsoever."
Hermione, who had sat up, grinned at Severus's blank expression, though she could see the relief in his black eyes. Kingsley smiled and shook the other wizard's hand saying, "Congratulations, Severus. That is quite the accomplishment, especially in the world of potions."
Durdridge nodded in agreement. "I concur, congratulations, Lord Prince. This is such an impressive breakthrough, especially because you've revised the Fertility Potion twice. I must ask, would you like to possibly work with our Potions Masters in the St. Mungo's Potions lab? You could help fix a wide array of potions, improve them, all that jazz. Your skills would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sure the other Potions Masters could learn a thing or two from you."
"It would be a great opportunity, Severus, and like she said, your skills in potion-making would be more beneficial and appreciated here," Hermione said.
Severus looked at his wife before looking at Kingsley, then Healer Durdridge's hopeful face. Both women were right, his skills would be very much appreciated in the medical world, him being able to help others that had done all they could to help themselves. That, and he wouldn't have to worry about brats that didn't take the art of potion-making seriously or have an appreciation for it. He knew Minerva still was waiting to see if he would accept her offer, and now he was being offered another opportunity. Which one would he take? Clearing his throat, he said, "I'll think about it."
Laughing, Dudridge said, "Alright, then. Now, is there anything else you'd like for me to do before you go?"
"We'd like it if you could tell us if my wife is expecting a baby."
A little surprised by the request, she nodded and waved her wand over Hermione again, running another diagnostic. As she did, the other occupants waited anxiously for whatever the results would be. Of course, Severus was hiding his anxiousness, so no one would know if he was or not. But Hermione knew her husband well by now, and she could see he was just as anxious as she was to hear the news. After another moment and the Healer was reading the new piece of parchment with Hermione's diagnostic, Kingsley asked, "Tell us Healer Durdridge, what is the verdict?"
Healer Durdridge lowered the parchment and looked at the couple asking, "Do you want to hear the results of this diagnostic?"
Hermione looked up at Severus before looking back at the older witch. Taking a deep breath, she let it out and answered, "Yes."
Prince Baby Announcement!
This Daily Prophet reporter is happy to announce that Lord and Lady Prince are expecting their first child. The couple were spotted exiting St. Mungo's with happy smiles on their faces, Lady Prince spilling tears of joy while her husband was openly grinning. Only one thing could make a couple so happy leaving the hospital, and that would have to be news of an impending pregnancy. I got a chance to ask them if it was true that a baby was in the making, and they both answered 'yes', very much happy with the news.
It was also stated that Lord Prince may possibly be joining the St. Mungo's Potioneer team. With him having the title as the youngest Potions Master in Wizarding Britain, it is known that Lord Prince is a brilliant mind in the Potions lab. With his expertise, he is sure to help St. Mungo's potions excel.
It won't be long, folks. First a Potter baby, and now a Prince baby. This reporter can't wait to cover the future Lestrange baby, and that will be all three couples of the Ministry's Bloodline Restoration Act fulfilling said act. Again, I am so very happy and excited for the Princes, as well as for the future arrival of baby Prince.
