Alex and Yukino arrived in Hargeon just as Erza and the other S-Class mages were packing their things into the boat. Erza smiled when she saw Alex and walked over to her. "I was beginning to think you weren't going to get here in time." She looked to the young girl standing beside her. "And who's this?"
Alex smiled and patted Yukino's head. "This is Yukino Agria. Her sister will be joining us here tomorrow."
Mira looked up from putting her bag on the boat. "That's Sorano's sister, right?" Alex nodded. "You found her then!" She smiled widely. "That's so great! I know you've been looking for her for a while."
Gildarts walked over to the group. "Everything is packed up. We should head out to Tenroujima now." He grinned. "Gotta get the place set up for the exam."
Alex nodded and hugged Erza. "Take care of yourself, alright?"
Erza gave her fellow S-Class wizard a comforting smile. "Don't worry. You've helped us as much as you can. We'll see you soon."
The group of Wizards climbed onto the boat and waved goodbye as the boat sailed away.
"Alright!" Alex smiled widely and faced Yukino. "What do you say we explore Hargeon? Everyone else is supposed to be here tomorrow."
"You mean I have to wait another day to see my sister?" She asked, pouting slightly.
Alex laughed and patted her shoulder. "Why don't we waste some time exploring?" She led her towards Hargeon's market. "I bet we can find something for Sorano for when she shows up." When Yukino still looked unsure, Alex added, "I could tell you how I met your sister."
Yukino's eyes lit up with excitement, and Alex spent the rest of the day telling her stories about her sister and her adventures since she joined Fairy Tail.
After a few hours, the duo decided to stop for some lunch. "I still can't believe Sorano used to be a bad guy," Yukino said, taking a drink of her hot chocolate.
Alex grimaced slightly. "I wouldn't say she was a bad guy," she protested. "I don't think she had a choice. Sorano didn't have the greatest life when she was captured, but she's working hard to make up for what her kidnappers forced her to do in the past."
Yukino nodded thoughtfully. "I guess that makes sense." She was silent for a minute. "Sorano is supposed to be here tomorrow, right?"
Alex nodded. "I told my team to meet us here to wish our guildmates good luck. The Master will be here too, so we can officially make you a member." Yukino beamed, excited. "Come on. We should get Sorano a present." Yukino smiled and nodded. The girls spent the rest of the day wandering around the various shops looking to find a present for Yukino's older sister.
The next day
Alex and Yukino stood at the edge of the docks while the S-Class exam takers walked up. Natsu grinned and waved at the two. "Hey, Alex! Come to wish us luck?"
Alex chuckled. "Something like that."
Lucy smiled and looked at Yukino. "And who's this with you?" She asked.
Alex was about to answer when they heard a shocked gasp. She turned to see her team and her sister Amber standing a few feet away. Sorano had dropped a shopping bag she was carrying. "Yukino?" She asked. Yukino smiled and nodded at the woman in front of her. Sorano cried and ran towards the girl. "I missed you so much!" She cried, holding onto her little sister. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you when we were younger. I'll never leave you again."
Yukino looked up at Sorano's face with a teary smile. "It's okay, big sis. I know it wasn't your fault."
Eric smirked and walked over to a smiling Alex. "So this is what you were planning."
Alex nodded and crossed her arms. "I would have told Sorano sooner, but I didn't want to get her hopes up in case I was wrong." She smiled softly. "I'm glad I wasn't. She looks so much happier now that she has her sister back."
Master Makarov walked over to the group. "Mira said we might have a new member when I arrived," he said, grinning. He pointed to Yukino. "Am I right to assume that's her?" Alex nodded to the Master. "It's a good thing I brought the stamp then." He walked over to the two sisters, and Alex walked over to Lucy and Gray.
"I can't believe you won't be coming with us," Gray muttered, crossing his arms. "Usually, all of the S-Class members come along."
"Really?" Lucy asked, curious. "Why aren't you coming then, Alex?"
Alex closed her eyes. "The Master and I agreed I needed to stay at the guild," she said carefully. "We think the guild will have too hard of a time without all of you around."
"Something bad happens, doesn't it?" Gajeel asked, walking up to them. When they looked at him, surprised, he rolled his eyes. "It wasn't that hard to figure out, you know. Erza, Mira, and Gildarts were talking intense strategy, and even the Master looks on edge right now."
The group looked over to where the Master was talking to Yukino. He was smiling, but there was a tenseness around his eyes that wasn't there before.
Lucy nodded thoughtfully. "I hadn't noticed it, but they have been agitated this past week." She turns to Alex. "What would happen that would make everyone so nervous?"
Alex crossed her arms and sighed. "I can't tell you. All I can say is it gets bad." She looked over to where the boat was pulling up to the docks. "Just be on your toes, guys," She said when Natsu and Happy walked up. "You're going to be dealing with much more than the exams while you're out there."
Lucy looked like she was going to say more when Yukino ran up to Alex, grinning. "Alex-nee! I got my guild mark!" She pulled up her shirt a little to show a white Fairy Tail mark on her hip. "Sorano-nee got to put it on for me."
Alex grinned. "It's right where her mark is, too, I see." The twelve-year-old blushed slightly and nodded. Alex chuckled and patted her head. "I'm happy for you, short-stuff." She looked over to where the Master was standing. "Looks like my friends will be leaving now. I need to talk to the Master before they leave. Why don't you all wait here, and we'll head back to the guild when I get back?" Yukino nodded and ran back to her sister.
Alex walked over to where the Master was. "That will be the last member I welcome to the guild for a while, I think," The Master said, grinning ruefully. "I'm glad I was able to do that."
"Don't be silly, Master. Since you and the others are more prepared, this should be no problem."
The Master chuckled and watched the members interact as they climbed on the boat. "I won't kid myself, Alex. We'll be able to beat Grimoire Heart, and I don't doubt it. But Acnologia? We'll be lucky to escape with our lives." He raised his hand to keep her from interrupting. "I know you said we would be back after seven years, but I just don't see how. Don't worry, I'll make sure my children get home safe, but by then, you all will have a new Master."
Alex looked ready to argue but stopped herself. "There's no way I can convince you otherwise, is there?" She asked. She smiled and shook her head, exasperated. "You're so stubborn," She muttered. She took the stamp when he handed it to her. "Don't worry, Master. I'll make sure the guild stays in one piece until you all return."
Master Makarov chuckled. "Now, who's the stubborn one?" He walked towards the boat. "Take care, my child. You have a long road ahead of you now."
Alex watched and waved at her friends as they took off on the boat. When the boat was out of sight, she joined her team and housemates. "Don't worry," Yukino said, seeing Alex's face. "They'll be back soon."
Alex forced a grin on her face and pulled Amber in for a hug. "Yeah, they'll be back." She turned to Yukino. "Did you give Sorano her present yet?"
Yukino beamed, excited. "Oh yeah!" She reached into her pocket and pulled out a Platinum key with a bright yellow sun on it. "I found this and wanted to have it. It's Helios, the Sun key."
Sorano looked at it in surprise. "Where did you both find this?"
"One of the merchants around here found it on a trip to the dessert," Alex said. She looked at her team. "So, why don't you all tell me about Amber's first job? We can go back to Magnolia while you talk."
The group started telling Alex about their trip as they climbed into a carriage and made it back to Magnolia.
When they made it back to the guild, it was in mid-celebration. The guild was celebrating the departure of the S-Class Exam participants. They were also planning the celebration of who passed the Exam. The Oracion Seis hung around the guild for a few hours to celebrate Yukino becoming a member before going home for the night.
The next day found Alex meditating in the forest behind her home while Amber trained. She closed her eyes and concentrated on her magic. After a few minutes, she felt her magic tugging at her, and she let it pull her deeper inside of her mind. When she opened her eyes, it was dark. "Hello?" She asked, standing up. "What's going on?"
"It's about time you got here," A voice said. A purple-haired woman walked over to her. She looked similar to Alex's Demon form. "You've been trying for over a week to get here. Now, what do you want?"
Alex looked at the woman standing beside her. "You're my inner Demon?" She asked. When the woman rolled her eyes and nodded, she continued. "Laxus seems to think if I talk to you, I can better control my Demon form."
The woman snorted. "Please. I am your Demon form. And there's nothing you can do to control me. I do what I want when I want. You just happen to be the meat suit I got stuck in, so your desires sometimes mesh with mine."
"Wait, stuck in?" Alex asked, confused. "What are you talking about? Who are you?"
The Demon smiled and crossed her arms. "You can call me Hotaru. When you and your sister were brought here by the Anima, my body was destroyed by an annoying Ice Devil Slayer. Before he could devour my soul, before you ask, yes, you should be able to eat Demon souls as a Devil Slayer," She mentioned when she saw Alex's surprised face. "Anyway, before he could devour my soul, I was able to take refuge in your body, which is why you weren't dragged up to Edolas with your sister." Hotaru looked up, curious, before turning back to Alex. "Now that you made it to this little corner of your mind, it will be a lot easier for you to get here next time. Until then, we'll have to call it quits. Your friends are calling you."
"Alex!" Alex looked up when she heard her name being called. "Alex! Your communications lacrima is lighting up!"
Alex looked to Hotaru. "How do I get out of here?"
"The same way you got in," Hotaru said, raising an eyebrow. "You do remember how you got here, right?"
"Didn't you pull me here?" Alex asked, incredulous and Hotaru just shrugged. Alex rolled her eyes and sat down in a lotus position. She began to concentrate until she could see a light in her eyes.
When she opened them again, she was in the forest, and her sister was in her face, annoyed. "Now you wake up. Your lacrima has been going off for at least ten minutes." Alex turned to her lacrima and picked it up. "What were you doing anyway?"
"Connecting with my inner demon," Alex said before looking at her lacrima, confused as it glowed. "Who's calling me?"
Amber crossed her arms. "I don't know." She sat down beside her sister. "Are you going to answer it?"
Alex nodded and answered the lacrima. "Hello?" She asked as the picture got into focus. "Who's calling?"
"Alex!" Natsu and Lucy cheered when they appeared on the screen. "What took you so long?" Natsu demanded.
"I was busy," Alex defended. "Besides, I wasn't expecting a call. How were the exams?"
"They were great!" Lucy cheered. "Cana made S-Class!"
"Yeah," Natsu grumbled. "Her and Lucy were the only ones to find Master Mavis's grave." He looked at Alex. "Why didn't you tell us Mest was Doranbolt?"
"He was?" Alex asked, confused. She thought for a moment as her memories were repaired. "That asshole! He is so getting punched the next time I see him."
"Looks like Alex's memories were messed with too," Lucy said, chuckling. "Anyway, the Master made fighting the Grimoire Heart members as part of the exams."
"Yeah," Natsu grinned. "It was awesome! I got to fight a Fire God Slayer!"
"And you guys handled it alright?" Alex asked, concerned. "Nothing went wrong, did it?"
Lucy laughed and shook her head. "Don't worry, Alex! Everything went fine. Especially when Laxus decided to show up." Alex sighed relief. "You were worried about us, weren't you?"
"Of course," Alex retorted. "You guys are my friends, and I want you all to get home safe."
"I wouldn't worry about that," Laxus said, taking the lacrima from Natsu. He grinned when he looked at Alex as Natsu complained about him taking his lacrima. "Told you I'd make sure everyone was safe."
Alex smiled softly at Laxus. "Hey, Sparkles. Glad you decided to show up. Are you all coming home soon?"
Laxus nodded. "Gramps is getting everything packed into the boat now. He said I could hitch a ride back to port before I need to go back to being banished." He raised an eyebrow. "We still need to talk when I get back."
Amber grinned. "Ooh! What are you two going to talk about?"
Alex rolled her eyes. "Nothing you need to worry about, sis."
Amber huffed and crossed her arms. She stood up. "Fine. I'm going back to training. When you get done talking to your boyfriend, why don't you join me?" Alex didn't bother trying to correct her sister and nodded as her sister walked away.
"So I'm your boyfriend?" Laxus asked teasingly.
Alex tried to hide the blush that was forming by rolling her eyes. "You wish, Sparkles." She looked at the sky to avoid his gaze. "You all are coming back soon, right?"
Laxus nodded. "Don't worry; we'll be back in Magnolia soon." He looked off the screen of the lacrima. "We're about to leave, so I need to hang up." She looked back at the lacrima. "See you soon, Firefly." He hung up before she could respond.
Amber giggled. "Firefly?" She asked. "Is that his name for you? It's adorable."
Alex shook her head and stood up. "First time I've heard it." She looked at her little sister. "Let's get to training then, shall we?"
The two sisters sparred for a few hours before Romeo came running up to them. "Alex! Come to the guildhall quick." The boy was panting. "Lahar from the Magic council is there."
Alex frowned. "Something is wrong," She muttered. She grabbed her sister and Romeo and used her lightning travel to get to Fairy Tail quickly.
When she arrived, Lahar was looked up, surprised. "You weren't on Tenroujima with the others," he said.
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Don't sound too disappointed, Lahar. I'll begin to think you don't like me." She crossed her arms and glared at him. "Why are you here? What happened?"
Lahar began to tell the present members of Fairy Tail what had happened on Tenroujima. Acnologia had appeared, and the giant black dragon had destroyed the island before the members on the island could leave.
The members of Fairy Tail that were left behind were shocked. Many, like Jet, Droy, and Laki, were in tears. After a few minutes, Lahar stood up. "I've never been a fan of Fairy Tail, but I am sorry for your loss." He turned to the door. "I know this is a touchy subject right now, but you all will need to appoint a new Master to remain a guild. Please have your choice ready in about a week for the Council."
After a few moments of silence, Macao reached into his pocket and grabbed a letter. "The Master said if something were to happen to him during the Exam to read this. I guess now would be a good time as any." He opened the letter and began to read it out loud.
"My dear children. If you are reading this, it means something happened that we could not prevent, and I cannot be your master at the moment. Tenroujima has been destroyed. You don't need to worry, though, for we are not gone. We are merely lost at the moment. I have already decided who will be Master in my absence. I appoint Alex to be Master while I am gone. I know she will do Fairy Tail proud and keep the guild going strong. Listen to her and have faith she knows what she is doing. Until I see you all again, Master Makarov, third Master of Fairy Tail."
Macao and the rest of Fairy Tail looked up to see Alex look surprised. He sighed. "Looks like the Master has spoken. Alex, you've been chosen to be our new Master. Do you accept the position?"
Alex looked at the Fairy Tail members surrounding her. The former Oracion Seis was standing the closest to her and her sister. "You don't have to be Master if you don't want to," Sorano said. "We'll support you if you refuse."
Erik nodded, concerned. He held onto Kinana to comfort the girl. "I know what the old man said, but the guild's fate doesn't rest on your shoulders."
Alex looked to her team and roommates. "You'll be here for me?" She asked, nervous. They nodded, and she sighed in resignation. "Then I'll accept the burden of being Master." She looked at them and smiled. "Master Makarov trusted me with this burden because he believed I could handle it. And I'm going to do the best I can to make sure our Tenroujima friends have a guild to return to."
The guild smiled and cheered. "Alright then, Master Alex," Sawyer grinned when Alex groaned at the name. "What's first on the agenda?"
Alex frowned and looked around at the guild as they started cleaning and talking about what they were going to do to find their missing guildmates. "Honestly? I have no idea."
And there you have it! This is the last chapter for this story. I hope you liked it everybody. Making Alex the Master of Fairy Tail was something I thought pretty hard on and I hope you all are looking forward to what she can do as Master. I do not have anything ready for the next story ready though, and I want to have a few chapters typed up before I even think about posting it. So please be patient everyone. And if your wondering, yes we will be seeing Hotaru after this. I think I'm going to have fun writing her. I'm hoping to have the next story posted before Summer ends, but I won't make any promises. So until then, Bye everyone!
