Chapter 39: The new trainer in town
Ethan and Lyra had set off back to Ecruteak from Olivine so Lyra could get the badge from Morty she missed out on. It had been almost two days since they head off, and they made sure to get some training as they went on as they went.
"So, it looks like my Pokégear says we're about a day off from reaching Ecruteak." Lyra said, eyes on her Pokégear.
"Mine too..." Ethan said. "Man, I can't wait till we get there, *I've been holding my poop for the past two days*"
"What was that Ethan?" Lyra asked, not having heard him.
"N-never mind..." Ethan said.
"Bay, Bay..." Bayleef agreed, sweating a lot under the hot sun.
"What do you want to do once we get there, Lyra?" Ethan asked.
"You mean other than challenging Morty?" Lyra said.
"Well yeah, any plans?" Ethan asked.
"Hmm, I don't know, maybe I'll go the dance theater, you remember the Kimono girls?" Lyra asked.
"Oh, I remember the Kimono girl's alright." Ethan said perversely.
"Hey!" Lyra said, shoving him in the elbow.
"Heheh, sorry!" Ethan apologized rubbing his neck, making Bayleef smile.
It was then when Ethan, who wasn't watching where he was going, bumped into a man, a man he'd seen before, this man had deep black hair and wore a green turtleneck, Ethan instantly recognized him.
"Watch where you're goi-" Before the man could finish, he took notice of Ethan and recognized the boy.
"Y-you, Ethan! It's you!" He said, starting to laugh hysterically.
"You know this guy?" Lyra whispered in Ethan's ear.
"Yes, I'm Ethan. I'm guessing you know me from me A Slice of Life with Professor Oak?" Ethan replied.
"W-what, n-no." The man said sounding disappointed Ethan didn't remember. "we met in Ilex Forest, you lent me your Flaaffy, you helped find my boss's Farfetch'd!"
"Heheh, I'm just playing around with you, of course I remember you, Seymour." Ethan finally said, revealing he was just kidding.
"Oh, that's great to hear, it's nice to see you again kid." He said, he turned to Lyra and then back. "Who's this, girlfriend?"
"Oh, uh... actually she's my friend and rival Lyra." Ethan said, rubbing the back of his head. "We're both heading to Ecruteak together."
"Hey Seymour!" Lyra said, waving to him.
"Greetings!" Seymour said, shaking Lyra's hand.
"So, I don't see any bags, does that mean you did it?" Ethan asked.
"Yup, I finally decided to quit my job and become a Trainer!" Seymour said. "Well, that's not exactly right... Technically I was fired."
"Oh man, you were fired, tough boss huh," Ethan said.
"Don't worry it was for good reason, he said he wanted to see me go on a journey of my own, even let me keep his Farfetch'd, want to see?" Seymour said, taking out a Pokéball.
"Yeah, remember Farfetch'd, Bayleef?" Ethan asked his starter.
"Bay Bay!" She exclaimed as she went beside Ethan in excitement to see the Farfetch'd.
"Alright, Farfetch'd here!" Seymour said, releasing Farfetch'd from a Pokéball.
"Farfetch'd Farfetch'd!" Farfetch'd cried out upon being released. Upon laying eyes on Ethan his eyes lit up with excitement.
"Yup, it's me, we met at Ilex Forest I'm sure you remember!" Ethan said, going down on his knees to pet it.
"Farfetch'd Far!" Farfetch'd responded happily.
"Bay!" Bayleef greeted as she walked up to it.
Farfetch'd smiled back at her and waved hello.
"What a cutie!" Lyra said, she tried to pet the Farfetch'd, but it knocked her hand away with its celery.
"What's wrong!?" Lyra asked confused.
"S-sorry, Farfetch'd kind of has trust issues, he only trusts me, and Ethan since Ethan saved him." Seymour apologized.
"Oh, no need to apologize, I get it." Lyra smiled.
"So, how's the journey been so far?" Ethan asked.
"Good actually, I just came back from Violet City and actually managed to get one of these!" Seymour said revealing a carrying case with the Zeypher badge. "And on my first try!"
"That's great, you should be proud of yourself, it took me two tries to get that badge!" Ethan said.
"You lost to Falkner!?" Lyra said smiling.
"Hey, no shame in it, and plus Bayleef or Chikorita as she was at the time beat Falkner's Pidgeot no problem!" Ethan gloated.
"Bay!" Bayleef agreed, although she felt that that she didn't win, *no problem* she still did well.
"Hey Ethan, how about a battle!?" Seymour asked. "A two on two, I have another Pokémon after all."
"Look who's all confident, sure I can't turn down a challenge, but..." Ethan said, pointing to the badges on his jacket. "You think you can beat me; remember I have six times the badges as you."
"You never know Ethan; Seymour could surprise you." Lyra told him.
"Well, I'm not saying that... but the badges don't lie." Ethan said, still gloating. "How about I only use one Pokémon instead of two?"
"Underestimate me and it'll be your downfall, isn't that right Farfetch'd?" Seymour asked his Pokémon.
"Farfetch'd!" Farfetch'd shouted, showing it was ready for battle.
"Alright Ethan, let's do this!" Seymour exclaimed.
"Okay then, Bayleef, let's show him how it's done!" Ethan said, Bayleef leaped in front of him forming a battle stance.
Farfetch'd got in position too, not showing any fear.
"We'll begin, Farfetch'd use Air Slash!" Seymour yelled.
Farfetch'd listened and shot out a decently quick shock wave from a flap of its wing at Bayleef.
"That'll be Super effective if it lands." Lyra said.
"Bayleef dodge it!" Ethan shouted.
Bayleef jumped out the way and avoided the hit.
"Err... Agility!" Seymour yelled.
Farfetch'd appeared behind Bayleef, before disappearing and going and reappearing making Bayleef look around trying to lock eyes on the real one than the afterimage.
Farfetch'd reappeared behind Bayleef, Bayleef turned her face, but it was too late, upon turning she was struck at close range by another Air Slash, causing an eruption of smoke.
"Bayleef..." Lyra said.
"Yes, we're already winning this!" Seymour said.
"Really, I wouldn't be so sure of yourself?" Ethan said. Once the smoke cleared, Bayleef stood tall, not having took critical damage from the attack.
"Bay!" She yelled, exclaiming she was okay.
"F-Far!?" Farfetch'd said surprised at Bayleef's immense strength.
"Bayleef, use Vine Whip!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef, only using one whip slashed Farfetch'd across the face, sending him crashing to the ground right before Seymour.
"No, Farfetch'd can you continue!?" Seymour blurted out.
Farfetch'd began to get back up but fell upon fainting, it was over.
"Bayleef, you're doing great!" Ethan told her.
"Bay!" Bayleef said nodding her head.
"Awe man, Farfetch'd you fought well, return." Seymour said as returned his Pokémon and pulled a second ball. "Alright, this next one is my strongest Pokémon, Bayleef may not be able to win this one."
"You'd better hope you're right!" Ethan said smiling.
"Go, Pinsir!" Seymour yelled as he threw his Pokéball.
"Pinsir!" Pinsir screeched upon being released, its eyes lit up upon seeing Ethan and Bayleef and it gave a smirk.
"That Pinsir..." Ethan muttered. "Could it be...?"
"Funny story how I caught this one, found it in a Pokéball in Ilex Forest, sad story, no clue how long it'd been trapped in there." Seymour said. "So, I took it with me, Pinsir was a bit disobedient at first but I think it likes me now!"
Pinsir smiled as he glared at Bayleef, Bayleef recognized it and entered her fiercest looking stance.
"We're not going to lose this, Bayleef!" Ethan announced.
"Bayleef!" Bayleef said, gritting her teeth.
"Man, that Pinsir looks fierce, good luck Ethan!" Lyra yelled.
"Now, Bug Bite and fast!" Seymour yelled, Pinsir listened and pounced at Bayleef, Bayleef luckily dodged just in time.
It's as fast as I remember... Ethan realized, taking the battle completely serious.
"X Scissor!" Seymour yelled.
Pinsir formed an X with its arms and tried to slash Bayleef, but Bayleef again dodged.
"Bay!" Bayleef said, as she landed back on her feet.
We're doing just fine... Ethan thought. "Bayleef, Razor Leaf!"
Bayleef swung her leaf and fired many sharp leaves at Pinsir, knocking it back to the floor before it landed back on its feet.
"Pinsir!" It said, shrugging off the not so effective damage.
Hmph, strong as I remember too... Ethan thought.
"Pinsir, Swords Dance!" Seymour yelled, Pinsir listened, and increased its speed after being engulfed in a white energy.
"Pinsirrr!" It roared ferociously.
"Now X Scissor, once more!" Seymour yelled, once again Pinsir came and slashed at Bayleef, to which she luckily managed to dodge, even with Pinsir's increased speed, albeit just barely.
Ethan looked over to Bayleef, he noticed a large cut on her cheek she was bleeding from, making him feel uneasy.
"Rock Smash!" Seymour yelled, Pinsir jumped and smashed with his claw into the ground trying to smash Bayleef with the debris, but Bayleef managed to dodge.
"Don't let up Pinsir!" Seymour yelled.
Pinsir continued to smash the rock, Bayleef tried to dodge it all, but managed to get hit with some debris.
"That's right, Bayleef use Light Screen!" Ethan exclaimed.
Bayleef covered herself with her shield, allowing her to not get hit by the shield.
"Shoot, X Scissor!" Seymour yelled.
Pinsir listened and forming a X smashed into the shield, breaking it entirely as it was a psychic move and Pinsir was a bug type.
"Bayleef!" Ethan yelled concerned.
"Ethan... may lose this one." Lyra realized.
Bayleef fell to the ground as Pinsir landed a heavy Double Hit attack at her.
"B-Bay..." She said, as she struggled to get up.
"Hmph, now, leap up and use Rock Smash!" Seymour yelled.
Pinsir listened, leaping up into the air for a Rock Smash attack, Bayleef managed to get up right before it could land however.
"Bayleef, anticipate it and use Vine Whip when the time is right!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef listened, upon Pinsir coming in close with the hit, Bayleef sidestepped it, although she was not able to dodge all the debris hitting her.
"Now X Sciss-" Seymour didn't finish as he realized Bayleef's Vine Whip tightly grasping Pinsir's arm.
"P-Pinsir!?" Pinsir said confused.
"Now lift!" Ethan yelled, Bayleef listened and lifted Pinsir all the way to the air.
"P-Pinsir!" Pinsir screeched as Bayleef wrapped further Vine Whips around its body.
"Now smash it!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef listened and dropped Pinsir into the ground, smashing him headfirst into the dirt at extremely fast speed.
"P-Pinsir!" Seymour yelled.
Once the smoke cleared, Pinsir fell to its knees and whited out, the battle was over.
"Whew, good job Bayleef!" Ethan said happily. Bayleef ran up to him and he pet her on the head.
"Awe man. Pinsir back to me..." Seymour said as he returned his Pokémon.
"Wow, what an amazing battle, got me all pumped up!" Lyra said to Ethan.
"Oh, and you did great too Seymour!" She told him as he walked up to them.
"Yeah, she's not lying, You actually had Bayleef on the ropes there, and that's no small accomplishment!" Ethan said with a thumbs up.
"Stop you'll make me blush." Seymour joked, making Ethan and Lyra laugh.
"Well anyway, I must get going, got to head to Olivine for my second gym match! I'll see you later I hope!" Seymour said as he took his leave.
"Isn't it a little too soon to be taking on Jasmine, sure his Pinsir is extremely strong but he's not ready!" Ethan asked Lyra.
"Ethan, don't you know Gym leaders have separate teams they use depending on their challengers' number of badges.
"R-really, I had no idea!?" Ethan said, looking over to Bayleef.
"You did great Bayleef, I ought to get you some real food once we get to Ecruteak!" Ethan told her.
"Bay Bay!" Bayleef nodded.
"Hey, before we go on, what do you say we have a rematch!?" Lyra suggested. "I'm really in the mood after seeing your match with Seymour!"
"W-what you want to battle again! This girl's too much!" Ethan joked, making Lyra laugh, although he was half serious.
Hey, bit of a filler chapter I know but I really liked that Seymour from all the way back In chapter 16 and felt like having him return, if you skipped some chapter back in front then you must be pretty confused, also please leave reviews as always!
