Hello all!

Welcome to anothe... Wait wait wait don't throw bricks at me! please... I can explain!

so... yeah... I was a far too ambitious boi and decided to take on 4 stories at once, and i am constantly getting inspiration for new ones. for example i have 4 other story ideas that I hope to be doing. and so i write down my ideas for them so i dont forget, and when i sit down to write my mind wanders all over the place... actually this chapter was supposed to be longer... about 2x times the current length, but I havent even started on the second half of it, so I decided to appease you with this and then the next part can be its own separate chapter. so because writers block sucks... do be patient will you?

anyway here. now I'm gonna go put some ice on these bruises...

Chapter 39- "Valka's Mountain."

(cami's perspective)

We just stared in awe at the massive dragon before us.

Glacier was easily another half times bigger than the queen.

He raised his head so he was eye level with the ledge we were standing atop, he glanced at each of us in turn.

He sniffed each of us in turn, he seemed to take special interest in Hiccup but quickly moved on, after he'd gotten the scent of all of us he breathed a small cold breeze upon us and frosted our hair.

"With the icy breath… that's stuck in your hair, he built this sanctuary for all kinds of dragons." the woman chuckled upon seeing those of us that had longer hair trying to free our hair of the frosty ice that would most likely ruin it

The woman chuckled before handing Avery a small wooden brush.

Avery began brushing the chunks of ice out of her hair before handing the brush to Heather.

Heather did the same before handing it to me.

The dragons seemed to come to their senses. All our dragons rushed to each of us. We hugged and soothed our dragons as they nuzzled and soothed us.

"I'm quite surprised to have found others who have dragons as companions." the woman admitted

"You're the only viking here?" Heather asked

"I wouldn't call myself a Viking but yes." the woman replied

"You must get lonely." I noted

"Dragons are all the company I need."

"You don't have Friends or Family or a Village to go back to?" Hiccup asked

"No, if I were to return many questions would be asked, my dragons wouldn't be accepted and I'd have to face my husband's disappointed glare." she said sadly

"A bewilderbeast…" Wodensfang breathed in surprise.

He immediately landed on the ledge and gave a small bow to the exceptionally larger dragon.

"I thought they'd all gone extinct." he murmured.

"Glacier may be the last of his kind." the woman said sadly

"Sadly the same could be said of Toothless." the Wodensfang agreed

"Who's Toothless?" the woman asked

"The Nightfury, ask Hiccup about the name." Thuggory answered as he chuckled.

"Hiccup?" the woman asked

"Thats me." Hiccup said

"The name has gone out of use in most tribes." the woman stated peculiarly

"Yeah, my grandfather on my fathers side is quite archaic." Hiccup explained

"Who's your father? Hiccup" the woman asked.

"Stoick the Vast, Chief of Berk, Father to me only through blood." Hiccup replied.

The woman gasped before going silent.

"Why do you say that about your father?" the woman finally asked

Hiccup was about to answer before he stopped and then said something else

"Why do you ask?" he inquired.

The woman seemed to be uneasy having the questions directed at her now.

"Is there something we should know about you?" Avery asked

"Something that might concern our safety?" Heather added

"Do you know who I am, or have any guess about my identity?" the woman asked

"No, but I do know that we should be worried about it." Thuggory said defensively.

The dragons seemed to be a middle man, where they were kinda aggressive but also trying to be passive, but they weren't neutral… almost like they were being both passive and aggressive at the exact same time.

"You've seen that Dragons aren't cold hearted killers… Hiccup you mentioned your father but not your mother?" the woman said

The random jump in topic worried me

"No, she was taken by a dragon when I was…" he started to explain before looking up at the woman in shock.

The woman gave a slight nod to indicate we'd all come to the right conclusion.

(Avery's Perspective)

Hiccup didn't seem to know how to respond… none of us did.

"I know it's hard to take in, hard to accept that I'm alive."

After Hiccups mother said that Hiccup seemed to figure out how to respond

"No. What's hard to accept, is that you never came back." he spat.

"I wish I could Hiccup, but I can't, you all know why." she explained as she gestured at the dragons around her.

"No. You don't wish you could. You said it yourself 'dragons are all the company [you] need' I retorted

"It's not that simple." the woman replied.

"It's very simple. You chose the dragons over your son and your husband." Cami angrily refuted.

Even the dragons had finally picked a side, all of ours were standing defensively around us.

Hiccup's mothers dragons took this as an attack on their human ally and began to aggressively defend her.

"Why did you never return?" Hiccup asked sadly.

"Lives were in the balance Hiccup, I had to save them." she replied sorrowfully

"At the cost of almost losing Hiccup?" Cami argued back.

"I lost both Hiccup and Stoick that day." the estranged mother replied

"Yeah well, you nearly caused Midgard to lose him as well!" Cami shouted

The implications of those words hit me before anyone else.

When I glanced at Hiccup he had his head down and seemed ashamed, not angry or sad, but ashamed.

I glanced at the mother, seeing her shocked expression made me go ballistic.

With every word, every sentence I stomped towards her

"You didn't even think of the consequences of your actions beyond 'save the dragons' did you?!"

The woman pitifully shook her head.

"I'd like to know who you think you are to think it'd be ok to just leave, who you think he is to just abandon him and think it'd be ok?!"

"I didn't…"

"You didn't, what? Think how it would affect your son? How it would affect your husband?"

"No…" she shamefully agreed

"We went to Berk. we spent less than a day there before we were treated like… like… like Dragon dung, and in that one time I can tell that Hiccup was not treated well, his Psychotic cousin certainly wouldn't defend him, his 'friends' left him at his bullies mercy, his tribe belittled him and his efforts, his father ignored him! and through it all. Where the Thor were you?! Here sitting cocooned in hundreds of dragon wings?!"

"Avery I think you've spoken all our minds." Thuggory said quietly as he pulled me away from the woman.

His tone was sharp and quiet, conveying his anger, but also his caring for us.

The dragons were still angry with each other and even Wodensfang got involved.

The Bewilderbeast behind us brought up its head and gave a small roar, that was deafening for us, and to completely cut the brewing tension he even blasted an ice wall between us.

He snorted heavily in irritation, I was unsure if he had really taken a side or was just annoyed that we were disturbing him.

I let Thuggory drag me to the other side of the sanctuary where Heather and Cami had coaxed Hiccup to follow them to.

We were all very heated at the moment and just sat down and thought of all that transpired.

Without any regard for the slumbering Bewilderbeast below (or she just didn't care) Heather shouted: "How could you?" across the sanctuary, if there was a response (which I doubt there was one) we didn't hear it.

We stayed in the sanctuary for some time, we set up a small shelter on the far side of the cavern. A small alcove in the wall was where our sleeping bags went. Other than sleeping and eating our days were spent meeting all the new dragons.

Most of us avoided Hiccup's mother, I of course was the exception, while I wanted nothing to do with the heartless women I couldn't let my anger with her interfere with my duty to provide medical care, namely to all the freed dragons she keeps bringing here. Other than that I kept my distance from her much like the others.

We all had different reactions to this revelation; Hiccup was sad, I was apocalyptic, Cami was caring even though I could tell she was as furious as I was, Heather was furious like me and Cami but she was more composed about it, and Thuggory legitimately didn't seem to know how to react, normally he'd be joking but he seemed to know now wasn't the time, but he wasn't the touchy feely type.

The next day I realized we kept getting side tracked from our search for Oswald.

"You're aware of Drago right?" I asked as the two of us tended to some of the injured dragons she had freed.

She nodded.

"Have you heard from Oswald?" I inquired.

"Which Oswald?"

"Oswald the agreeable, former Chief of the Berserkers, father to Heather and Dagur." I recited.

"No, I was unaware of his involvement." Valka replied with surprise.

"Yeah we've been trying to find him after his disappearance several years ago. We learned he may have sought help from Drago, then we learned what God's Drago believes in and then found their origins and came here, where we met Eret and then you." I explained the short version of our quest.

"So you've come searching for Oswald?" she asked

"Yes."

"And you thought he came here?"

"No, we learned Oswald disappeared one day, we kind of figured out that he'd try and end the dragon war peacefully if at all, all we had was a note from him to Dagur saying he was gonna find someone who could help with the dragons. Since we believe he'd try the peaceful option we then went to the Peaceable tribe… I say 'we' but up until now it was just Hiccup, Cami, Thuggory and Heather. I joined them once we met each other on the Peaceable isle; where I'm from. Anyway, we learned about the gathering of the chieftains, your husband attended, and claims he was the only one to survive after 'Dargo' as he calls him attacked. Your husband gave us the names of the God's Drago claimed had sent him and we went in search of the Hysterics, because they've been pretty much everywhere. After we; us, the Hysterics and our dragons defeated this giant evil queen dragon, we learned that Tyr and Vidar are based in the North. And so we headed this way, we met Eret, Hiccup surrendered to him so he could take us to Drago and then you showed up." I sighed once I'd finished.

She was silent for quite a while

"Tell me about my son?" she asked

I stopped lathering a dragon's wound to glare at her.

The dragon groaned once it noticed I had stopped so I resumed the 'massage'

"There are plenty of people you could ask, you could ask his father or the village of berk how he was treated, you could ask Cami since she's known him the longest of our little group, you could ask Thuggory what kind of things they talk about as boy's, you could ask me about his kindness, you could ask Heather about his protectiveness, you could ask Taryn about what he's like when he's using his imagination, Heck, just ask him!"

"I can't, not after the hurt I've caused." she mumbled.

"You could always, y'know try and fix it." I snapped snarkily.

She didn't respond after that, not that she could.

"Also Hiccup's not the only one you have to fix things with." I added after a moment.

"My husband, yes I'm aware." she sighed sadly

"No… Cami. seeing as she may be your daughter-in-law soon." I smirked at seeing her expression.

"Are… are you saying they are together?" she asked

"Yeah. have been since I met them, and since Heather met them, and I think Thuggory was present when they finally confessed to each other."

"So… me and Bertha may be grandparents?"

"Hiccup's holding off on that at least till they're married, which I can agree with."

It was silent for several seconds where we both turned back to tending this dragon.

"Do you have someone?"

"Ummm what?" I asked

"You said you agree with that, but you don't seem to be with anyone?"

"Well, you'd be right; I'm not with someone, but seeing as you can't see Cami and Hiccup's relationship, I wouldn't be surprised if you were wrong." I answered back.

"You seem defensive." she observed

"If I am it's because I consider you a threat to our family."

"You've become attached to them… or a 'him'."

I remained quiet because she was beginning to get on my nerves, I hoped my silence signified I wanted to end the conversation.

"When you spend nearly 15 years with creatures that can not speak you start to learn what different kinds of silence means." she hinted

"Now, I know it's not my son, you said it yourself, 'he's taken.' and you seem to be friendly with Heather but no further… so perhaps the brutish boy?"

"You've lived with no human contact for over a decade, what do you know?" I snapped

"We all have our areas of expertise." she said knowingly.

"I'm the doctor, you're the crazy dragon vigilante lady who's an expert on love.?" I remarked sarcastically

"Yeah." she admitted jokingly.

(Hiccup's perspective)

I watched as the strange cloud kept floating around Thuggory.

"What is that thing?" Heather asked

"How would I know? I broke it out of Eret's ship and it's followed me since." Thuggory explained

"Well it's clearly sentient then." I observed

The cloud suddenly stopped following Thuggory and began to swarm in front of Wodensfang.

Wodensfang began talking… to the cloud…

I knew old people get confused sometimes and might seem crazy (and this is coming from Vikings… that's saying something) but I didn't think it'd be the same for dragons.(2)

"I believe they're ears are not sensitive enough to hear you." he said to the cloud.

"Forgive them for their inferior design." he said after a moment.

Myself, Thuggory, Heather and Cami were looking at Wodensfang like he was crazy, which to us it seemed he was.

"Wodensfang?" I asked cautiously.

He turned to the rest of us.

"I'd like to introduce; King Ziggerastica, God-King of all nano dragons." Wodensfang declared

"Ziggy what?" Thuggory asked

The cloud parted and a single speck flew up and to Thuggory's ear.

"Ow! ok ok Ziggerastica!" Thuggory exclaimed.

The speck was about the size of an average insect. It was purple with a golden yellow top, and similar color streaks going down one side, upon closer inspection the speck was in fact an incredibly small dragon.(3)

The small dragon Ziggerastica landed on Thuggory's shoulder, once the speck was settled the rest of the cloud fluttered to Thuggory and perched all along his back, but gave Ziggerastica plenty of space.

"He can speak norse? Like Wodensfang?" I asked

"Like I had said before. Few dragons are able to, fewer want to, and even fewer manage to learn it. Ziggerastica seems to have been able to, wanted to, and managed to."

"He's not gonna be malevolent like the queen right?" Cami asked a little worriedly.

"He says no." Thuggory repeated what Ziggerastica had said in his ear.

"Ow! Ok, he says 'I don't stoop to cruelty.'"

He was bitten again

"Ow! Dude that hurts!"

Ziggerastica explained the problem to Thuggory before Thuggory then repeated to us:

"Ok fine! He says 'I do not stoop to cruelty.'"

Heather snickered at Ziggerastica's antics before saying "you two will get along just fine."

Avery then returned to see Thuggory covered in the specks which made him appear fuzzy.

"This is not what I expected to return to…" she stated.

My 'mother' was standing a little behind her.

"Also, Hiccup, your mother is very observant… a little too much."

My mother only gave a small sad smile

"What are the odds that while searching for my missing father we find your thought-to-be-deceased mother? What's next, Cami's father, Thug's sister?" Heather joked.

"I know where my father is." Cami replied.

"Really, I never met him?" I asked

"No you have, you worked for him for some time." Cami hinted.

"I've only ever worked for… Gobber! Gobber is your father?!"(4)

She nodded in confirmation.

"That… that explains quite a bit actually." I admitted

"And whats that supposed to mean?" Cami asked dangerously.

"Umm…" I looked to Heather or Avery for help but they just hung me out to dry.

"It means… that you understand my jokes and enjoy my sarcasm." I quickly recovered.

Valka smirked from behind Avery and gave me a thumbs up.

I wasn't too impressed by her attempt to subtly involve herself in the conversation. and it must have shown on my face because the others all turned to see what I was looking at.

Seeing all their guarded gazes my mother sheepishly lowered her hands and schooled her expression.

"Do you know where we could find Drago?" Heather asked; getting back on track.

"Oh no, even if I did know I wouldn't let you kids go find him. He's more cruel than he is human. He won't care that you're just searching for your missing father, and if I were to guess, if Oswald did find Drago and meet him, he never lived long enough to see his children again." my mother refused.

Heather frowned at that but didn't argue it.

"So do we just go home and tell Dagur that we're worried to go against some random tyrannical warlord, so we abandoned our search just before the end?" Cami asked

"If that option doesn't appeal to you… you could always stay here." my mother offered shyly

We all pretty much exploded at that.

"No! Why would we stay isolated here with no human company but you?!" Cami exclaimed

"Why would you even suggest that?!" Heather yelled

"What?!" Thuggory asked

"Who are you?! You're barely his mother, that'd basically be like living with a stranger!" Avery retorted

"NO!" I shouted!

My mother seemed humbled at our reactions.

Wodensfang even gently led her away since her offer had put us all in a bad mood.

"No, she just doesn't have the best reputation with us right now." Thuggory said to his shoulder.

I assumed Ziggerastica had asked what just happened.

"Yeah, we're searching for a man named Oswald, Drago is just our best lead." Thuggory answered, presumably to Ziggerastica.

Two of the specks approached Ziggerastica's space on Thug's shoulder.

They seemed to converse before the other two flew away and out of sight.

"Where are they going?" I asked

"They have been sent to search for either Drago or Oswald." Thuggory said after hearing what Ziggerastica told him.

"So you're gonna help us? Heather asked.

Thuggory nodded to confirm what Ziggerastica had spoken to him.

"you're informal attitude is very irritating." we could barely hear Ziggerastica 'shout'

"I'm glad you enjoy my style of speech." Thug mocked.

Thuggory yelped again when Ziggerastica bit him once again.

"You need to chill man, one of these times I might forget it's you and not some stupid mosquito."

"Thug you forget that he has an army literally breathing down your neck." Heather quipped to him.

"I'm sure Shipwreck and I could handle them if need be."

Shipwreck shrugged in what we assumed meant an 'mm… not really' gesture.

"I wouldn't test the patience of the nano-dragon king." Wodensfang advised.

"Ok fine fine." Thuggory conceded.

During the afternoon we all just explored the sanctuary and all the dragons held within. We saw many breeds that we'd seen plenty of, but there were also just as many breeds that we'd never seen. We begrudgingly followed my mother as she introduced us to many different species of dragon, many of which were injured by traps laid by Drago.

"This one here is a Stormcutter, Cloudjumper."

"He's my dragon." she added

I noticed a scar on his crest. It made me think of the answer my dad had given me when I'd asked about my mother…

"Is he the one that took you?" I broke the silence as everyone else was admiring his 4 wings.

"Umm… yes." my mother replied.

Everyone suddenly stopped admiring the brilliant dragon.

The dragon and my mother both looked at me with regret.

"Do you know what dad told me about that night?"

She shook her head

"He told me that when he had turned around after saving me, that you hung in his claws, limp, without fighting back at all, not even struggling. And to top it off do you remember what you cried out?"

She shook her head.

"Or do you remember what you didn't cry out?"

She shook her head.

"When you were taken, you cried out for Stoick… and that's it. Not the small child you birthed that the very man you cried for was sheltering in his arms. You knew I was there. And yet you didn't cry out for me, or fight back to stay with either of us. You let yourself be taken." I berated quietly.

"I'm sorry…" she started

"No. do you know what my thoughts were the very next day? 'That you didn't want me, and you took the first opportunity to remove me from your life, or more accurately to remove you from mine, that you'd rather be carried off and killed by a dragon then deal with me!'" I exclaimed

"I'm sorry my actions have made you feel that way, but that is not true." she replied quietly.

We stood there in silence, I knew that it wasn't true, but couldn't bring myself to admit it aloud.

"Is that actually how you felt?" Avery asked slowly.

"Word for word more or less." I shrugged

All our moods changed and we didn't have much of an interest in Cloudjumper anymore.

So we all went to our side of the sanctuary where we had set up our camp.

Heather and Thuggory began sparring, Cami went off the play with Smoulder, Ziggerastica went to criticize Thuggory, and Avery grabbed Wodensfang to translate Nurse for her. Which left me alone with the other dragons.

"I'm trying." my mom said quietly from behind me.

"Trying to what?" I asked as I sat down at the edge overlooking Glacier. She hesitated before sitting to my side.

"Trying to make it right." she answered

"And how do you intend to do that?" I asked

"To be your mother now, to make up for the fifteen years I lost before." she answered soothingly.

"I'm not a child anymore. I've grown up without you."

A hurt and stricken look flashed across her face before settling to a more ashamed state.

"I know I've hurt you. But please give me the chance to make it right?" she asked

"I don't really have to give you permission to try, but I can't really tell you what to work better on, because frankly I don't know. I have no set rule for what decides when I accept you or not."

"I see, and I can only blame myself for that since you haven't had much of a maternal figure to compare to in your life."

"Well, I mean Bertha was basically a mother to me, or as close as she could get to being one, Tindra was like an aunt, and even Hildegard treated me like an adopted nephew of sorts just before we left. So I have had some good maternal figures in my life, but none have been exactly my flesh and blood mother."

"You've lost your family, left your family, created your family and then found your family; each shaped who you are. And I'm glad you've found people to turn to in my absence."

I didn't answer, there wasn't really an answer to that statement.

So we just sat there in silence watching the rise and fall of the great alphas slumbering form.

"Could… could you tell me about yourself?" she asked, breaking the silence.

"Where do you want me to start?"

"The beginning of this journey." she answered after a moment.

"On berk, after you left, I became the runt not only of the family but of the village, I was blamed for things that I had no involvement in and bullied simply for being there. Any time I tried to help my efforts were belittled or ignored entirely. I was framed for peeping on Astrid and my peers lied and claimed they were witnesses, so I decided that I had no purpose in life, and decided to end my mistreatment. Cami happened to be there and lifted me out of the way of the giant boulder. If she hadn't been there then none of us would be here, well except for you. Anyway, I had lost my will to kill myself, but my will to leave Berk was still strong, so I begged Cami to kidnap me. I escaped to live on the Bog Isles for about a year. I even became a Bog Burglar.

Then I met Toothless during a raid, I had climbed to the top of one of the catapults to act as a lookout to guide the Warriors below me which way certain dragon types were coming from. Toothless saw our success and decided to put a stop to it by blowing up the catapult, I jumped off and happened to land on him. In his attempt to shake me off we crashed through a net and sailed into the forests of the Bog Islands.

We both had many chances to kill each other, and yet neither took it.

We slowly bonded over the coming weeks when the Thing happened. During it I introduced Cami to Toothless, Thuggory found out accidentally, I confessed my crush on Cami, she confessed to me and Snotlout discovered my identity. The last point made Berk go crazy calling Cami a witch and claiming I was under her spell and such. They even went as far as to call a 'thundering' in which the two parties would offer offerings to the gods. Whichever one Thor chose would be considered right. With help from Norbert the Nutjob we skewed the results in our favor, after that Snotlout started a mutiny and dethroned Stoick and created a dictatorship, then with the help of Toothless and Thuggory's dragon whom we'd only met shortly before and Cami's dragon whom we met during the battle, we escaped with the Bogs and the secret was out, but contained only to the Bog women mind you. Later we met and helped Heather, after Cami had turned him down for the last time, Snotlout set his sights elsewhere. And had been pestering Dagur for a marriage contract. Heather then came to us for help, we figured it out by adding her to our little group so Snotlout wouldn't be able to reach her, Dagur then sent us to try and find his father, where we went to the Peaceable tribe in search of Oswald, we found and picked up Avery, then we went to Berk, where we learned Drago's name and the names of the Gods he believed in, from there we went to the Hysterics, where we had met Taryn. While on their ship we encountered a swarm of dragons, Wodensfang among them. He asked for our help to kill the tyrant queen, in the process Norbert was wounded and Taryn remained there to help her family and tribe. Then after learning where the Gods Drago believed in were from the north we came here, encountered Eret and then you." I explained

"Ah, most of it is similar to Avery's explanation." she admitted.

"Yeah, she wasn't present for much of the earlier bits."

"I… I'd like to… learn what made you want to…"

"... leave Berk?" I suggested

"Yeah yeah, we'll go with that." she stuttered

"When you left, Stoick only cared about the deaths of dragons, instead of the life of his son. So he ignored me, or pressured me to kill dragons or to fight back against my cousin or any other sort of 'viking thing' and every time I failed he gave me a disapproving scowl. Then when Snotlout realized that my father wouldn't defend me, he began to abuse my fathers negligence, by abusing me. I was bullied by him and the twins who acted as his bully buddies, soon they decided to see how far they could push the rules by bullying Fishlegs, in a successful attempt to get them to stop he joined their posse and began to ignore me much like others in the village. Astrid had also long since abandoned me in favor of vigorous training, but she wasn't content to ignore me as Fishlegs did, she orchestrated my framing and betrayed me.

Soon after Stoick disowned me in all but public announcement.

As time progressed my harassment became worse; in the beginning it was insults, then it became beatings behind houses or at night, then it became beatings in a public place in the middle of the day, then it became destroying the village and pinning the blame on me, purely to find enjoyment in watching my father reprimand me in the town square." I explained

"Soon, I'd had enough and decided to kill myself." I added bluntly

"That's when Cami found you isn't it?" she asked

"Yeah." I confirmed.

"To think my absence had this much of a fallout." she muttered.

"What would have happened if you had stayed?" I asked rhetorically

"Only the God's know, one things for certain; neither of us would have met our draconic companions, you would have never met Thuggory, Avery, or Heather you and Cami may not have had the relationship you do, nor would Avery or Thuggory." she guessed

"Yeah... wait what?"

"What?"

"What do you mean about Avery and Thuggory?"

"Oh oops I let that slip. Avery and Thuggory seem to like each other, but either neither will admit it or neither knows how to approach the subject."

"I wouldn't interfere, they'll get there when they do." I advised.

"Agreed. But a few subtle nudges couldn't hurt." she said snidely.

"So now you're the matchmaker?" I asked jokingly.

"How do you think Hybrid species came about?" she answered

I choked on my saliva at hearing that.

"Dragons are one thing, people are another." I stated after clearing my throat.

"Eh you never know…" she said leadingly

"If you're going to do anything, please for the love of the Gods… don't make it obvious." I pleaded

It was nice to talk to my mother this way, it was like how I used to talk to Gobber. The conversation started out serious, but eventually it became a more comedic and positive, fun matter. I guess being natural was all I wanted.

"When have vikings been anything but blunt?" she teased lightly.

"Please don't, you'll be worse than Thuggory." I begged.

"So it won't be hard to get him to make the first move." she smirked

"Geez Mom! You're starting to sound like Gobber!"

"I've a much better voice than that man." she complained jokingly.

"Depends, do you sing Jaunty tunes or Heavy metal tunes?"

"No, I haven't sung in a long time in fact, most of my communication was through gestures and the rattle." she admitted

"A rattle? Are there children here?" I asked

"Well of course some of the dragons are babies, but they all seem to react well to soothing sounds. But at the same time they can hear the urgency in the rattle depending on how I use it." she explained.

"Why would a rattle affect them?" I inquired.

"I believe it's similar in some way to the Alpha's call."

"I see."

We then lapsed into a bit of silence as we watched as Toothless tried to get Cloudjumper to play with him.

"You and Cami?" she asked from beside me.

"Avery?" I guessed

"Avery." she confirmed.

"Yeah, Cami healed me after she found me, and that turned into a friendship which blossomed into a relationship."

"And even though I left Berk; my real family. I met more people; who I could call my true family."

"are real and true not the same thing?" she asked

"No, real, is something that is actual, something that is legitimate. True, is something pure."

(1) this entire chapter was mostly inspired by NinjaRiderWriter with Hiccup's reaction to meeting Valka being very different.

(2) this line is not meant to be offensive, this is from Hiccup's perspective and what he sees, hears and knows.

(3) Wodensfang in the books is red and black like a lady bug... which isn't very royal to me... so I've made him a royal purple with an almost golden yellow.

(4) Cami's father being Gobber is a reference to Midorika Sama's story: Winter in Lif's Holt.
