Important Announcement!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Reborn! _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Greetings, one and all! Gentleman, ladies, and otherwise sentient entities!
Surprise, I'm not dead!
I am truly sorry for the long ass hiatus that I unexpectedly went on. A LOT of shit happened. Just to give you a quick run-down, I moved to a new state, changed jobs (twice), got into a very serious relationship, broke up with my partner, and went to a couple weddings and college graduations. Because of all that, I just haven't had the time or energy to really focus on writing. But I've been doing a lot of reading, not just of other people's stories, but of my own. And to put it simply, I am highly disappointed with this story. What was originally supposed to be a semi-self insert along the lines of "what would I do in this situation", steadily became more of a self fulfilment, "what I think should have happened" kind of story, which are two very different types of stories. Not to mention how my version of Izuku slowly turned into a Gary Sue (Stu? Stew? Ah, who cares) that could do anything because I didn't feel like presenting him with actual challenges. So, I have decided to do a complete revamp of this story, starting alllllllll the way back at Chapter One.
This retelling of Hero Academia Reborn will try to be a unique, self-contained story that isn't just a regurgitation of cannon with minor differences, and the promise of 'eventually' splitting off. I will also try to include alternate perspectives, so rather than you having to 'trust me' that things are happening off screen, you can actually watch them happen.
A few of these changes will be things that will have to be explored in the actual story, but I figure I can share a few of them with you now, so you can judge if you want to read the rewrite, or just completely ignore it.
For starters, the first chapter will be a 'prologue' that briefly goes over the main characters life in the Reborn universe, so you don't have to constantly try and remember exactly which chapter I dropped a small hint to his past, and we can all keep it straight in our head, since I think a big issue I had was keeping things too vague so I could change things without anyone noticing.
Secondly, the main character won't just be 'Izuku with Dying Will Flames', he'll have a more concrete personality, complete with his own flaws, which will be at least mostly different from cannon Izuku. This means that he won't have the same challenges that Izuku did in Hero Academia, and he won't approach them in the same manner.
Thirdly, which sort of ties in with the last point, his skill set won't just be 'punch it until it stops moving'. If (and that's a big if) I decide to give the main character One For All, he'll use it in a way differently than All Might and cannon Izuku did. I'm still going to have him have his Dying Will Flames, but he'll be the only character with them, and I won't go with the cop-out of giving him the two flames that most easily translate over to cannon Izuku's skill set. On that matter, I think I'll have him be either a Storm type or a Cloud type. I haven't decided yet.
Now, as for when you can expect this rewrite to come out. That's a bit of a messy subject. Obviously I have to actually write the prologue out still, and I want to start picking up my other stories again, since they were getting some nice reviews and I genuinely liked most of them. So i'm thinking of two updates a month. One will be the HAR Rewrite, and the other will be one of my other stories. That way I won't get burnt out like I did last time, trying to pump out updates as fast as I can, but the Rewrite will still get center stage. And of course, the two updates a month will be the minimum, so if I randomly get in the mood to write a few thousand words I'll just update whenever I finish a chapter.
Also, for those of you who commented on my story, I want to thank you one last time. It really brings me joy to know that some of you liked my writing, as silly and predictable as it was at times. And if you want to keep commenting on my Rewrite, feel free. Especially if you feel I'm slipping back into my old habits, or a plot line doesn't make any goddamn sense.
Well, that's about all i had to say about that. Expect the 'Prologue' to the Rewrite some time in the next two or three weeks, once I've got a general idea of how I want the story to go.
It's good to be back.
Signing off for now,
Phantom Drache
