Chapter 39: The Nobles of Makai.
"And after that, we had Hana and Kiba," Jon stated as he finished his tale and looked throughout the room to the Catwomen and Succubus.
Everyone was looking at him with pride while some of the younger ones in the group of Catwomen got up and began to jump around happily. They squealed in absolute delight since it was basically a fairy tale come true.
"I have to say, Jon," Morrigan said as she got up from the couch, a warm smile on her face. She raised her arms up to stretch. "That was one of the most fascinating stories I have ever heard. And it was real nonetheless."
Felicia got up from the couch and rushed over to the Werewolf to pull him into an embrace. She closed her eyes and tightened her grip around his neck. "I'm so proud of you, Jon. I actually worried about what would happen if you were on your own for that long. And I'm so happy you got lucky and had kids."
"Hehe, I'm alright, Felicia. In the end, I practically got a happy ending for myself," Jon reassured with a small smile as he chuckled and wrapped his old friend into a one-armed hug. The smirk faded from his face and became one of fake worry. "But you're going to have to let go now; my wife would kill me if she smelled you on me."
Felicia then let go as she got up and put her hands to her sides. "Well, you know the saying: 'Those who are not jealous cannot love'."
"She has a point." The Queen of Makai joined her feline friend's left side, a hand in the air pointing at that statement. "It's basically one of the rules of chivalry and courtly love."
"And what would you know about love, Morrigan? You're a Succubus," Jon jeered jokingly with a false sneer as he leaned forward. "How long has it been since you've last killed a poor man?"
"About ten-thousand years since the old world's collapse. A lady has to keep herself busy after all that time," Morrigan retorted smoothly with a seductive smirk. She didn't mind that little jeer at her actions from the old world.
That was when Lucy stepped up and called out, getting everyone's attention from the other side of the room. "Alright, can we at least question what the hell is going on here?!" She pointed towards the Werewolf. "You've learned what other Wereshifters take years to learn and master by shifting without the moon. And I think it's that chakra humans and Darkstalkers now have."
The Succubus nodded. "I guess you're right. For two-thousand years since the coming of this energy, the Succubi and Incubi of my family have been able to go two weeks without needing physical and mental stimulation to sustain ourselves." Morrigan crossed her arms as her gaze became firm. "Every demonic race has benefitted from gaining chakra, but we haven't been able to use it from lack of knowledge."
Piko sat up with her legs crossed as she spoke up, "Not only that, the Incubi used to be small compared to the Succubi, a head shorter than that Naruto kid. And that was unless they were born to be powerful enough to grow beyond expectation. Back then, they would have to train and grow in strength if they wanted to be as tall as their female counterparts."
"Anything else?" Jon inquired as he raised an eyebrow at the claim. He wasn't going to deny the fact that chakra could have something to do with the massive change in both humans and demons alike, so it was intriguing to hear what had happened to those of his heritage.
"Wereshifters have been able to shift more easily. Vampires have been able to survive in the sun for an hour without putting a demonic aura up. And... her race is capable of going without eating the regenerable outer shell of human souls for weeks on end," Morrigan answered as she shrugged her shoulders. "There have been many changes in Darkstalkers regarding chakra, many we don't even know yet. We are now starting to figure out how to use it in addition to our own abilities since we've kept contact with the human world to a bare minimum."
That was when Nonno jumped in, getting everyone's attention. "Speaking of humans, how long is that Naruto kid going to be gone? Despite the safety of the kingdom, Jedah's still out there, ready to do whatever is needed to fulfill his plans."
Jon then crossed his arms the same as the Queen of Makai. "I'm pretty sure he'll be alright. He's with Lilith. She's more than capable of protecting him."
With Naruto and Lilith... at the amusement park...
After cleaning his mouth out from his most recent escapade on the roller coaster, Naruto and Lilith went to try one of the games. They stood under the star-lit sky of Makai, and pop music from the old world was playing in the background, painting a playful atmosphere.
Both the Princess of Makai and the Human Prince were standing before three black floating targets that gave off a purple aura. Behind the targets were nothing but the vast lavender wastelands of Makai. The game that they were playing was more of a show of actual demonic power.
Naruto and Lilith stepped forward. A male Banshee, who looked like a human, spoke before the crowd.
"Alright, folks, we have our next contestants. Our very own Princess needs to fire off a demonic attack that and hits the center of that target over there." The Banshee then pointed towards one of three floating targets before turning back to the purple-haired Princess as he happily shouted. "Let's give it up for the Queen's sister, Lilith!"
The cheer of the crowd behind the Prince and Princess resonated throughout the area, making many more come and gather to see the royal Succubus in action.
Naruto was on the purple-haired demoness's left and turned to her with a small smile of encouragement on his face. "Give 'em hell, Lilith. Literally."
"Ready?!" the park employee yelled, gauging the excitement of the crowd as cheers began to pick up once more.
"Got it," Lilith returned as she squinted her eyes on the targets, her body tensing in excitement.
"Set!"
Her fingers flexed, ready for the challenge that was about to begin.
And in that instant, the announcer screamed, "Go!"
Lilith slowly raised her right hand into the air. Not long after, a small green orb of demonic power began to form and whir with power.
"Soul Flash!"
Lilith threw the sphere as it shot off like a bullet and smashed through the target. Everyone looked on in shock as the green orb kept flying until it hit the wasteland. A massive green dome suddenly overtook the wasteland by the park, the explosion sounding throughout the lands.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
When the blast faded, all that was left was the same wasteland of Makai. It looked like Lilith controlled the power at the last second so she wouldn't further destroy the wasteland, only skimming it.
Everyone stared at the scene in absolute bewilderment and began to speak amongst themselves.
"That's the Princess for you!"
"So this is the power of an S-Class noble... damn..."
"Man, that kid is hanging around one of the strongest Succubi in all of Makai, and he's not even making a big deal about it."
"To think she's watching over that human. How sweet of her!"
Lilith could hear it all, and part of her loved the attention they were getting.
Meanwhile, Naruto's jaw was practically on the floor as he stared at where the explosion was only a minute ago. He could feel the reverence and awe the crowd felt for the red-clad Succubus. She... She's so strong... is this really what an S-Class Darkstalker can do?
"It looks like it," Kurama said from within the mindscape. "I could only imagine what could happen if we faced off against a force like that. We're already unprepared as it is. We'd lose in a second if we dared to cross a line with these demons."
The announcer's voice captured the crowd's attention once again. "Alright, here is the prize for our Princess! For that extra display, she wins several copies of comic books featuring heroes our Queen has met in other universes!" He raised his hand to the sky. "Give it up for Lilith!"
Everyone cheered for the Princess of Makai as she raised her hands up and waved to the crowd, basking in the attention.
A Vampire in a park uniform came up and presented the purple-haired Succubus with a crate. It was filled to the brim with thin, brightly colored books filled with characters with weird designs that served as their battle attire.
Lilith quickly nudged her head to the boy next to her. "I won these for him."
Turning to the Human Prince, the Vampire turned to the blonde. "Here you go, kid. The heroes in these comics actually exist in another universe created by the Kami. Our Queen has met some of them herself and even fought alongside them."
Naruto accepted the box and looked at the ones at the top. His eyes jolted about as he read the covers, wondering if what the Vampire said was true. I'll ask Morrigan about this later.
"I wouldn't think anything of it. It sounds like madness," Kurama sharply remarked and rested his head into his arms. "Other universes? Impossible."
Are you sure about that? Naruto mentally asked, turning to Lilith as he overheard her offering to store the comics in a pocket dimension for him to read later. Without any protest, Naruto handed them over to the Princess of Makai. In her arms, the container disappeared in a flash of red as she stored it away.
"Alright. Let's get on more rides and have some more fun, 'kay?" Lilith asked with a turned head.
Naruto snapped back to reality and locked eyes with the Princess of Makai. "O-Oh, sorry about that."
"It's okay, let's just go and have some fun."
"Yeah..." Naruto began to walk with the Princess of Makai as they left the games. Everyone's eyes were still on them as they left, but the boy paid no mind as his thoughts were elsewhere.
Other universes? Just the thought alone was mind-boggling. And all of them filled and teeming with life. It was all so confusing, yet... intriguing. But that was a thought for another day. For now, he had the day off from his duties, and he was going to let loose and have fun.
With Morrigan and company...
The Queen of Makai, Catwomen, and Werewolf spent the rest of the evening laughing and joking about. Everyone was finally letting the stress and threat of Jedah die down. They knew that the demon lord would use it against them and throw them off balance.
At the moment, the Succubus was talking about the people she met from the other universes.
"I swear, Dante was flirting with Carol, even outside of battle," Morrigan said as she looked about the room and tried to hold in her laughter. Her voice broke as she tried to utter the next set of words. "He even called her Captain Marvelous. I could have sworn they started dating afterward!"
Laughter and chuckles resonated throughout the library.
"Did they ever start dating?" Felicia asked with a flick of her ear.
"I don't think so, Felicia. The Kami separated the universes when they came together for a short time," Grace said. "But the lovechild they could have would have been powerful—"
Suddenly, the doors on the second floor shot open, and a brunette Succubus ran down the stairs. The demoness bowed once she was in front of Morrigan. "My Queen, forgive my intrusion! The nobles you've requested to meet with are here! They're all waiting in the courtroom."
Morrigan clapped her hands as she stood up from the couch. "Well, they certainly came far more quickly than I anticipated." She gave a small nod of approval. "Thank you. You may be excused."
A pregnant pause filled the air as the servant got up and turned around to leave the library. All eyes were on the green-haired Succubus now.
"Alright, I think it's time that our little time away from Jedah comes to an end," Morrigan announced, finally cutting the silence that took the room. She turned around to face everyone, uncaring about their curious and worried looks. "It's time we start planning our attack on Jedah and all his resources." She put a hand on her hip, eyes darted left towards the Lycanthrope. "Jon, I also summoned someone else alongside the nobles who might want to see you. It's important since you have blood connections here in Makai."
"Understood," the Werewolf replied with a firm nod. However, he couldn't help but wonder who possibly wanted to speak with him.
Not more than a day and already so many things were happening as fast as yesterday's battle. Whoever was here to see Jon was a mystery to him, but for the moment, all that mattered now was the plot against the demon lord that threatened the human world and Makai.
The Queen's council chambers...
Morrigan's council chambers were the size of her throne room. She sat in front of a glass window that revealed the grand metropolis of Makai when the blood-red drapes were pulled back. The walls were painted a warm beige. All around, there were pictures and portraits of heroes she fought alongside. It was well lit with electricity, giving the room a modern feel.
The Succubus sat at the end rectangular table closest to the window. The furniture of painted black wood, finely varnished. And it was large enough for eight individuals to sit.
As Morrigan sat there, the door suddenly opened to reveal seven Darkstalkers walking in, all nobles hailing from families and clans. One of the royals was a tall Weredragon, while the others looked close to a human shape.
One of them was a Vampire of short stature with long wavy auburn hair braided down her back, fair skin, pointed ears, sharp fangs, and red eyes. The Vampiress donned a long black dress with teal embellishments and trimmings alongside a snow-white coat. There was an innocent air about her, but it showed more intelligence and cunning behind it. To Morrigan, this was Lenore Maximoff, the head of the Maximoff family of Vampires.
Three female nobles took to the Queen's left while the four other males had taken to the right and the end of the table.
The auburn-haired woman took the chair closest to Morrigan. As she sat down, she spoke hesitantly, "My Queen, i-is it true? Is the Dark Messiah trying to conquer the human world?"
Every noble in the looked at the Succubus, waiting for her answer.
Morrigan just looked forward towards the other end of the table and stared off, knowing that this might induce a panic in the kingdom if word of this got out. Closing her eyes and letting out a sigh, the silent Queen answered, "Aye, Lenore, it's true. Jedah is threatening the human world. And by that extension, our world."
The Darkstalker on her right was a Weredragon. He was eight feet tall, his antlers giving him extra height. His golden eyes were reptilian, with slitted pupils. His white hair formed a mohawk that curved down and framed his face. Green scales decorated his body while white ones covered his jaw and traced down to his chest. He had an athletic and muscular build and donned a white battle kimono adorned with streaks of blue. The massive wings protruding from openings on the back had completed the Weredragon's look.
His voice was laced with anger as he spoke, "If Dohma even dares to upset the balance of our worlds, the Kreutz family will be by your side as the old days of Belial, my lady."
"Thank you, Xell," the Succubus said with a warm smile. She reached out to put a hand on his. "Your loyalty to the throne and leadership of the Kreutz family has helped Makai in more ways than one."
"Getting back to the subject at hand, what should we do in these dark times?" questioned a handsome, pink-eyed noble that sat in the middle chair on the right. He wore a black robe embroidered with golden leaves and vines. He had a body of one that worked out only for his looks and attractive appearance. He also had a playful air about him.
His head rested on his crossed arms, looking at the Queen of Makai with an interested smirk. "You and the Count Demitri faced off with him before. What makes you think you can't do it again?"
"It's not that we can't do it again, Hartland. Jedah has amassed a cult of followers that were brought together by his promise of a better world. They have connections to each of the Elemental Nations, which could shatter them depending on what they know."
"Not only that, Gregorio," Lenore added, "but my uncle Demitri had sustained major injuries from seven thousand years ago from another battle with the Dark Messiah. He's still trying to recuperate."
"As expected from the head of the Hartland clan. Always so busy feasting and fucking those whores of his that he can't even think," Xell sneered, his eyes shifting towards the hedonistic Darkstalker mockingly.
"Hmph," Gregorio huffed as he sat up and turned to glare at the Weredragon. "At least we know how to live our lives, something you could never enjoy with that ten-foot pole up your—"
"Just stop it, you two," Lenore intervened with a glare as she banged her hands on the table. "Jedah Dohma is at large, and we cannot be spending time arguing and warring with each other—"
"Save it, Maximoff. I'm not the one who needs an attitude adjustment," Gregorio retorted, now glaring at the Vampire before returning his gaze to the Weredragon. "I can at least say I know joy better than anyone else here, even more than our Queen, who used to travel to other worlds."
Hartlands, so stuck in the ways of ecstasy, Morrigan thought as she let out a sigh, looking at the two pitifully. She knew these nobles, and she very well knew of their history. Her eyes shifted slightly to the right to get a good look at the Weredragon. And the loyal Kreutz family. Father always regarded them as trustworthy, and they haven't failed me in my time as Queen. But if they don't stop soon, we'll only be giving Jedah more time to plot our demise.
"Ironic knowing everything regarding pleasure. But when it comes to responsibility, you shrivel away like a coward," Xell scoffed as he crossed his arms, his voice becoming darker. "How many sons and daughters did you and those whores make only to neglect them? How many disowned you their father?"
"Shut up!" Hartland seethed as he glared death at the Kreutz. "You're nothing more than a filthy animal that took my family away from me!"
"How many of your children claimed their love for me while you never heard such an affectionate gesture, much less a hug? How many of your daughters did I walk down the aisle while you were busy making the next member of the Kreutz family? How many of your children claimed me as their father when I adopted them through a blood ritual?"
The tension in the room rose. The subject of the demon lord at large was now becoming a thing of the past. More carnal arguments took place. What could be civil war once more was coming into fruition. Everyone else in the room couldn't help but take a mental step back, knowing that this was just too personal.
Morrigan quickly shot from her seat, a shockwave of demonic power bursting throughout the room. Her face contorted into a snarl, revealing sharp fangs as she shouted, "Enough!"
Everyone turned to the Queen of Makai, all of them knowing of her power and what she could do. Sweat began to drip down every one of their faces while some held their breath. If so much as one word got out, it was going to be the chopping block for them.
"We have enough issues as it is! I didn't call you all here just so you can all tear into each other like wee bloody animals that have no self-control," Morrigan sneered as she glared at both male nobles.
Both sat back against their seats. They knew that they would have to put their issues and their hatred for one another aside for the Succubus.
"Forgive me, Morrigan. I was not in the humblest of places," Xell apologized as he leaned his head forward in a bow.
Gregorio tried to contain the red staining his face by leaning his head down, letting his hair cover it. "I could have acted a lot more mature myself. Forgive me, my Queen."
One noble wearing all black and a witch's hat spoke up from the other end on the left, her voice coming out in a timid stutter. "M-My Queen, if Jedah is on the loose, then I'll do my part and look for Dohma Castle and his resources with my all-seeing spells. I can try to pinpoint where he is while we have time."
Morrigan took a deep breath in, her shoulders dropping as she tried to relax. A smile tugged at her lips as she got a good look at the hesitant council member. "Thank you, Sierra. Make sure that your reputation of mastering over 1,400 spells isn't just a lie."
"Yes, milady."
Morrigan sat down in her seat and folded her hands on the table once more. "This is a matter of the human and demon worlds and their survival. Right now, I need each of you to act accordingly."
"What should we do, Morrigan?" one noble donning gold and red inquired from the last seat on her right. "Tell us, and we will follow."
"Those that have business investments in my kingdom will look for any suspicious transactions regarding resources. Those whose clans are more combat-based will be working with me on the battlefront and help plan our course of attack once we've tracked down Jedah's supplies and base of operations. I'll also be working alongside a few others and spreading information about chakra and will be educating the kingdom on how to use it."
Just as she finished that sentence, she put her right hand to her head and began to focus. The Queen of Makai could hear Lilith's voice calling out to her telepathically. As a part of one original soul, this allowed the Princess of Makai to communicate with her soul sister.
"Morrigan, you gotta see this!" Lilith cried in absolute excitement. In the background, Morrigan heard music from the old world, specifically of the pop genre.
What is it, Lilith? I'm in the middle of a meeting, Morrigan inquired and tried to keep a straight face in front of everyone in the room.
"I took Naruto to a karaoke club. And now he's singing!" the Princess of Makai exclaimed in happiness. The voice of a boy was evident in the background. "He just told me that some of the songs on the list were ones his father's clan got from the old world. His mother taught him how to sing this one, listen!"
Morrigan's ears were telepathically flooded with a song from the old world. A smile tugged at her lips, trying to contain the joy she was holding within and not go wide-eyed in surprise. She heard the lyrics play out and Naruto's voice in the background. So it's that song?
"Naruto told me the song was special to his mother because she was in love with his father. It's so cute!"
If it wasn't for indirect telepathy, eardrums and glass would have been shattered from the squeal of excitement. For a moment, the Queen of Makai felt a rush of pride run through her knowing her guest was enjoying his time in her kingdom.
"My Queen, we are ready for whatever Jedah has up his sleeve. And we will be preparing," Xell informed with a sideways glance. "I'll inform my clan to take their training in combat to the next level while bringing them over to the castle. We won't leave any room for mistakes."
Almost everyone nodded as Morrigan stood up from her seat and cut off the mental link between her and Lilith. Her hands glowed, and she raised them up to clap three times.
Within just a few moments, the doors from the entrance of the room opened. They revealed castle servants and cooks coming in with carts bearing sweets and desserts of all kinds. They set them down onto the table, making the scene look far more inviting. One of the chefs kindly spoke up as he came up to the green-haired demoness, "As you requested for your guests, my lady. The finest pastries, sweets, and tea in Makai."
"Thank you, Oshimura. You may all take a break and rest. Hopefully, you made some more desserts for yourselves," Morrigan praised in appreciation of their service to her.
"We have as per your request for the past thousand years, milady." And with that said, every one of the servants left the room to the nobles and Queen.
Morrigan turned back to everyone sitting around the table. All of them looked at her with confusion and skepticism all over their faces.
She gave small smile. "Well, if we're going to plan to find Jedah, we shouldn't have to do it on an empty stomach." She cocked her head to the right with a smirk. "Now, serve yourselves."
Some were hesitant to get up from their seats. Those that knew the Queen on a personal level got up to grab a plate on the carts. Everyone was then up and about. Those that had conflict with one another had taken to the other side of the room.
This was it. The Dark Messiah couldn't stand against an entire kingdom of Darkstalkers, not like last time he tried to conquer the demon realm. And many were prepared for battle against whatever human followers would come as a result. For the time being, the Succubus would relax.
Hopefully Lilith has a story regarding their karaoke afternoon, Morrigan thought in an upbeat tone, making sure everyone was busy enjoying themselves for the time being while trying to keep two of them from duking it out in the castle.
You know something. A lot of these characters are real in the Darkstalkers universe regarding the nobles. In fact, if you look up the class system of Makai, you'll find a lot regarding the noble families there.
Soul Flash
Rank: Unknown.
Class: Offensive.
Range: Long.
A counterpart to the Soul Fist, one of Morrigan's techniques, this variant is exclusive to Lilith. Being a more... weaker variant at first, Lilith has mastered utilizing her power and developing it into something akin to her sister's. The user would develop a small orb of demonic power in their hand and launch it off, the result being an explosion or a close-quarters projectile that could send an enemy flying back, killing or injuring on a whim.
Arsao Tome: It would be pretty weird if Jon was Naruto's father in this story. Not only that, it wouldn't make any sense for multiple reasons. And one reason being that it would take away from the Rabbit Summons. Can anyone imagine that? A Werewolf summoning rabbits?
Altairr-chan: Thanks, and quite the length on that review. It brings up an interesting prompt, but for me, that idea might not go far. I can imagine it though.
I'd like to thank my Beta for all their help. And I will see you all next time.
