Chapter 39: A Spiritual Message
Nighttime arrives in the neighborhood and everyone is going to sleep. Miyuki was able to get into her bedroom down in the basement by Kaede's room. "Mom." Kaede asks her as she peeks into the bedroom. "Yes, Kaede?" Miyuki asks as she is about to put her book away for the night. "Can I ask you something?" Kaede comes into the room and sits on the foot of the bed. "Sure, what is it?" Miyuki smiles. "Was Kikyo's father against Inuyasha being a half demon?" Kaede nervously asks her. "Sadly yes. My husband despised any leaving being that was demon. His family were always like that. Even when I met him, he'd protect me from them as well." Miyuki speaks her answer casually.
Kaede nods to shows that she understands her. "And then there was an agreement between the two and he wasn't happy about it one bit. He claims that this goes against the customs of life. He never wanted it to happen in the first when he heard about it in the first place." Just hearing that made Kaede wonder. "But does a priest have to stay positive to control his spiritual powers?" She asks Miyuki. "That's mainly true, however he was more of the stubborn kind and he made sure that it didn't turn negative. He was very careful about his emotions. He was aware about that." Kaede nods. "I'm going to bed. She hugs her good night and leaves the room to go into her own.
Inuyasha gets into his room with a water bottle of water in. He sets it down on his night stand by his bed. Before he gets under the covers, He turns to his jacket that has the locket that Miyuki had. He digs in and pulls out the locket. "What was it that Kikyo wanted me to know about?" He asks himself as he places it by the water bottle. He turns off the light and goes to sleep.
A few hours later, the clouds begin to disappear to make the moonlight illuminate into Inuyasha's bedroom window. "Inuyasha." A voice calls out to him alone. Inuyasha turns to his one side to get comfortable. "Inuyasha." The voice repeats it call to the boy. Inuyasha groans as he tries his best to go back to sleep. The locket pulsates and glows. All of a sudden the light brightens his room. "What's going on?" Inuyasha asks himself as he rubs his tired eyes. "Inuyasha. It's me." The voice spoke to him seriously. Inuyasha turns to see that the light begins to take shape of a girl. "Kikyo." Inuyasha is surprised to see her. She's the same the night before she was killed. He is about to get out of his bed but Kikyo stops him. "I'm just a spirit. I've come to you to tell you something." Kikyo said to him. "What is it?" He sits up to show her that's he's listening. "I'm only going to say this once. I want to let you know it was Tsubaki who killed me and my father. She thought that if I remained pure, she would consider me as an equal. But after founding out that I was dating, she claimed that it was a disgrace not to myself but to my father. She was the one who manipulated him into do the unthinkable. She hated every minute of it." She tells him her story
"All because of jealousy." Inuyasha spoke instead of a question. Kikyo nods, "Exactly. I would never expect Tsubaki would go this low. But that's what make us human. It's natural. There are times we have to accept it or not. I just wished I noticed it sooner. If there's anyway for me to have my soul to really rest in peace is to confront Tsubaki." She gives him her idea. Inuyasha stands up to come to her. "And how would you manage to make it happen?" He asks her in a serious tone.
Kikyo frowns at this part. "I was afraid to tell you this, but I have to possess another who has the same spiritual powers that I had in order to face Tsubaki." Inuyasha widens his eyes. "Possess another person? Are you crazy?" He tries to take a hold of her shoulders, which didn't go through. "Inuyasha, this is the only option we have here. If this doesn't go according to plan, my soul will be lost forever." Kikyo takes his hands off of her shoulders. "Is this just to get revenge?" Inuyasha asks her as he crossed his arms. "No. It's for a different reason. And I cannot do this alone." She shakes her head.
"And who is the other person who is willing to let you possess the body? Kaede?" Inuyasha asks her sarcastically. "No, Kagome." Kikyo spoke seriously this time. "No. I won't let you do this." Inuyasha strongly disagrees with this approach. "Inuyasha, she's the only blood relative who also has spiritual powers. If you didn't know is that her mother was a priestess as well but she chooses to ignore it and send them to Kagome." Kikyo explains it to him. Inuyasha sighs, "Fine I'll help out, that is if Kagome will cooperate."
Kikyo smiles for his agreement. "The best way to make this work is to have this locket back at the shop where the other one is. Kagome needs to be there as well. We should be able to do this when the moon is full." She gives him her ideas on how to pull this off. As the clouds is about to cover the moon. "I must be going. Remember our deal, Inuyasha." She fades away as the moonlight dims out. Inuyasha looks down to the locket to see it rest back into the spot where he left it. He sees that its 2 am so he has plenty of time to think about Kikyo's plan. But should he tell his parents, and his friends? He doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know who to turn to on this one. Not just that, what about Kagome? Will she improve on what he was told? Will she help out willingly that Kikyo hoped? There's only a few days left until the moon becomes full. So this should give him enough time to think this through.
