My Hero Academia: Entreri Gaiden
Chapter thirty-nine: The training camp, part two
The teens were all up at an early but still reasonable time when roused from their slumber by the women. Some teens like Marley and Ragna were groggy and being a little on the lazy side (Mina said that she in good faith couldn't hold it against Ragna), some of the teens perked up instantly like Tengoh and Goukazaru, and some of the teens gently but not lazily woke up like Komaru did when Kinoko gently woke him up.
Ochaco and the women saw that Fuyuki was already awake without any need for any of them to wake him up. They were surprised to see that he had developed into an early riser, and he had no doubt they'd be rattled to learn why he had developed so.
After breakfast, the women all had the teens gather in a large meeting room at the camp lodge. There the large room had something of a classroom setting. "Here kids will be your first exercise that we'll be doing in your training," Itsuka said, "Deciding on your hero aliases, which you will use to identify yourselves when you're doing hero work."
"The names you pick here will be temporary, as you can still change them while you're students," Momo explained, "But many pro heroes end up keeping the first aliases that they come up with for themselves. In fact, my own hero alias Creati is the first one for myself that I came up with."
"If we feel that a chosen hero alias won't be fitting, we will speak up," Setsuna said, "But outside of that we're probably going to approve of whatever you kids come up." The teens were very much excited, seeing the coming up with hero aliases as their first steps to becoming true pro heroes. As such, they all got to work on their hero aliases, with some accompanied by their moms getting some help from said moms.
Fuyuki already knew full well what he wanted to use, so Ochaco wouldn't get to have a bonding moment with her son. But then again he had the idea since long before now, well before he got kicked out of UA because of Rem's scheming, so Ochaco wasn't going to have much to do with her son either way. After a while, the teens had all finished on their initial ideas for their various hero aliases, so came the time to present them.
The first to go was Sigurd Sato. "Well my quirk is a variant of my late father's quirk, which let him increase his physical strength and to a lesser extent muscle mass temporarily by eating a lot of sugar," Sigurd began to explain, "The variant part stems from the fact that I have to use fruit instead. There's a part of Norse myth involving how the gods use special apples to keep up their youthful vigor, and I feel the name from that part of Norse myth, despite how it's actually more feminine, would be fitting for me."
Turning around the small board that he wrote his idea for his hero alias on, Sigurd said, "So for now, I've decided on being the Norse Fruit Hero: Idunn."
"There's some debate on if the god Tsukuyomi is male or female, yet my husband chose Tsukuyomi as his hero alias kero," Tsuyu spoke up, "I personally see no problem with it." All of the other women agreed with Tsuyu, and some even expressed sincere interest and favoring of one of the boys showing a bit of a feminine side.
Next to go was Marley, who got up in front of class. Instead of giving a small story to explain his chosen hero alias, he simply presented it by turning around his small board. "I'll be the Electro-Tune Hero: Sparknotes," Marley said, "As my quirk is a mix of my parents' respective quirks and they both like good tunes, mom especially."
Kyoka, in addition to looking touched, looked a bit surprised. "...That's actually rather creative," Kyoka admitted, "Not to mention clever. I doubt your dad could be that clever."
"Come on, mom, cut dad some slack," Marley replied. After Marley's name was given the okay, he sat back down as Omono took his turn.
Standing in front of everyone, Omono turned his small board around to show what he had written. "My quirk lets me stretch my body, as if it were made of rubber," Omono said, "So I was thinking on being the Stretching Hero: Gomu."
"Short and simple," Itsuka remarked, liking her son's choice, "I like it." After Omono had gone, the next to present was Kurama Kitsune. After reaching the front of the classroom, Kurama turned around and presented his idea for his hero alias.
"I'm going with Nine-tailed Hero: Kyubi," Kurama said as he presented his chosen hero alias to everyone in the room, "I get the feeling that it's what will fit me the best."
His name was met with general approval, and was passed no problem. After Kurama took his seat, the next to go was Ragna. Reaching the front of his class, Ragna turned his small board around to show everyone what he had put down for his hero alias for the time being.
"I shall be the Great Prophet Hero: Thrackerzod!" Ragna declared, "For I shall lead all unto a brighter path to the future!"
"Umm, Ragna sweetie," Mina spoke up, "That might be a bit of an unreasonable idea for your hero alias."
"Said the woman who at one point picked Alien Queen for her hero alias before being made to settle on something more reasonable," Toru spoke up.
Nodding in conceding the point, Mina replied, "That's fair. Ragna still ought to think more about his hero alias." As such, Ragna had to redo his hero alias, being disappointed that his first idea had been shot down.
When some of the students began laughing, Momo spoke up."Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey," Momo said, "Don't go teasing anyone. Some of your parents' ideas for their own hero aliases when they were all your age was shot down, such as what Ragna's mom came up with for herself first. And don't even get me started on Inko's dad."
Some of the other women nodded in agreement. "First my brother-in-law had wanted to use King Explosion Murder," said Ochaco as she began to list off from her fingers, "Then he went and switched to Lord Explosion Murder, then he switched to Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, and then he had finally settled on Explosion Hero: Dynamight when my husband convinced him to do so in order to be more approachable for Pony."
"Yeah, I can see why a hero alias that literally has the word 'murder' in it isn't exactly one that gives off warm, welcoming vibes," Fuyuki said dryly.
While Ragna focused on trying to come up with a new hero alias he could use, Fuyuki went up. Standing in front of everyone in the class, he turned his small board around as he simply gave his chosen hero alias. "Zero-G Hero: Antigrav." There was no build up, no emotion, in what Fuyuki said. He simply said it then proceeded to sit back down in the seat that he had. The woman all were a bit concerned about the lack of flare, of excitement, in Fuyuki's tone, and they knew full well that they were partly responsible for it.
Even so, Fuyuki's chosen hero alias was acceptable enough, so they allowed him to sit back down. The next to go was Samidare, who was accompanied by Great Shadow. Turning his small board around, Samidare said to everyone, "I'm going to go with Dark Swamp Hero: Shadow Frog for the time being."
"A bit on the shady side, but then again not all heroes have names that sound fully bright and sunny," Itsuka said, "And there are shadier examples. And you will get the chance to change it later, so if you come up with something before that point, keep it in mind. Until then, your name for now will be fine."
Scoffing in annoyance, Great Shadow said, "It bites that Ragna already tried using the perfect name but was shot down."
"Not now, Great Shadow," Samidare said to his sentient quirk before they got back to where Samidare was sitting.
After Samidare had gone, Inko went up next. She stood in front of everyone in the room, then turned her small board around to present her chosen hero alias to everyone. "I'm going to be the Wild Ride Hero: Dynamare," Inko said, sounding firm in her decision. There was no argument that anyone made, so Inko was able to go with her choice.
Sebas was the next to go, and he showed his small board to everyone in the room. "I'll be the Metalwork Hero: Blacksmith," Sebas explained, "My quirk lets me fuse two different items into one so long as both are made of metal. A bit of a limited version of my dad's quirk, but I've been able to make it work."
"Indeed you have, Sebas," Momo replied with an approving nod. After Sebas returned to where he was sitting, the next student to go was Toya.
Turning his small board around to show everyone his chosen hero alias, Toya explained, "I've settled on Snowstorm Hero: Blizzardo. I feel it fits, as my quirk's a mix of my mom's quirk and the ice half of my dad's quirk." There were no objections to Toya's chosen hero alias, so after he was given approval he sat back down.
Next was Goukazaru, who turned to face everyone in the room when he got to the front of the room. Turning his small board around, Goukazaru said, "I've decided to go with using Strongest Primate Hero: Wukong."
"Yeah, Goukazaru," Setsuna said to her son, "You got a strong primate vibe going, so I can very easily see that one working for you." After he had been given a seal of approval, Goukazaru sat back down in his seat.
"Okay, I got it this time," Ragna said as he tried again upon taking the next turn. Turning his small board around to present his new chosen hero alias to everyone, Ragna said, "How about I go for Corrosion Hero: Acidic?"
"Now that is much better," Mina said, "And like me you needed two tries. Like mother like son, I suppose." Since his new chosen hero alias was approved, Ragna breathed a sigh of relief as he proceeded to sit back down.
The next one to go was Aizawa. The women who used to be in class A looked on as their former homeroom teacher's godson made his way to the front of the class, his cat tail swishing a bit as his left cat ear twitched a little. Reaching the front of the room, Aizawa turned around then showed his chosen hero alias to everyone. "I'm going with Catscratch Hero: Khajiit."
"Interesting, interesting," Setsuna remarked, "Very original, and nothing too out there." Aizawa's hero alias was accepted, so he was able to sit back down.
After Aizawa went a somewhat nervous Komaru. He had to be assured by his friends and his mom that there was no need to be nervous a bit, then he got up and went to present in front of everyone in the room. Turning his small board around, Komaru said, "I, umm, I want to go with using Fairy Ring Hero: Red Mage."
"Oh, I get it," Tengoh spoke up, "A fairy ring is a naturally occurring phenomenon in nature where mushrooms grow in a circle or an arc. There is also folklore related to fairy rings involving the supposed use of magic, and you're going with Red Mage, which is a kind of magic user in some video games. Very creative, Komaru."
"There's also the fact that Red Mage mixes his parents' respective hero aliases," Ochaco pointed out, "I think it's a very sweet homage to his parents."
Nodding along in agreement, Komaru said, "Y-Yes, wanting to pay respect to my mom and dad is why I chose Red Mage. I didn't know about the video game reference that Tengoh went on about until he brought it up." Komaru's hero alias was approved, and he went to sit back down, where Kinoko looked touched and gave her son a gentle pat on the back.
After Komaru had gone, Tengoh was next. Acting confidently, the class rep of class 1-A turned his small board around to present his chosen hero alias to everyone. "I am going with Idaten Hero: Idaium. I wanted to pay respect to my family's proud tradition of heroics, so I'm mixing the name of my Uncle Tensei's former hero group with the name that's been used by both my Uncle Tensei and my father Tenya."
Some of the women chuckled in knowing amusement, not surprised to see Tengoh take after his father to a notable degree. After Tengoh was approved, he sat back down in his seat as the last to present, Hikari, went up. When she stood in front of everyone in the room, she turned her small board around to show everyone what she had chosen for her hero alias. What it ended up being surprised a lot of them, as well as also touched some of the women emotionally, given the history that they knew Hikari's family had.
"I'm going with Kijin Hero: Kolulu," Hikari said, "It a mix of the fact that my quirk is called Kijin Constitution, and how I want to try to live for my late older sister who had been named Kolulu. I feel like this is the best one for me."
The women, especially those who were privy to the story that was Hikari's family, were stunned into silence by what Hikari was saying, that she wanted to live for her older sister who had taken her life several years ago. Most of the teens were also stunned, although Fuyuki, with a calm and accepting smile, started gently clapping his hands. "...Not a bad choice at all, Hikari," Fuyuki said, "At least if you ask me."
"Yes, I have to agree with Fuyuki," Ochaco said, "It's very lovely, Hikari. I'm sure that your older sister would have been touched by the gesture." The other women all agreed, and as such Hikari ended up keeping her chosen hero alias. Since all of the teens had successfully chosen their respective hero aliases, they were able to get to breakfast. After that, the training would kick off in earnest, and the teens would be giving it their all.
After eating their fill at breakfast, the teens all went outside to begin their training. The teens who didn't have either a parent or an adult present with a similar quirk had a bit of a harder go, but they were still able to pull through. Even so, it was the teens with present moms, especially those whose quirks were similar or flat out identical, who had made the most progress, who had shot clear ahead of the others.
The teens with animal like features, such as Aizawa, Kurama and Goukazaru, ended up sparring in martial arts under Itsuka's instruction. Kyoka did some training with Marley, but could only do so much since while he did have cords growing out of his earlobes like she did, his were of an electrical nature. Similarly, Momo used her quirk to conjure small plates of various metals to see how long it would take Sebas to fuse two different kinds of metals together.
Over a ways, Ochaco was trying to work with Fuyuki, mainly testing the weight limit his quirk had. "Wow, even my current limit is lower than yours," Ochaco said in an impressed tone as she watched Fuyuki float enough stuff to match her current limit but clearly had enough steam to still go himself, "And you basically just started on your real hero training whereas when I started I had about half of what you got right now."
Gently, Fuyuki let everything fall back down without causing a mess. He turned to face his mother, gave her a dry look. "...So you say that you have nothing to teach me."
Ochaco thought about it for a moment, trying to make sure she didn't carry out a plan that might risk offending Fuyuki in some way even more. She could spar with him to fine tune the Gunhead style martial arts that they know, but Ochaco was afraid that if she threw Fuyuki to the ground in their sparring, he might explode with rage and lunge at her to violently attack. However, she did have an idea that she hoped would work.
"...In terms of strength and power, no," Ochaco explained, "But I can show you some creative ways to use your quirk to overcome someone with more force than you. This can be useful in case you run into a large group of enemies."
"Alright then, teach away," Fuyuki replied dryly, with Ochaco internally breathing a sigh of relief. The pro hero Uravity was grateful that her son accepted what she offered. Hell, she was grateful that he was willing to work with her at all period, but that was probably partly due to the fact he and her had the same quirk as one another, so it wasn't like Fuyuki exactly had another viable option in the matter.
Ochaco desperately wanted her son to trust her again, to love her again. But she had no idea how long it would take for Fuyuki to heal enough to reach that point, assuming that he'd reach it at all period. Even so, the fact that Fuyuki was with her now, working with her, had brought some measure of joy to Ochaco's heart. Still, she did want to fully heal her baby boy, and figured that she had someone she could turn to for help in that matter.
"You want my help with what now?"
During dinner that night, while the adults ate separate from the teens, Ochaco, who sat with Pony, Tsuyu and Kinoko, had asked Kinoko for advice. "I was hoping that you'd be able to help me with reaching out to Fuyuki," Ochaco said, her tone sad as she gave off a defeated air, "After all Kinoko, you're the only one here among those in our graduating class from UA's hero course who Fuyuki is still willing to trust fully."
The pro hero Shemage let out a gentle, mildly resigned sigh. "...The reason why your son trusts me is because, unlike you and all of the other ladies in our group, I'm the only one who believed in him, who never doubted he was innocent. I had a gut feeling that something was up when Fuyuki was accused of being like your and Eijiro's former classmate, partly because I'm certain all of the boys are angels like Komaru, but mostly because it was Fuyuki who was accused."
Giving Ochaco a firm look, Kinoko went on, "Seriously, Ochaco. You and Izuku had a direct hand in raising Fuyuki. He basically grew up being as much of a cinnamon roll as your husband. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you, or any of the girls in our group for that matter, had ever not only viewed Fuyuki as guilty, but did so-" Kinoko paused to snap her fingers. "-As easy as that. Did what that pervert do to all of us back then really damage you girls that badly?"
Ochaco, as well as Pony and Tsuyu, all looked down with ashamed looks on their faces. "...I can't help but wonder if any of the other women here who have sons would have turned on them like you turned on Fuyuki if it had been one of those boys who Toru's daughter Rem had framed as a pervert and got them kicked out of UA," Kinoko said, a hint of knowing bitterness in her tone, "Like if it had been Tsuyu's son who was the one that was framed."
"I would never turn like that on Samidare kero," Tsuyu replied firmly right away.
"Can you be so sure?" Kinoko asked, "After all you're just as strongly against perverts like Ochaco is. And look at how she acted and behaved while her son was missing, due to the wrong stigma that Rem had pinned him with out of petty jealousy." Looking to the three women she was sitting with, Kinoko said, "Fuyuki has faith in me because I've never lost faith in him, in any of the boys. He still trusts me because I'm willing to do for him what Ochaco here had decided to stop doing; be a mom towards him."
Ochaco looked sad, but realized that Kinoko had a point; Fuyuki was as upset as he was due to how he must be feeling that he lost his mom. His aunt for that matter as well, given that Pony was just as guilty for her role hence why Pony also looked upset. He feels that they no longer have any faith in him, hence why he's seemingly gravitating towards Kinoko because she hasn't stopped radiating kind warmth and welcoming trust towards him.
The women, Ochaco especially so, have faith in Fuyuki now, but they have to convince Fuyuki himself that it's the case. It won't be easy for the ladies, especially since in all fairness said faith had been restored only because Izuku and Naomasa had cleared Fuyuki's name and confirmed that he wasn't a panty thief and a pervert. They had a lot of work ahead of them, and not just to train all of the teens at the training camp.
Ochaco realized that she and the other women also needed to train themselves to have more faith in the kids, their own kids especially so. As such, they decided that focusing on showing that they all believed in the teens, their own especially so, would be the next thing that they'd be working on at the training camp. However, it would be very difficult, mostly because they hadn't thought of anything to work on in terms of building and showing faith.
And it wasn't like the opportunity was just going to up and present itself.
...
Unbeknownst to everyone at the training camp, they were being spied on by Takuya Moononi, the leader of one of the three factions made up of the remnants of Mineta's gang. He was dressed in a dark bluish long-sleeved long coat that was closed until it reached below his waist, showing he wore light pants that disappeared into his tall dark boots. He also wore a white scarf around his neck, and he carried a pair of wakizashi, each sixteen inches long with four inch hilts and twelve inch blades.
Takuya was spying while hiding behind the trees. He had his men surround the area that all of the pro heroes and the heroes-in-training were in. "...Despite how the hero students bump up the numbers a bit, we still outnumber them notably," Takuya remarked quietly to himself, "But we can't afford to be reckless. We have to-" Takuya stopped short when, over by the cooking station that Eri Asui was manning, he spotted Ichigo helping Eri.
"...They brought Minoru-sama's daughter with them?" Takuya said worryingly, "Shit. We can't go in guns a blazing then. We'll have to just surround them first." After taking a quick look from the spot where he hid, Takuya raised his hand, waiting for the right moment to signal his men to all rush in to surround and capture everyone.
END, CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE
Author's notes;
Here the training camp kicks off in full, with the teens all picking their hero aliases, as well as get some training in. There was also some great care shown by Ochaco, who is still wanting to do what she can do gain back her son's love, trust and faith. But it will be a test for her, for all of the women, as the second of the three factions made up of the remnants of Mineta's gang will be dropping on in for a visit.
Take care, y'all.
