Graham family home. A week later.

Eventually, their time in Oregon came to an end. Thus, Johnse and Roseanna took a train back to the Tug River valley. Before they went home, they stopped at the Graham home where a very happy Jed and Alifair greeted them.

"Oh Roseanna, it's so good to have you home." Alifair said as she embraced her sister.

"I missed you so Alifair." Roseanna replied as she returned the hug.

"So Johnse, now that you been to Oregon, what you think of it?" Jed inquired as he shook hands with his friend. "Is it as good as you thought?"

"Nah, it's better." Johnse replied with a gleam in his eye. The couples went inside as Johnse and Roseanna told their guests about the wonders they had seen in the state of Oregon.

"The beach was so pretty, I was so sad when we had to leave." Roseanna said as Alifair made coffee for everyone.

"I can imagine." Jed replied with a genuine smile. He was glad that his friends had enjoyed themselves.

"Did you finally get rid of Billie Jo?" Johnse inquired as Jed shook his head.

"Nah, we caught his posse...but he got away." Jed replied as everyone let out a groan.

"We're all in danger as long as that animal is out there." Alifair insisted.

"He ain't going to hide forever." Jed assured his wife and friends. "He hates me too much ta just let it go."

"I'm afraid...not just for lil' Randall, but for my baby too." Roseanna said as she gently rubbed her large stomach. "I want it to grow up in a better world, not like the kind me n' Johnse had ta.

"My beautiful sweet darlin's right." Johnse said with a solemn nod. "This place...with all the feuding and the killing, it ain't no place for a child to live in."

"You ever thought about moving?" Jed asked as the couple looked at each other.

"Nah, we couldn't do that...this is all we know." Roseanna insisted as Johnse nodded in agreement. Jed sighed as he understood their reluctance to leave the Tug River Valley. He also felt guilty that their family was in danger because of his past grudge.
