From now on, the Arch-Emperor Dynasty would have three celestials!
Although that still wasn't as much as the other two imperial dynasties, they were now catching up. When small-scale friction arose, it wouldn't always fall to Gongsun Wan'er to handle matters. The Grand Heavenmaster and Giant Ghost King would now be able to join the fighting.
Furthermore, upon discovering how useful Bai Xiaochun's Future Will was, the Grand Heavenmaster created a whole set of plans that would culminate in the War Champion King and other demigod experts getting a chance to become celestials.
The Saint-Emperor Dynasty and the Vile-Emperor Dynasty took the matter very seriously. Obviously, when it came to a fighting force of celestials, it wouldn't be long before the Arch-Emperor Dynasty was in a very good position.
Despite that knowledge, there was little the other two dynasties could do about the situation. In his fear, the Saint-Emperor chose to try to maintain the best relations possible with Bai Xiaochun, whereas the Vile-Emperor went into secluded meditation.
Despite the increased threat the Arch-Emperor Dynasty posed within the Eternal Immortal Domains, there were no negative repercussions. They only continued to grow in terms of power and glory.
It was a huge boost to the demigods who were currently working toward a breakthrough. All of them went crazy in their cultivation, aided by the Grand Heavenmaster and Bai Xiaochun, and the medicinal pills they provided. Their progress was rapid, to say the least.
As the Arch-Emperor Dynasty continued to grow and develop, five years passed. By this point, Bai Dabao and Bai Xiaoxiao were both seven years old. They were beautiful children, with charming dimples that appeared whenever they smiled or laughed.
Bai Xiaoxiao's eyes were particularly bright, and from the look of things, she was going to be exceedingly attractive when she grew up. As for Bai Dabao, he was pure and fair, and had a stubborn air to him. Everyone in Arch-Emperor City loved the children, and treated them like they were chosen from the heavens.
The imperial palace was their playground, and they were constantly being chased around by special guards and female cultivators, who were always telling them to slow down and stop running….
The children had been born with shocking natural talents, to the point where even the Grand Heavenmaster was shocked. By the time they were seven, they already had Core Formation cultivation bases. And Bai Xiaoxiao, who was the older sister, was in late Core Formation!
When it came to fleshly body power, Bai Xiaoxiao's was rather ordinary, but Bai Dabao had already reached the Nascent Soul level!
In terms of personality, neither of them were very much like Bai Xiaochun. Bai Xiaoxiao had a fiery temper, whereas Bai Dabao was impulsive, and didn't seem the least bit afraid of dying. In fact, he was curious about everything, and loved challenging people to fights.
Bai Xiaochun noticed these things early on, and tried to correct their errant behavior. Unfortunately, no amount of persuasion on his part did any good….
Neither child was the least bit afraid of him. Conversely, they were terrified of Song Junwan and Zhou Zimo. And Bai Dabao, who wasn't afraid of anything else in the world, was most definitely afraid of his older sister.
In an out-of-the-way location within the imperial palace, Bai Xiaoxiao was currently staring furiously at Bai Dabao.
"This is all your fault Dabao!"
Bai Dabao stood there, his head hanging, not daring to respond. From the time he had been small all the way until now, when he was seven years old, he had always suffered at the hands of his sister. He always got the short end of the stick. When the two of them caused trouble, it always ended up being his fault, and when they did something praiseworthy, his sister took the credit….
From their parents' perspective, she was charming and obedient, but to him, she was a complete and utter tyrant….
All it took was for her to start crying, and their parents would rush over to comfort her. Meanwhile, he would be forced to stand there, stunned but stubborn, as his parents scolded him.
On the one hand, Bai Dabao admired his sister, but on the other hand, he feared her. At the same time, he loved her. Whenever she found something new and delicious to eat, or something fun to do, she would always think of him first. Thanks to her temptations, he thought of her as the best sister in the whole world….
"Do you know how long it took me to come up with this plan?" Bai Xiaoxiao said angrily. "Do you know how much preparation it took? And you actually showed up late by an entire incense stick's worth of time?! If this doesn't work out, Dabao, then I'm definitely going to beat you up!"
"I got held up by my mom!" Bai Dabao said, nearly under his breath. "I… I'll definitely try extra hard this time, alright?"
Bai Xiaoxiao nodded firmly in response. Waving her hand, she produced an immortal fruit that pulsed with so much spiritual energy it was obviously extraordinary. Bai Dabao's eyes instantly went wide. He knew that the immortal food provided by his father was always particularly beneficial for the fleshly body. And unfortunately, he didn't get many opportunities to eat food like this.
When Bai Xiaoxiao saw the look of anticipation on her brother's face, she smiled. "Here, you take it. I don't practice fleshly body cultivation, so this will help you a lot more than me."
Bopping her brother on the head, she handed the fruit to him.
Bai Dabao eagerly grabbed it and wolfed it down in a single bite. Then he thumped himself on the chest.
"Don't worry, sis. I'll definitely catch you a really awesome pet this time!"
Eyebrows shooting up in delight, Xiaoxiao proceeded to drag Dabao through the palace to one particular remote location. There, she produced a little flag from her bag of holding, which she waved through the air, creating a small cloud that the two of them hopped on. Then, the cloud proceeded to fly them out of the palace!
Of course, the imperial palace was strictly locked down by a powerful spell formation. However, spell formations were vulnerable to people who were familiar with their operation. And Bai Xiaoxiao was something of a genius when it came to spell formations. After much study, she had identified a weakness, and created this little flag to be able to get through it.
Apparently, this was not the first time the two of them had done this. Almost as soon as they vanished, someone stepped out of thin air in the spot they had left from. It was Lu Yuntao, Master God-Diviner's Daoist partner, who had been secretly keeping an eye on the children. Shaking her head, she vanished.
Lu Yuntao had since officially become a citizen of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, and as one of the few female demigods, had been assigned to oversee the palace maids.
As Dabao and Xiaoxiao grew older and more mischievous, and went to greater lengths to get out of the palace, Lu Yuntao had also gone to greater lengths to keep them safe. No matter how many times Song Junwan and Zhou Zimo lectured the children, Xiaoxiao and Dabao never listened, and always managed to find new ways to cause mischief.
To Xiaoxiao and Dabao, the rolling plains and endless jungles outside of Arch-Emperor City were the perfect playground. And the numerous vicious beasts that lurked there were the perfect prey.
Around evening, Xiaoxiao cheered and Dabao huffed for breath as they dragged a massive anaconda back toward the imperial palace.
It had once been the picture of ferocity, but was now covered with wounds. And whenever it struggled, Dabao would punch or kick it viciously, until it eventually just cowered in fear.
"If you dare to act up, I'll beat you to death!" Dabao shouted. "Behave yourself and be a good pet for my sister. Don't worry, she'll take good care of you!" After arriving at the palace, they used Xiaoxiao's flag to get both themselves and the snake back inside.
The two of them were convinced that no one was the wiser, but the truth was that Bai Xiaochun had been watching the entire time via divine sense. The fact that, at such a young age, they had actually gone out to capture such a terrifying creature caused a frown to appear on his face. He couldn't help but worry about what disasters might result if they kept doing such things.
"I know that they're a bit reckless, but I can't believe they actually went out and caught a snake like that! I wouldn't have even thought of doing something so dangerous when I was seven!" Snorting coldly, he decided to go teach his children a big lesson. Vanishing from his private chamber, he stepped out of thin air right in front of Xiaoxiao and Dabao.
If Song Junwan or Zhou Zimo had appeared, Dabao would have immediately begun to shiver in fear. But considering that it was only his father, he wasn't the least bit afraid at all. He even glared a bit at Bai Xiaochun.
Off to the side, Xiaoxiao smiled at him charmingly.
"Daddy!" she said, rushing forward to hug him.
Her voice dispelled about seventy percent of Bai Xiaochun's anger, but he still tried to look angry. Flicking his sleeve, he launched into a quick speech, "Xiaoxiao, Dabao, you can't do things like this. You listen to your father. You have to be cautious in everything! You can't be reckless. You only have one life, and you shouldn't ever risk it. Look at me! That's how I've lived my life! And that's the only reason I'm still around today, still working on living forever. If I had been as impulsive as you two, I would have lost my poor little life long ago!"
In response, Xiaoxiao pouted, and Dabao stomped his foot angrily.
"I totally disagree, dad!" Dabao said. "If anyone gets in my way, I just beat 'em up! What's the point in making things so complicated!?"

Chapter 1224: Don't Be Scared, Daddy
Bai Xiaochun already felt a headache coming on. Over the years, he had repeatedly tried to correct his son's incorrect view of life, but had never succeeded.
Xiaoxiao was a bit easier to deal with; Dabao was the true headache, and this huge snake was even more evidence of how gutsy he was. And Bai Xiaochun had heard many other stories of things Dabao had done, things that he would never have dared to do at that age….
For example, in recent years, ghosts and souls had gradually become more common, possibly because of the rise of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty. And yet Dabao had simply gone out and captured some for himself. He had even captured spies sent over by the Vile-Emperor Dynasty and the Saint-Emperor Dynasty.
And now he had gone and caught a gigantic snake. It was as if these two children actually loved ghosts, snakes, and the like….
They didn't seem scared of anything in heaven and earth. And Dabao seemed to jump at the chance to beat up anyone who offended him. On more than one occasion, Bai Xiaochun had actually scanned him with divine sense to make sure he was really his own child….
Were it not for the fluctuations within his blood that confirmed he was, Bai Xiaochun would actually have suspected otherwise….
The enormous snake that Dabao had captured actually had a high cultivation base, and had developed intelligence many years ago. Because of some certain types of fruits that it had consumed, it also had particularly powerful divine sense. Seeing that the Arch-Emperor seemed to be speaking up for it, it nervously sent out some divine sense to try to beg for mercy.
However, as soon as it did, Dabao noticed.
"Hey!" he shouted. "How dare you interrupt the grownups when we're talking. Are you just looking to get a beating!?" Eyes shining with ferocious light, he punched and kicked the snake a handful of times.
The snake shrieked in terror and humiliation, but couldn't do a single thing. Bai Xiaochun looked on, sighing.
"Dabao…." he said, feeling a bit sorry for the snake. Sincerely worried about the inappropriate behavior, he was just trying to think of what to say next, and whether or not he should start to act more strictly, when Xiaoxiao hurried over and pulled Dabao back.
"Dabao, you're supposed to cherish little creatures like that. You can't hit it!" Xiaoxiao's voice was warm and soft, very pleasant to the ear.
However, that was what Dabao feared most in his sister. In fact, he often feared her more than his own mother. Therefore, he immediately backed down and stood there obediently.
Planting her hands on her hips, Xiaoxiao said, "And you shouldn't be talking to daddy like that, Dabao. He's worked very hard to give us a happy and peaceful life. You apologize right this minute!"
When Bai Xiaochun saw all of this happening, his heart softened even further, and he felt more than ever that daughters were the best. He thought of how, even as a newborn, she would always laugh when he held her, and it caused warmth to rise up in his heart.
Even as that warmth appeared, Xiaoxiao continued to loudly scold Dabao.
"Dabao, you know that daddy has never been very brave. He was like that even when he was a kid! He's scared of dying, and you went and brought in a gigantic snake to scare him!?"
Bai Xiaochun's eyes went wide as he watched his daughter loudly scolding his son. He even started to get a bit dizzy. Just as he had been contemplating how to provide the proper life education for his children, Xiaoxiao accused Dabao of using the snake to try to scare him….
Bai Xiaochun was simply stunned.
"Xiaoxiao," he said, "you–"
Before he could finish, Xiaoxiao turned to look at him, a charming, innocent smile on her face as she said, "Daddy, Grandpa Qinghou told me all about those snakes that scared you so much when you were a kid. It was from that moment on that you feared three things in life: death, ghosts, and snakes! Don't be scared daddy, I'll teach Dabao a lesson he won't forget because of this!"
With that, she turned back to Dabao, who was standing there, head hung low.
"Dabao, this is very, very wrong. You listen to me. If you ever try to scare our daddy again, I'll beat the crap out of you!"
Looking quite humiliated, Dabao pouted and quietly said, "I won't scare daddy ever again, sis."
Bai Xiaochun was now completely bowled over. It was like his daughter could instantly fill blue skies with dark thunderclouds. Off to the side, Lu Yuntao was having a hard time holding back from laughing out loud.
Wanting to cry, but finding no tears to shed, Bai Xiaochun decided that he really had to establish himself as a figure of fatherly authority. Trying to sound as somber as possible, he said, "Xiaoxiao, what you said now was completely incorrect." Thumping himself on the chest, he continued, "Your daddy–"
But before he could say anything else, Xiaoxiao smiled sweetly and hugged his leg. Looking up at him, she spoke in a very comforting tone.
"Daddy, don't be scared. Dabao doesn't understand these things, but I'll teach him. Anyway, the two of us already decided a long time ago that before we even grow up, we'll make sure to catch all of the snakes and ghosts in the Arch-Emperor Dynasty.
"By the time we're grown up, we'll have them all cleared out. That way, they won't be able to scare you, daddy. Don't worry, Dabao and I are here to keep you safe!" Xiaoxiao seemed to be perfectly sincere in everything she was saying, to the point that Bai Xiaochun's heart twinged in response.
As for Dabao, it seemed to take a bit of effort, but he also nodded and said, "Daddy, I'm not sure why you're afraid of snakes and ghosts, but sis is right. From now on, you don't need to be scared. We two are here to keep you safe! We won't let any snakes or ghosts frighten you!"
What the two children were saying was actually the truth. Although they often snuck out of the palace because they thought it was fun, the real reason was the stories that Li Qinghou had told them of Bai Xiaochun's past. After hearing about the things that scared him, they decided that it was their mission to keep him safe.
To hear the children speaking in such a heartfelt fashion caused Lu Yuntao's smile to fade away, leaving her eyes glistening with emotion.
Bai Xiaochun was equally moved. Sighing at the realization of what was going on, he decided that now wasn't the time to try to educate his children. Tousling their hair, he turned to leave. But before he did, he looked over his shoulder.
"Your Grandpa Qinghou is actually wrong. The truth is… your daddy isn't scared of snakes, or ghosts. He's actually very brave!" Even as the words left his mouth, he heard the sound of throats being cleared behind him. Turning, he found Song Junwan and Zhou Zimo approaching, enigmatic smiles on their faces as they looked at him. Suddenly feeling embarrassed, he came up with a quick excuse to get away.
After returning to his private meditation chamber, he sat down and thought back on the conversation. Although he was still moved, he was also worried, and wasn't sure of what to do about the situation.
"I guess I can't force them to change their personalities. They need to walk their own path, and make their own future. The only thing I can do is try my best to protect them." He smiled.
"It's nice to have someone trying to keep you safe, especially when it's your own son and daughter."
Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and began to perform more auguries regarding twenty-three-colored flame.
After all the years he had spent doing research and study, he had reached a state of roughly ninety percent enlightenment. Now, he only needed to make some minor adjustments and improvements. He was confident that it wouldn't be long before he would perfect the formula for twenty-three-colored flame.
Another year passed, and the formula was finished. He opened his eyes excitedly and waved his right hand, causing a mass of souls to erupt from his bag of holding.
However, that was when he sensed something very strange from the direction of Gongsun Wan'er's official residence!
"That aura…. Something's wrong!"

The source of the aura was Gongsun Wan'er's immortal's cave!
Bai Xiaochun had originally expected to detect the aura of a breakthrough. After all, whenever he spent time in secluded meditation, he would occasionally send some divine sense out into Arch-Emperor City to check on things.
And for years now, Gongsun Wan'er had been hoping to break through to the mid Celestial Realm. That fact was no secret; it was known to Bai Xiaochun, the Grand Heavenmaster, and even others.
If Bai Xiaochun had not helped Gongsun Wan'er supplant Ghostmother, then given the resources she had built up, she shouldn't have had any problem achieving such a breakthrough.
The entire time that Gongsun Wan'er had been in the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, she had been in seclusion. Although she had fully absorbed Ghostmother, that was only the first step. And despite the fact that Ghostmother's consciousness was gone, there were still parts of her that remained.
As soon as Bai Xiaochun sensed the aura, he realized that in addition to the signs of an imminent breakthrough, there were also… fluctuations that indicated that something was struggling to awaken!
And Bai Xiaochun recognized those fluctuations; they belonged to Ghostmother!
Bai Xiaochun's face fell. Now was not the time to worry about conjuring flame, so he flicked his sleeve to gather up all the souls, and then vanished. When he reappeared, he was actually inside Gongsun Wan'er's immortal's cave.
There she sat, trembling, her eyes tightly closed. Mist swirled on her face, some of it black, some of it white. The black mist seemed to be in the process of consuming the white mist, and succeeding.
Clearly, that black color represented Ghostmother, and the white represented Gongsun Wan'er. At the moment, Bai Xiaochun was the only person in the Arch-Emperor Dynasty who realized what was happening, and also the only person who could save Gongsun Wan'er!
"Well that's fine!" he thought. "I'll take advantage of the situation to totally crush Ghostmother, and give Gongsun Wan'er complete control. That way, even if she needs to be resurrected by means of her Daoseed, she would still come back as herself!!" After being absorbed, Ghostmother's mark still existed, and because she was still part of Gongsun Wan'er, Bai Xiaochun would not have been able to erase it even if he wanted to. It would have harmed Ghostmother, but would also have harmed Gongsun Wan'er as well, perhaps irreversibly.
Now, Ghostmother was taking advantage of this critical moment in Gongsun Wan'er's breakthrough to try to defeat her. However, that also gave Bai Xiaochun a rare opportunity.
Snorting coldly, he reached out and touched her forehead, then sent some divine sense streaming into her sea of consciousness.
The waters there were both black and white, with the black side seething and churning as it attempted to overwhelm the white side.
Just barely visible within that black seawater was a face that resembled Gongsun Wan'er's, but was more vicious, and burning with ghost qi! That was none other than Ghostmother's consciousness!
There was no face visible within the white side, as though Gongsun Wan'er's consciousness was already gone!
Bai Xiaochun's divine sense appeared right within the black seawater, amidst thunderous rumblings.
"Bai Xiaochun!!" Ghostmother shouted from within the black water. At the same time, the water began to rise up, transforming into a huge giant!
Filled with rage, she reached out toward Bai Xiaochun, hoping to crush him and consume his divine sense.
This was not a case of Ghostmother ignoring the height of the heavens and the breadth of the earth. She had been in a state of slumber for a long time, and despite having consumed much of Gongsun Wan'er's consciousness, had not pinned down her true soul. As such, Ghostmother had no idea that Bai Xiaochun had already become the Arch-Emperor.
"You've bitten off a bit more than you can chew!" Bai Xiaochun replied, eyeing Ghostmother coldly. Then he reached out, unleashing his Undying Emperor's Fist. He didn't resort to his Sovereign's Fist, as that was unnecessary. Even still, it caused massive waves to roll out across the sea of consciousness.
"That… that…." Ghostmother's face fell as she retreated. However, she moved too slowly, and the shadowy emperor joined Bai Xiaochun to strike her with heaven-shaking, earth-shattering force.
Deafening rumbling sounds could be heard. This was Ghostmother's sea of consciousness, and she had the advantage, having just consumed Gongsun Wan'er, giving her the ability to unleash the power of the mid Celestial Realm.
Despite that, when facing cultivation base power like this… she was defeated instantly!!
Ghostmother screamed as the gigantic figure made of black water collapsed, and her consciousness shattered into thousands of evil ghosts that began to flee in all directions.
Bai Xiaochun ignored them; if he wanted to, he could track them down with minimal effort.
But the most important thing was to find Gongsun Wan'er's true soul. He had been able to tell earlier that Ghostmother had consumed much of Gongsun Wan'er's consciousness, but not her true soul. Otherwise, she wouldn't have attacked him so recklessly.
With Ghostmother's consciousness having been shattered, the sea below was not black, but nearly transparent. Without any hesitation, he shot down into it and sent his divine sense out to search for Gongsun Wan'er.
Occasionally he would encounter the evil ghosts that were fragments of Ghostmother's consciousness, which he would destroy and feed back into the sea of consciousness.
It didn't take long before his divine sense locked down onto something at the bottom of the sea: a huge sword!
Bai Xiaochun immediately recognized it. It was… the fallen sword from the Heavenspan Realm, which had once been a prized possession of Gu Tianjun!
It looked exactly the same as Bai Xiaochun remembered it, and he could even see gaps and cracks on its surface, within which was… the Fallen Sword Abyss!
He moved in a blur, appearing next to the sword. Right now, the sense he got from the sword was very different than back when he had been in the Qi Condensation stage, fighting with Song Que over heavenstring energy.
Pushing such thoughts aside, he approached one of the gaps and entered the Fallen Sword Abyss. Inside were thick mists, filled with howling cries that reminded him of the banesouls of the past.
Ignoring such cries, he followed the sensations he received through his divine sense until he reached a certain mist-filled valley. After entering the valley, he breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing a trembling little girl huddling in a far corner, clad in a long white garment!
That little girl was the true soul of Gongsun Wan'er!
Apparently, having lost much of her consciousness, she had also been bereft of most of her memories. She was also incredibly weak. When she sensed Bai Xiaochun, she looked up, fear in her eyes.
"Sweetie, are you… going to eat me…?"
Bai Xiaochun sighed, immediately taking pity on her. Shaking his head, he slowly approached, whereupon the girl wrapped her arms around his leg.
"There are a lot of ghosts out there, sweetie. It's really scary. Why don't you hide here with me?"
Squatting down, he looked at her, his eyes soft as he said, "Don't be afraid, Wan'er. Let me get you out of here, okay?"
She shivered, memories beginning to trickle back into her mind. For some unknown reason, she instinctively trusted this young man.
A moment passed, and she nodded. However, she gripped his hand tightly, and was clearly not willing to let go of it.
Holding her hand, he led her out of the Fallen Sword Abyss. As soon as they appeared back out in the sea of consciousness, the numerous evil ghosts suddenly went crazy, and began to fly toward her with mouths wide open.
But with Bai Xiaochun there, they had no hope of consuming her. As they neared, they screamed and shattered. Before long, he had destroyed all of them.
With each one that vanished, Gongsun Wan'er's consciousness began to return to her. Soon, she closed her eyes. However, her hand continued to grip Bai Xiaochun's hand tightly.
Bai Xiaochun was still worried. Sending his divine sense out, he reconfirmed that all of the traces of Ghostmother had been completely destroyed. Smiling, he sent his divine sense back into his body.
In Gongsun Wan'er's chamber, he shivered as he awoke. Reaching out, he touched the top of Gongsun Wan'er's head with his index finger and gently pushed down. Just as he was pulling it away, Gongsun Wan'er suddenly reached up and clasped his hand….
Her eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes. Smiling warmly, she spoke, a slight, teasing tone in her voice.
"Thank you, sweetie."

Chapter 1226: A Journey Through The Void!
There was something about the way she held his hand, and something about her soft gaze and faint smile, that contained indescribable splendor. Somehow, it was very attractive….
It seemed like actual hooks dragging him toward her!
After returning to his own private chamber, he couldn't stop thinking about one particular question.
"Did something really go wrong with her breakthrough, giving Ghostmother a chance to make a move? Or… did Gongsun Wan'er do it all on purpose?" Although there was no way for him to answer the question, the latter seemed a highly likely possibility.
Since there was no way to determine the answer, he stopped thinking about it. Waving his hand to produce a large amount of souls, he once again began to work on twenty-three-colored flame.
In all of the Eternal Immortal Domains, and even beyond it, twenty-three-colored flame had never existed. Bai Xiaochun had traveled farther along the path of the heavenly necromancer than anyone in history, all thanks to the genius of Bai Hao.
This time, it took him many years to shape the formula for twenty-three-colored flame. And yet, even after all that time, and all of the augury, he still wasn't confident enough to actually try to conjure the flame.
It was made worse by the fact that he had so few souls to work with. Most of them he had acquired from the treasured fan, and based on his calculations, he only had enough for four attempts.
If he failed four times in a row, he wouldn't have enough souls to continue his work. The upside was that after the founding of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, some mysterious natural law had come into play which caused the territory they controlled to begin to transform in a way that resembled the Heavenspan Realm. Souls had begun to appear out in the open, prompting Bai Xiaochun to issue a Dharmic decree for spirit enhancers to work as hard as possible to collect them.
After enough time passed, enough souls were collected to allow one more attempt at conjuring the flame.
"Only five chances…." he thought. He looked at the souls, and then reviewed his new formula. Finally, his eyes shone with determination, and he made his first attempt at the conjuring.
As the souls converged and began to show signs of forming into a multi-colored flame, Bai Xiaochun's complete attention was focused on the task at hand. Seven days later, his expression flickered, and he quickly performed a double-handed incantation gesture. Using the power of his cultivation base, he forcibly suppressed the power of the explosion that had just resulted when the flame destabilized.
A muffled boom could be heard as he watched the chaotic flame slowly fading away. Afterwards, he sat there, clearly frustrated, his eyes bloodshot, his mind racing as he analyzed the process to determine what had gone wrong.
He spent several months on auguries and analysis. Skipping sleep and other daily tasks, he focused with mad intensity as he tried to solve all previous problems. At that point, he began his second attempt!
Unfortunately, it was also a failure!
It was the same with his third and fourth attempts….
Each time, he spent longer and longer trying to perfect his formula and solve all the problems. By the time he was ready for his fifth attempt, three years had gone by!
Dabao and Xiaoxiao were as naughty as ever, and the Arch-Emperor Dynasty continued to grow and flourish. Furthermore, the War Champion King finally broke through to become a celestial!
The Arch-Emperor Dynasty now had four celestials! Yet again, the dynasty grew stronger and more powerful!
That was when Bai Xiaochun began his fifth attempt!
If he failed, then he would have no more souls, and who knew how long it would be before he could collect enough for another try. On this fifth attempt, he was seventy percent certain that he would succeed in creating a twenty-three-colored flame!
After working with careful and complete precision, another color appeared in the chaotic flame in front of him. As it resolved into a twenty-third color, an indescribable aura surged out from Bai Xiaochun's private chamber!
Not even the spell formation protecting his private chamber was powerful enough to contain that aura. In fact, it even burst through the imperial palace's spell formation, as well as the one covering the city itself!
As the aura surged, the sky went dim, and the clouds churned. Multi-colored light filled the air, until a majestic sea of fire was present, filled with twenty-three different colors!
It immediately attracted the attention of everyone in the area, especially the cultivators from the Heavenspan Realm. They were profoundly shaken, a sensation that came from their very blood.
"That's…."
"How many colors is that?"
"Heavens! That's… a twenty-three-colored flame!!"
Cries of astonishment filled Arch-Emperor City, and soon, the laughter of Bai Xiaochun joined them.
His face was lit with excitement as he looked at the tongue of twenty-three-colored flame flickering in his palm. It was literally impossible for him to stay calm, as he had sensed that, as soon as the twenty-three-colored flame came into existence, the mark on the back of his hand that represented Bai Hao shivered.
This twenty-three-colored flame would be of immense help to Bai Hao!
Following instinct alone, Bai Xiaochun tried to still his trembling as he sent the twenty-three-colored flame into Bai Hao's mark!
As the two merged together, the mark vibrated with increasing intensity. Of course, Bai Xiaochun was feeling very nervous; the idea of using multi-colored flame to resurrect Bai Hao was only something he had come up with by means of speculation.
He had no way to know for sure if his idea would work. But now… from the fluctuations he sensed coming from the mark, he had an intense premonition!
"If I can send thirty-colored flame into Hao'er's mark, then… he can definitely be resurrected!!" Merely thinking back to how Bai Hao had passed away caused his heart to twinge with pain.
Bai Hao was the only apprentice he had ever taken in his entire life!
After the twenty-three-colored flame fully merged into the mark on his hand, Bai Xiaochun's eyes shone with determination!
Before, he had possessed no evidence to confirm that he could use flame conjuring techniques to resurrect Bai Hao. But as of this moment, he had a new path laid out in front of him.
"I need more souls!" he said, a solemn expression overtaking his face. His stockpile of souls had run out, and the treasured fan had no more souls in it. However, there was a place that had what was surely an endless supply of souls!
He looked up into the sky, which from this perspective looked like a starry sky, but which was actually a vast void!
"That dark void is filled with countless ruins and unending rubble. It also has… endless souls of the deceased!" In the years since he had founded his own nation, he had only gone back to the fan a few times to check on Song Que.
Now that he knew how to resurrect Bai Hao, he made a new decision!
"I'll use the fan to travel through the void, conjuring flame and collecting souls! Once I make that thirty-colored flame, I'll resurrect Hao'er!" Having reached the conclusion that this was definitely the best idea, he sent his divine sense to check on Song Junwan, Zhou Zimo, Dabao, and Xiaoxiao.
Although he would be traveling a great distance away from them, he could return to the Arch-Emperor Dynasty at any time by means of teleportation. However, just to be safe, he decided to leave some divine sense behind in the form of a clone, ready to take action at a moment's notice if necessary.
He didn't tell his family of his plan. He simply touched his forehead, causing a clone to step out from him, which sat down cross-legged and began to meditate.
Without any further hesitation, he vanished… to reappear in the darkness of the void, on the treasured fan!
He was about to embark on a journey through the void, to collect souls!

Ten years passed in the blink of an eye.
Soft light surrounded the fan as it shot through the inky darkness. As it passed along, a glowing trail spread out behind it, making it look almost like a shooting star.
Bai Xiaochun sat cross-legged on the sovereign's arm, within the face of the fan. Occasionally, he would open his eyes and look out into the void, his eyes sparkling.
It almost seemed like black was the only color out here. However, during the ten years he had spent traversing the void, he had occasionally encountered ruins or rubble, and collected a good number of souls.
Although he was anxious to accomplish his goal, there was nothing else he could do to make things go faster. Furthermore, the fan was clearly following a specific course. Although he could change its speed, and could temporarily make it move in another direction, it would always return to its previous course eventually.
Considering he didn't have any specific destination in mind, he finally gave up adjusting the direction, and allowed it to fly along as it wished. As it did, he sat there cross-legged, meditating, and working on the formula for twenty-five-colored flame.
Bai Xiaochi fawned over him the entire time, until Bai Xiaochun finally began to consider letting him change his name.
Bai Xiaochi was excited about that. Furthermore he had gotten used to flattering Bai Xiaochun, to the point where it was almost an instinct now….
At the moment, he was standing behind Bai Xiaochun, massaging his shoulders and occasionally checking his facial expression.
"Am I pushing too hard, milord? I researched some new massage techniques recently that I want to try out."
Bai Xiaochi was very pleased with the level of ingratiating. When he was in a good mood, he would reward Bai Xiaochi with a smile, which would get the little spirit automaton excited for an entire day.
At the moment, it was only possible to summon one archaean slave. But now, the archaean slave's range wasn't limited to the world of the fan face. He could now leave that world to stand on the surface of the fan. Although he couldn't leave the fan, it did make him much more capable of defending it. If the Vile-Emperor somehow managed to find them now, it wouldn't be as much of a big deal.
As for dealing with any threatening forces they encountered, the fan had plenty of defenses of its own, all of them quite formidable. In fact, during the past ten years, it had struck ruins or rubble on more than one occasion.
And thus, Bai Xiaochun's journey through the void continued. Another three years passed…. He was now almost done with his research into twenty-five-colored flame. Considering the number of souls he had collected, he was able to perform two tests, both of which failed.
One day as he sat there cross-legged in meditation, a tremor passed through him. Usually, he spent his time with his divine sense spread out to detect objects around him in the void. Right now, his eyes opened, and they shone brightly as he hurried to the edge of the fan to look out into the darkness.
Bai Xiaochi noticed what was happening, and materialized next to him, where he also looked out excitedly into the void.
There, far off in the distance, was a dot of white light!
As it got closer, it was obvious that it was a huge lamp!!
It was fully 3,000 meters in height, and seemed to just be floating along through the void. At a certain point, Bai Xiaochun's eyes went wide as he realized that the lamp was being followed by… innumerable souls!
From what he could tell, there must be hundreds upon hundreds of millions of them. All of them were completely expressionless, and seemed to pulse with an aura of death!
It was truly a shocking sight to behold.
After all the years spent traveling through the void, this was Bai Xiaochun's first time seeing anything like this. Excited, he caused the fan to slow down.
"So many souls!" he exclaimed, licking his lips. In all of his years searching for souls, this was definitely the largest number yet.
"Have you ever seen anything like this, Bai Xiaochi?" he asked.
Although Bai Xiaochi still didn't like his name, he was so shaken by what he was seeing that he immediately shook his head and said, "Although I spent a lot of my time asleep, milord, I did spend many, many years awake. And I never saw anything like this. Those souls… heavens! Where are they all heading?"
Bai Xiaochun looked on with narrowed eyes; it was a strange situation, and he didn't want to do anything too rash.
It was even stranger considering that the souls didn't seem to have noticed the fan. Carefully issuing another order to the fan, he sent it follow the souls, hoping to figure out where they were going.
He followed them for several years…. On numerous occasions, the fan would attempt to return to its primary trajectory, until Bai Xiaochun finally ran out of patience and started using Soul Convergence Pill to slowly pilfer the souls.
The Dark Concocters had been making Soul Convergence Pills day and night, so he had plenty at his disposal. Eventually, he managed to get his hands on all of the hundreds upon hundreds of millions of souls….
With that many souls, it only took a few more tests to succeed with twenty-five-colored flame, whereupon he continued on to research twenty-six-colored flame.
Although he was tempted to just let the fan go back to its original course, he was still curious about this lamp's final destination. For all he knew, there might be even more souls there.
A few months later, that final destination approached. When Bai Xiaochun saw what it was, his mind began to spin. Right there within the void, in front of the lamp, was an enormous well!!
It was fully 30,000 meters across, and pulsed with an undulating mist that filled the area! As for the lamp, it flew directly into the well!
Even more shocking was the fact that he could clearly see other lamps approaching from random directions, more than ten of them. And each one entered the well.
"So many souls!" he exclaimed excitedly. However, it was such a strange scene that he hesitated about whether or not to try to capture the souls.
"Heavens! What is this place?!" Bai Xiaochi exclaimed, clearly stunned, and having not a clue about what he was looking at.
Bai Xiaochun waited there, torn about what to do. However, as he watched the lamps simply disappearing into the well, he couldn't take it any longer.
"This mysterious well is probably dangerous," he said through gritted teeth, "but this place is too good to pass up. I'll just wait here for a lamp to come along. Only one! As long as I don't get close to the well, I should be fine!" He couldn't let this opportunity slip by, especially considering how many souls he needed to continue his work with twenty-six-colored flame. Eyes flickering with madness, he sat down to wait.
Half a month later, he saw another lamp lazily floating toward the well. Eyes glittering, he sent the fan over to it and then flew out and began to toss out masses of Soul Convergence Pill. Booms could be heard as the souls were quickly taken away by Bai Xiaochun.
"I'm rich!" he exclaimed. Hurrying back onto the fan, he sat down nervously to see if anything would happen. A few days later, his courage began to build.
"Hahaha! Nothing happened after all! This place is a blessed land for Bai Xiaochun!" Eyes shining, he decided to wait for another lamp to show up.
A few days later, it came….
And thus, Bai Xiaochun madly began to collect souls, completely clearing out any of the lamps which approached.
However, Bai Xiaochi already had a very bad feeling about what was going on, and frequently warned Bai Xiaochun about what he was doing.
"You should quit while you're ahead, milord. I have a bad feeling about this…."

Chapter 1228: Paper World!
Waving his hand nonchalantly, he said, "Don't you worry! I have a lot of experience with this kind of thing!"
Filled with excitement at the thought of getting so many souls, he sat down to wait.
At first, the lamps would come every few days. But a few months later, the frequency dropped to one every few weeks.
Eventually, four months passed in which no lamps came, much to his disappointment. Furthermore, the well itself was beginning to flicker oddly, as though it might vanish at any moment.
From the look of it, it would be gone within a month. Not willing to give up, Bai Xiaochun finally fixed his gaze on the well itself.
"This thing is so mysterious! I wonder what it is. And I wonder when I'll encounter something like it again…." He was truly torn between his desire to collect souls, and his fear of the potential danger.
Eventually, he came to the conclusion that, considering he had been here for so long without seeing anything dangerous, he might as well go a bit further. With that, he sent the fan closer to the well and activated the fan's ability to consume other things.
"If I could suck that well into the fan, that would be perfect!"
Bai Xiaochi yelped an objection, but did nothing to interfere. And thus, the fan slammed directly into the well.
Oddly, there were no intense rumbling sounds as Bai Xiaochun and Bai Xiaochi had expected. It was almost as if the well existed in a different dimension, or was transparent; the fan passed right through it!
Bai Xiaochun gasped in shock. This was his first time encountering a situation that the fan wasn't capable of handling. After passing through the well, Bai Xiaochun looked back at it, and hesitated for a very long moment about what to do. He could give up, but at the same time, couldn't stop thinking about all of the souls that possibly existed within that well. Finally, he decided to throw caution to the wind.
"Just taking a quick look inside shouldn't be a problem…." Gritting his teeth, he sent the fan toward the entrance of the well itself!
Upon nearing, he unleashed the power of his cultivation base, and sent some divine sense out. However, the well seemed isolated from his divine sense, making it impossible to see what was inside. He could only approach physically.
Nothing about the situation seemed dangerous, and although that caused him to sigh with relief, he didn't let his guard down. Heart pounding, he looked down into the well itself.
What he saw caused his eyes to go wide.
It was a completely different world!!
It was as if the entrance to the well were the sky of that world. Even more shocking, the entire world seemed to be made from paper!!
Lands, mountains, rivers, buildings; everything was paper. Visible on the surface of all that paper were countless souls, the quantity of which defied anything Bai Xiaochun could have imagined….
The world seemed very orderly. The souls were strictly ranked by level, and included the souls of devas, demigods, and celestials. There was even a group of paper people clustered around an archaean soul!
It all seemed completely unbelievable. However, it was at that point that, out of the blue, Bai Xiaochi shouted, "Behind you, milord! There's–"
Before Bai Xiaochi could even finish speaking, a withered hand stretched out of thin air behind Bai Xiaochun, and pushed him!
It wasn't moving particularly fast, but Bai Xiaochun didn't even have the time to look over his shoulder, or react in any other way. And any resistance was useless.
Massive force slammed into him, provoking a shriek of surprise as he was shoved directly into the well!
At the same time, a figure became visible, a stooped old woman who held a lamp in her hand. As Bai Xiaochun fell inside the well, she stood on its edge, looking back at the fan behind her.
When Bai Xiaochi found himself the subject of her gaze, all his hair stood on end, and he sent all of the fan's defenses into high gear, including the aura of the sovereign's arm.
Two clouded eyes existed within the old woman's wrinkled face, and they flickered with mysterious light. Suddenly, she smiled, a vicious smile filled with yellowed teeth. Then, she turned and vanished.
Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun screamed as he fell down into the paper world below. Eventually, he got control of his momentum, and slowed to a halt. As he hovered there, he looked around, and then back up into the sky, which was when he saw nine faces!
All of the faces resembled old women, their features identical, their eyes closed, but their mouths open. From what Bai Xiaochun could tell, he had fallen out of one of those mouths.
"The well was actually one of their mouths?!?! Who pushed me? An old woman? What level of cultivation base does she have?!?!" Taking a deep breath, he prepared to think of a way to leave, but before he could, something happened.
His body… began to turn into paper!!
In fact, his hands were already completely paper….
His mind began to spin at the realization that this was the deadliest situation he had been in since the founding of the new Arch-Emperor Dynasty!
Even his fight with the Vile-Emperor had been within the bounds of his own control, but this was different. There was no time for thought or planning; he immediately unleashed the full power of his cultivation base, as well as the powers of regeneration from his Undying Codex. However, although they could slow the process, they couldn't stop it. It was as if the natural laws within the world itself demanded that all living things who entered it become paper!
"Dammit. DAMMIT!" Bai Xiaochun cursed, his eyes bloodshot. He didn't have the slightest desire to be a paper person with glowing red eyes, and therefore, he howled and tried to escape the world.
Unfortunately, that was when all of the other paper people in the world suddenly looked up at the now stunned Bai Xiaochun. The souls attached to them all had cold, sinister auras as they howled and began to charge in his direction.
In the blink of an eye, they were closing in, unleashing countless divine abilities and magical techniques.
The magics took the form of bits of paper, each of which thrummed with the power of the natural laws in this world. Unfortunately, not even Bai Xiaochun's Undying Codex was able to do much to protect him. By this point, his entire arm was now paper!
"Complete and utter bullying!!" he shouted. To his frustration, none of his own divine abilities seemed effective at all, not even the Sutra of Future Pāramitā. Gritting his teeth, he used his non-paper arm to grab a handful of Soul Convergence Pills, which he threw out behind him. As they exploded, they sucked in the nearby souls, which seemed to deprive the paper people of their life force, causing them to simply float down to the ground.
If he weren't being turned into paper, he might have been satisfied with that, and even viewed this place as a holy land. But he was too anxious to be pleased. Tossing out Soul Convergence Pills left and right, and collecting the soul spheres they formed, he shot toward the mouths of the old women, high in the sky.
Unfortunately, there were just too many paper people. One was a group powered by celestial souls, led by an archaean soul. As they closed in, Bai Xiaochun was gripped with a sensation of deadly crisis, and immediately tried to reach out to the treasured fan. Although he could barely make contact, it was at least enough to summon a beam of Archaean Luminescence!

Chapter 1229: Old Paper Woman
Bai Xiaochun had never been in a situation like this before, and it was terrifying. Furthermore, it was the first time out in the void that he had ever felt that he was truly in danger!
The paper people alone weren't very worrisome. They were tough to deal with, but he was confident that he could crush them in the end. Even though divine abilities didn't work on them, his Soul Convergence Pills gave him enough of an edge to defeat them.
But the bizarre nature of the world itself felt like a sharp blade hanging over his head. If things kept going the way they were, it seemed like he might end up as a paper person himself.
Even worse than all that were the faces of the old women in the sky, and the mysterious entity who had pushed him into this world to begin with. All of it made his scalp tingle with fear.
Right now, there was only one thing he wanted: to get out of his place as quickly as possible!
Therefore, he reached out to the fan and summoned ten shots of Archaean Luminescence, all at one time. Out in the void, the fan shone with dazzling light as ten beams of light shot into the rapidly fading well.
Rumbling sounds filled the world as the Archaean Luminescence descended, which was equivalent to an archaean expert attacking ten times in a row. In fact, it was such a powerful force that it ripped open a hole in the sky!
In response, all of the paper people, as well as the souls, let out piercing howls. And yet, almost as soon as it opened up, the hole began to close! Clearly, the damage would be repaired in a very short time!
Not willing to let the opportunity slip away, Bai Xiaochun drew upon the full power of his cultivation base to speed toward the opening, using Soul Convergence Pills to carve a path through the paper people and the souls that got in his way.
Thanks to his incredible speed, he was soon right in front of the hole. As the aura of the outside void entered the paper world through the hole, he was once again able to utilize his divine abilities, and resorted to the Undying Hex and his Mountain Shaking Bash to get another burst of speed. He looked exactly like a shooting star as he shot out of the hole in the final moment before it closed!!By that point, thirty percent of his body had already turned into paper. Thankfully, after reaching the void, his Undying Codex began to repair the damage.
Before he could breathe a sigh of relief, he heard a coughing sound behind him, followed by muffled howls!
Bai Xiaochun's hair immediately stood on end as he realized that the cough must have come from the same person who had shoved him into the well. He immediately began to flee, and even as he did, a huge hand reached out toward him, so withered that it looked like it must belong to a corpse!
Bai Xiaochun's heart began to pound wildly; although the hand didn't give him the sensation that it belonged to a sovereign, it seemed like the peak of the Archaean Realm.
"What is this thing?!" he thought, on the verge of wailing. Without any hesitation, he drew upon his five remaining shots of Archaean Luminescence and sent them all toward the huge hand.
Booms rang out as the Archaean Luminescence slammed into the hand, causing it to lurch to a halt. Then, Bai Xiaochun took advantage of the shockwaves from the impact to put more distance between himself and the hand. At the same time, Bai Xiaochi sent the fan shooting toward Bai Xiaochun. Within moments, Bai Xiaochun was back on the fan.
As his foot touched down, the huge hand recovered, and began to move in the direction of the fan in even more menacing fashion than before.
Shrieking, Bai Xiaochi scrambled to try to hide inside of the fan itself. Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun, his face ashen from fear, let out a shout as he took control of the fan and sent it hurtling, not away from the hand, but toward it!
A massive boom could be heard as the two collided. The huge hand was immediately shoved backward, and the fan was sent spinning off in the opposite direction.
If that had been all there was to it, Bai Xiaochun might have just commanded the fan to flee. But that was when a second withered hand suddenly materialized and shot toward the fan.
"Time to put everything on the line!" he shouted. There was no time for fear or hesitation. He knew that if he didn't go absolutely all out, then the danger would only grow more critical.
Dazzling light cascaded off of the fan as the arm of the sovereign once again shot out from the fan face. Bai Xiaochun and Bai Xiaochi were yet again cooperating to defend the fan! Even the archaean slave appeared, using the power of the sovereign's arm to emerge from the fan and shoot toward the menacing enemy!
The surrounding void trembled as the sovereign's arm flew out. Meanwhile, the withered hand suddenly stopped moving, seemingly shocked to see something of this level. Unfortunately for the hand, there was no time for it to retreat before the sovereign's arm hit it.
A boom could be heard as, for the first time, the withered hand was damaged and began to crumble. However, the sovereign's arm was also hurt, and the archaean slave was coughing up blood. Both of them spun and returned to the fan face.
All of this takes a bit of time to describe, but happened in the shortest of moments. Trembling, Bai Xiaochun immediately commanded the fan to flee.
"Dammit!" Bai Xiaochi shrieked. "This is all your fault! I told you we should have left, but you got greedy!" Unfortunately, the moment of danger had not yet passed. Even as Bai Xiaochi and Bai Xiaochun fled on the fan, a roar of rage echoed out from the well!
Next, to the complete disbelief of Bai Xiaochun, the well began to grow in size, twisting and distorting as it became… a huge lamp!
The well was actually just the top portion of the lamp! As the lamp appeared in full, fluctuations rolled out into the void as something vastly larger than the lamp appeared. It was an enormous… old woman, made completely from paper!
She wore burial clothes, also made from paper, and had a ferocious glint in her eyes.
"You can't escape!" she howled in a voice that sounded like countless people speaking at once. Then, she began to walk through the void toward the fan, and Bai Xiaochun.
Bai Xiaochun was so scared that his eyes bulged, and he felt like weeping.
"Heavens!" he blurted. "I was just collecting some souls. How did I end up provoking a freak like this!?!?"
Bai Xiaochi was shrieking just as loudly, urging Bai Xiaochun to flee as quickly as possible.
"She's not a sovereign, but she might as well be!" Bai Xiaochun's heart was pounding, and he was seriously considering retreating to the Eternal Immortal Domains.
He had actually attempted to do so back in the world of the paper people, but had failed. Now that he was on the fan itself, he was fairly certain that it would work. However, he couldn't simply leave Song Que and Bai Xiaochi in such danger. Furthermore, it would also cut off the path he had been treading, which he wasn't willing to do.
Gritting his teeth, he decided that he wouldn't give up unless there was absolutely no other alternative. Thankfully, the treasured fan was capable of incredible speed, and although the old woman was putting up a good chase, she couldn't actually catch up.
Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun was completely focused on maintaining top speed, aware that if he slipped up, she would catch up to them and slaughter them.
Scowling on the verge of tears, he kept the fan moving forward. Half a month passed by in a flash, during which time the old woman chased them relentlessly.
The chase continued. For three years!
During that time, Bai Xiaochi complained and grumbled constantly.
Eventually, Bai Xiaochun mostly got used to the situation. Although he wasn't particularly terrified, he was starting to get very exhausted, to the point where his hair was disheveled, and he had dark circles under his deeply bloodshot eyes.
After three years, the old woman seemed to be slowing down in her pursuit. Enlivened, Bai Xiaochun gobbled down some medicinal pills and then accelerated. A few months later, he couldn't even see the old woman behind them.
"So stingy! I just took a few souls, and she chased me for three years because of it?!" The mere thought of those three bitter years filled him with depression.

Chapter 1230: Hourglass Precious Treasures
Despite having successfully shaken the old woman, Bai Xiaochun still didn't feel completely at ease. Gritting his teeth, he sent the fan flying along for another few months.
At that point, he glanced over at the dispirited Bai Xiaochi, and rubbed his nose awkwardly.
"Er… hey Little Bai, why don't you go rest up a bit. It's been a long three years!"
Bai Xiaochi cast him an angry glare, and thought about giving him a piece of his mind. But at the moment, he was just too exhausted, and simply faded from view.
Upon seeing that the spirit automaton had gone to sleep, Bai Xiaochun breathed a sigh of relief. After all, he knew that he was in the wrong. If he hadn't gotten greedy, then they wouldn't have had to deal with the three year chase.
And yet, the gains he had made three years before caused his eyes to light up when he thought about them. Looking down, he thought about the vast number of souls that now existed in his bag of holding!
"I struck it rich this time! Now I have plenty of ingredients for multi-colored flame!" Considering that there was no imminent threat of danger, he set the fan to auto-pilot and then found a good place to go into seclusion and begin a session of flame conjuring.
He had finished his formula for twenty-five-colored flame three years ago, but had run out of souls to perform tests. Now that his stock was replenished, there was nothing holding him back.
A failure wouldn't be a big deal, nor would two. Even ten wouldn't cause him to pause for breath. This time, it didn't take long at all to perform the experiments and solve all of the problems with the formula. At that point, he actually conjured a full twenty-five-colored flame.
A wide smile broke out onto his face, especially considering the fact that he still had a lot of souls left.
With that, he went about working on twenty-six-colored flame, and at the same time, advancing his cultivation. As he flew along in the void, three more years passed.
During that time, he completed his initial formula, and also refined his cultivation base significantly. Eventually, Bai Xiaochi woke up and took control of the fan, pushing it forward with greater speed than before.
Around the time that Bai Xiaochun was about to make his first attempt to conjure a twenty-six-colored flame, the fan suddenly vibrated. Even as Bai Xiaochun and Bai Xiaochi looked around in shock, a familiar voice filled their ears in the form of an angered howl.
"You can't escape!!"
Eyes widening, Bai Xiaochun shrieked, "It's that old ghost woman!!"
Sending his divine sense out, he caught sight of the same old paper woman, with the lamp in her hand.
Bai Xiaochun felt like he was about to go crazy, and Bai Xiaochi gasped in shock, shaken by the old ghost woman's obsessive determination. As she closed in, Bai Xiaochun's eyes turned bloodshot, and he and Bai Xiaochi powered up the fan, sending it speeding off into the distance!
Not willing to be so easily cowed, Bai Xiaochun took the half-formed twenty-six-colored flame he held in his hand and threw out behind him, hoping to burn the paper woman into ash. However, she simply swallowed the flame!
Scalp tingling with fear, Bai Xiaochun didn't dare to make any further tests such as that. Thus, the fan sped off into the distance, and another long chase began through the void.
Bai Xiaochun scowled, not wanting to just spend his time fleeing, but having no other choice. Obviously, he couldn't fight the old ghost woman. That much he had learned during the previous chase; nothing he launched back at her did any good.
This chase lasted for another three years…. At that point, the paper woman finally started to slow down, and the distance between them grew. By this time, Bai Xiaochun had grown completely used to her howling and roaring.
The most depressing thing about the entire situation was that Bai Xiaochun had to focus all of his energy on powering and directing the fan, making it impossible to work on his flame conjuring. The upside was that because he constantly drew upon the power of his cultivation base, his cultivation actually advanced steadily the entire time.
Bai Xiaochun eventually realized that the old ghost woman seemed completely obsessed with catching him, and would likely find him again even if he shook her. And thus, he sent the fan in a very different direction, hoping to buy some time. Eventually, he was once again able to immerse himself in flame conjuring.
And thus, years passed. It didn't really matter how fast he fled, or where he lost the old ghost woman.
At the most, she would find him again in three years. He was used to the situation, and yet, had to go all out in his attempts to flee whenever she caught up. Each time, she seemed to move faster than the previous time, leaving Bai Xiaochun scowling on the verge of tears, and at the same time, madly focused on cultivation whenever he could.
Thanks to the pressure, his cultivation base advanced constantly, pushing him very close to the great circle of the Celestial Realm.
Whenever the old ghost woman wasn't around, he would work on flame conjuring. As time flew by, he eventually reached the point where he could conjure twenty-six-colored flame.
With every flame that he put into the mark on the back of his hand, Bai Hao's aura grew stronger, and the fluctuations clearer.
Unfortunately, he got stuck working on the formula for twenty-seven-colored flame. Unlike the previous formulas, things did not fall into place, and he eventually reached a bottleneck in which he had absolutely no idea how to proceed.
All he could do was spend more time on auguries and analyses. Eventually, ten years had gone by. Bai Xiaochun stood there on the edge of the fan, hair disheveled as he looked out into the void. Next to him, Bai Xiaochi assisted him in powering the fan to go as quickly as possible.
The howling old paper woman was chasing them, her lamp sending out glowing light that turned anything it touched into paper!
"How come this old ghost woman is always popping up? We never saw her before!" It was a real headache. She always appeared randomly, putting Bai Xiaochun in the passive position. Eventually, she began to slow down, and the distance between them grew.
Frowning, he breathed a sigh of relief. Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi seemed just as angry as ever.
"This is all your fault! Why'd you have to go and provoking something so terrifying!? You always have the option of escaping, but I don't!" Bai Xiaochi was clearly nervous about the paper woman constantly chasing after them.
Bai Xiaochun sighed, but wasn't in the mood to comfort Bai Xiaochi. Even as he pondered how to possibly deal with the old ghost woman, Bai Xiaochi suddenly said, "Eee?!"
Startled, Bai Xiaochun sent his divine sense out to determine where the old ghost woman had appeared from. But then, his expression flickered.
Instead of the woman, he saw something even more strange; the void around them seemed to be sinking!
Technically speaking, the void had no directions such as up, down, left, or right. But right now, the area around them clearly seemed to be sinking down, forming something that looked like a huge funnel, or a spinning vortex!
Perhaps it could have been attributed to some strange natural phenomenon. However, that was when Bai Xiaochun noticed that, at the bottom of the sunken area was another world…. His divine sense revealed to him a world filled with countless hourglasses!
There were large ones and small ones, filling the entire world, none of them damaged. All of them were operational, and had sand flowing through them. It was a truly bizarre and shocking sight.
"What… what is this place?"
Even as the words left his mouth, Bai Xiaochi's eyes went wide, and he chokingly exclaimed, "The Essence of time! Heavens! That place has the Essence of time in it!!"

Chapter 1231: World Of Hourglasses
Bai Xiaochun's eyes lit up. Although he hadn't detected the Essence aura, his cultivation base had surged, and his Time Immemorial Codex had automatically become active.
Clearly, this world was to him like sweet dew to a parched traveler, and it instantly caused his heart to begin pounding.
However, after what had developed with the old ghost woman, he was completely on guard against any type of danger, and would definitely not act rashly. The first thing he did was send out his divine sense to simply observe the hourglasses that made up the world!
As he did, his expression flickered, and eventually, a look of dumbstruck awe filled his face.
"Hey, little automaton, look at that world… can you see… that one particularly strange area?!?!"
By this point, Bai Xiaochi had mostly recovered from his earlier shock. After looking down at the world, he found the area Bai Xiaochun had referred to, and yet, couldn't see it any clearer than Bai Xiaochun could. However, there were fluctuations coming from it that seemed incredibly powerful!!
Bai Xiaochun also sensed the fluctuations, and they caused his entire body to thrum.
"Sovereign aura! There's a sovereign aura there!" Bai Xiaochun and Bai Xiaochi shared a shaken glance. At the same time, Bai Xiaochun was already coming up with some speculations about what was happening!
"I wonder… if this sunken area within the void is actually an enormous hourglass…. And that world is the middle of the hourglass. And maybe that strange area is actually the other half of the hourglass!
"If I'm right, then this hourglass must be the precious treasure of a sovereign! And it's currently ownerless!" The mere thought caused his eyes to shine brightly, and his heart to race. With that, he flew off of the fan with the intention of circling the area a few times, trying to see if he could take the precious treasure that was this hourglass with him.
Bai Xiaochi's eyes immediately went wide.
"Don't cause any more trouble, Bai Xiaochun! This is probably a magical item similar to me! And it's not damaged or incomplete. If you piss it off, we're both finished!!"
Clearing his throat, Bai Xiaochun replied with the usual, "Don't worry, I have plenty of experience with this kind of thing!"
Bai Xiaochi's mind instantly began to spin as he realized that Bai Xiaochun had said this exact same thing before. Then he realized what Bai Xiaochun meant by having experience in this specific situation, and his eyes began to burn with anger.
However, after a moment, he breathed a sigh of relief as he realized that Bai Xiaochun would really have no way of successfully taking the hourglass.
As for Bai Xiaochun, he was feeling very distressed about the situation. After all, the hourglass was different from the damaged fan. The only reason he had successfully acquired the fan was because it was damaged, whereas this hourglass wasn't harmed in any way.
Obviously, it was a precious treasure that would surely have its own spirit automaton. And since it wasn't a legacy item, it couldn't be taken by force except by someone with the power of a sovereign.
Not willing to give up so easily, he put some thought into the matter and then produced his turtle-wok. However, not even performing a spirit enhancement on it seemed to do anything.
Eventually, he realized what the problem was. It wasn't that spirit enhancements didn't work on the hourglass. Rather, it was simply too powerful. Performing a onefold spirit enhancement on it wouldn't do anything, and if he tried to perform more enhancements, it could provoke the wrath of the hourglass's spirit automaton.
When Bai Xiaochi realized what he was doing, he shouted, "Stop it! Stop it!! Listen to me, Bai Xiaochun. That precious treasure's spirit automaton is asleep. If you perform spirit enhancements and wake it up, we're both doomed!"
Bai Xiaochun hesitated for a moment as he analyzed the situation. Eventually, he came to the conclusion that trying to force spirit enhancements onto the hourglass could very likely incite a deadly storm of consequences. After some more hesitation, he sighed and abandoned the idea. However, he still wasn't ready to give up.
Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochi was on the verge of weeping. Over the years, living with Bai Xiaochun had been too nerve-wracking…. No, too dangerous! Back when Bai Xiaochi had been alone on the fan, he had never encountered any problems. But with Bai Xiaochun, he faced one danger after another.
The old paper woman was bad enough. If they ended up having a precious treasure filled with the Essence of time trying to chase them down and kill them, well, Bai Xiaochi didn't see how he could take it.
"I can't handle this. Sometimes this bastard is a coward, and sometimes he's a psycho! I have to think of a way to distract him, otherwise he's going to end up pissing off that precious treasure…." His eyes turned up in thought for a long moment, and then lit up.
"Milord, look, that world of hourglasses is definitely the best place to gain enlightenment of the Essence of time! It would be really beneficial for you to do that!
"Besides, I noticed before that the technique you cultivate has something to do with the Essence of time. This place is basically a holy land for you!
"Aren't you stuck in a bottleneck with your flame conjuring? If you gain some enlightenment of the Essence here, it will probably help you break through that bottleneck. Since the spirit automaton is asleep, it's the perfect time. After all, once it awakens, you won't have the same chance again!
"Don't worry, milord. I'll stand as Dharma protector for you. I won't let anything dangerous happen while you're seeking enlightenment!" Worried that Bai Xiaochun wouldn't trust him, he unleashed his divine sense in dramatic and potentially harmful fashion, causing the fan's detection and defense abilities to surge into action.
Bai Xiaochi's suggestion actually made sense to Bai Xiaochun. That was especially so considering that his Time Immemorial Codex seemed to be leaping with anticipation. And he was in a bottleneck with his twenty-seven-colored flame. After taking another look at the hourglass, he decided that gaining some enlightenment would probably make it easier to acquire it for his own. And even if he didn't, he would at least come out with some level of benefit.
Having reached this point in his train of thought, and seeing that Bai Xiaochi was really going all out, he sighed and gave the spirit automaton a nod of approval. After sending out his own divine sense one more time to make sure that nothing was amiss, he flew toward the hourglass world.
At this point, Bai Xiaochi finally breathed a sigh of relief. At the same time, he mused that being with Bai Xiaochun in situations like this was potentially life-threatening.
Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun was getting closer and closer to the hourglass world. Nothing was opposing his approach though, so soon, he was descending into the world itself.
As he did, his expression flickered as he realized that the flow of time was completely different. In fact, it seemed that time flowed differed even within different areas of the world.
In some places, it slowed nearly to a standstill. In other places, it was to his shock that he realized that it moved ten times faster, even a hundred or a thousand….
As he moved through this shocking world, he saw the endless hourglasses of varying sizes. Some were tens of thousands of meters tall, others were the size of a hand.
Soon, he came to realize that the chaotic nature of time within this world was a function of the hourglasses themselves. Each hourglass had a different flow of time.
"Different worlds, different natural laws…. In that old ghost woman's world, magical techniques and divine abilities don't work, and one's flesh and blood become paper. In here, the laws are different!" He had seen and experienced a lot on his journey through the void, giving him a much different perspective on life.
As of now, he knew that each of these hourglasses contained the natural laws of this world, and could influence their environment. With each moment that passed, he felt more and more shocked.
"But what could have created these differences in time?"

Chapter 1232: Gravitational Enlightenment
Bai Xiaochun stood there, looking around thoughtfully at the endless hourglasses. Eventually, he remembered what Bai Xiaochi had said about gaining enlightenment of the Essence of time.
"My Time Immemorial Codex definitely has something to do with the Essence of time," he murmured.
Early on, Bai Xiaochun had heard of Essence, but didn't understand it much. After encountering the damaged fan, and Bai Xiaochi, his understanding grew. Eventually, he became the owner of the fan, and practiced cultivation in front of the Daoist Tower of Life and Death in the fan face. At that point, his understanding gradually became more complete.
However, he still couldn't put that understanding into words.
Right now, he felt like he was standing inside of a true treasure, surrounded by Essence. However, his comprehension was still incomplete, and thus he couldn't grasp its meaning. It was as if he were missing some very important key.
After a moment of silence, he looked up, his eyes flashing with determination and focus.
"If I can't seek understanding directly, then I'll just soak it in!" Taking a deep breath, he walked up to one particular hourglass that was about the same height as himself. Not daring to get too close, he examined it with divine sense, and found that the flow of time within it was three times faster than normal. Sitting down cross-legged, he began to meditate.
Although this place didn't seem inherently dangerous, Bai Xiaochun knew that it was actually filled with potential crises, in the form of the hourglasses themselves!
Some of the most powerful Daoist magics in existence had to do with the flow of time. If he wasn't careful, he might stumble into an hourglass in which time flowed millions or even of billions of times faster than outside of this world. In that case, a huge amount of time could pass for him, with only a small bit of time passing outside.
A situation like that might not be a big deal. But what about the opposite situation? What if he entered an hourglass for only a breath of time, only to have a year pass on the outside?
For one thing, if he was away from the Eternal Immortal Domains for too long, it could be very dangerous for the Arch-Emperor Dynasty. For another, he had no idea exactly how such an experience would affect his longevity. Was his longevity tied to the existence of the Eternal Immortal Domains? Or would it pass based on his local experience?
For non-living things, it would probably be easier to judge. But Bai Xiaochun was a celestial, and his existence was profoundly tied to the Eternal Immortal Domains. He had no way of knowing whether leaving his own world for a long period of time would affect his Daoseed in some way, or perhaps damage it.
Therefore, he had to be very careful in the choices he made here.
Closing his eyes, he focused on the passage of time. At first it seemed difficult to wrap his mind around how exactly it differed from the flow of time outside. But as time passed, he gradually began to notice what appeared to be flickering vestiges of… something. Unfortunately, he wasn't sure exactly what those vestiges were.
Even worse, there were too few of them. Several days later, he opened his eyes. Although he felt much closer to grasping the key to this world, he was still far from success.
"Were those… vestiges of time?" he thought hesitantly, pondering the seemingly illusory vestiges. For some reason, whenever he looked at them, he felt a sensation of bending or distorting.
By this point, his curiosity was piqued, and he had already forgotten that his main goal in coming into this world was to figure out a way to take ownership of the precious treasure that housed it. Mind filled with thoughts of the vestiges he had seen, he found another hourglass that had a tenfold difference in time, and sat down to meditate.
A few days later, he opened his eyes, and looked a bit confused. There were more vestiges here, and yet, he still couldn't see them clearly. Frustrated, he gritted his teeth.
"I refuse to believe I can't succeed! Those vestiges are definitely the Essence of time!" This time, he found an hourglass in which time flowed a hundred times faster than normal. Sitting down, he looked at it closely, and then once again sought enlightenment.
This session of enlightenment was one of the most life-changing he had ever experienced. He trembled, and even struggled for breath, as he came to the realization that what he believed to be vestiges of time were far more numerous in this hourglass.
Furthermore, he realized that the space surrounding the vestiges seemed to have distorted and collapsed in some way. It was as if the vestiges themselves were evidence of some form of a unique, strange power!
From what he could tell, that power was what had caused the bending and distorting that he had sensed earlier!
It wasn't the power of time, it was some other type of power that he was actually very familiar with. As he probed further, and the sensation of familiarity grew, his eyes shot open; he almost couldn't believe what he was feeling!
"Gravity?" he blurted in shock. "How… how is this even possible!?!?"
Although there were no magical techniques he knew of in the cultivation world that were specifically related to gravity, there were many magical items that utilized such power!
Bai Xiaochun had come into contact with gravity many years ago; he had once offered a pill formula to the north bank of the Spirit Stream Sect in trade, gaining a set of magnetic spirit wings and a protomagnetic pearl. The old woman who was the peak lord of Irispetal Peak had told him that if he ever got the chance, he could use those two items to understand protomagnetic power, and thus learn the Spirit Stream Sect's Arcane Gravitational Repulsion!
It was for that very reason that Bai Xiaochun had spent so much time following that line of research, and had eventually developed a sphere of gravitational repulsion that could tear the clothes of people around him to shreds!
Furthermore, the toxic gas that eventually became his Fantasy Pill was initially controlled by his understanding of the powers of gravity and repulsion!
Unfortunately, his research never went very far, and he eventually gave up. So how could he ever have imagined that, so many years later, and so far away from the Eternal Immortal Domains, out in the middle of the void, he would find the precious treasure of a sovereign, in which the Essence of time existed, as well as the mysterious power of gravity!?
Although there were differences between time and gravity, those differences were small!
After taking a few breaths to get himself under control, he once again closed his eyes to seek enlightenment. Eventually, his eyes opened, and he looked even more shaken than before.
"It really is gravity! I wasn't wrong!!" He was completely shaken to find that what he had assumed was time, was actually gravity. Never before had he even thought to correlate time with gravity, but now, the two of them seemed to be superimposing right in front of him!
"What exactly is going on here…?" he thought, confused, Eventually, he rose to his feet, determined to understand the connection between time and gravity.
Mere hundredfold flows of time weren't enough. Therefore, it was with bloodshot eyes that he found an hourglass in which time flowed five hundred times the normal speed. After that was a thousandfold flow of time.
And thus, he continued to move up in his search for answers. From one-thousandfold he moved to three-thousandfold. Five-thousandfold. Eight-thousandfold….
It was at that point that he rose to his feet, his eyes shining brightly.
"Gravity can change the flow of time!!" Although he looked excited, the determination in his eyes was clear. Turning around, he found some hourglasses with tenfold flows of time, where he confirmed some of his research. Soon, he had a complete understanding of the relationship between gravity and time!
"The stronger gravity is, the faster time flows!" It was an exciting realization. By now, he had forgotten about trying to find the 'key' to this place, and was back in the same state he often reached when researching medicinal pills. Every question he answered led to new questions.
"But where does gravity come from?" Bai Xiaochun had always been plagued by that question, but now, in this strange world, he was absolutely determined to find an answer. Once again, he began to work with the hourglasses.
As he searched for clues, days passed, until he forgot how many. He was tired, and his eyes were weary, but he continued to search for the source of gravity.
Eventually, he looked over at one of the 300-meter-tall hourglasses, which was where time moved at ten thousand times the normal speed.
Back when he had first arrived in this world, he wouldn't have dared to research such an hourglass. But now, in his obsessed state, he didn't hesitate for a moment!
Sitting down cross-legged, he shivered as he realized that he could just barely hear something like a voice speaking to him!

Chapter 1233: Sovereign Of Antiquity
It started out faint, and was difficult to hear clearly, as though it had drifted to this point through countless years of time. It sounded like a man speaking, except that it was impossible to hear the exact words, no matter how Bai Xiaochun focused.
And yet, that mere voice caused his Time Immemorial Codex to leap with unprecedented vigor. Even the flow of time around him seemed to change.
Most noteworthy, and most shocking, was that Bai Xiaochun could sense gravity changing because of the voice.
Although he couldn't make the voice out clearly, he was convinced… that it contained the answer he had been seeking!
As his eyes opened, they shone with determination and decisiveness. Blurring into motion, he headed toward a 600-meter-tall hourglass!
The flow of time here was twenty-thousand times normal speed!!
It was even easier to see the gravitational fluctuations here, and at the same time, the voice grew clearer, although he still couldn't make out the exact details. Before long, he moved on to a 900-meter-tall hourglass. Then a 1,200-meter-tall one, and after that, a 1,500-meter-tall one….
Eventually, he was at a 2,400-meter-tall hourglass, at which point the voice grew even clearer. Bai Xiaochun was fully in a state of madness, and was soon at a 3,000-meter-tall hourglass, where the flow of time… was 100,000 times faster than normal!
All the while, the voice grew clearer, and yet, he still could not make out the details of what was being said. However, by the time he encountered the one-hundred-thousandfold flow of time, he realized that the gravity in the area wasn't rigidly set. In fact, it seemed to respond to his presence, a discovery that prompted him to continue on this exact same line of pursuit!
6,000-meter-tall hourglass. 9,000 meters. 12,000 meters….
Bai Xiaochun seemed possessed as he crazily selected larger and larger hourglasses. Eventually, he reached a 30,000-meter-tall hourglass, where the flow of time was 1,000,000 times normal. And yet, he was still not able to make out what the voice was saying.
Although it continued to grow clearer, there was apparently a barrier in place, ensuring that no matter how loudly the speaker spoke, his words could not be heard clearly.
Not unless… the barrier were broken! Or perhaps when an hourglass was reached that had the potential to break it!
With that vague voice in his ears, Bai Xiaochun continued to shocking levels of research. 90,000 meters. 180,000 meters. Eventually, he was in front of an hourglass that was 240,000 meters tall!
In this hourglass, the flow of time reached the shocking level of 8,000,000 times faster than normal. As such, the three months that he spent seeking enlightenment there counted for less than a breath of time.
Unfortunately, it was already impossible for him to determine if time was truly flowing in accord with his local perspective, or from the outside perspective. As such, the danger he faced continued to mount.
If he picked an hourglass where the time differential was reversed, then one breath of time for him would count for three months in the outside world!
Bai Xiaochun was very nearly going insane in his attempt to understand the powers of gravity. As such, once he began to seek enlightenment with the hourglasses taller than 30,000 meters, he was careful to only spend a short time seeking enlightenment with each one. And if the voice didn't grow clearer, he would leave immediately.
It was dangerous, but he was making incredible progress. The voice was still unclear, but his understanding of gravity was now completely different from before!
"Gravity is created when the space in the area bends. And the space bends, not because of pre-set conditions, but rather… because of my presence!!
"As I near the hourglasses, their time differential changes. If I don't get close to them, the differential remains stationary!!
"By bending space, and by shaping gravity, the speed of time is changed!!
"Of course, the ultimate cause is not me, but the fundamental nature of the hourglasses. They have different structures, and contain different dimensions, and even unique starry skies. Thus, the gravity and flow of time within them is different!" His thoughts flickered at lightning speed as he came up with various answers due to his relentless searching. At the moment, he was standing on top of a 240,000-meter-tall hourglass, looking at the world around him. From this vantage point, he could see that there was only one hourglass larger than the one he stood on.
Far off in the distance, in the very middle of the world, was… an hourglass that was hundreds of thousands of meters tall!!
Bai Xiaochun had no way to even tell how quickly time flowed in that hourglass. However, he did know that there was no better place in this world to attempt to hear the words of the voice!
Instead of switching amongst random hourglasses, the best decision, albeit the most dangerous, was with that hourglass.
After some thought, he shot into motion, eyes bloodshot as he headed toward that gargantuan hourglass. Upon arriving, he was completely and utterly shaken by the flow of time there.
It was so indescribably powerful that without his powerful cultivation base and shocking fleshly body, plus the powers of regeneration from his Undying Codex, he would likely have been crushed to death immediately.
Enduring the discomfort, he howled and shot to the top of the hourglass. Taking a shaky breath, he dropped down cross-legged, veins bulging out on his face and neck as he closed his eyes and sent out his divine sense to seek enlightenment!
Almost immediately, the whispering voice appeared, and this time, it was different from before. It was not muffled, but crisp and clear, as though someone were sitting right next to him, speaking!
He immediately focused on the voice, whereupon a tremor ran through him, and his mind felt battered as if by enormous waves of shock!!
The speaker was indeed a man, his voice warm and sincere, as though he were instructing his apprentices about the Dao.
"Mortal Renegade. Worldly Daoist. The two of you listen well…. What is Essence? To discuss Essences, you must first understand natural laws. Natural laws form the invisible framework of the cosmos in which we exist. Magical techniques and divine abilities are essentially ways of manipulating or drawing upon that framework.
"As for what constitutes that framework, well, that is where Essences come into the picture. They are shapeless, invisible, and intangible. However, it is only their mysterious construction that allows for all of the countless magical techniques and divine abilities to exist….
"Essences are essentially the foundation of everything!
"This leads to another question. What is the Essence of time…?
"Well, that's simple. First of all, understand that time and gravity are connected. From an outside perspective, the stronger the gravity, the slower time will flow. However, when it comes to the Essence of time, its true manifestation comes, not through gravity, but rather… relativity!
"Relativity forms the true core of the Essence of time. If you understand relativity, then you can gain enlightenment of… the Essence of time!
"Remember, everything… comes down to relativity!
"Mortal Renegade. Worldly Daoist. Do you understand?"
The voice crashed within Bai Xiaochun's mind like great waves of shock. He wasn't sure who the Mortal Renegade and the Worldly Daoist were. However, merely listening to the short speech filled him with unprecedented levels of understanding!
It was as if a light went off in his head, as if all of the clues he had gathered up to this point suddenly clicked together thanks to this voice!
"Relativity. That's right! It's about relativity…. Without the outside world to compare to, how could you even know about differences in the flow of time!?!?" Bai Xiaochun threw his head back and laughed uproariously. Although there were still some areas that he wasn't clear on, he was now absolutely certain of why he was able to hear the voice which had just spoken to him!
That voice belonged to an almighty entity from countless years in the past, who had been speaking to his apprentices about Essences. The reason his voice was able to transmit through all the years was because his Dao was none other than the Essence of time. And he had already become a part of the natural laws of the cosmos around him!
Therefore, the increased flow of time in this place allowed his voice to echo here for all eternity!

Chapter 1234: Fourth Divine Ability
Essences were innately abstruse and difficult to comprehend. In all of the void that had once been a starry sky, only a few people had ever mastered such things. After all, anyone who could do so would be considered a Daoist master who had comprehended all things, and reached the Sovereign Realm!!
Sovereigns were rare, as difficult to find as a phoenix feather or a qilin horn. Anyone from any group of people who became a sovereign would be the pride and glory of that group. And if any group could produce two sovereigns, none could possibly stand in their way!
Of course, Bai Xiaochun was far, far from that level. He wasn't even in the Archaean Realm yet. And yet, that posed no obstacle to him when it came to gaining enlightenment of Essences.
Essences were profound and mysterious, much less to mention the fact that matters of time were paramount among such great Daos. In fact, only one sovereign within this starry sky had ever succeeded with the Essence of time.
And he was the owner of this precious treasure of hourglasses!
Bai Xiaochun gasped, his eyes shining with the light of understanding. Now that he had found the answer he had been looking for, he began to sink into a state of emptiness that encompassed both his thoughts and his physical form.
He had already seen the evidence pointing to the fact that the bending of the space around him was a result of his presence, and its effect on gravity, which also caused variations in the flow of time.
However, as he seemed to become empty, his body grew weightless, almost transparent, as though it didn't exist.
He wasn't truly being wiped out of existence. However, relative to his surroundings, and to the world around him, he was no more. And although he was still technically seated cross-legged on the huge hourglass, the force of gravity around him faded away, and the mad flow of time grew calm. It returned to the state it had been in before he had arrived, a state of relative calm.
Within that state, Bai Xiaochun's consciousness remained, and his divine soul seemed to fly out of him and look down at the lands below. He saw countless hourglasses, some large, some small. He saw sand dropping down endlessly. And every time his gaze focused on an hourglass, its flow of time would change.
It was an endless cycle. As his gaze shifted from one hourglass to another, he lost track of how much time was passing, and lost track of his own existence.
As time flowed in its own way inside the world of hourglasses, Bai Xiaochi was outside. After Bai Xiaochun entered the place, he sighed in relief. Almost immediately, the different flows of time within the world caused his vision to blur, making it impossible to see what was happening. However, he could sense that Bai Xiaochun was unhurt.
"I wonder how long he'll be in there. Hopefully not long. If that spirit automaton wakes up, it could be a big problem." Sighing, he decided to just down cross-legged to wait. After all, if Bai Xiaochun took too long, he could just go in and remind him not to delay too long.
Within the world of hourglasses, Bai Xiaochun's enlightenment continued. As he observed the countless hourglasses, and the various flows of time, they came to encompass everything about him.
He had no thoughts. He simply sat there, his expression blank as he stared at the hourglasses and committed every aspect of them to memory. Eventually, one of the countless hourglasses that he had committed to memory vanished.
Soon after that, another disappeared, and then another. One after another, they disappeared, and those that remained behind sank deeper into Bai Xiaochun's mind.
No one, not even Bai Xiaochun, could sense what was happening. The hourglasses vanished one after another, until one day… there was only one left!!
It wasn't large, only about the height of an average person. However, it seemed to be a part of Bai Xiaochun, a part of his soul, a part of his fleshly body, a part of his Daoseed… it had completely fused with every aspect of him!
It could not be wiped away or destroyed. In fact, in some ways, this hourglass was like a second Daoseed!!
When that solitary hourglass came to be the only one left behind, Bai Xiaochun shivered, his closed eyes flickered, and he began to breathe rapidly. At the same time, magical symbols began to appear on the surface of the hourglass in his mind. Although he didn't recognize any of them, they all originated within his own imagination.
They contained his understanding of time, as well as his incomplete comprehension of Essences. They covered the hourglass in the form of magical symbols, and then began to shine with bright light. Bai Xiaochun shivered even more, and began to breathe more rapidly, until at one point, the shining of the magical symbols prompted him to unconsciously reach out and wave his right hand.
That simple gesture caused the air around him to collapse, and time itself to bend toward him. Gravity sprang into being, instantly changing the flow of time in his area!!
Outside, Bai Xiaochi sensed what was happening, and his eyes nearly popped out of his skull.
"Essence Daoist magic!?!?"
And that was exactly what it was, a Daoist magic of Essence. Although it was only in an embryonic form, only a small fraction of what it could be, it still caused time in the area around Bai Xiaochun to change. He shivered more, and his closed eyes began to flicker even more rapidly, as though he might awaken at any moment.
Suddenly, he lifted his head, and regained lucidity, as if he were emerging from a dream. The transformations to the air and the area around him faded away, but everything he had experienced within that 'dream' remained behind.
"Did I just…?" His eyes flickered with incredulity as he looked down at his hand. After a moment, he reached out again with his hand, touched his inner hourglass with divine sense, and then waved his hand.
The same thing happened as had happened moments ago, causing Bai Xiaochun's heart to surge with excitement. Shooting to his feet, he closed his eyes to examine the shocking power of this new divine ability.
"I can change the flow of time in a small area…. If I had to fight the Vile-Emperor again, I wouldn't need to rely only on Archaean Luminescence. I could slow time around him, but keep it the same around me. From the Vile-Emperor's perspective… it would make me seem unimaginably fast!!"
Excited, he did a few more tests to make sure he was correct in his assessment. Afterward, he decided to name this fourth immensely powerful divine ability that he had just created….
"Time is connected to gravity," he murmured, eyes glittering. "Therefore, I'll call this divine ability… Gravitational Extermination!" Although he had never liked fighting and killing, by now he realized that the only way to keep the Arch-Emperor Dynasty safe… was to be stronger than everyone else. He needed people to respect him! That was the only way to truly put an end to the fighting and killing.
"I have the magical symbols of the Sutra of the Former. I have the Gates of Life and Death of the Sutra of the Present. I have the pāramitā lily of my Sutra of the Future. And now I have my fourth great divine ability, Gravitational Extermination…. Even without Archaean Luminescence, I can still pose a big threat to an archaean!" Brimming with self-confidence, he checked his cultivation base, and to his delight found that the good fortune he had experienced had pushed him into the great circle of the Celestial Realm.
He didn't leave the world of the hourglasses immediately. Using his newfound control over time, he successfully broke through the bottleneck of the twenty-seven-colored flame. After finishing the formula, he rose to his feet and looked around at all of the hourglasses with a bit of sorrow and longing. Then, he clasped hands and bowed deeply!
He was offering thanks to the world around him, and to that mysterious sovereign whose Dao he had benefited from. Because of all the good fortune he had received, he completely abandoned any thoughts of taking this precious treasure with him. He knew that until he became a sovereign… he didn't qualify to own it!

Chapter 1235: Immortal Imperatrix
After straightening up from his bow, he flew up into the sky. When he had first arrived in this place, the chaotic flows of time had been quite unsettling. But now that he had taken his first steps toward controlling the Essence of time, they didn't bother him at all.
It didn't matter how the time flows shifted and changed, they couldn't do anything to affect the hourglass in his mind. That hourglass was rooted to his consciousness, and nothing on the outside could affect it any more than wind could affect a boulder.
Flying up, he eventually found himself back out in the void, and then, on his treasured fan!
In that exact moment, Bai Xiaochi settled down cross-legged, and was just about to close his eyes to meditate. Startled, he jumped back up and shouted, "What's wrong?!?!"
Sending his divine sense out, he checked the area, as well as the precious treasure that was the hourglass. Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun looked back at him in shock.
Then his eyes settled into a glare. Considering how long he had been gone, he had expected Bai Xiaochi to at least miss him a little bit. Suddenly, he got an odd feeling.
"What are you all flustered for…?" he asked. "How long was I in the hourglass world?"
"How long?" Bai Xiaochi looked back at him, a bit confused. "Huh? You don't know? You just went in! It's only been… maybe four or five breaths of time. I watched you go in, and before I could even sit down, you jumped back out." At this point, Bai Xiaochi seemed to realize something. Eyes widening, he pointed at Bai Xiaochun and said, "Wait… don't tell me that time passed differently for you?"
Bai Xiaochun was immediately shaken. He had assumed that due to his initial steps toward mastering the Essence of time, something like this couldn't have happened.
"There's no way! Based on what I could tell, I must have spent decades in there. Maybe even a century! But out here… only a few breaths of time passed?!?!" It took a bit of back and forth, but Bai Xiaochun soon confirmed that it was exactly as Bai Xiaochi had said. Gasping, he looked back at the world of hourglasses.
Having gotten to the bottom of the situation, Bai Xiaochi was equally shaken, and also looked over at the hourglass world.
At this point, Bai Xiaochun realized that his suppositions regarding the outside world had been wrong. Relative to the outside world, the time he had spent in the hourglass world counted for almost nothing.
That hourglass world… didn't exist on the same plane as the void in which he now stood. It was almost transcendent, and in fact, there was only one word Bai Xiaochun could think of to describe it.
"Eternal!" he murmured, his eyes shining with hope.
"The Essence of time… is so mysterious!!" Once again, he clasped hands and bowed deeply to the hourglass world. After a long moment, he turned, taking control of the fan and sending it flying off into the distance.
Bai Xiaochi was struck by a similar sense of wonderment. However, he was eager to be on his way, and provided as much help as he could to push the treasured fan at top speed through the void.
Even after some time passed, Bai Xiaochun was not able to calm down. As for Bai Xiaochi, he wasn't sure what to say about the shocking things that he had been told. They traveled along in peace and quiet for several months, until at one point, Bai Xiaochun opened his eyes from meditation.
Without any hesitation, he extended his right hand and waved his finger in a certain direction out in the void!
Before Bai Xiaochi could even react, the area Bai Xiaochun had pointed at rippled and distorted, sinking down to become a small-scale version of the precious treasure that was the hourglass world!
Bai Xiaochi couldn't actually see it, but he could sense the gravitational force. As the sunken area expanded, that gravitational force grew greater and greater!
As that happened, the flow of time there began to slow down. Meanwhile, an enraged howl could be heard, coming from that very area in which gravity had been affected. Strangely, the sound seemed distorted, even drawn out.
Moments later, the old paper woman appeared, materializing right into that distorted area, her eyes already flickering with shock.
Bai Xiaochi was similarly taken aback, and for the first time, looked over at Bai Xiaochun with an expression of reverence. Not only had Bai Xiaochun detected the woman's approach ahead of time, but he had also created an area similar to the precious treasure that was the hourglass. Although it was only generally similar, Bai Xiaochi could easily see that this… was a Daoist magic of Essence!
In other words, it was… a sovereign-level Daoist magic!!
"What are you staring at, Bai Xiaochi? Hurry up and use the sovereign's arm!" Constantly being chased down by this old ghost woman had long since caused the flames of anger to build up inside of Bai Xiaochun. And although he didn't want to go out and fight her on his own, it seemed like a great opportunity to slow her down and use the fan's power to unleash some misery on her.
With that, he sent out some divine sense, causing numerous beams of Archaean Luminescence to shoot out toward the old woman. He even summoned an archaean slave, who stepped out into the void to fight.
The archaean slave couldn't stay out in the void for long, but now that Bai Xiaochun's cultivation base had improved, he could last for the time it takes an incense stick to burn. Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochi quickly sent the sovereign's arm out toward the old woman!
This was Bai Xiaochun's first time making a strong counter-assault on the old paper woman. The woman howled in response, waving her lamp, which caused a sea of black flames to roil out.
The fact that the flames didn't seem destabilized by Bai Xiaochun's zone of time influence wasn't because his divine ability was weak, but rather, because the cultivation base of this old ghost woman… was too high!!
Even still, the area affected by his Gravitational Extermination lasted for several breaths of time, which was more than enough for several shots of Archaean Luminescence to hit the old woman. Although it seemed as if she existed in a different dimension, and the beams passed through her, because of the zone of time influence, she was still injured.
Even as her shriek echoed out, the archaean slave and the sovereign's arm arrived. As they did, black flames continued to burn away at the Gravitational Extermination's zone of time influence, and the trapped old woman performed an incantation gesture. That in turn caused the black sea of flames to take the shape of a black lamp, which then shot toward the sovereign arm.
When the two collided, a massive boom echoed out, shaking the entire area. The archaean slave coughed up a mouthful of blood, and the sovereign's arm was sent spinning back to the fan, undamaged, but currently incapable of any further action. The archaean slave also returned to the fan.
However, the old ghost woman was not in good shape either. Her hair was disheveled, and she looked so bedraggled that she was starting to fade out of existence. Eyes filled with madness, she howled, sending more black flames shooting out, creating another sea of flames. As it expanded, the frightened Bai Xiaochun and Bai Xiaochi turned the fan and started heading off at top speed.
The sea of flames continued to expand behind them, accompanied by the howls of the old ghost woman. Eventually, so much flame was roiling out that it made it possible to see a different woman.
She was beautiful, with luxurious clothing and phoenix-like eyes that contained boundless dignity. However, a black spike of flames was impaled into her forehead, which turned all of her grace and beauty into malevolent ferocity!
As soon as Bai Xiaochi saw the woman, he instinctively shrieked, "Immortal Imperatrix!!"

Chapter 1236: Burial Rain
There was no spare time to ask Bai Xiaochi about who the Immortal Imperatrix was. His scalp simply tingled at the shocking performance the old ghost woman had put on. Clearly, she had upped her game, releasing that shocking sea of black flames that she had never used before.
Strangely, the sea of flames didn't seem to contain even a scrap of heat, and yet, his divine sense had indicated that it could definitely burn anything that got in its path.
That in itself was enough to cause him to flee for his life. Thankfully, it seemed the old ghost woman wasn't very stable while in that state, and couldn't actually pursue him.
He fled for three months straight, not slowing down for even an instant. Whenever he thought back to what had happened, he scowled in frustration and disappointment.
During those three months, Bai Xiaochi didn't say much, but would occasionally look over his shoulder, his expression that of sorrow and frustration.
Eventually, Bai Xiaochun couldn't help but ask, "Xiaochi, who's this Immortal Imperatrix you were jabbering about?"
In a rare display of rage, Bai Xiaochi shouted, "You're not permitted to sully the Immortal Imperatrix by even mentioning her!!"
Surprised, Bai Xiaochun looked over to see Bai Xiaochi's bloodshot eyes shining with grief as he looked out into the void. After a long moment passed, he murmured, "The Immortal Imperatrix was milord's Daoist partner….
"I never saw her in person. But milord would often gaze upon a painting of her. I could see the pain in his eyes, and could see how much he missed her. Due to looking at that painting so many times myself, I eventually committed her features to memory….
"That young woman we saw earlier was the Immortal Imperatrix, and milord was the Immortal Imperator." As he spoke, his voice grew quieter and quieter. However, he continued to look over his shoulder, as though he could see that black sea of flames, and the woman with the spike in her forehead. The Immortal Imperatrix.
Bai Xiaochun knew that the 'lord' Bai Xiaochi referred to was not himself, but rather, that sovereign from the Immortal World. The fact that the old ghost woman had such an impressive origin finally gave him a clue as to why she was so powerful.
"The Daoist partner of a sovereign…. Someone killed her, and not even he could resurrect her? I wonder… who could have done such a thing?" He sat there thoughtfully, thinking about how, despite how long he had traveled within this void, and all of the ruins he had seen, he had never seen anyone alive.
Only the Eternal Immortal Domains were left within this void that had once been a starry sky. It was the only place with life, surrounded by nothing but death and rubble….
That led his train of thought to the fact that the original owner of the treasured fan, the sovereign from the Immortal World who had passed the fan on to him, had once spoken of… a great catastrophe to hit the starry sky!
That in turn caused him to think of the enormous sovereign looming over the Eternal Immortal Domains, that vicious, sleeping entity who was most definitely not dead!
"There is some enormous mystery at play here. A mystery… that I have already begun to unravel." Bai Xiaochun sat there cross-legged on the fan, looking out at the void, wondering if the Vile-Emperor and the Saint-Emperor knew the truth. Regardless of whether or not they did, based on the clues he had unearthed so far, he was starting to get a general idea of his own.
Some incomprehensibly powerful expert had massacred everything in the starry sky. All peoples, all lives, all other powerful experts. And he was none other than the enormous figure who existed above the Eternal Immortal Domains!
In the final battle over the Eternal Immortal Domains, the Arch-Lord, Saint-Lord, and Vile-Lord, all of them sovereigns, had sacrificed their own lives to seal that enemy, placing him in a state of existence which had lasted until now.
There were still many things Bai Xiaochun didn't understand. Who was that incomprehensibly powerful expert? Why did he want to massacre everything in existence? Why did he wait until the very end to make his move on the Eternal Immortal Domains? And how could such a powerful expert have been sealed by only three sovereigns?
One would think that an entity strong enough to exterminate everything in the starry sky, including all of the other sovereigns and their people, wouldn't be so weak as to be sealed by three sovereigns.
At the moment, there was no way to answer such questions. After looking out at the void for a long time, he went back to working on the formula for twenty-eight-colored flame. All the while, the weight of that desolate void seemed to weigh down on him.
Perhaps the battle with the old ghost woman had ended with her paper body being destroyed. Whatever the reason, she never came after them again, leading Bai Xiaochun to breathe a sigh of relief.
A sixty-year-cycle passed. During that time, he would occasionally go back to the Eternal Immortal Domains to spend time with Dabao, Xiaoxiao, Song Junwan, and Zhou Zimo. He also helped the Nine Serenities King and Spirit Advent King, as well as the eastern and northern demigods, to reach the Celestial Realm.
Now the Arch-Emperor Dynasty had eight celestials, making them even more powerful within the Eternal Immortal Domains. Although they didn't control the largest territory in terms of the immortal domains, they were powerful enough that their dynasty truly formed a tripartite balance of power.
The only downside was that, with the exception of Gongsun Wan'er, they were all in the early Celestial Realm. If they could get someone into the late Celestial Realm, then in terms of celestials, they would be the most powerful of the three nations!
Bai Xiaochun had long since allowed the treasured fan to follow its own course.
During the sixty-year-cycle which had passed, he saw one set of ruins after another, and never-ending rubble. There was no other life in this void, making him feel like a time traveler witnessing the aftermath of a cataclysmic destruction.
Slowly but surely, he gained a better understanding of the worlds that had populated the starry sky of the past. Bai Xiaochi also provided details in response to the questions Bai Xiaochun asked.
In addition to that, Bai Xiaochun finally conjured a twenty-eight-colored flame. His cultivation base was now at the peak of the great circle of the Celestial Realm, meaning that he was now extremely close to becoming an archaean. It was both a tiny gap, and also a massive one. Unless he got the right opportunity and good fortune, he would not be able to bridge it.
Even still, his battle prowess was even higher than before, and he had better control over his treasured fan. He could now summon two archaean slaves, both of whom could remain outside of the fan for two incense sticks' worth of time.
His Archaean Luminescence had also improved. He now had more than fifty shots, making it possible for him to defeat archaeans in battle without himself actually being one!
Of course, Bai Xiaochun was not simply happy with how things were. Unless he was an archaean, he couldn't resurrect his subordinates if they died, which meant that his celestials were like trees with nothing to sink their roots into. If a storm came along, they could be wiped out overnight.
Archaean battle prowess was the backbone of an imperial dynasty, and the divine ability of resurrection was the only way to keep it alive long-term!
Unfortunately, no matter what he tried, he couldn't come up with any way to bridge that final gap. Furthermore, multi-colored flame had a lot to do with his cultivation base. By now, he realized that it was only with an Archaean Realm cultivation base that he could finish the formula for twenty-nine-colored flame.
Eventually, he gave up all his tests and plans, and settled his heart. Emptying himself out, he looked at the void, until one day, his eyes widened, and he rose to his feet. Bai Xiaochi appeared next to him, and when he looked out, he murmured, "We meet again. This is the ninth time I've seen them…."
Far off in the void were countless glittering lights, which were countless crystalline lamps, eternally illuminating… the coffins upon which they rested!
There seemed to be too many coffins to count, perhaps millions. As they drifted through the void, they almost looked like rain….
As the treasured fan slowed to a halt, Bai Xiaochun stood at its edge, looking out at the majestic scene. As the countless coffins passed by, he could see that inside them were the preserved corpses of both men and women….
Unfortunately, they had existed for so long that many of them had begun to rot away, and seemed to be on the verge of disappearing altogether…. It was a burial rain that continued for a long time. When the last coffin passed by, Bai Xiaochun stood there quietly, aware that this was one of the many peoples that had been involved in the massacres in the starry sky of the past. Before death, they had left this rain of coffins as their memorial within the void.

Chapter 1237: To Die With Regrets
In his years of travels collecting souls, Bai Xiaochun had come to a much better understanding of the void around him.
And yet, despite all the ruins he had seen, nothing left him as shaken as watching millions of coffins floating by in front of him.
Eventually, he turned his back on the void and sat down thoughtfully. As of this point, he was absolutely convinced… that this void was a place of death, with the only life existing in the Eternal Immortal Domains.
"The only things left are the souls, and spirit automatons like Xiaochi." Sighing, he looked over at Bai Xiaochi, and suddenly felt profoundly sorry for him. His own mood had sunk over the past few years, a period of time that was nothing compared to the immense span of time that the spirit automaton had floated alone through the void. It was no wonder that his attitude had been so bad when they first met.
Time continued to pass in silence. Year after year, one set of ruins after another. One day… the fan suddenly began to slow down. It wasn't the work of Bai Xiaochun, nor Bai Xiaochi. Apparently, the fan was about to reach its final destination. Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi was panting, and his eyes flickered strangely, as though he was familiar with the location they were approaching, but at the same time, unfamiliar.
The region up above was filled with so many ruins that it's overall size surpassed anything Bai Xiaochun had seen so far during his travels. In fact, it was impossible to see where these ruins ended!
There were destroyed buildings, crushed boulders, and innumerable destroyed magical items. Occasionally, it was even possible to see plants that were so dried and withered that they would collapse into dust if they were touched….
There were also slight fluctuations in the area that instantly caused Bai Xiaochun's aura to retract slightly, and his eyes to shine.
"Immortal energy!" he murmured, rising slowly to his feet. As soon as he sensed that energy, and looked out to determine which path the fan was following, a monumental possibility occurred to him.
"I bet that this place is… the Immortal World mentioned by the sovereign owner of the fan!!
"In the past, it was the most flourishing location in the starry sky, and home to the most advanced civilization!!
"It was also where… this fan was created!!"
He looked over at Bai Xiaochi and could see that strange look in his eye, as if he recognized this place, but at the same time, found it unfamiliar. That only seemed to bolster his speculation. And as he examined his surroundings more closely, he came to be convinced that he was looking at a shattered continent!!
From the endless dust-covered ruins, it was possible to guess how spectacular the Immortal World of the past had been. Soon, an image appeared in Bai Xiaochun's mind… of a land mass that surpassed the Eternal Immortal Domains in size by nearly a hundred times!!
In the area surrounding that enormous land mass were hundreds of thousands of spherical objects. Although it was impossible for Bai Xiaochun to determine what those objects were, the evidence of their existence was clear, based on the wreckage that remained.
"Home…." Bai Xiaochi murmured.
Shaken, Bai Xiaochun looked around at the ruins as they slowly drifted through them. Although the fan had clearly slowed down, it was still moving as quickly as a celestial.
Even moving at that speed, years passed without any end in sight. During that time, Bai Xiaochun studied the ruins around him, passing hundreds of locations that pulsed with fluctuations that caused even him to shiver with fear.
Even looking closely at such locations didn't provide any further information about them. However, considering Bai Xiaochun's progress with the Essence of time, he was able to determine that they were the auras of powerful experts who had died countless years in the past.
At the very least, such auras were at the level of an archaean…. From these ruins, Bai Xiaochun began to gain an understanding of what the Immortal World of yesteryear had been like. The sheer glory and power of this place defied imagination.
It was impossible to even imagine what level of power, what catastrophe, could bring an end to the majestic Immortal World.
"The continent shattered," Bai Xiaochun murmured. "The hundreds of thousands of spheroids were crushed. All of the archaeans were exterminated, and the Immortal Imperatrix died a bitter death. All the Immortal Imperator could do was create this fan and send it away, along with a clone projection. He… died here…." Months passed. Eventually, when the fan reached a certain area, it decelerated rapidly!
When that happened, Bai Xiaochun looked around at the ruins, and realized that he felt something tugging at him, some huge object!
And that object was none other than the destination of the treasured fan!
Or perhaps… that enormous object had summoned the fan to it!
It was what appeared to be… a shockingly enormous pale white spheroid, fully 30,000 meters tall!!
Bai Xiaochun gasped. As for Bai Xiaochi, as soon as he saw the object, his lips quivered as though he wished to speak, and yet no words came out. However, his eyes radiated what could only be intense pain.
Soon, Bai Xiaochun had an idea of what was happening. The fan began to slowly orbit the object, and as it reached the other side, Bai Xiaochun's mind began to spin. Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi let loose a weeping cry.
"Milord!!"
"Immortal Imperator!!" Bai Xiaochun blurted. This was no random sphere, it was… a gigantic head!!
As its facial features became visible, Bai Xiaochun realized that they perfectly matched those of the projection of the Immortal Imperator that he had met in the hundredth level of the treasured fan!
Crusted blood oozed out of his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. His eyes were still open, even in death, and even after all of the countless tens of thousands of years which had passed since then, it was still possible to see the immense defiance within them.
Just by looking into those eyes, Bai Xiaochun could almost hear a roar of rage that shook him down to his soul!
Although he had previously speculated that the treasured fan had been summoned by the very sovereign who had created it, when the moment arrived that his theory was proved correct, he simply couldn't remain calm. In fact, the grief and rage contained within the head influenced the area around it, causing everything to distort from the pressure.
If it weren't for Bai Xiaochun's particularly powerful fleshly body, and the fact that he was on the fan itself, he wouldn't have been able to even get close. Even with all that protection, he still felt out of sorts, and had trouble breathing. After a bit of time passed, and he acclimated a bit, he clasped hands and bowed deeply to the Immortal Imperator.
After expressing his thanks to the Immortal Imperator for creating the treasured fan, he rose from his bow and looked at the head.
"Eee?" he murmured. Sending some divine sense out, he attempted to make contact with the head, and although it was difficult, with help from the fan, he succeeded.
In that instant, he trembled, and his Daoseed began to tremble as if with desperate anticipation. Shaken, Bai Xiaochun realized that there was power lurking within the sovereign's head!!
It was a strange power, neither immortal energy, nor cultivation base power. It actually reminded him of when he had become a celestial, and the Eternal Mother had whispered into his ear.
"It's qi flow!" Bai Xiaochi whispered. "I know why the fan came here. It wasn't summoned by my master, but rather… from what exists inside my master's head. It's… the qi flow of the Immortal World!
"Bai Xiaochun, you are milord's successor, and thus you qualify to absorb the last bit of qi flow from the Immortal World! If you do, then breaking into the Archaean Ream… should be as easy as turning over your hand!!"

Chapter 1238: Absorbing Memories
Bai Xiaochun looked at the sovereign's head, and as Bai Xiaochi's voice rang in his ears, he realized that just as the spirit automaton had said, that strange power was indeed the last bit of qi flow from the Immortal World!
That qi flow had pulled the fan to it, which made sense considering that the qi flow had created the fan in this very location!
As for his own Daoseed, it thirsted for that power for the same reason Bai Xiaochi had mentioned. If he could absorb the last of the Immortal World's qi flow, then he could easily break through into the Archaean Realm!
This was an opportunity that any celestial would go crazy over, good fortune that was rarely encountered. Other than the Eternal Immortal Domains, there were no other worlds in this void who had managed to preserve some of their qi flow through the catastrophe.
Any other person besides Bai Xiaochun would have had to expend great effort to think of a way to extract that qi flow and absorb it. After all, it would require the approval of the qi flow itself.
But Bai Xiaochun didn't need to worry about that. After becoming the owner of the fan, he had gained the approval of the sovereign's clone projection. In essence, he had already sown karma with the Immortal World.
Although it seemed like a tenuous connection, it was enough to acquire the approval of the qi flow!
But now, he faced one main challenge… how to actually extract the qi flow!
After a bit of analysis, his anticipation was building, and his eyes shone brightly. After all, he had been stuck in the great circle of the Celestial Realm for quite a while now, unable to break through. Therefore, this opportunity, this good fortune, was enough to cause his heart to swell with fervor.
But as usual, he didn't act rashly. He first analyzed his surroundings, circling the area on the fan for a while, and even sending his archaean slaves out to explore a bit.
Only after that did he emerge from the fan and approach the sovereign's head. As he neared, the pressure mounted, but soon enough, he was only 30 meters away from it.
At this distance, it wasn't even possible to see the top of the gigantic head. All he could see was grayish skin, with wrinkles as wide as his arm was long.
Enduring the uncomfortable pressure, and under the anxious gaze of Bai Xiaochi, he performed an incantation gesture with his right hand and then pushed out toward the sovereign's head, unleashing the power of his cultivation base in an attempt to extract the qi flow.
Unfortunately, no amount of cultivation base power provoked any reaction from the qi flow. It was almost as if it didn't even know Bai Xiaochun existed.
He tried various divine abilities and magical techniques. He tried biting his tongue and using his own blood. But the qi flow didn't react in the least. Bai Xiaochun was really starting to get nervous.
After hesitating for a moment, he took another step forward, using Gravitational Extermination in an attempt to nullify the pressure weighing down from the sovereign's head, and even unleashing some of the aura of his Undying Sovereign's Fist. He also transmitted a message to Bai Xiaochi asking for help, who then used the power of the fan to strengthen him.
And thus, he continued forward step by step. From the 30-meter mark, he reached 24 meters, then 15 meters, then 9 meters. Eventually, he was only one pace away, close enough to reach out and touch the head. By that point, he was trembling, and his face was magenta from the effort.
Reaching out, he placed his hand onto the skin that was the surface of the sovereign's head. In that instant, his head began to spin, and he was overwhelmed with what felt like a mountain crushing down on him.
If he had acquired the qi flow at the price of being crushed a bit, he could have accepted it. But even after touching the head, there was no reaction from the qi flow.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, he staggered backward until he was back on the fan. Gasping for breath, he looked over at the sovereign's head, completely flummoxed by the situation with the qi flow.
"How do I extract it…?" he thought. Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi looked equally stunned and confused, and had no advice to give.
Half a month passed, during which time Bai Xiaochun tried everything he could think of. Each time, he met with failure, coughed up blood, and waited to recover before trying again.
Eventually, he was beginning to lose hope. Sitting there on the fan, he stared at the sovereign's head, considering if it might be possible to drag it into the face of the fan.
It did not seem possible to extract the qi flow through ordinary means. As far as destroying the head… not only was he unable, even if he had been, he wouldn't stoop to that level. He had a bottom line in life, and repaying kindness with enmity was not something he would do. After all, in some ways, the Immortal Imperator was his Master!
And Bai Xiaochi would obviously not tolerate such profane behavior.
Bai Xiaochun sat there with a frown on his face for five days, thinking. Eventually, his brow furrowed even more deeply as a new idea occurred to him.
"There seem to be two possibilities as to why I can't extract the qi flow…. Either my methods are wrong, or I don't qualify. If I qualified, then I should be able to just beckon to the qi flow, and have it fly out to me….
"Therefore, I really only have one choice. I need to… trick the qi flow into thinking that I'm the Immortal Imperator!!" His eyes began to shine brightly at the audacity of the idea. However, the more he thought about it, the more he realized that it seemed like a definite possibility.
"To trick the qi flow, I could use… my Sutra of Future Pāramitā to connect the Immortal Imperator's fate to my own…. If that's not enough, I could use my Sutra of Former Reincarnation to try to gain access to some of the sovereign's memories, whatever is left in his head….
"If I can understand his life by experiencing his memories… then I will be him, and he will be me…." After pondering the situation a bit more, he blurred into motion, heading directly toward the sovereign's head, specifically, the forehead. As he got close, he reached out and touched the skin!
Next, he performed an incantation gesture with his left hand, unleashing his Sutra of Future Pāramitā. Red strands swirled out into his left hand, transforming into a crimson pāramitā lily. The instant the flower entered the sovereign's head, Bai Xiaochun's mind rumbled, and something profoundly ancient filled him.
At the same time, a trembling scream erupted from his mouth….
"My head… my head…." After connecting his fate to the sovereign's, it suddenly felt like his own head had been chopped off. The pain, and the sensation of death, were overwhelmingly realistic.
Thankfully, he had been prepared for something like this, and managed to hold on to consciousness. Then, to his excitement, the scrap of qi flow began to stir and move in his direction. Although it didn't come all the way, it covered nearly half the distance.
Immediately, he brightened up.
"So, it's working. Well, now I need to see if I can fuse with his memories…." His left hand blurred again as he unleashed the Sutra of Former Reincarnation. The instant he touched the sovereign's forehead, a tremor passed through him, and his eyes went blank. Suddenly, he didn't seem like himself, as though his soul were leaving his body, and entering a world filled with mists….
This world was so huge that Bai Xiaochun began to turn completely blank, forgetting time, forgetting everything around him. Eventually, he felt someone pushing and prodding him.
"Wake up, Little Chen…."

Chapter 1239: That Year
Bai Xiaochun felt like he was being prodded awake from a deep sleep. He opened his eyes, and it was as if his soul had lost access to all of his previous memories. He had no idea who he was, and only knew that he felt very cold….
White, fluffy snowflakes fell from above, completely obscuring the sky, and also covering the ground, making even the distant mountains a pale white color.
Bai Xiaochun found himself in a forest of withered trees. In fact, the trees were covered with so much snow that many of their branches had already snapped. The scattered branches that remained intact seemed like spots of black within the wider world of whiteness.
"Do not fall asleep, Little Chen," someone said. "Stay awake…."
Bai Xiaochun felt like he had been dreaming, except he couldn't remember what the dream had been about. Now that he was awake, everything was all a blur.
All he knew was that it was cold, so cold that he felt like he might freeze. Perhaps the cold had sealed his memories.
But then… he felt himself being prodded a few times, and a face appeared in front of him, white with frost.
It was a youngster, about thirteen or fourteen years old. He was gaunt, and apparently injured, as his clothing was torn and stained with blood. He looked very weak, but there was something about his eyes that was completely unforgettable. They shimmered like stars, but at the same time, contained a ruthlessness that belied his young age. And yet, when he gazed at Bai Xiaochun, that ruthlessness vanished, to be replaced with warmth and love.
"Brother…." Bai Xiaochun murmured, his lips quivering. Yes, his memories were telling him that this was indeed… his older brother, a blood brother with whom he shared both father and mother!
Even saying that one word, brother, caused a wave of exhaustion to pass through him. He almost wasn't sure he could deal with the biting wind, a wild wind that filled him with bleakness and desolation.
It was obviously the dead of winter, what with the falling snowflakes. However, as he looked up into the sky, he realized that there were also bugs flying high up in the sky… pale white locusts!
Apparently, their presence within the snowstorm was what had led to the famine which gripped the lands. There were other people in the area, refugees who huddled against the wind, their gaunt frames and listless expressions making it difficult to tell if they were even alive….
They all feared the cold, and yet, no one seemed willing to start a fire. Not because they didn't want to, but because they didn't dare…. When Bai Xiaochun looked at the locusts in the snowstorm, he could instantly tell that they were unique in more than one way. Not only could they survive in this icy cold, but it was also obvious that fire would attract their attention. And in the dead of winter, when food was scarce, they would eat anything they could find.
The weight of all of these thoughts seemed to weaken him, to the point where he could barely lift his hand. However, he somehow managed to do that, and when he did, he saw the hand of a seven- or eight-year-old. His hand dropped back down, and he struggled to keep his eyes open….
The young man who had spoken moments ago seemed relieved to see Bai Xiaochun awake. However, he could also see how weak he was, and how he was having trouble keeping his eyes open. He prodded him anxiously a few more times, clearly grieving at the fact that his younger brother was having trouble hanging on to life. The problem was hunger; only if he could find food to eat would his brother have the strength to keep on living.
"Hang in there a bit longer, Little Chen. I'll get some food for you. Just wait, I'll be back right away!" Determination flashed in the youngster's eyes, and as he turned away from his younger brother, the ruthlessness returned to his face. Looking like a lone wolf, he stalked off into the forest.
He was clearly in a weak state, but apparently, Bai Xiaochun's moment of crisis had unlocked shocking toughness within him. Ignoring his injuries and his weakness, he vanished into the trees.
"Brother…." Bai Xiaochun murmured, although his voice was too quiet for anyone to hear. He knew that his big brother was going to get food for him, and vaguely remembered that it was only after the white locusts had arrived that the famine started, and disease spread. Everyone back home in their village had either starved to death or died of disease, including their parents.
Bai Xiaochun knew that the only reason he was alive was his brother's strength. After he had fallen sick, his brother had cared for him and even carried him on his back during their journey. When the adults had begun to fight amongst each other for food, his brother had developed a ruthlessness that even they feared.
His brother gave him most of the food. Even when his brother's stomach growled with hunger, he pretended to be full, and would say, "I'm your big brother, aren't I? Here, eat."
Thus, Bai Xiaochun remained alive. He remembered that his name was Zhou Chen, and his older brother was Zhou Fan. And he was also sure that, without the dead weight that was himself, his ruthless brother would definitely have had it much better off in this chaotic world…. [1]
Unfortunately, despite how his brother had cared for him, his sickness had weakened him to the point where he couldn't hang on for much longer.
"Without me, my brother would have a much better life…." he thought. Eventually, he closed his eyes and let the snowflakes begin to cover him up, the flame of his life force beginning to flicker out. However, even as that was about to happen, a powerful force pushed the snow away, scattering even the white locusts in the area. At the same time, an old man descended from above, clad in a Daoist robe, an unsightly expression on his face.
As soon as the refugees in the area saw the old man, they kowtowed, trembling. They opened their mouths as if to beg for his help, but even as they did, locusts began to crawl out from inside them….
None of them had the power to even scream as they simply waited to die.
The old man looked at all of the refugees who had already been infected by the parasitic locusts, and a gleam of pity appeared in his eyes. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about the situation. Waving his hands, he put the tortured refugees out of their misery.
Clearly in a horrific mood, the old man turned to leave, which was when he noticed Bai Xiaochun.
"Eee?" he muttered, stopping in place and looking more closely. A moment later, his eyes lit up with disbelief. "A Dao Body?"
Walking over to Bai Xiaochun, he waved his hand, causing a warmth to enter him that stabilized the flickering flame of his life force.
As he looked closer at Bai Xiaochun, his eyes began to shine even more brightly. Throwing his head back, he laughed heartily before picking the unconscious Bai Xiaochun up and flying up into the air with him….
After enough time passed for an incense stick to burn, the emaciated Zhou Fan staggered back. Snow was piled up on his shoulders and head, and each step he took left drops of blood on the snow.
He had a few new wounds on his face, and he was bleeding from his abdomen. He was in very bad shape, and yet, his eyes flickered with excitement. Tucked into the fold of his garment was a steamed bun, soaked with blood, that he had risked his life to rob from someone else.
"Little Chen! I found some food for–" Before he could finish speaking, his face fell as he noticed all the corpses in the area. Looking around anxiously, he rushed over to where he had left Bai Xiaochun, only to find no one there. That, and the sight of all of locusts devouring the nearby corpses, made his heart seize.
"Little Chen!" he wailed. "Little Chen!!"
He had lost his only relative. He had lost everything. Trembling, he continued to search in vain. In the end, he dropped down onto the very spot where his brother had been lying, holding the blood-soaked bun, and began to weep.
"Little Chen…." In his despair, he didn't notice that the scent of the blood had attracted a horde of white locusts, who descended from the sky and swarmed over him.
1. There is a clue here that seems fairly obvious in Chinese, and yet still leaves a lot of room for speculation. Remember a few chapters ago when Bai Xiaochun experienced the vision in the hourglass world, and heard a Master talking to two apprentices? I translated those apprentices' Daoist names as the Worldly Daoist and Mortal Renegade. In Chinese, those Daoist names are Dao Chen and Ni Fan. The brothers in this chapter are Zhou Chen and Zhou Fan. The final characters are the same, implying that the brothers in this chapter have something to do with the Worldly Daoist and Mortal Renegade.

Chapter 1240: Valley Of Black Clouds
Somewhere in the void, in the ruins of the Immortal World, next to the sovereign's head, Bai Xiaochi was paying close attention to everything. He saw Bai Xiaochun shiver, and then weaken in unprecedented fashion. He seemed to be instantly drained of energy, and blood began to ooze out of the corners of his mouth as he toppled down and away from the statue.
However, at the same time, the qi flow, which had remained unmoving this entire time, stirred, and thirty percent of it shot toward Bai Xiaochun!
That portion of the qi flow entered Bai Xiaochun, causing him to shiver. Soon, he was back on the treasured fan, looking exhausted, but excited. As the thirty percent of the qi flow entered him, his cultivation base power suddenly formed a resonance with the ruins of the Immortal World!
It caused his mind to reel as shocking transformations occurred to his cultivation base. As of this moment, Bai Xiaochun was sure… that if he could absorb the rest of that qi flow, and formed a complete resonance with the ruins of the Immortal World, then his cultivation base… would definitely break through to the next level!!
"What did you see?" Bai Xiaochi asked anxiously.
"I saw…." Strange light flickered in his eyes as he recalled what he had just experienced. He remembered being Zhou Chen, and how he had forgotten that he was Bai Xiaochun. It was as if he had actually become Zhou Chen.
More precisely, everything he had said, and even his thoughts, were all memories… recollections of things that had occurred in the past!
Bai Xiaochun looked over at Bai Xiaochi. "The Immortal Imperator's name… was Zhou Chen?"
Bai Xiaochi shivered. Looking back in shock at Bai Xiaochun, he quietly said, "So you really did succeed…."
Although everything he had said before was true, and he really did hope that Bai Xiaochun would be able get that qi flow, he had believed it to be too hard. And when Bai Xiaochun had fallen moments ago, his hesitation had grown.
But now, he found out that Bai Xiaochun had actually succeeded!
"I saw… the Immortal Imperator as a youth…." Bai Xiaochun closed his eyes and thought back to everything he had seen. Frowning, he realized that he was still somewhat under the effects of what had just happened. As soon as he thought back to the sovereign's brother, a swell of fondness rose up in his heart.
"If I continue with this, the emotional effects will probably get more serious…. But I have to do it. I need this qi flow to achieve my cultivation base breakthrough!" After considering matters for a bit, he decided that although there were some risks, he could accept that. Eyes flashing with determination, he once again flew up toward the sovereign's head. Having been through the process once before, and having already acquired thirty percent of the qi flow, he quickly unleashed his Sutra of the Future and Sutra of the Former.
His mind began to reel, and he felt the same thing as last time. His mind went blank. Time passed, and then he opened his eyes.
Blinding sunlight stabbed into his eyes, but he didn't close them. He stood outside a valley of black clouds, tall, handsome, and the very picture of righteousness and vitality!
However, there was something that pained him in his heart, a feeling that he couldn't dispel.
The last time he had entered the sovereign's memories, he had been young, but now, Zhou Chen was middle-aged. Many things had happened since his youth, and he had accomplished much.
He wasn't alone outside of the valley of black clouds. A few hundred people were at his side, all of them cultivators, and they were flanked by thousands more cultivators. Clearly, they had this area locked down tight!
Even further back were tens of thousands of cultivators, gathered in ranks, causing immense pressure to weigh down on the area. All gazes in the area were fixed on one thing…. Standing in front of Zhou Chen, with his back to the valley of black clouds, was a middle-aged cultivator in a black robe, with long black hair and blood smeared all over his face!
He was also handsome, but in a vicious, evil way. His eyes were violet, and his expression was ice cold. The murderous aura he radiated could shake heaven and earth, and could not even be suppressed by the tens of thousands of cultivators in the area!
Unfortunately, he was injured, with his chest caved in, and his right leg broken. The pain involved must have been intense, but he simply stood there looking out… not at the tens of thousands of cultivators, but at one person!
That person… was Bai Xiaochun, or rather, Zhou Chen!
"Brother…" Bai Xiaochun said, his voice filled with pain. He almost seemed to be pleading, although he didn't realize it. "Come back with me. I can be your guarantor! It's not your fault you did all those things. I…."
His pain and guilt stemmed from how, years ago, he had pled with his Master to go search for his brother, Zhou Fan. Unfortunately, they hadn't been able to find him. At that point, he had sworn to avenge his death, and had gone crazy practicing cultivation. Later on, he had exterminated the entire White Locust Dynasty, which at that time had come to dominate all of the Immortal World's Lower Three Heavens. Eventually, the world returned to normal, and Zhou Chen felt that he could breathe a sigh of relief. However, he was never able to forget about that older brother of his.
Years later, he came to find that the Immortal World had nine heavens, and that he lived in the Lower Three Heavens. Eventually, he became one of the most well-known figures there, the subject of much adoration. That was when Zhou Fan reappeared. He led the forces of the Black Locust Dynasty, which were far more terrifying than the White Locust Dynasty. As they spread through the Lower Three Heavens, consuming everything in their path, they added the power of their victims to Zhou Fan's cultivation base.
It was a vile, terrifying technique that caused widespread alarm among the cultivators of the Lower Three Heavens. A bitter war was fought for many years…. It was a difficult, deadly era, that culminated in this event.
"I'll even give up my shot at reaching the Middle Three Heavens if it will keep you safe…." Bai Xiaochun continued. "Brother, please, come with me…."
Mixed emotions could be seen in the eyes of the black-robed Zhou Fan. However, he shook his head, and his eyes turned as cold as ice.
"From now on, Little Chen… you and I… are not family!" Looking around at the surrounding cultivators, he smiled mockingly, then turned and walked into the valley of black clouds.
No one attempted to stop him. As far as they were concerned, stepping into that valley meant that he was already dead, exterminated!
In apparent confirmation of their assumption, as Zhou Fan walked into the clouds, they began to eat away at his body. He trembled as he walked forward, his flesh rotting off, bones becoming visible…. As he corroded, waves of black locusts erupted from inside of him, shrieking in pain as they tried to escape. Before they could, they were obliterated by the clouds….
Everyone else sighed in relief. But not Bai Xiaochun. Pain gripped his heart as he watched his brother being eaten away by the clouds. Finally, he stepped forward and called out in a loud voice, "Brother, why are you doing this? Tell me? Why?!?!"
Zhou Fan was clearly having a hard time struggling forward. When he heard his brother's voice, he stopped for a moment, then opened his mouth as if to speak. However, he said nothing. Bowing his head, he continued onward, rotting away. By now, he was little more than bones, making a completely fearsome sight. Only his eyes continued to burn with obsession and focus as he strode deeper into the valley of clouds.
Already, it was possible for him to see something at the end of the valley, in the depths of the black clouds, something enormous. It was… a battleship!

As soon as that battleship became visible within the black mists, Bai Xiaochun's vision ended.
Having regaining lucidity, he found himself in front of the sovereign's head, being shoved away by the immense pressure. This time, he fared much better than on the previous occasion. He had acquired an additional twenty percent of the qi flow, which was already entering his body.
Bai Xiaochi didn't ask any questions, but his eyes shone brightly; he knew what was happening. Bai Xiaochun returned to the fan and rested for a few days, then headed back toward the sovereign's head, his eyes shining with determination.
As his hand touched the skin, and he unleashed his Daoist magics, the blankness once again took over. By now, he was used to it, and simply let it happen.
Time passed, after which, he woke up. Or perhaps it was Zhou Chen who woke up.
This was his third vision of the sovereign's memories. Much time had passed since the events of the second. Although Zhou Chen still looked middle-aged, he was now more dignified. He hovered in the starry sky, a beautiful woman at his side, who was none other than his Daoist partner, his Immortal Imperatrix!
Arrayed behind them was an army of millions upon millions of cultivators!
Facing them was a black cloud mass filled with devilish specters. Not an ounce of life force was present there, nor could any life force be detected on the black-robed man who stood in front of the clouds, who was none other than Zhou Fan.
His black robe itself seemed capable of consuming everything in its path; it even caused the light in the area to bend toward him.
The black hair which swirled around him did nothing to hide the icy coldness of his eyes as he stared at the leader of the army from the Immortal World, Zhou Chen, as well as… the woman at his side!
Mixed emotions could be seen in Zhou Fan's eyes as he looked at her, but soon they vanished, and he focused his attention on Zhou Chen.
"Zhou Chen… or rather, I suppose I should call you… the Worldly Daoist!" [1]
As Bai Xiaochun hovered there, he couldn't prevent the rage and anger from rising up in his heart, as well as… the grief. He thought back to how, after his brother entered the valley of the black clouds, everything went back to normal. Zhou Chen eventually chose to rise to the Middle Three Heavens, and after several years, became a celestial!
Then something happened that was relatively rare. He ascended to the Higher Three Heavens, where he became the apprentice of the then-reigning Immortal Imperator!
At that point, he was given a Daoist name. No longer would he be Zhou Chen; he would be the Worldly Daoist. That was when… he met an Elder Brother called the Mortal Daoist who reminded him a lot of his own older brother. They got along well, and soon became archaeans together. Both of them fell in love with their Junior Sister, who happened to be the daughter of the Immortal Imperator…. Eventually, their Master, the original Immortal Imperator, faded away, becoming a part of the starry sky's Essence of time, a portion of the River of Time and Space itself.
Years later, the Worldly Daoist gained the approval of the Immortal World, and became a sovereign. He was named the new Immortal Imperator, and his Junior Sister chose to marry him, becoming his Immortal Imperatrix! Unfortunately, the Mortal Daoist, whose cultivation base was actually slightly higher than the Worldly Daoist's, was frustrated over and over in his attempts to achieve a breakthrough, and could not gain the approval of the Immortal World.
It was a matter of public note, and many people had speculations about the situation. And that was when, down in the Lower Three Heavens, outside the valley of the black clouds, Zhou Fan appeared, clad in a black robe.
He was not alone. Countless devilish specters emerged from the clouds with him, and once again, war visited the Immortal World!
However, that was not the most shocking development. When Zhou Fan and Mortal Daoist met, the two of them merged into one! At that point, everyone knew that Mortal Daoist, apprentice of the original Immortal Imperator, was actually the clone of Zhou Fan, who had disappeared into the Lower Three Heavens years ago!!
Somehow, after the clone and the true self merged back together, despite the fact that the will of the Immortal World refused to offer approval, he broke through to become a sovereign!
At that point, he discarded his true surname of Zhou. He also abandoned the Daoist part of his earlier Daoist name. He kept the Fan character, which meant mortal, and then added the character renegade to it!
He was rebelling against that which was orthodox, defying the heavens to change his fate! As of that moment, the Immortal World gained… the Mortal Renegade, Devil Imperator!
For a sovereign to exist without the approval of the Immortal World was heresy, but there was nothing that could be done about it. As soon as the Mortal Renegade became a sovereign, he led his army of devilish specters to wage war on the Immortal World!
After much bitter fighting, the two brothers were finally reunited at this moment!
"Mortal Renegade, you're a sovereign now, so why stay in the Immortal World? Back outside the Valley of Extermination in the Lower Three Heavens, all I asked was that you come back to me. I would have done anything….
"Now, all I ask is that you go. Leave the Immortal World, and never come back!" The Worldly Daoist hid the pain in his eyes as he looked at the stranger that was his brother. Up to this point, he still didn't understand… why all of this was happening.
Meanwhile, the Mortal Renegade hovered in the starry sky, hands clasped behind his back as he looked at the Worldly Daoist, a faint smile on his face.
"You know, Worldly Daoist, there is a legend in this starry sky. If this universe were to be bereft of all life force, all living beings, all worlds, and all peoples, if the starry sky went dark, then in the black void that resulted, an Eternal Flower would bloom!
"The Eternal Flower will only bloom when a vast collection of worlds vanish. Only one flower! Consume that flower, and you can break out of the Sovereign Realm and become… truly Eternal!
"That is the only way to become Eternal. There is no other path." There was a bizarre power within Mortal Renegade's voice that caused everyone who heard him speak to feel deeply shaken.
"So yes, I'll leave. But I'll only do so after wiping out the Immortal World. Then I'll go to the next world, and the next group of people. Eventually… I will extinguish all of the starry sky, at which point, the Eternal Flower will bloom for me."
The vision ended, but Bai Xiaochun did not awaken. He sank into blankness again, and when he opened his eyes again, he saw the last memories that existed in the sovereign's head!
As they poured in, he trembled, and felt himself filling up with rage, and even more so, grief.
He was there in the starry sky, hair disheveled, weak, and injured. His life was about to sputter out as he looked down at the crumbling Immortal World, where countless devilish specters were slaughtering cultivators left and right. Obviously… the Immortal World was no match for this opponent!!
The countless spheres which surrounded the Immortal World were shattering. In his arms… was the corpse of a woman!
She was his Immortal Imperatrix, but her aura had been exterminated. There, in her forehead… was a black spike, slowly emanating black smoke!!
That spike had destroyed her life force, and despite being a sovereign who had mastered the Essence of life and death, the Worldly Daoist was not capable of resurrecting her. He could only hold her body, tears streaming down his face as he threw his head back and howled, "Mortal Renegade!!!"
The Worldly Daoist stared at the black-robed figure in front of him, whose mere presence, as well as the vile black smoke that swirled around him, caused everything to twist and distort.
Although his life had reached the end, and the flame of his life force was about to go out, the Worldly Daoist still had the energy to shout, "Why? Why did you do all of this!?!?
"Shanshan is my Daoist partner, and your Junior Sister! She's our Master's only flesh and blood! How could you be so cruel!?!?
"Don't tell me it's for that Eternal Flower. That's just a legend. And even if it's true, it doesn't explain why you've changed! Mortal Renegade! Zhou Fan! Brother! Tell me… what happened to you?!?!"
1. His Daoist name keeps one of the elements from his actual name, the "Chen" character that I am translating as "Worldly"

Chapter 1242: Eternal Spirit
The Mortal Renegade didn't seem to be affected at all by the Worldly Daoist's shout. He simply looked back at him calmly, almost as if he were already dead. Apparently, he really had severed any and all emotions connected to him.
It was only after the Worldly Daoist's voice faded away that he finally spoke.
"There are two people in my heart, two people who have hindered my pursuit of the great Dao. The first is the woman that both of us fell in love with. The other… is you."
This was the first time that Mortal Renegade had actually acknowledged the relationship between himself and the Worldly Daoist. In response, the Worldly Daoist shivered. However, he knew his brother, and therefore, chuckled bitterly and said, "I understand. You killed Junior Sister, and now you'll kill me…. Afterward, nothing will hinder your pursuit of your Dao!"
Mortal Renegade looked back at the Worldly Daoist, who was now so weak he couldn't fight back no matter how much he wanted to, and then nodded.
"After I kill you," he said, "I'll eradicate the Immortal World. Then, I will have no hindrances. As for whether or not the Eternal Flower is a mere myth… well, there's only one way to find out for sure.
"Even if it's not real… all of this still conforms to my Dao!" Not giving the Worldly Daoist a chance to respond, he waved his hand, his eyes flickering coldly as the starry sky around him distorted. Apparently, a natural law was at play, causing an invisible, invincible blade to appear. The blade flashed… and the Worldly Daoist's head flew off of his body along with a spray of blood!
Shockingly, the blade was so enormous that the Worldly Daoist's fleshly body, as well as the body of his wife… were shredded into nothing but drifting ash.
Only his head remained, and in the final moment before he actually died, he managed to say one more thing!
"Master once told me that if there really is an Eternal Flower, then after it absorbed all of the desolation and death of this starry sky, it would definitely form its own spirit! You are doomed to lose, Mortal Renegade!!"
The Mortal Renegade's expression remained the same as ever. He closed his eyes, and as he did, his aura began to grow stronger. The spheres of the Immortal World had crumbled, and the nine heavens that made up the land mass had fallen into ruin. All living beings had been exterminated, leaving behind only devilish specters….
The Mortal Renegade's aura reached an indescribable level, whereupon he opened his eyes, turned, and led his massive army on a rampage to exterminate everything!
That was where the vision ended. Bai Xiaochun's eyes opened, and the last of the qi flow flowed into him.
At the same time, the Worldly Daoist's head crumbled into ashes and drifted out into the surrounding ruins. As of this day, he finally got his dying wish: to be buried along with the Immortal World.
Bai Xiaochun stood there, quietly watching the ashes drift away, his mind alive with the memories of the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator.
Now he knew the truth about the Eternal Immortal Domains, also known as the Eternal Flower, as well as the enormous giant who was sealed outside of them.
"The Mortal Renegade…." he murmured. He knew much now, but there was also a lot of missing information. However, he was eighty percent confident that his speculations and analysis of those aspects were correct.
The Mortal Renegade had killed his younger brother, and the woman they both loved. He had wiped out the Immortal World, and then led his army of devilish specters on a path of extermination and destruction….
In the end, he killed all of the people in the starry sky, and destroyed all of the worlds that existed within it. Just as he had said, he cast the starry sky into complete darkness. And then, just as had been spoken of in the legends, the desolation and death caused the Eternal Flower to bloom.
According to such legends, the only way for a cultivator to break out of the Sovereign Realm was to use that Eternal Flower, and reach… the Eternal Realm!
The Mortal Renegade came very, very close to succeeding. He cast the starry sky into darkness, and destroyed everything that existed. The desolation he brought proved the legends true; he personally witnessed the Eternal Flower bloom!
Just outside of the Eternal Immortal Domains, the Mortal Renegade reached out to grab the Eternal Flower, which he would destroy, absorb, and then use to become Eternal.
However… something unexpected happened!
"That was when… just as the Worldly Daoist had said, the Eternal Spirit came to be!" Bai Xiaochun thought back to the stories of the Eternal Mother and the three Eternal Sons. And he thought back to how the Eternal Mother had spoken to him when he became a celestial.
"I bet I can guess what happened. When the Mortal Renegade reached out for the flower, the Eternal Spirit, another term for the Eternal Mother, was not willing to be destroyed and absorbed. She formed three incarnations, three expressions of her divine sense. They became… the Arch-Lord, Saint-Lord, and Vile-Lord. They were the three Eternal Sons!
"The three Eternal Sons fought with the Mortal Renegade, backed by the power of the Eternal Mother. In the end, they paid a bitter price to temporarily resolve the crisis and seal their enemy.
"However, there is one question that remains unanswered. Where did the inhabitants of the Eternal Immortal Domains come from…?" He closed his eyes in thought for some time before coming up with an answer.
"In order to resolve the impending crisis which would inevitably come, the Eternal Mother turned her three Eternal Sons into statues, and then used her divine sense to create worlds inside of them, filled with countless living beings. Her hope was that, years later, when the Mortal Renegade finally broke free, one of her people would be able to reach the Eternal Realm, and stave off complete calamity!
"That was the only thing she could do!" Bai Xiaochun couldn't be sure how much of his speculation was accurate. But based on the clues he had so far, they seemed highly likely to be true.
After a moment of silence, he sighed. Looking out at the ruins of the Immortal World, and the scattered ashes of the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, he clasped hands and bowed deeply. Then he returned to his treasured fan.
Bai Xiaochi seemed about to say something, but held back, and simply stared at the departing ashes, his eyes flickering with grief.
Bai Xiaochun looked over at him, then quietly said, "I'll tell you whatever you want to know about the Immortal Imperator's memories."
Bai Xiaochi shook his head. "There's no need. It's all in the past now."
Bai Xiaochun nodded, then sat down cross-legged to examine the qi flow of the Immortal World that now existed within him. Taking a deep breath, he rotated his cultivation base and began his attempt… to break through to the Archaean Realm!!
Considering there were no living sovereigns, the Archaean Realm was the absolute highest level a cultivator could reach at the moment. However, it was very difficult to do so, a fact made clear considering that there were only two archaeans in the Eternal Immortal Domains.
All celestials dreamed of succeeding, and yet, none could!
In the past, Bai Xiaochun had not understood, but now he did. To become an archaean, one not only had to be sufficiently powerful, one also had to acquire the approval of the world!
Without that approval, any attempts at a breakthrough would fail. As for why there was no third archaean in the Eternal Immortal Domains, Bai Xiaochun already had his speculations.
"The method of giving approval is by distributing a portion of power of the world, in other words, its qi flow…. But the Eternal Mother is too weak now, like a candle flickering in the wind. She simply can't sustain the existence of three archaeans! She can only sustain two!" Eyes flickering, he continued to rotate his cultivation base, and sent the qi flow of the Immortal World circulating through his body. As he did, the signs of an imminent breakthrough became clear!
After all, he was now in the Immortal World, a place that had once been home to the most powerful group of people in all of the starry sky. Even though that world had been reduced to ruins, the remaining qi flow… was enough to propel one person into the Archaean Realm!!

Chapter 1243: Becoming An Archaean!
When a celestial became an archaean, his or her Daoseed would bloom, sending roots out into every corner of the body, and producing a flower of Dao Will!
When the Daoseed disappeared, that was the moment of becoming an archaean expert. With boundless Dao Will, all it took was a thought to unleash divine abilities and magical techniques. Although Dao Will did not make one eternally indestructible, nor did it grant eternal life, to some extent it was like transcending, becoming a truly supernatural entity.
For example, a mere look from the Vile-Emperor could cause ordinary celestials to tremble in their boots. And all the Saint-Emperor had to do was unleash a bit of pressure, and wild colors would flash in heaven and earth. Were it not for Bai Xiaochun's shockingly powerful fleshly body, and its union with his cultivation base, as well as his Archaean Luminescence, he would never have had the requisite battle prowess to fight archaeans.
The reason why archaeans could resurrect fallen celestials who served them also had to do with Dao Will. Upon receiving the portion of a celestial's Daoseed, the archaean would use Dao Will to brand it with an undying mark. If the celestial died, the archaean could then use Dao Will to activate the innate regenerative capabilities that existed within Daoseeds, but were beyond the control of celestials. Then, the Daoseed could form a new soul and body!
The abilities of archaeans to do such things were why imperial dynasties could stand the test of time!
As Bai Xiaochun sat there cross-legged, his Daoseed shone with dazzling light. It had already been years since the seed sent roots throughout his whole body, but it had never been able to bloom into a flower of Dao Will. Now that he had the qi flow of the Immortal World, the resulting reaction was akin to throwing some cold water into a vat of boiling oil!
Rumbling sounds filled him as all of the roots the Daoseed had sent out began to shine brightly.
If anyone could have seen him at that point, it would look like he was filled with innumerable, brightly shining veins. At the same time, his aura was rising higher and higher.
The ruins of the Immortal World began to tremble, and countless motes of dust began to rise up, and then slowly drift toward Bai Xiaochun.
As they swirled around him like a vortex, the sensation of a breakthrough grew even more intense. At the same time, the void vibrated, and more dust swirled in his direction.
Soon, he was surrounded by a vortex fully 300,000 meters from end to end, completely shocking and majestic in appearance.
Boundless light shone up from him as he sat there on the treasured fan. Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi knew that he had reached a critical juncture, and immediately sent out some divine sense as he stood as a Dharma protector.
Time passed. The light grew more intense, and the screaming vortex grew to a size of 3,000,000 meters, and even bigger….
That vortex seemed to contain power to shake all of the void, and that power was only growing stronger. Time seemed to slow. When celestials became archaeans, each one was different. Some could succeed quickly, others took time, the primary factors being one's level of strength, and the approval of the world.
Bai Xiaochun was already far beyond the Celestial Realm in terms of strength, and had the approval of the Immortal World in the form of some of its qi flow. Therefore, the process went relatively quickly for him.
In fact, Bai Xiaochun's level within the Celestial Realm could only be described as heaven-defying. That much was evident from the vortex around him, which was a manifestation of the battle prowess of his cultivation base.
As the vortex spun with utter madness, it soon reached a size of 9,000,000 meters. And it didn't stop there. Next was 15,000,000 meters! Not only was the size itself shocking, so was its speed of expansion.
In the end, it reached 30,000,000 meters, where it finally seemed to find an equilibrium. Because there was no other person to compare to, it was impossible to truly see how shocking that was.
For example, back in the Eternal Immortal Domains, vortexes greater than a few hundreds of thousands of meters had never been seen.
Even in the days of the Immortal World, it would be extremely rare. The Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, had a vortex of 21,000,000 meters. And the only person who could rival Bai Xiaochun was the heaven-defying… Mortal Renegade, Devil Imperator!!
Time passed. The vortex lasted for three years, shaking all of the ruins of the Immortal World, even locations very far away. During the entire time, Bai Xiaochun wasn't affected at all by the screaming winds. And he shone so brightly that it wasn't possible to even make out his body. He was like the only shining star in the void!
Then, a voice spoke out into the ruins of the Immortal World, a voice that rumbled like thunder, but at the same time, was little more than a murmur!
"The Archaean Realm!"
The 30,000,000-meter vortex exploded with intensity, screaming and howling in a way that shook even the most remote areas of the Immortal World, until all of it was affected!
It was a monumental and shocking scene!
The void itself trembled as the vortex which covered the Immortal World gradually took the shape of a flower, blooming right there within the void!!
It was illusory, but clearly visible. Next, all of the rubble and dust that existed in the Immortal World began to vibrate as the illusory image shrank down, rapidly forming into a corporeal flower.
For the first time in three years, the treasured fan finally became visible there in the middle of the Immortal World, along with the flower… that was Bai Xiaochun's Dao Will!!
If any person could have been there to observe what was happening, they would have been profoundly shocked!
The flower continued to shrink for the time it takes an incense stick to burn. Then, Bai Xiaochun took a deep breath, and the flower collapsed into strands of mist that entered his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth.
Cracking sounds echoed out as his hair grew longer, and his skin more fair, leaving him looking even younger than he had before.
He was almost like a teenager now, and yet, when he opened his eyes, they were profoundly abstruse….
"The Archaean Realm…." he whispered again. He had assumed that some sort of tribulation would come, and it would have if he had been in the Eternal Immortal Domains. But now he realized that, because he was in the Immortal World, and had absorbed the last of its qi flow, he had become something like its protector, and therefore, no tribulation came.
He slowly rose to his feet, his aura causing the void to distort around him!
Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi shivered. Looking at Bai Xiaochun, and his surging energy, Bai Xiaochi almost felt like he was looking at his previous master!

Chapter 1244: The Worldly Daoist's Tenacious Focus
As Bai Xiaochun stood there, his hair long, his skin fair, he looked almost the same as he had back when he first joined the Spirit Stream Sect.
But his aura would cause any cultivator who was not an archaean to tremble. Even other archaeans would be able to tell that, although he looked slim and fair, a terrifying power pulsed inside of him!
It wasn't fleshly body power, it was cultivation base power. He was now filled with countless strands of Dao Will, and as for his sea of consciousness, it no longer contained a Daoseed, but rather… a flower of Dao Will!
The changes to his cultivation base felt strange. However, he could already tell that his fleshly body had now fallen behind the power of his cultivation base.
"The next thing I need to do is figure out how to get an archaean-level fleshly body…." It was only at this point that a certain level of excitement appeared in his heart, which was actually strange. He knew that he was the type of person who was usually excited to have achieved a breakthrough, but this time, he was very calm. At first, he hadn't felt any emotions at all.
"It must be the influence of the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator…." With each moment that passed, he felt that excitement growing, until finally, he threw his head back and laughed uproariously.
"I'm an archaean!! You just wait, Vile-Emperor! After I get back, I'll show you a thing or two!" Off to the side, Bai Xiaochi stood there, blinking. Moments ago, the solemn figure standing in front of him had reminded him of his former master, and had filled his heart with reverence. However, that mood was instantly broken by Bai Xiaochun's laughter. At that point, Bai Xiaochi sighed.
Still laughing, Bai Xiaochun sent his divine sense out to the fan face, summoning his two archaean slaves.
Now, it was much easier to summon and control them. Furthermore, they could exist outside of the treasured fan for much longer.
In fact, he could sense that he now had the power and authority to take his archaean slaves with him to the Eternal Immortal Domains.
Although they couldn't stay there for long, perhaps a few days at most, that was still a significant improvement.
"With two archaean slaves at my side, who in the Eternal Immortal Domains would dare to look at me the wrong way!?" He was so excited that he almost felt like jumping up and down. Sending some more divine sense out, he made contact with the boat in the fan face, and then waved his finger!
Rumbling sounds then echoed out as the boat flew out of the fan and into the void, moving far faster than the fan ever could!
At that point, Bai Xiaochun's eyes went wide. He could tell that, although the boat looked ordinary in nature, it was actually a sovereign-level precious treasure!
With the two archaean slaves on the boat, it would be dramatically fast, and also have incredible battle prowess!
"With this boat in my possession, and the fan as the core of my power, I am definitely a force to be reckoned with!" Still bubbling with excitement, he turned his attention to the river in the fan face. Waving his hand, he attempted to summon it, only to find that nothing happened, except that a few waves rolled out across its surface.
Bai Xiaochi cleared his throat. "Milord… that river can only be used by someone with a sovereign cultivation base…."
Not willing to give in that easily, Bai Xiaochun tried over and over again, only to fail every time. However, he could already sense that, if he could summon that river, then if he had to fight the Vile-Emperor again, he could easily kill him!
"A sovereign-level divine ability!" Next, he looked over at the mountain that the Daoist Tower of Life and Death stood atop, but before he could even try to reach out and control it, Bai Xiaochi once again spoke up.
"It's the same with the mountain."
Bai Xiaochun hesitated, then focused specifically on the tower.
"It's the same with the tower," Bai Xiaochi said quietly.
"Shut up!" Bai Xiaochun snapped, glaring at him. His mood was already being ruined thanks to the spirit automaton. Snorting coldly, he put the boat away and then went back to the main surface of the fan. As he looked out at the ruins of the Immortal World, he mused that if he encountered that old ghost woman again, he would probably be able to crush her.
What happened next was even stranger. As soon as he thought about the old ghost woman, he suddenly felt his emotions stirring. All of a sudden, he realized that if she actually did show up, he would have the impulse to rush over and hug her.
"This is crazy! I can handle being less excited, and I can handle feeling like a relative of the Mortal Renegade. But why do I have feelings for that old ghost woman?! Heavens! This won't do at all!"
He was so terrified that the blood drained from his face. The mere thought of what might happen if the old ghost woman showed up and he couldn't control himself caused him to tremble, and even break out in a sweat.
"Listen here, Mr. Worldly Daoist. Don't screw me over. I'm… I'm not you!" By now, his excitement had completely vanished, and he actually felt a bit like crying.
Scowling on the verge of tears, he sat down and sent the fan flying away, scanning the surrounding area for any signs of the old ghost woman.
However, after flying along with the fan for only a short time, and before he could even leave the ruins of the Immortal World, his expression flickered as he looked down at a certain area below!
It wasn't the old ghost woman, but rather… something else that was now familiar. There in the ruins of the Immortal World, he saw a valley filled with black clouds!!
The land surrounding that valley hadn't been damaged at all during the destruction of the world around it, and as such, looked exactly the same as when Bai Xiaochun had seen it in the Worldly Daoist's memories!
It was the same place where the Mortal Renegade had parted ways with his brother!
The Mortal Renegade had changed dramatically because of that valley, and when he emerged, he began his quest to eradicate the starry sky!
All of a sudden, Bai Xiaochun felt unprecedentedly serious. Looking at the clouds in the valley, he suddenly felt a profound sensation of danger. At the same time, memories that once belonged to the Worldly Daoist stirred in his mind.
He remembered that the Worldly Daoist had thought of going into the valley to search for an explanation for why the Mortal Renegade had changed so much. At the time, he had already become a sovereign, and yet, had been unable to find the valley!
It was as if the valley had disappeared! No matter how the Worldly Daoist searched, he couldn't find it. It was almost as if it had died….
But now, years later, after all that remained of the Immortal World was ruins, the valley appeared right in Bai Xiaochun's presence! Considering Bai Xiaochun's personality, it didn't matter that he was now an archaean, he would never step into that valley. He would simply turn and leave.
And yet, even as he looked away and prepared to send the fan away, his expression flickered. Then, he slowly walked off of the fan and headed toward the valley, his body seemingly not under his own control!
At the same time, powerful emotions surged within him!
The emotions turned into a tenacious focus, something that didn't belong to Bai Xiaochun. Instead, it came from the memories of the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator. It was like a form of madness that forced Bai Xiaochun to enter that valley, and search for the truths that the Worldly Daoist had been unable to discover for himself in years past!
Bai Xiaochun howled, his eyes turning bloodshot as he struggled against the effects. It was like there were two consciousnesses in his head, and the side controlled by the tenacious focus of the Worldly Daoist was willing to do anything to unlock the secrets of the valley!
Even as the struggle continued, Bai Xiaochun walked onward. After all, this was the will of a sovereign that he was contending with. To the Worldly Daoist, the valley was simply too important. Soon, that will began to burn as if with fire, affecting Bai Xiaochun to the point where he shivered and stopped in place.
After a few breaths of time passed, he looked up. In that moment, an aura erupted out of him that was very different from Bai Xiaochun's!
The ruins of the Immortal World began to quake, almost as if they wished to prostrate themselves to Bai Xiaochun! At the same time, Bai Xiaochi trembled and cried, "Milord!!"

Chapter 1245: A Ship. A Corpse.
Bai Xiaochi was trembling in unprecedented fashion. From the moment Bai Xiaochun had returned, he had been able to sense a familiar aura on him, which had grown even more intense throughout the process of rising to the Archaean Realm.
He had even started to respect Bai Xiaochun more because of it. But then Bai Xiaochun noticed what was happening, and intentionally changed his behavior, causing those feelings within Bai Xiaochi to fade.
He had assumed that perhaps he was mistaken, and that it had all been some strange aspect of Bai Xiaochun's cultivation base. But now, as he looked at Bai Xiaochun standing in front of the valley of clouds, his heart began to pound.
He was sure that he wouldn't make a mistake in this aspect. Although the person he was looking at was clearly not the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, there was something about his aura that was causing even the void to tremble. It was something that Bai Xiaochi was sure… that only his master could do!
For Bai Xiaochi, everything disappeared, including the void, the ruins around him, and everything else. The only thing that remained was that figure standing there like a mountain!
It was the same for the ruins of the Immortal World. They were trembling as though something had awoken which had been dead since the most ancient of times. A soul had returned, born again, prompting everything and everyone to prostrate to… the Immortal Imperator!!
Bai Xiaochun stood there quietly, unmoving, right in front of the valley of swirling black clouds. Eventually, he looked up, and in that moment, he seemed powerful and tall. He could shake heaven and earth, and cause the starry sky to tremble! His aura was one of matchless dignity and splendor, filled with unstoppable energy!!
Even as everything trembled, Bai Xiaochun slowly turned to look at Bai Xiaochi, who was still on the treasured fan.
His facial features were those of Bai Xiaochun, but now, even someone who had only seen him a few times would realize… that this was not Bai Xiaochun!
There was something ancient in his eyes that Bai Xiaochun did not possess, as well as a profound grief. Right now, he seemed like a sovereign, the type of unique being who people would drop to their knees to worship as soon as they laid eyes on him.
"Xiao Chi…." he said softly.
Bai Xiaochi's jaw dropped, and he rushed forward. Dropping to his knees, he said, "Milord!!"
Bai Xiaochun looked at Bai Xiaochi for a long moment, at the tears in his eyes, and at his excited expression. Then, Bai Xiaochun smiled. It was an emotional smile, filled with memories of primeval times. From the glint in his eyes, he was looking around at things that he hadn't been able to gaze upon for countless years.
"Don't cry, Xiao Chi," he said softly, reaching out to tousle the spirit automaton's head like an adult would a child's. More tears began to stream down Bai Xiaochi's face as he inched forward and threw his arms around Bai Xiaochun's leg, worried that if he didn't, his master would vanish.
"You did well. You found a great successor for me…." Although Bai Xiaochun's voice sounded as light and airy as it usually did, there was something profound and ancient to it, something that almost made him seem like an old man.
"I don't exist anymore. The only thing left behind are my memories, and the focus within them…. It won't last for long. And in fact, if I hadn't seen this valley of clouds, it would have faded away naturally in a few years." Bai Xiaochun turned to look back at the valley of black clouds, and the focus in his eyes grew clearer.
"Xiao Chi, wait here for your new master to return…. From now on, please take good care of yourself. And be obedient." Even as Bai Xiaochi wept, Bai Xiaochun looked around at his old home, then turned and headed toward the valley!
As he walked forward, his aura grew stronger and more powerful, causing more pressure to weigh down on the area. Soon, it seemed to surpass the archaean level, and approach that of a sovereign!
As the last bit of will and focus from his memories burned away, he was given a very short window of time in which his energy could soar!
If an archaean were in the area, they wouldn't be able to endure such levels of force, and would instantly be killed in body and soul. As Bai Xiaochun stepped into the valley and made contact with the clouds, that temporary surge of energy caused everything to tremble.
The roiling clouds seemed to contain terrifying powers of corrosion, and yet, they met their match when facing the will of a sovereign. As such, Bai Xiaochun was not harmed at all. He disappeared into the clouds, and Bai Xiaochi looked on, tears in his eyes, staring at the valley.
Inside the clouds, Bai Xiaochun seemed completely calm and unflustered. Driven by tenacious focus, he slowly strode deeper and deeper into the valley.
Everything was quiet, with nothing but roiling mist around him. Sometime later, as he reached the depths of the valley, an enormous shape appeared up ahead.
Soon, it became completely visible; it was an enormous battleship!
Upon catching sight of the ship, his eyes began to glitter brightly. He continued to walk, hurrying forward until he was able to see… a dilapidated ship, stranded amidst sand and stone!
It seemed to have been baptized by the passage of countless years. It was black, with tattered sails, and seemingly so old and ancient that it had surely existed far longer than the Immortal World….
Bai Xiaochun stopped in front of the dilapidated, ancient battleship, his eyes gleaming with understanding. Apparently, he had long since speculated about what mysteries were in this valley, and now, his speculations were being proved true.
"So," he murmured, "the legends are true…." He began to float up into the air, until he was at the same level as the prow of the ship, where he saw someone sitting there cross-legged, back to him!
It was a corpse that had clearly been dead for countless years. The clothing draped on it was tattered by the passage of time, and it was also the origin of the misty clouds that filled the valley.
The moment Bai Xiaochun caught sight of the corpse, he gasped sharply, and his eyes began to glitter brightly. Clearly, this corpse was incredibly old, even older than the ship itself.
In fact… it was a sensation of ancientness that surpassed the entire starry sky!!
Despite being dead, this corpse's aura filled Bai Xiaochun with a sensation of boundless and majestic power that… went beyond the level of a sovereign!
The sensation of death, and the profound pressure, was so intense that it caused the sovereign aura around Bai Xiaochun to begin to crumble.
At the same time, he heard the screams and howls of countless dying people!
Face draining of blood, he forced himself closer toward the corpse, which was when he realized that despite being completely withered, there was a wound in its forehead!
That wound was the true reason for the corpse's death. He… had been killed with a single finger attack!!

Chapter 1246: Be Good Now, Xiao Chi
Not even the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, ensconced as he was in Bai Xiaochun's body, could possibly stand up to the pressure of such a powerful expert, dead as he was.
The Worldly Daoist of the moment was only an expression of focus and will, and Bai Xiaochun himself was only an archaean. Therefore, that focus and will could only unleash a fraction of its original battle prowess.
Furthermore, the Immortal World was now nothing but ruins. Therefore, the Worldly Daoist currently only possessed about twenty percent of his true strength!
"Even if my true self had come here years in the past, I still wouldn't have been able to remain in the presence of this corpse for long… nor could I have touched it!" In fact, he didn't even dare to step onto the ship itself.
If he did, he would most certainly be destroyed in body and soul!
This corpse was so incredibly strong that it defied imagination. It had such an incredible level of power that it was astonishing to think how strong this person must have been when he was alive!
That was what the Worldly Daoist's tenacious will was considering at the moment. Although there were still many things he didn't understand, one thing was for certain: he had settled one suspicion long held in his heart.
The will of death that suffused the corpse allowed him to identify its Dao!
It was the Dao of death, and also… a Dao of apocalyptic extermination!
It was a Dao in which… in the very end, only one person existed, desolate, cold, and selfish to the extreme. It was a Dao in which success meant the destruction of the starry sky, the eradication of all life, and the end of all creation!
As the surrounding corrosive mists ate away at the sovereign will which held Bai Xiaochun in its grip, it was possible to see countless evil ghosts flitting to and fro, just waiting to rip the flesh off of his bones and consume him entirely.
"The Dao of this unknown, supremely powerful entity… is also… the Mortal Renegade's Dao?" The Worldly Daoist's questions were mostly answered after being able to see this corpse, and identify its Dao.
"Years ago, the Mortal Renegade entered this place, and should have died. Instead, he acquired some astonishing good fortune…. It seems… he must have touched the corpse." The sovereign will that surrounded Bai Xiaochun's body was almost gone, which meant that he would soon be exposed to the cloudy mists.
"And yet… who could kill an expert as powerful as this?!" The Worldly Daoist looked down quietly at the corpse for a moment longer, continuing to sense the towering will of death that it emanated. And yet, he could find no further answers. And he also knew… that he never would.
The stream of tenacious focus that had occupied Bai Xiaochun's body was about to slip away into nothing.
At that point, his thoughts would no longer exist. In the past, his divine soul and fleshly body had been killed, and right now, the only thing that had returned was a bit of his mind.
Sighing, he turned and walked away from the ship, and out of the valley and its clouds….
As he left, his voice echoed behind him.
"Mortal Renegade, are you… still you? If you are… then did you become the successor of the corpse in that ship…?
"Why does it seem to me… that the corpse died, but his Dao lived on, and was reborn because of karma?!"
Outside the valley, Bai Xiaochi remained still, staring at the swirling clouds, waiting for the most important person in his existence to appear again. Mixed emotions filled his heart; on the one hand, he wanted to see his old master, the returned Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator. On the other hand, he didn't want to see Bai Xiaochun hurt because of it.
The words the Worldly Daoist had spoken through Bai Xiaochun's mouth moments ago had softened his heart, but at the same time, had caused profound emotions to rise up in him.
He didn't have to wait for long before a figure strode out of the clouds. At first, Bai Xiaochi couldn't quite see who it was, causing his heart to pound with anxiety.
But soon, he could see clearly; it was none other than Bai Xiaochun!
"Milord!" Bai Xiaochi exclaimed, hurrying forward, nervous, unsure of whether this person was the Worldly Daoist or not.
Upon emerging from the clouds, his eyes were closed, and he stood there quietly for a long time. Not daring to say anything, Bai Xiaochi simply stood there.
Enough time passed for an incense stick to burn, and the sovereign will began to fade away. Only a tiny bit remained, although it still pulsed with domineering, supreme power!
Winds still swirled through the area, and the void trembled. As far as Bai Xiaochi could remember, the aura he was sensing was exactly the same as that of his former master, the Worldly Daoist!
Before Bai Xiaochi could do anything, Bai Xiaochun's eyes opened. They seemed profoundly ancient, as though they were looking out from countless years into the past. It was almost as if he had been reborn!
Also within that ancientness was grief for the loss of home, family, friends, and loved ones. It was a sorrow abundant in helplessness and confusion.
As of this moment, Bai Xiaochi was absolutely certain that the person in front of him wasn't Bai Xiaochun, but rather, his former master. Excited, he dropped to his knees to kowtow, tears dripping down his nose onto the ground.
Bai Xiaochun's hand reached out to tousle Bai Xiaochi's hair.
"Ah Xiao Chi," he said gently, "crying again, are we?"
When he heard that, Bai Xiaochi started to weep, and crawled forward to hug Bai Xiaochun's leg, just the way a child would his father's.
"Don't cry, Xiao Chi." A warm smile appeared on Bai Xiaochun's face. "You've done great, kid. I know it wasn't easy for you through the years…. But you know, you could do better…. Deep down, this Bai Xiaochun is a simple and honest person. A true warrior, bursting with righteousness. He is imposing, elegant, stately, and far more talented than me. It seems a rare hero has truly arisen, a rarely seen chosen!" Somewhere in the middle of his speech, Bai Xiaochi stopped crying, seemingly a bit startled by the Worldly Daoist's assessment of Bai Xiaochun.
"Milord, this Bai Xiaochun, he–" Before Bai Xiaochi could go one, he was interrupted.
"It's too bad he wasn't alive back in my day, otherwise I probably would never have become a sovereign. However, had he been there at that time, it's highly likely things would have ended differently!" It was possible to see Bai Xiaochun's eyes flickering with reminiscence, and the grief about him was nearly palpable.
Bai Xiaochi had been about to interject, but when he saw that level of sadness, he held back. However, he simply couldn't understand why the Immortal Imperator would have such an impression of Bai Xiaochun. Then he started to wonder if perhaps the Bai Xiaochun he had seen was simply the non-heroic version?
"I have to leave, but before I do, I have one final mission for you…." Taking a deep breath, Bai Xiaochun cast a very serious gaze at Bai Xiaochi.
The spirit automaton's face suddenly grew very earnest, as though he couldn't wait to hear what this new mission was.
"Remember my words: from now on, you must always obey Bai Xiaochun. Don't ever trick him! Listen carefully to everything he has to say, and do everything he asks. Whatever orders he gives you, you must view as importantly as if they came from me. When he asks you to do things, you do them, to the fullest extent possible. When he wants something, you help him get it. Trust him. Come to his aid when others bully him. Being with him is the greatest good fortune you could ever come across, Xiao Chi!
"Also, do your best to make him happy, which will in turn make you happy! Rejoice with him, grieve with him. When he is not happy, join him in his sorrow. Very well, Xiao Chi. This is my last mission to you. Will you accept it!?" By the time he finished speaking, his tone of voice was completely strict and somber.
Bai Xiaochi was somewhat stunned, and if it weren't for the aura that he could clearly sense, he would suspect that these words hadn't actually been uttered by the Worldly Daoist.
Looking at the serious glint in his master's eyes, he gritted his teeth and said, "Yes, sir!"
The serious look on Bai Xiaochun's face vanished, to be replaced by pure warmth. Once again tousling Bai Xiaochi's hair, he offered a few more parting words of encouragement, then closed his eyes. Bai Xiaochi looked on, heart twinging with pain as he knew that this would be the last time he ever saw his master.
After Bai Xiaochun closed his eyes, the tension built for a moment, only to be broken when Bai Xiaochun opened his eyes again.
Seemingly a bit worried about Bai Xiaochi's sincerity, he said, "Although I'm leaving, I'll come back occasionally to look over you…."
As Bai Xiaochi looked on, stunned, Bai Xiaochun cleared his throat and closed his eyes again….

Chapter 1247: Overacting
Bai Xiaochi looked a bit suspicious and hesitant. He was absolutely certain that he had sensed the aura of his former master, the Worldly Daoist. But the words he had heard just now seemed exactly like something the shameless and fraudulent Bai Xiaochun would love to say….
The Worldly Daoist had been one of the most powerful sovereigns in existence. How could he possibly say such mind-numbingly shocking things?
But because of that aura, Bai Xiaochi had no way of telling for sure.
As Bai Xiaochi looked on hesitantly, Bai Xiaochun stood there, his eyes closed and expression somber, feeling very pleased with himself. Although the Worldly Daoist's tenacious will had taken over his body temporarily, he had remained conscious the entire time, viewing everything as though via an out-of-body experience. At first, he had been quite shocked, especially by Bai Xiaochi's tears. At that time, Bai Xiaochun had snorted in his heart, but paid little attention. He had been more focused on the fear of seeing himself walk into those clouds, and then seeing that lonely-looking ship, and the corpse upon it. Bai Xiaochun had sensed everything that the Worldly Daoist had been able to sense.
All of it had caused him to wail with inward grief and fear; the mists in that valley were simply too dangerous, and had slowly been wearing away at the protective will that surrounded his body. Only after walking out of the mists did the Worldly Daoist's tenacious will eventually fade away.
From that point on, there was no way for the Worldly Daoist to influence Bai Xiaochun in any way. In the end, it was actually good fortune for Bai Xiaochun. Although the Worldly Daoist's tenacious will was only with him for a short time, it left behind some of his aura. And Bai Xiaochun could control that aura at will. In some ways, he… had actually become the Worldly Daoist!
Although he didn't have his battle prowess, he could definitely use that aura to strike fear into the hearts of others.
Even as he realized that, he saw Bai Xiaochi in front of him, looking very torn. Then he thought about Bai Xiaochi throwing his arms around the Worldly Daoist's legs. It was something he had never experienced before, and therefore, he pretended to be the Worldly Daoist. His ruse startled Bai Xiaochi… but seemed to work perfectly. Hopefully, it would ensure that in the future, it was easier to keep the spirit automaton under control….
Bai Xiaochun was definitely feeling wonderful about how everything had played out, especially considering that he had been able to emerge from the valley unscathed. Now that he was sure he was safe, he kept his eyes closed for a while longer, then opened them.
In order to make the act more realistic, he shrieked, and looked around in alarm.
"What happened?!?! Dammit, why am I standing right here?! I feel like I just fell asleep, then woke up, and can't remember anything from before!" Face ashen, and eyes filled with horror, he flew at top speed back to the treasured fan.
Bai Xiaochi was actually more suspicious now than before, but had no way to uncover the truth. Therefore, he simply sighed, resigned himself to fate, and followed Bai Xiaochun back to the fan.
Apparently, Bai Xiaochun was worried that he had overacted a bit, which was always one of his weaknesses. Back at the fan, he looked solemnly at Bai Xiaochi, and asked him all sorts of questions about what had occurred after he 'went unconscious'.
Before, Bai Xiaochi would never have told him the truth, or at least, would not have gone into much detail. Unless Bai Xiaochun resorted to threatening him with the name-changing tactic, then he would never have wasted his time.
But now, the final mission given to him by his master was still on his mind. Therefore, he explained everything, and then gave his own interpretation of the final words of the Immortal Imperator.
"The Worldly Daoist bore you no ill will. In fact, as his tenacious will was fading away, he even praised you." Bai Xiaochi seemed worried that Bai Xiaochun might be angry at the Worldly Daoist, and therefore, prepared to offer some advice about the situation.
And yet, to his surprise, Bai Xiaochun shivered, waved his hand, and interrupted, "There's no need to say it. The Worldly Daoist is basically my own Master! Without him, I would have perished. And I would never have reached the Archaean Realm!
"If he wants to use my body, he can do it any time. I'd go through hell and high water for the old man! If the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, speaks, then I, Bai Xiaochun, wouldn't even bat an eyelid in response!
"I'm the type of person who knows the difference between gratitude and grudges! And I'm going to remember what he did for me for the rest of my life!" He sounded completely awe-inspiring and righteous, as if he were speaking from the bottom of his heart, with complete and utter sincerity. In response, Bai Xiaochi was visibly moved, and suddenly felt profound respect for Bai Xiaochun.
"Milord!" Bai Xiaochi was simply too naïve, and immediately thought back to all of the things the Worldly Daoist had said about Bai Xiaochun. At that point, he decided that the Worldly Daoist must have affected Bai Xiaochun on a profound level. After all, the Bai Xiaochun of this moment seemed to perfectly match the Worldly Daoist's earlier description.
Excited, he told himself that he definitely had to do just as the Worldly Daoist had bid him, and do everything he could to take care of Bai Xiaochun.
Filled with enthusiasm, he immediately took control of the treasured fan and, just as Bai Xiaochun had ordered earlier, pushed it out into the void with all the power and speed he could muster.
An encouraging smile could be seen on Bai Xiaochun's face as all of this happened. Feeling very pleased with how much more awesome he was than before, he sat down cross-legged. As of this moment, he had an archaean cultivation base, and yet, his primary goals had not changed.
He still wanted to conjure thirty-colored flame!
He had reached another bottleneck with twenty-nine-colored flame, a bottleneck that required a higher cultivation base. Now that he was in the Archaean Realm, he focused completely on the formula for twenty-nine-colored flame, and began to perform various auguries and calculations. Now that he could back that with the divine sense of an archaean, everything went far faster and more efficiently than before.
It didn't take long to make some necessary adjustments to the formula, whereupon he flicked his sleeve and produced a huge quantity of souls.
Back when he was a celestial, his failures had been partly due to the difficulty of the formula, and partly because his cultivation base couldn't sustain the effort. But now, he had resolved all of the problems. His conjuring efforts went unprecedentedly smoothly. A short month later, just as the fan was flying out of the ruins of the Immortal World, a dazzlingly bright light appeared, which was… a twenty-nine-colored flame!!
"So close. Now all I need… is thirty-colored flame!" After feeding the twenty-nine-colored flame into Bai Hao's mark on the back of his hand, it was to his delight that he could sense Bai Hao's life force thrumming with activity. It was as if there were only a slight barrier that needed to be broken through to resurrect him!!
Excited, he was just about to keep pressing forward to try to conjure a thirty-colored flame all in one session, when suddenly his expression flickered. Turning to look out into the void, he waved his finger!
In response, a certain area off in the distance began to sink down as the powers of gravity were unleashed. Time seemed to distort, much to the shock of Bai Xiaochi. But then, even as Bai Xiaochi realized what must be happening, he pushed the fan forward with greater speed. Meanwhile, dozens of beams of Archaean Luminescence shot out into the void.
"Archaean slaves!" Bai Xiaochun shouted, his eyes glittering. His two archaean slaves materialized, then flew off of the fan out into the void!
At around that time, the howl of the old ghost woman echoed out from the spot of distorted time and space!
"Dammit, are you ever going to give up!? I can't believe you set an ambush for me here!" Before, Bai Xiaochun would have been scared out of his mind. But now, he was in the Archaean Realm, and was filled with confidence. Flicking his sleeve, he looked out into the void, battle spirit boiling!

Chapter 1248: Handling The Immortal Imperatrix
"Well, the Immortal World did give me the last bit of its qi flow. And the Worldly Daoist treated me with great kindness…. His Daoist partner died a horrible death. Emotionally and logically, I know I shouldn't be fighting her…." Bai Xiaochun was not the type of person to completely ignore matters of justice. Even though this old ghost woman had attacked him over and over again, and clearly wanted to kill him, he still knew the importance of repaying kindnesses.
Taking a deep breath, he suppressed his desire to do battle, and ordered his archaean slave to stop moving. He also forced the ten beams of Archaean Luminescence to pause before they could reach the area of suppressed time and space. Then, he pondered what he could do to stop the woman from trying to chase him down and kill him. Before he could put much thought into the matter, the void seemed to be shattered by the increasingly intense cries of the old ghost woman.
Finally, she appeared within the region of distorted gravity, blurry at first. However, she quickly turned clear, and began to race toward Bai Xiaochun!
She moved with such incredible speed that, within moments she was only a few hundred meters away from the treasured fan. However, that seemed her limit. She was still tied in place by the gravitational distortion, to the point where she looked long and stretched out.
Bai Xiaochun was initially startled, but when he saw that she was temporarily unable of chasing after him, he cleared his throat, walked to the edge of the fan, and then clasped hands and bowed.
"Honored Immortal Imperatrix, I am your Junior, Bai Xiaochun. I inherited the Dao of the exalted Worldly Daoist, and have the last bit of qi flow from the Immortal World. I know that I offended you in the past, ma'am, but I hope that I can do something to make up for that." Looking very sincere, he yet again clasped hands and bowed.
However, the only response he got was an angered howl. The main difference was that this time, there were sinister words to accompany her shrill cry.
"I want… your soul!" Her words thrummed with murderous intentions, and the most profound of killing intent. Clearly, she wanted to kill Bai Xiaochun, not because of how he had 'stolen' her own subordinates, but because of something special about his soul, something that filled her with greed, and the overwhelming desire to consume him.
When Bai Xiaochun heard her words, his eyes glittered, and he flicked his sleeve. Staring at the old ghost woman, he coolly said, "Senior, are you saying that if I don't give you my soul, you'll keep chasing me forever until you manage to kill me?"
The only response was a quivering howl of rage that caused his zone of time influence to begin to shatter. Clearly, the old ghost woman was about to break free at any moment.
"The Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator, was a bosom buddy of mine. Clearly, the only thing left of you, Immortal Imperatrix, is a tattered, discarnate soul. You have changed, ma'am! You have committed unforgivable crimes!" Without the slightest hesitation, he strode forward, sending his divine sense out and ordering his two archaean slaves to attack immediately. In the blink of an eye, archaean battle prowess was unleashed in devastating fashion.
Even as the rumbling sounds echoed out, Bai Xiaochun released the ten beams of Archaean Luminescence, which glittered dazzlingly as they joined the archaean slaves' attack on the old ghost woman.
In the exact moment that the old ghost woman struggled free, the divine abilities of the archaean slaves, as well as the deadly Archaean Luminescence, pierced through her!
The ghost woman's body immediately began to break apart, and then, it exploded!
As her body fell apart, streams of black flame erupted out, sweeping through the area. At the same time, a sea of flames built up behind her, forming into a beautiful face that was twisted with rage, and filled with boundless madness and animosity.
The face screamed, sending out sound waves that caused the black fire to transform into numerous ghost heads, which shot toward Bai Xiaochun with gaping maws and mountain-toppling, sea-draining power.
Bai Xiaochun merely shook his head. Although the Immortal Imperatrix's powers seemed shocking, and had been so intimidating in the past that he had always fled immediately, now he could sense that they were little to worry about.
"Leave!" he said. "I'll give you one more chance!" However, the Immortal Imperatrix didn't fall back. Instead, she sent more ghost faces flying out of the sea of fire.
Bai Xiaochun's eyes glittered icily, but he didn't personally attack. Instead, he sent some divine sense into the treasured fan, causing the lonely boat therein to vanish and reappear out in the void. There, it turned into a bright beam of light that swirled around the fan, destroying any ghost face which touched it. After destroying countless ghost faces, it changed directions, heading toward the Immortal Imperatrix.
The anger in her eyes grew more intense as she suddenly shattered, transforming into a hoard of white lamps, the power of which began to spread out, altering the natural laws of the void to turn everything it touched into paper!!
The two archaean slaves were influenced, and the lonely boat, despite not being turned into paper, was significantly slowed down. Dodging the boat, the Immortal Imperatrix shot toward the fan, reaching out toward Bai Xiaochun with a clawed ghost hand.
"Enough!" he said, glaring. He had been holding back this entire time, and now, his patience had run thin. In the end, he was not the Worldly Daoist. Besides, after how things were playing out, he was certain that the tenacious will of the Worldly Daoist was no longer there to affect him. If it were, he would already have noticed its influence.
On the one hand, he had hoped to use this situation to test that very aspect, and on the other hand, hadn't wanted to repay kindness with enmity. But now, he had reached the point where he couldn't hold back any longer.
He had made his decision. As the vengeful soul of the Immortal Imperatrix closed in, he stepped forward, blurring into motion. He actually moved so fast that he shot through her, and then appeared behind her. Facial expression the same as ever, he raised his hand toward the howling Immortal Imperatrix, and then softly pushed forward.
That simple motion summoned an enormous vortex around his hand, causing rumbling sounds to echo out as the Immortal Imperatrix's soul was pulled toward him.
Her enormous body began to shrink, causing a shrill scream to escape her lips. As Bai Xiaochun hovered there calmly, his archaean cultivation base erupted with power, clearly enough to shake the discarnate soul of the Immortal Imperatrix!
Unable to fight back against this level of power, the discarnate soul shattered, transforming into a huge cloud of smaller souls that began to flee in all directions.
There were tens of millions of them, obscuring everything in sight, and while some of them lunged on Bai Xiaochun, most just attempted to escape. Furthermore, it was impossible to tell which of them was the actual soul of the Immortal Imperatrix, and which were smaller souls that had been buried within her.
Bai Xiaochun frowned, aware that if the Immortal Imperatrix escaped, then she would likely continue to pester him, and if she chased him all the way to the Eternal Immortal Domains, that could cause further unnecessary complications.
Shaking his head, he closed his eyes, whereupon his aura changed, simultaneously spreading out, filling the area with a supreme aura. It was none other than the aura of the Worldly Daoist!
Bai Xiaochi shivered, and the countless souls in the area lurched to a halt. Trembling, the souls turned to look at Bai Xiaochun as his divine sense locked down onto one particular soul!
It was the soul of a woman. She looked ordinary, but there was a black mark on her forehead. Even as she looked at Bai Xiaochun, he vanished, to reappear right in front of her. Reaching out, he grabbed her and tossed her into his bag of holding.
He knew without a doubt that she… was the Immortal Imperatrix!
He didn't hurt her, he just took her. Afterward, he looked around at the sea of souls surrounding him, his eyes glittering.
"I don't want to hurt the Immortal Imperatrix, but as for the rest of you… you'll be a big help with my flame conjuring. I'll count you lot toward interest." Clearing his throat, he produced a handful of Soul Convergence Pills which he tossed out into the void as he proceeded to harvest souls.

Chapter 1249: All For My Apprentice!
On this extended journey through the void, Bai Xiaochun's only goal was to conjure a tongue of thirty-colored flame, and resurrect his apprentice, Bai Hao!
As the years passed, he conjured more tongues of twenty-nine-colored flame, and at the same time, stabilized his place within the Archaean Realm. Along the way, he drew closer and closer to his goal.
His higher cultivation base ensured that his auguries regarding thirty-colored flame achieved success much more quickly. Combined with all of his previous knowledge and experiences, the formula gradually began to take shape in his mind.
He still had no way to know whether or not thirty colors was the ultimate limit. However, he soon reached the point where his formula was complete.
The next step was to use his accumulation of souls to start the conjuring process. With the successive failures that would result, he would eventually perfect the formula and conjure the flame.
He was no longer worried about having enough souls. After capturing the Immortal Imperatrix, and collecting the seemingly innumerable souls that she had collected, he now had more than enough to go about his work.
Failures with thirty-colored flame could have negative ramifications if they occurred near the Eternal Immortal Domains, and thus, he temporarily chose not to return.
"It won't be long now…." he murmured. Heart pounding with anticipation, he continued his work.
He performed test after test with actual souls, to the point where he failed… dozens of times. Although it was great practice, years and years passed during that time.
As he saw success getting closer and closer, his excitement built. Now that he was an archaean, there were more places within the void that he could actually enter and explore.
He had visited dozens of various ruins throughout the years, although he had simply scanned many smaller areas with divine sense, and not bothered to personally explore them.
One day, he sat cross-legged on the fan, a multi-colored sea of fire swirling in front of him. Suddenly, it winked out of existence, causing a frown to appear on his face.
"Only one last step in the process. But I still keep failing." He was frustrated, but at the same time, aware that his failure might have something to do with how excited he was.
Convinced that this was the case, he closed his eyes and forced himself into a state of calm. After banishing his worries about possible failures, he reached yet another new understanding of thirty-colored flame.
He spent an entire month reaching a state of utter calm. Just when he was about to proceed with another test, his expression flickered, and he looked down at the mark on his hand. Bai Hao's mark was pulsing with fluctuations that seemed to indicate that something existed in the area that was profoundly stimulating.
Surprised, Bai Xiaochun looked out into the void, and then sent his divine sense out to scan the area.
At first, the darkness of the void seemed the same as always. But then….
"Eee?" Bai Xiaochun rose to his feet as, far off in the distance, he caught sight of what appeared to be a candle!!
As he got closer, he saw that it wasn't a candle, but rather, several sources of light, although he couldn't tell what exactly they were…. This was the first light Bai Xiaochun had seen in the void during his entire journey.
The old ghost woman had her lamp, but that was filled with an aura of death. And although the Immortal World had something of a glow, it was nothing like what he was looking at now, a shining light that seemed to represent life force.
It was quite a surprise. After all, his journeys through the void had revealed to him nothing but death. And he also knew that the Mortal Renegade had slaughtered everything in the starry sky, reducing it to what was essentially a massive cemetery.
The Eternal Immortal Domains were the only place in the entire void where life existed, and therefore, it was quite a surprise to see this flickering candlelight.
"Did some other group of people actually survive?" Curious, he sent the treasured fan closer to the sea of light.
Sure enough, he found ruins, in the middle of which was an area that didn't seem damaged at all. In fact, there was a large building there, whose dozens of windows were the source of the light!
However, there was something very strange about the light; it didn't seem particularly bright. And even as he got closer, the intensity of the light didn't seem to change at all.
Bai Xiaochun was immediately suspicious.
He had been to many places in the void, and had seen many strange and unique things. Therefore, as he stood there on the fan, he simply packed away his curiosity and turned the fan to leave.
It didn't matter that he had an archaean cultivation base, his basic personality had not changed. After seeing something suspicious, he had no desire to investigate it. Furthermore, the fluctuations coming from Bai Hao's mark had already calmed down. In the end, Bai Xiaochun knew that he had become very strong, but based on everything he had seen, he also knew that this void was a very boundless and mysterious place.
"In a void like this, it's best to keep one's curiosity in check." Skirting this set of ruins, he sent the fan proceeding along its way, and prepared to continue working on his thirty-colored flame. However, it was at that point that he frowned and looked out into the void ahead with narrowed eyes. There, up ahead, was some light!
And it looked exactly the same as the light from before!
Snorting coldly, he steered the fan around the light, and kept his divine sense spread out to scan the area. However, before long, more light appeared up ahead.
"Well isn't this interesting," he murmured, his expression unsightly. After numerous tests, he came to find that no matter which way he turned, or how he tried to skirt the light, it would always appear in front of him. And every time, it was a bit closer than before.
Eventually, he realized that he could see humanoid shapes moving about on the other side of the windows….
By now, he could tell that these ruins had once been sparsely populated, but had been home to a sovereign. And the circular space that he was apparently caught in was the result of spell formations set up by those people.
He had inadvertently entered the area, and would likely not find it easy to escape. As he thought about the problem, he looked at the shining windows, and could hear the faint sound of laughter and conversation from inside. At one point, one of the windows opened, and a woman appeared, pretty and flirtatious, made up, but clad only in her undergarments. Looking out at Bai Xiaochun, she waved her handkerchief in his direction and beckoned for him to approach.
"Hey, come over here…." she said, her voice traveling through the void and into his ears. At this point, his eyes widened, and he looked the entire building up and down.
"Don't tell me this place is a brothel?" he murmured, blinking. Although he was tempted to go in, he knew that he shouldn't let his curiosity get the best of him. Snorting, he turned the fan to leave. Unfortunately, he soon realized that the only way to escape was through the central node of the spell formation, which was none other than the brothel itself.
Sighing, he realized that he had no other options at his disposal. And considering he was so powerful that even the old ghost woman wasn't a match for him, he decided that there was no harm in indulging in some games.
In that moment, the fluctuations coming from Bai Hao's mark flared, prompting a strange look from Bai Xiaochun. Suddenly, he wondered if his apprentice actually wanted to go into the brothel.
"Hao'er! You've been corrupted!" Clearing his throat, he decided to play it safe, and sent his divine sense out to cover the entire brothel. A while later, he calmed down a bit, convinced that the unique souls inside didn't pose any threat to him.
"Well, let's go check it out. Although I'm not really interested, I might as well do it for my apprentice." Clearing his throat, he summoned his two archaean slave to act as bodyguards, then instructed Bai Xiaochi to be ready to come to his aid at a moment's notice if anything suspicious happened. Then, under the curious gaze of Bai Xiaochi, he swaggered off of the fan and headed toward the brothel.
As he neared, the sound of singing, dancing, and laughing grew louder. Soon, the front doors swung open, and a women dressed like the madam of the brothel appeared, flowers in her hair. Swaying forward, she looked at Bai Xiaochun with glittering eyes.
"Girls!" she said loudly. "We have a customer!"
An entire group of gorgeously dressed women all rushed forward, flirtatious smiles on their faces.
"Welcome! Come in!"
"The girls here will definitely satisfy your every need, sir!"

Chapter 1250: Domineering
Despite having an archaean cultivation base, Bai Xiaochun was still blushing as he found himself surrounded by so many gorgeous women. Clearing his throat, he marveled at how he was willing to throw caution to the wind, all for his apprentice Bai Hao.
"Oh, Hao'er. After feeling those energy fluctuations of yours, Master is willing to do that which he would never, ever be willing to do normally!"
Bai Xiaochun really was impressed with himself. Flicking his sleeve, he announced, "Bring out your best food and your finest wine!"
The madam of the brothel quickly called out some orders. Meanwhile, the women escorted the swaggering Bai Xiaochun into the building.
The inside was alive with dazzling light, and was extravagantly decorated. Even Bai Xiaochun, who had seen many things in his life, was impressed. The tables and chairs were actually crafted from immortal jade, as were the floor tiles. There were also spell formations set up that made the entire place seem like a celestial paradise.
The candles lighting the interior were made from expensive medicinal plant materials. As a grandmaster of the Dao of medicine, Bai Xiaochun could tell with a single sniff that at least seven or eight of those medicinal plants were actually legendary immortal plants of incalculable value.
And yet, there were more than a thousand such candles, leading the shocked Bai Xiaochun to the conclusion that these people were definitely very rich.
Most astonishing of all was that was that, whether it was his divine sense or his physical sight, everything around him was not illusory. In other words… the building, the candles, and the floor tiles were all real!
Shaken, he allowed the flirtatious women to lead him to a seat made of jade, where he sat down, heart pounding. The women sat around him, stroking their hair seductively and chatting in lovely voices as the food and wine was served.
Despite being a powerful monarch, the leader of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, Bai Xiaochun had never experienced pampering like this. Adding in the fact that he was somewhat weary from his lonely travels in the void, and this sudden change of pace was actually very exciting.
After examining his wine glass closely, he laughed heartily and downed the entire glass. Then he began to devour the delicious foods and spirit fruits. The women were obviously playing hard-to-get, and alternated between chatting flirtatiously and shying away bashfully. At one point, a few stepped forward and began to perform a musical number that made the entire scene even more lively than before.
Two handmaidens came to massage Bai Xiaochun's neck and shoulders, and one particularly beautiful woman began to lift his wine cup up for him to drink. As for the madam, she stood off to the side, smiling affably.
The two archaean slaves were also being attended to dutifully by several women. As all the sounds of chatting, laughter, and music mixed together, Bai Xiaochun laughed loudly, and his eyes began to shine with bright light.
Were it not for the fact that Bai Hao's mark continued to pulse, Bai Xiaochun would have simply relaxed and enjoyed himself after his long journeys. However, as time passed, the madam's smile began to grow more and more mysterious. And the eyes of the women, whether the dancers or the musicians, and even the two maidens massaging Bai Xiaochun, began to glow with mysterious light.
Their fingernails began to turn black and grow longer, and their expressions began to turn vicious. Their hair even grew longer. It all happened relatively quickly, as Bai Xiaochun's eyes were closed in relaxation.
Within moments, the madam had completely transformed into a vicious, evil ghost. Eyes flickering with avarice, she leaped into the air toward Bai Xiaochun!
Apparently, her movement was the signal; all of the other women completely transformed into evil ghosts who pounced on either Bai Xiaochun or his two archaean slaves.
Shrill howls filled the air as the music stopped, and the candlelight suddenly turned green and deathly. The ground was also different; the floor tiles were now made from bones, making the entire place seem like a graveyard.
The building itself even seemed to wither up, until it looked like nothing less than a graveyard!
Strangely, the delicious food and wine did not change; somehow, these evil ghosts had actually produced real food and beverages.
As all of these changes happened, and as the women turned into evil ghosts and lunged toward Bai Xiaochun and his archaean slaves, Bai Xiaochun was sitting there, humming a little tune. But then, his eyes snapped open.
"Pipe down!" he said, looking displeased. Waving his sleeve, he sent out a burst of energy that sent the evil ghosts tumbling backward, miserable shrieks echoing out of their mouths, and looks of surprise lighting up their eyes.
The archaean slaves drew on the full power of their cultivation bases, blurring into motion to block both the front entrance and rear exit. Divine sense erupting out, they prevented any of the evil ghosts from fleeing.
Even as the evil ghosts continued to shriek, and those who Bai Xiaochun had already hurt continued to tumble backward, he turned his glare onto the madam.
Her face fell, and she made to flee, but before she could, Bai Xiaochun reached out and grabbed her.
"Change back immediately!" he said with head held high. "Lord Bai doesn't get to see ordinary little ghosts very often. How dare you transform and try to scare me! Hurry up! Enough chatter. Change back and start dancing again!"
For years, he had been afraid of ghosts, and through all that time, had never even thought to imagine that the day would arrive in which he would frighten the ghosts. As far as he was concerned, he was only one step away from being at the ultimate peak of life. However, he still felt as if something were missing, and began to contemplate whether using the soul of the madam to conjure a flame would be the perfect touch. However, it was at that point that the fluctuations coming from Bai Hao grew more intense.
"Eee?" Bai Xiaochun said. After a moment of thought, he pushed the madam's soul toward the mark on the back of his hand. As soon as the two of them touched, the mark erupted with gravitational force, and dragged the screaming madam inside.
After absorbing the madam's soul, fluctuations of satisfaction appeared from Bai Hao's mark, which then faded into calm after a moment. Apparently, it was only the soul of the madam that had been needed; Bai Hao didn't seem to care about the other ghosts at all.
Chuckling, Bai Xiaochun smacked the table.
"I finished my wine. Bring some more!" In response, the evil ghosts all quickly transformed back into gorgeous women, their eyes shining with dread as they looked at Bai Xiaochun. The fact that he had absorbed the soul of the madam was horrifying to them, leaving them trembling in fear. Immediately, they resumed their singing and dancing, and began to serve Bai Xiaochun again.
However, they were so scared that both their dancing and singing was affected. It was the same with the girls massaging his shoulders.
Closing his eyes, Bai Xiaochun reveled in his success. Slowly, the women began to calm down, and hoped that he would leave as quickly as possible….
Of course, there was no way Bai Xiaochun would let them off the hook so easily. He enjoyed his surroundings for a whole day, helping himself to vast portions of delicious food and fine wine. The following evening, he opened his eyes, and realized that it was time to resume his lonely journey through the void.
However, he was in a very good mood. After all, it was rare to find moments of enjoyment like this.
"These women are all souls, but they're definitely unique. It would be a big waste to leave them here. Maybe when I get back to the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, I can have them do a bit of singing and dancing…." Having reached the conclusion that this was definitely the best idea, his heart began to pound. After all, ever since his love letters had been confiscated, he had felt like his bag of holding was missing something.
Eyes shining, he said, "What I've been missing is some good singing and dancing! Yeah, I'll take them with me. Next time I see the Saint-Emperor, I'll show him, and he'll be completely envious!" Convinced that this was definitely the best thing to do, he waved his hand as he rose to his feet.
"From now you, all of you girls are with me!"

Chapter 1251: Thirty-Colored Flame!
With that, a gravitational force erupted out that caused the more than one hundred ghosts in the building to vanish as they were pulled into Bai Xiaochun's bag of holding.
Having accomplished that, Bai Xiaochun's eyes glittered as he went to work clearing out the entire brothel. The floor tiles, chairs, tables, candles, and everything else that could be taken away was soon gone.
In the end, it was nothing more than an empty shell, and Bai Xiaochun's heart was pounding as he thought of the gains he had made.
Of course, he didn't forget the delicious food and fine wine. After scanning the entire area with divine sense, he found that whatever race of people had once existed here had plenty of hidden reserves. Licking his lips, he took it all, and then scanned the surrounding ruins one last time to make sure he hadn't missed anything.
Feeling very pleased, he returned to the fan to find Bai Xiaochi waiting for him, an envious look on his face. Without any further ado, they turned the fan and headed off into the distance. By this point, the brothel's spell formation wasn't working anymore, and therefore, they easily escaped the area.
As the fan flew through the void, and as Bai Xiaochun sat there cross-legged, continuing to work on the formula for thirty-colored flame, court was being held back in the Arch-Emperor Dynasty in the Eternal Immortal Domains!
During times when Bai Xiaochun wasn't present, matters of national concern were handled by Zhou Zimo, Song Junwan, Hou Xiaomei, the Grand Heavenmaster, the Giant Ghost King, Li Qinghou, and Gongsun Wan'er.
Dabao had long since grown up, and acted his part as Bai Xiaochun's heir. He wasn't impulsive and belligerent like he had been when he was young, although his fundamental personality hadn't changed. As far as his cultivation base went, he had made shocking progress, and was already in the Demigod Realm!
In terms of fleshly body, even the Giant Ghost King had to admit that his grandson was probably the toughest person he had ever met, other than Bai Xiaochun.
Xiaoxiao's cultivation base was a bit higher than Dabao's. However, she had spent most her time in recent years in secluded meditation.
With more and more celestials, the Arch-Emperor Dynasty's foundation grew stronger and stronger. However, because it was public knowledge that Bai Xiaochun was in seclusion, rumors began to spread.
The talk wasn't heard in the Arch-Emperor Dynasty, but rather, in the Saint-Emperor Dynasty and Vile-Emperor Dynasty. According to the rumors, Bai Xiaochun actually didn't have archaean-level battle prowess. Instead, he had paid a huge price to come out on top in the conflicts of the past, and as a result, had been forced to spend the time afterward in meditation.
It was true that he had occasionally come back to spend time with Xiaoxiao, Dabao, and the rest of his family. However, most of his time was spent on his research, and his travels in the void. Sometimes, he would only come back once in an entire year, and wouldn't stay for very long when he did.
"The gossip is most abundant in the Vile-Emperor Dynasty," the Grand Heavenmaster said. "There is definitely someone intentionally spreading the rumors. If His Majesty doesn't make a public appearance soon, I fear it will lead to troublesome developments.
"Most important of all is His Majesty's cultivation base…." At the moment, everyone was trying to come up with a plan for what to do next. Bai Xiaochun hadn't visited for several years now, and no one knew about the fact that he was now an archaean. And because he was so determined to succeed with thirty-colored flame as soon as possible, he hadn't taken the time to check in on the situation back home.
Even as everyone in the grand hall frowned and tried to think of good suggestions about what to do, a massive, rumbling boom filled the sky above!
It sounded like heavenly thunder, and it didn't just affect the Arch-Emperor Dynasty. The Saint-Emperor Dynasty and Vile-Emperor Dynasty also experienced the same thing…. All of the Eternal Immortal Domains were filled with the deafening sound!
Massive waves rolled across the Eternal Sea as the entire world shook. At the same time, everyone felt an incredible pressure descending from the heavens!!
"What's going on?!?!"
"Heavens! What… what is that sound!?!?"
Countless people all over the world were thrown into alarm. At the same time, the most powerful experts in the three imperial dynasties flew out into the open and looked up into the sky.
That was the origin of the sound!!
To everyone's shock, the enormous sovereign who had existed for countless years without ever moving… had suddenly moved! His eyes had twitched!!
All of the powerful experts could sense it, and it immediately caused all of their minds to reel!
"The giant moved!!"
"I'm not seeing things, am I? He… he actually twitched!!"
"How could this be? The legends… are actually true!"
The Saint-Emperor and the Vile-Emperor flew out at almost the same time, and hovered above their respective imperial cities. A somber look could be seen in the Saint-Emperor's eyes, whereas a mysterious glow was visible in the Vile-Emperor's.
Even as all of the countless cultivators looked on, hearts pounding with sensations of deadly crisis, the twitching of the enormous sovereign's eyes caused more than a hundred boulders to dislodge from his forehead, and shoot down toward the Eternal Immortal Domains like meteors!
They moved with incredible speed, and even seemed to be self-aware. No matter how quickly the Saint-Emperor and the Vile-Emperor reacted, they couldn't block them all!
Massive booms echoed out from the ground below from the impacts of those that made it through!
Without the slightest hesitation, the Saint-Emperor issued orders to his people.
"All celestials and all demigods will immediately search the Saint-Emperor Dynasty for those fallen rocks. If any of them seem to be alive, destroy them!"
Similar orders were passed down in the Vile-Emperor Dynasty, except that instead of ordering any living things to be destroyed, they were to be collected.
Soon, both of the dynasties were fully mobilized. Even the sea areas were not overlooked.
Bai Xiaochun was not present, but the Grand Heavenmaster and other leaders of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty made the same decision as the others, sending celestials and demigods out to search!
Meanwhile, Bai Xiaochun was back on his treasured fan, expression somber as he focused on a bit of fire taking shape in front of him. The transformations occurring within this fire were different than in twenty-nine-colored flame. It was impossible to see the colors within the flame, as though all of the colors had combined together, making the fire transparent!
Bai Xiaochun had already completed the main outline of the formula, and with every test he did, he inched closer to completion.
Even still, after all of the failures, Bai Xiaochun was starting to come to the conclusion… that success was not a foregone conclusion. He was perfectly prepared, and completely qualified in terms of experience. And yet, every time he tried, there was still a high chance of failure.
"Does concocting thirty-colored flame all come down to luck…?" he murmured. He had already failed dozens of times, something that would drive most people to despair. After all, every failure involved a huge wastage of souls.
Even with the massive stockpile he had built up, it was still a shocking loss. Based on his calculations, he only had enough for about twenty more tries, after which he would be out of souls.
During his years traveling in the void, he hadn't collected all of the souls there were to be had, but had definitely acquired a good portion. Whatever scattered souls that still remained in random locations would be very troublesome to track down.
"I have to make this work!" Sighing, he continued to work hard. A few days later, intense rumblings sounds erupted out, and an unsightly expression appeared on Bai Xiaochun's face. After sitting there in a bit of a daze for a while, he started working again….
Thus, the days marched by. A month later, he had eight more failures under his belt, each one seemingly due to a different reason. He still couldn't figure out exactly what the problem was. Another month passed, and he was starting to form the kernel of an idea about what was going on. His next session of conjuring went very smoothly….
His heart pounded, and he stopped breathing as he focused completely on his task at hand. His mind emptied of everything, as he concentrated completely on… the sea of fire!
An unknown amount of time passed. Eventually, he began to regain his faculties, whereupon he found himself looking at… a dazzling tongue of flame, floating right there in front of him!
"Thirty colors…." Shivering with excitement, he thought back to all of the hard work that had gone into this moment, and what it would be like to resurrect Bai Hao. And then, he started laughing at the top of his lungs!

Chapter 1252: Resurrecting Bai Hao!
Taking a deep, excited breath, he slowly moved the tongue of thirty-colored flame toward the mark on the back of his hand. As he did, Bai Hao's soul began to emit unprecedentedly intense fluctuations.
"Hao'er…." he murmured. And with that, he took the thirty-colored flame that he had worked hard on for many, many years, and expended immense resources and effort to conjure, and placed it onto the mark!
The instant he did, dazzling light erupted out! Years ago, Bai Hao had sacrificed himself to conjure the twenty-two-colored flame that he needed to save Bai Xiaochun from a moment of crisis!
In return, Bai Xiaochun paid an enormous price to resurrect Bai Hao from within the mark that had once been all that remained of him!!
As the light shining off of the mark grew brighter, Bai Xiaochun's nervousness mounted. He stared and stared at it, until finally, the mark rose up off of his hand to float in front of him, and then began to emit soul fluctuations.
The fluctuations grew more intense as the image of a soul began to take shape. Even as Bai Xiaochun looked on, it became Bai Hao!!
"Hao'er…." he breathed excitedly. Bai Hao's eyelids fluttered, and he opened his eyes. Confused at first, his gaze eventually fell onto Bai Xiaochun, and a tremor passed through him.
"Master!"
A wide smile broke out on Bai Xiaochun's face. He had been waiting for many years for this reunion, and the joy caused him to start laughing. Bai Hao's memories were still a bit of a jumble, but when he saw his Master, everything seemed fine, and he grew calm. After all, throughout all the years, his Master had been his only family.
Now that they were back together, everything seemed calm and stable. Gradually, a smile also broke out on Bai Hao's face. Dropping to his knees, he kowtowed three times.
"It's been so long, Master…."
Laughter became warmth, and joy turned into familial love. Eventually, Bai Xiaochun and Bai Hao began to talk, and the words never seemed to end. As Bai Xiaochun bragged, Bai Hao gradually came to understand everything that had happened after he perished. He learned of how the Heavenspan Realm had been destroyed, and learned about the Eternal Immortal Domains. He heard of the glories his Master had achieved, and how a third mighty nation had risen up because of him.
"Oh, right. Your venerable Master is now an archaean! Have you heard of archaeans? There are only three in all of the Eternal Immortal Domains!
"And I'm not just an ordinary archaean. I could easily crush both the Vile-Emperor and the Saint-Emperor."
Off to the side, Bai Hao blinked a few times. However, he knew Bai Xiaochun well, and understood what he liked. Eyes shining reverently, he said, "Master, you've always been unparalleled under heaven. It doesn't matter where you go, you always cause a big scene. I can't even come close to matching you in that regard. I guess I'll have to do my best to improve."
In response to Bai Hao's sincere flattery, Bai Xiaochun laughed. Then he pointed at him and tried to act a bit more serious, although that was difficult.
"Hao'er, one of the things I've always liked about you is that you always tell the truth. Not bad. Not bad at all."
Bai Hao chuckled. As long as his Master was happy, then he was happy. And the mere thought of everything his Master had gone through to resurrect him caused warm feelings to rise up in his heart.
At this point, Bai Xiaochun waved his hand, and was about to launch into some more bragging, when all of a sudden, the enormous tower on the mountain inside of the fan face, the one that housed the Dao Essence of Life and Death, suddenly trembled, and began to emit both black and white light.
Bai Xiaochun's jaw immediately dropped, and off to the side, Bai Xiaochi cried, "The Dao Essence of Life and Death is being absorbed? Heavens! How… how is this possible?!"
Moments ago, the spirit automaton had been sneering at Bai Xiaochun's bragging, but now, he flew directly toward the Daoist Tower of Life and Death. Bai Xiaochun also hurried over, followed by Bai Hao, both of them looking very serious.
Upon entering the face of the fan, Bai Xiaochun sent his divine sense into the tower, where he saw Song Que's corpse floating in the air!
Two streams of mist that were formed from the Dao Essence of Life and Death had wrapped around him, and were slowly feeding into his body!!
"He… he… he actually got it to work?" Bai Xiaochi blurted. "No way! That doesn't make sense…." Suddenly realizing he was speaking aloud, he gasped and looked over at Bai Xiaochun. Upon realizing that he was completely focused on Song Que, he breathed a sigh of relief.
The truth was that the chances of success were far, far lower than Bai Xiaochi had indicated years ago. After all, this tower had only been in the initial stages of research by the Worldly Daoist. However, now, his theories were proven true!
"Song Que…." Bai Xiaochun murmured. Although Song Que still had a profound aura of death, he looked different now, and was clearly turning around from the depths of nonexistence!
Without a doubt, Song Que was fusing with the Dao Essence of Life and Death, and if he succeeded, then it was highly likely he would come back to life. Furthermore, his cultivation base would probably be different, although it was impossible to say exactly how. Unfortunately, Bai Xiaochun had no way to determine the details. As for Bai Xiaochi, after he recovered from his initial shock, and realized what Bai Xiaochun was thinking, he quickly provided further input.
"Milord, this Fellow Daoist could very well fuse with the Dao Essence itself. Although he can't get the approval of any world, and thus won't be able to become a true sovereign, he will be as powerful as you can get without reaching that level. He will be in the quasi-Sovereign Realm!
"However, whether the fusion process goes quickly or slowly will depend on his own good fortune. After all, something like this has never happened before." Bai Xiaochi looked over at Song Que, mixed emotions on his face. The Dao Essence of Life and Death was the Dao of the Worldly Daoist, Immortal Imperator. If Song Que succeeded in the fusion process, then in some ways, he would be the true successor of the core Daoist teachings and doctrines of the Worldly Daoist.
After hearing Bai Xiaochi's explanation, and taking a moment to closely examine Song Que, Bai Xiaochun's heart leapt with joy. It could be said that Bai Hao had saved Bai Xiaochun's life, but Song Que had saved the lives of his Daoist partners and unborn children. It was a kindness that Bai Xiaochun would never be able to forget.
Eyes shining, he sighed, clasped hands, and bowed to Song Que. Then he turned and left.
In that very moment, the three imperial dynasties back in the Eternal Immortal Domains were in the process of hunting down the fallen chunks of stone, and either capturing the living things they found, or destroying them.
However, things were not going well. The stones were infected with a sovereign aura, and caused the areas where they landed to rot away. If they were found quickly, the effects could be combated to some extent. Unfortunately, some areas required that a celestial intervene.
A month passed, and although many of the stones had been tracked down, all of them were completely solid. Almost none seemed to contain flesh and blood clones of the sovereign above. In fact, so far, only one stone had appeared with a clone in it, and that was in the Saint-Emperor Dynasty.
In one location near the border of the Arch-Emperor Dynasty and the Vile-Emperor Dynasty, the Giant Ghost King was flying through the air. As a celestial, he had already taken care of seven fallen stones, all of which he had either crushed or collected. Right now, he was heading to an area where one of his demigod subordinates had discovered another fallen stone.
Thankfully, it was a remote wilderness area where no one lived. Therefore, the effects of the spreading rot were not very detrimental. Furthermore, the Giant Ghost King's celestial cultivation base was capable of negating the effects of the rot. As he flew along, the location of the stone itself got closer and closer.
"After dealing with this stone, I'll head back to the city," he thought, sighing. "I'm afraid there are going to be a lot of ramifications to this event."

Chapter 1253: The Return!
The Giant Ghost King's trajectory brought him closer to the border of the Vile-Emperor Dynasty with every moment. Eventually, he found himself outside of a wide basin in the lands.
It wasn't particularly large, but the ground in the area was all scorched black, with wisps of black smoke rising up everywhere. In the middle of the basin was a chunk of stone.
It was about the size of a fist, and pulsed with strange, dim light. In fact, the stone itself seemed to shift in size and shape according to some strange pattern. It almost looked like a heartbeat.
Eight demigods from the Arch-Emperor Dynasty already had the area locked down, but they weren't strong enough to deal with the corrosive powers coming from the stone, and thus, hadn't approached it. After reporting the matter, they had simply waited for the Giant Ghost King to arrive.
When they saw him nearing, they immediately rose to their feet and offered formal greetings. The Giant Ghost King waved his hand in response, and without saying anything, flew right into the basin.
The pulses of corrosive power could melt a demigod on the spot, but would not harm a celestial in the short term. However, the Giant Ghost King did begin to pulse with black smoke.
Aware that the effects could be detrimental if he allowed them to continue for too long, he hurried up to the stone, then reached out and grabbed it. Just as he had with several other stones that he had handled, he scanned it with divine sense at the same time.
As he did, his expression flickered, and his eyes went wide.
"It's not solid!!" To his shock, his divine sense had revealed something inside of the stone that resembled an unborn lizard!
Even as the Giant Ghost King scanned it with divine sense, the thing wriggled!
At first, the Giant Ghost King was excited to have found something different from the other stones he had encountered so far. Aware of how valuable this item was, he immediately turned to head toward Arch-Emperor City.
However, in that very instant, a cold snort echoed out from the sky, which transformed the entire area into a sea of flames!
The black fire moved too quickly for the demigods to avoid, and they screamed as they were overwhelmed and transformed into ash.
"Vile-Emperor!!" the Giant Ghost King growled. He had watched Bai Xiaochun fighting the Vile-Emperor, and over the years, had conferred with Gongsun Wan'er about him. As such, as soon as his senses told him the Vile-Emperor was present, he immediately sent a warning message to Arch-Emperor City.
Unfortunately, the sea of flames moved so quickly that within moments, it was like an enormous hand, wrapping around the Giant Ghost King. No matter how he tried to fight back or flee, his cultivation base was simply too low. Therefore, the hand wrapped around him and dragged him forcibly up into the sky.
There, the Vile-Emperor hovered, clad in imperial robes, his hands clasped behind his back and his face completely expressionless. Ignoring the hand of flames, he focused on the stone, which he grabbed and looked at closely. Shockingly, he then absorbed the stone into his hand, whereupon his eyes shone with bizarre light, and his aura increased in power by a significant portion.
Still within the hand of flames was the Giant Ghost King, blood oozing out of his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. He was so badly injured that he was now unconscious. Eventually, the Vile-Emperor looked at him, then turned his gaze in the direction of Arch-Emperor City. Eyes narrowing, he coolly murmured, "Many years have passed, Bai Xiaochun. Do you really possess archaean battle prowess…?"
Considering how much time had passed without Bai Xiaochun actually doing anything, both he and the Saint-Emperor were having a hard time determining the truth of matters.
In the past, Bai Xiaochun had relied on Archaean Luminescence. But in the years that had passed, the Vile-Emperor had patiently worked on a way to negate its effects. And now, convinced that great matters were at hand, he was itching to see exactly what was going on with Bai Xiaochun!
Chuckling, he grabbed the Giant Ghost King and then flew away.
Soon after, a Dharmic decree was sent from Vile-Emperor all the way to Arch-Emperor City. The contents were not vague: the Giant Ghost King had trespassed on Vile-Emperor Dynasty territory, and attempted to steal a meteorite. For his crime, the Vile-Emperor had captured him to be punished.
The Dharmic decree was a clear message to all of the Eternal Immortal Domains that the Vile-Emperor wanted Bai Xiaochun to go to Vile-Emperor City to free the Giant Ghost King!
It was impossible to hide the fact that he wanted to probe Bai Xiaochun, and it caused even the Saint-Emperor's eyes to narrow. On the one hand, he and Bai Xiaochun had formed an alliance, but on the other hand, he had long suspected that Bai Xiaochun's true battle prowess was weaker than he had initially taken it to be. Therefore, this little test by the Vile-Emperor was actually a good thing for him.
"Some probing won't hurt me, but if Bai Xiaochun perishes, that will have negative ramifications." Therefore, the Saint-Emperor decided to monitor the situation closely, and prepare to intervene if necessary.
Three days passed, and no response came from Arch-Emperor City. The Vile-Emperor's suspicions deepened, as did the suspicions of his people. Meanwhile, the important figures in Arch-Emperor City began to get nervous, people like Zhou Zimo and the Grand Heavenmaster. They all knew that the Vile-Emperor was testing out Bai Xiaochun, and that if he didn't make an appearance, that it would reveal their weak state of power. And if Bai Xiaochun was truly weak, or they waited too long to do something, the Giant Ghost King would likely be in grave danger!
At that point, Song Junwan, Zhou Zimo and Hou Xiaomei went to Bai Xiaochun's secluded meditation facilities, joined by the Grand Heavenmaster and Gongsun Wan'er. Together, they sent out divine sense in the hopes of awakening Bai Xiaochun from his meditative trance. However, their divine sense got no reaction.
Even as their anxiety began to mount, the door to the chamber swung open, and Bai Xiaochun appeared. However, everyone could immediately tell that he was partially transparent, and was obviously a clone.
Before any of them could say anything, he said, "I'm aware of what's happening. My true self is already on his way."
Then, he suddenly began to shine with bright light!
Everyone, from the Grand Heavenmaster to Gongsun Wan'er, were shaken by that light, which was blinding even to celestials!
As the light grew brighter, everyone present shivered down to their souls, the result of a powerful aura that caused their minds to reel.
Before long, the light began to converge into the shape of a person. It was almost like a teleportation as Bai Xiaochun's true self materialized in the exact spot as his clone!
As he became clear, they realized that he looked different. His hair was a bit longer, and he actually looked younger. However, there was something profound about his eyes, as though they contained stars, and at the same time, were black holes that could drag anything and everything into them.
His eyes left everyone shaken, regardless of the level of their cultivation bases, including even Gongsun Wan'er, who was in the late Celestial Realm. Back during his journey through the void, he would usually keep his aura out in the open, and although he had already retracted it, his clone had made him aware of what the Vile-Emperor had done to the Giant Ghost King. And thus, rage burned in his heart, and some of his aura managed to slip out, leading to shock among those present.
The shaken Grand Heavenmaster was the first to recover. Clasping hands, he bowed to Bai Xiaochun.
"Greetings, Arch-Emperor!"
Everyone else followed suit, including Song Junwan, Zhou Zimo, and Hou Xiaomei. "Greetings, Arch-Emperor!!"
"I'll take care of everything," he said, his eyes warm. "Don't worry!"
Zhou Zimo, Song Junwan and Hou Xiaomei all seemed to relax visibly, confident that he could resolve any difficulties.
It had been a long time since the last time they had reunited, so he took time to embrace all three of his wives. Song Junwan was smiling warmly, and Hou Xiaomei's belly was already visibly large. However, the both of them knew that Zhou Zimo had taken her father's kidnapping worse than the two of them, and secretly indicated that he should offer her some comfort. When he turned his gaze to her specifically, he could see how red her eyes were.
"I'm going to go get father-in-law back," he said softly, "and also make the Vile-Emperor Dynasty pay for this. After I return, I won't be going into secluded meditation for a while." With that, he blurred into motion, shooting high up into the sky!

Chapter 1254: You Wanna See?
Bai Xiaochun had returned right into the middle of a tense situation. The matter with the Giant Ghost King had occurred without any warning, and if matters had been left only to the clone he left behind, then it was impossible to say what could have happened.
Thankfully, Bai Xiaochun had finally finished several important tasks. Bai Hao had been resurrected, Song Que was showing signs of waking up, and Bai Xiaochun's cultivation base was now in the Archaean Realm.
His fight with the old ghost woman, and his regular sparring sessions with his two archaean slaves, had pushed his battle prowess to the point where he was now much more confident than before.
If his enemy were not the Vile-Emperor, Bai Xiaochun would have simply attacked like lightning, crushed him, and taken the Giant Ghost King back. But he had learned years ago that this Vile-Emperor was an imposter, and considering what he had learned from the memories of the Worldly Daoist, he had long since come to a conclusion about the matter.
"This imposter Vile-Emperor definitely has something to do with the Mortal Renegade, Devil Imperator!" As Bai Xiaochun whistled through the air, his eyes were narrowed with thought, but soon, they would be bursting with killing intent!
It didn't matter what techniques the Vile-Emperor had up his sleeve, Bai Xiaochun knew that at this moment, he had no other choice than to fight. Otherwise, the Giant Ghost King would be in peril. And besides, the Vile-Emperor would never stop probing him.
Bai Xiaochun remembered how, back when his children had been born, the Vile-Emperor had given him a gift in the form of some sovereign blood, encased in a black stone. The sense of danger he had experienced from that stone had enraged him back then, but he had been forced to do nothing.
Now, new grudges piled on top of old ones, causing his killing intent to grow even stronger. Rumbling sounds echoed around him as he left Arch-Emperor Dynasty territory and entered the lands of the Vile-Emperor Dynasty. Considering the speed he was capable of, it didn't take long before he saw an enormous trident rising up into the sky ahead of him, around which was wrapped a bone dragon! On the skull of that dragon was none other than the imperial palace!
"Vile-Emperor!!" he growled, his voice echoing like heavenly thunder.
Everything shook in response to his words, and all of the cultivators in Vile-Emperor City, even the celestials, looked up in shock.
"It's the Arch-Emperor!!" Everyone in the city knew that the Vile-Emperor had taken the Giant Ghost King captive, and were also aware of his Dharmic decree, demanding that the Arch-Emperor Bai Xiaochun come to free his subordinate. Although some of them were slightly worried about what might happen, most of them were excited, and were convinced that Bai Xiaochun was no match for their Vile-Emperor.
After all, it was only by teaming up with the Saint-Emperor that Bai Xiaochun had managed to fight the Vile-Emperor to a standstill years before.
This time, the Vile-Emperor had dared to take the initiative, and therefore, everyone assumed that he was well prepared. However, all such confidence began to crumble as soon as people heard Bai Xiaochun's booming voice.
As the city trembled physically, black smoke erupted from a certain location within the imperial palace, rising up into the sky to take the shape of a huge face.
"Bai Xiaochun!" the face said, its voice thrumming with an awe-inspiring force that was the perfect countermeasure to Bai Xiaochun.
Anyone else would have been forced to slow down, but not Bai Xiaochun. Eyes flashing with cold light, he said, "Where'd you get guts like that, Vile-Emperor? If you want to back out on our agreement, fine, but how dare you kidnap my father-in-law!"
He waved his hand, and instantly, eight beams of Archaean Luminescence appeared up above and shot toward the Vile-Emperor's projected face.
They didn't mince words. Bai Xiaochun had come to fight, a fact which was revealed by how he instantly called on his Archaean Luminescence. In response, the Vile-Emperor's eyes shone with mysterious light, and a snide smile appeared on his face.
"Is that the only thing you can do, Bai Xiaochun?" The enormous face distorted as nine bright lights appeared within the smoke. Closer inspection revealed that the lights were nine huge crystals, which sent tendrils out to connect to each other, quickly becoming an enormous black mirror.
The mirror formed almost as soon as the Archaean Luminescence arrived. However, the booming explosion everyone anticipated didn't occur. Strangely, the mirror acted like a mass of sludge, which simply swallowed up the Archaean Luminescence!!
"If that's all you've got," the Vile-Emperor said coolly, "then… I have to say I'm very disappointed." He strode out from his palace and floated up into the air, coming to a stop in front of the crystal mirror, his archaean aura raging.
Of course, a big cheer could be heard from within Vile-Emperor City, and numerous cultivators stepped forward and clasped hands in greeting.
Bai Xiaochun didn't say anything in response to seeing the mirror formed from nine crystals. Waving his right hand, he summoned ten more beams of Archaean Luminescence, all of which shot directly toward the Vile-Emperor.
"That won't work," the Vile-Emperor said, keeping his hands clasped behind his back, a faint smile visible on his face. "I already created the perfect counter to your Archaean Luminescence. You won't be able to break my Vile Imperial Crystals!" The illusory mirror suddenly shot forward, passing through him to block all of the shots of Archaean Luminescence.
Rumbling booms could be heard as the Archaean Luminescence faded away, with the mirror remaining behind, seemingly undamaged.
"That's almost twenty, Bai Xiaochun. Do you have any more shots left? I'm very curious to see how many you have in total!" The Vile-Emperor still had not removed his hands from behind his back, and his smile continued to radiate scorn.
Because this Vile-Emperor was connected to the Mortal Renegade in some way, Bai Xiaochun knew that no matter how much he wanted to fight him, he had to be careful. Therefore, he kept his cultivation base well-concealed, making it seem to the Vile-Emperor that he was still a celestial.
Not even the Vile-Emperor's taunts could get him to reveal his true cultivation base. Besides, he had plenty of trump cards to call upon, so unless the Vile-Emperor truly attacked him with force, he would not draw upon the full level of his battle prowess.
"You wanna see? Fine. I'll show you how many shots I have!" Chuckling, he performed an incantation gesture with his right hand and then waved his finger, causing the sky to tremble as more than fifty beams of light appeared!!
Everyone in Vile-Emperor City was shocked by that, and began to cry out in alarm.
"So many!!"
"Heavens! Wasn't everyone saying that the Arch-Emperor only had about twenty shots of his Archaean Luminescence?!?!"
In contrast, the Vile-Emperor didn't seem to be alarmed. Although he was surprised, he was still confident, and simply watched as the fifty beams of Archaean Luminescence shot toward his black mirror. Intense rumbling sounds could then be heard as the light was absorbed by the mirror, which still seemed just as tough and durable as before.
The Vile-Emperor burst out laughing. "So, that's your limit, huh. Well, you–"
However, before he could say anything else, Bai Xiaochun waved his hand again. This time… a hundred beams of light appeared up above!!
It was such a shocking scene that even the Vile-Emperor's eyes went wide, and his mind began to spin. And yet, before anyone could wrap their minds around what was happening, Bai Xiaochun performed another incantation gesture, causing another group of more than one hundred beams to appear!!
In total, there were now 267 beams! And if anyone had been closely counting how many shots he had already used, they would realize that it was a total of 361!!
That was exactly how many playing spots existed on the Go board on the boat in the fan face, and was the true limit of the divine ability. Right now, nearly three hundred beams of Archaean Luminescence were causing all heaven and earth to tremble!! [1]
"Impossible!!" the Vile-Emperor breathed, visibly shaken. It wasn't just him. In the Saint-Emperor Dynasty, the Saint-Emperor was watching the battle play out, and was also completely taken aback.
"You said you wanted to see how much I could do at once, right Vile-Emperor?!" Waving both hands out in front of him, Bai Xiaochun sent nearly three hundred shots of Archaean Luminescence toward the Vile-Emperor like a rain of bright light!
The Vile-Emperor's eyes were completely bloodshot as his black mirror began to expand to its full limit. It did everything in its power to hold firm as one beam of light after another pierced into it. However, it didn't matter how durable and tough the mirror was; it simply couldn't stand up to so much Archaean Luminescence, and soon, cracks were spreading out over its surface.
After it blocked about eighty percent of the incoming shots of Archaean Luminescence, it couldn't hold on any longer, and shattered into countless fragments. As for the nine Vile Imperial Crystals that the Vile-Emperor had toiled so hard to make, and had even used his own life force to forge, they were all destroyed!
As that happened, a deafening boom erupted out, shaking nearly half of the Eternal Immortal Domains!!
It almost looked like doomsday had arrived as a massive shockwave rolled out across the lands, toppling mountains, smashing the lands, and even threatening to cleave apart the sky!
