M is for Mother's Day
Family relationships were complicated for aircraft. They particularly complicated for the airborne members of the Piston Peak Air Attack Team…but not in the ways that most people would assume. Instead of being singular creatures that traveled the world as loners until finding their life mate after they fledged, the members of the Piston Peaks Air Attack Team instead collected 'family' like it was going out of style. With that much 'family,' life was bound to get a little bit challenging. Luckily, it was a challenge that Cabbie was more than willing to solve by flying the whichever smokejumpers that were starting to feel a bit stir crazy to the closest dollar store, giving them a strict budget, and then setting the little vehicles loose to shop their hearts out.
"Cabbie, did you really have to pick out a bright pink card for Dynamite." Blade stared down at the monstrosity sitting place in front of him. "I mean, this thing is hideous."
Cabbie just gave a shrug. "You try to go shopping via radio with Drip and see if you get any better results."
Blade actually raised an eyebrow and paused as though he was attempting to come up with a witty remark…but he quickly gave up. "You win."
Cabbie gave a self-satisfied hum, knowing full well that Drip had nearly picked out an identical card for Blade because, and I quote, 'The Chief takes helicopter mothering to the next level.' It was only after Cabbie had reminded the little smokejumper that Mother's Day was an important time for the members of the team to celebrate the women in their lives…and that Father's Day was only a month away…so Drip eventually put the card back on the shelf.
Family relationships were complicated aircraft, but sometimes all a plane had to do was follow the ground pounder's leads and just enjoy the chaos that followed.
