So, this is how its going to go." Jane smiled to herself when she woke up to Maura's alarm the next day. Despite coming home early enough to get a good nights sleep, they had only crawled into the sheets late because they had taken a look at all of the pictures they had taken.

The brunette hadn't had any idea how many pictures one could take in only one weekend and wondered how many it would be on a longer vacation. But she was eager to find out. She stretched her long limbs silently as the doc hit the snooze button.

"I might call in sick." Maura mumbled and turned in surprise when realizing by Janes chuckle that her girlfriend was already wide awake. Jane kissed her good morning and slipped out of bed to make coffee and breakfast for Maura. This would give the blonde a few extra minutes in bed or in the shower.

Janes next flight was scheduled in three days and she already thought about catching up some sleep later on the couch. She generally hated raising early. But the thought of Maura's smile when giving her the coffee and the muesli was reward enough to sneak around the house at this ungodly hour.

Maura looked perfect as ever when she came down the staircase. They exchanged another quick kiss over the mug of steaming coffee and Jane tried to comfort Maura by running her fingers along her lower arm. The blonde gave her a loving smile.

"You should go to bed Jane. Its your day off." Maura said softly, pointing her finger to the darkness outside the window. "It's okay Maur." Jane honestly said laughed when Maura rolled her eyes. I have already rubbed off on her she thought in joy and nudged the doc slightly.

Another reason for Jane's motivation to raise early was that she wanted to spend some time with this beautiful woman. Maybe it would wear out, but right now she was just happy to catch the doc before she had to leave for work.

Maura who seemed to enjoy her company as much as Jane did Mauras made some jokes as she padded off to the breakfast counter. Her mood was much better now although Jane could see that she was still struggling to shake the sleep off herself.

She thought that the blonde was about the cutest person she had ever met in her entire life and smiled while watching Maura eat her muesli. "Are you going to stare at me the whole time or are you going to eat something as well?" Maura feigned to be grumpy.

"I can't help Maur, you are just so cute and beautiful." Jane chuckled and lifted her hands as if to surrender. The blonde blushed slightly. "If you continue like that, I wont be able to summon my courage to leave for work." The doc replied and Jane felt, that for both of them the weekend had passed far too quick.

"I wouldn't mind." She stated still smiling.

"I wouldn't either. But we're grown-ups and we can't just not go to work." Maura said sounding a bit sad.

"Besides what would we do the whole day?" the sad tone turned a bit into a sultry one and Jane literally saw Maura's mind change about going to work.

"I dunno." She shrugged playfully. Maura rolled her eyes in frustration, buying Janes not getting the hint. "Shame. I was almost convinced to stay at home." Maura said and took the empty bowl to the sink.

Jane huffed and pulled the doc into a hug to kiss her slowly and tentatively to make a point. She realized only too late that she had fallen into the trap and that Maura had seen that Jane was trying to fool her. The doc laughed against her lips when they broke the kiss to catch some air.

"I'm going to call at work to tell them that I'm unable to work today." Jane pulled her hand through the blonde strands and kissed the tip of Maura's nose after whispering: "Hurry, I'm going to wait for you in bed."

Maura shook her head and laughed, sure to find Jane already naked in their king size bed when she was done with the call. Jane winked and quickly turned to walk upstairs. Cavanaugh bought her ruse about having the flu and Maura exhaled when hanging up. She had lied and she hated lying. But it was easier to pretend to be sick and lie on the phone than in real. And the reward for her braveness was already waiting upstairs.

A smile split her face as she quickly moved towards the bedroom. To her surprise Jane was still wearing her shorts and t-shirt from the night. And Jane saw a shadow of deceive pass over the docs face when she saw the clothes.

"I thought I'd wait for you." Jane explained and soon felt Maura tugging at her shorts. "We have the whole day." The blonde said excitedly and something else which Jane didn't understand because her t-shirt was being pulled swiftly over her head. She laughed and pulled Maura down onto her body.

Both gave a soft moan when Maura's came to rest between her spread legs, making their centers meet. Their lips met for a hungry kiss.

The couple spent almost the entire day in bed making love and napping in between. Only leaving the covers when needing food or water. If they needed something, they usually played rock, paper, scissor to determine who had to leave their warm cocoon to get the needed goods. Most of the time they ended up going together.

R&I

Maura loved their day together. If she thought about it, she loved everything about her pilot. The rough shell which hid the softness inside the strong woman. The smile always bore the potential to blow her off her feet and the laughter was contagious.

The way Jane held her made her feel safe and harbored without giving her the feeling to be attached or held back. If it came to the physical side Maura couldn't complain either. Jane had the perfect bone structure, only thinking about her strong muscles made Maura wet and the soft skin made her shiver in delight whenever it came in touch with her own.

She realized that she was totally infatuated with this woman. No wonder she had easily given up on her strong work ethics and decided to take a sick day. The first and only one since beginning her career as medical examiner.

Her mind still couldn't stop and relax entirely like Janes. The pilot was spooning her with her face nuzzled into Maura's neck. The doc felt the soft and even breaths which left a slight shiver running down her spine. Would there ever be enough sex or closeness or love Maura wondered? Coming from a place where being alone most of the time she had always felt a craving for touches like these. And Jane seemed to feel her need. The brunette pulled her deeper against her own front with a deep sigh.

Maura knew that she was smiling. She could just feel it, because of their strong connection. Something her brain of a scientist couldn't understand. She was torn between just letting go of trying to figure this out and find an explanation and just accept it.

Jane's smile turned into a soft chuckle and the raspy voice spoke up after leaving a kiss on the neck. "What are you thinking about?" Jane asked. Did Maura find it spooky that the pilot read her like a book? She decided that no because she fully trusted Jane and knew that the brunette would never use anything against her. The pilot wouldn't make fun of her or hurt her.

Maura shifted with a deep sigh wondering how to put her many feelings into understandable words. Another thing her scientists brain had problems with: expressing emotions. Jane was still smiling while patiently waiting for a reply. "I love you." Maura simply said.

"Aaaand?" Jane prompted, knowing exactly that there was more going on in this beautiful brain. "And I wonder if this is real. And if its going to last. No relationship or friendship has ever lasted." Maura felt stupid. She was somehow sure that Jane wouldn't leave her. But she just didn't know after all her experiences.

She was glad when Janes body didn't stiffen behind her. Instead, Jane reached for her hand and locked them onto her stomach. "I'm not familiar with the concept of just living in the moment." Maura admitted, relaxing into the spoon. "Or simply enjoying things. It's probably my brain's fault. It feels the need to constantly check for statistics or facts or things that could go wrong." She heard that she sounded as helpless as she felt.

Jane was silent for a while. "Maur, you know that im not going to leave you. But you know that there is no guarantee. That's why we live in the moment. I know that its hard for you. I just don't know how to help you." Jane sounded a bit helpless too. Maura knew that she was wrecking her brain to find a way to help her. She felt the frustration about not finding a solution and felt guilty for spoiling that moment for Jane. But when she said so, the pilot waved it off.

"We are together. Your worries are mine. And I'm sure that we can work things out. Its important to talk about these things to strengthen the foundation of our relationship. I would hate to think that you keep all these sorrows to yourself because you don't want to hurt or bother me. I want you to feel comfortable."

Maura felt a tear leave the corner of her eye. Never once in her life had somebody tried to understand or help her. Her parents had always told her to be grown-up and get over whatever was bothering her. They had never taken the time to see her and where she was coming from.

Sometimes like in that moment she just felt as if she had to break up with Jane because she couldn't handle the kindness and the emotions. The brunette sighed and moved away. "Come on. Maybe laying around all day isn't good. Let's do something. We could cook us a nice dinner together. But beforehand there's another thing I'd like to do."

Maura turned to see her face. Jane was smiling and wiggling her eyebrows. Curious she followed the pilot out of bed and threw on some yoga pants and one of Janes Red-sox shirts. She had practically stolen it from the brunette who didn't seem to mind.

Instead, her hand was reaching out to Maura and the blonde took it. Their fingers entwined and she followed Jane out of the room and downstairs. They stopped in the hall. Jane took a breath and glanced around. Maura's eyes followed, still curious, not understanding where this was leading to.

"Just look around." Jane softly said as they moved into the living room. "What do you see?" she prompted and Maura licked her lips, feeling like being tested and panicking when not knowing what the right answer was.

"I don't know." She mumbled and Jane laughed.

"Okaaayyy. Well, I see a lot of things. I see your African masks hanging next to my hockey bats. I see the book I'm currently reading on top of your medical journals. I see how our lives mix together easily." Then she tugged on Maura's hand and led it to the office. "I see your desk neat and clean, I see my desk in a total mess."

The doc followed her descriptions and nodded. "Yes. What's the point?" she was becoming impatient. She knew all that. Where was this going?

Jane smiled at her. "This is real Maura. We both are coming from different places, yet we always make it work. Never once did we fight. We make it work. We accept each other's quirks. This is our life now. We chose it. And I assume that you like me took some time to think about before taking the step. You probably more than me, because I'm a gut person and you a brain person." She stopped to chuckle softly while Maura took in the information. It was real. This was their live they had chosen.

Something settled deep inside of Maura. As if seeing those things made her feel safe and comfortable. It was difficult to describe. So far, all the things like masks or furniture had been there out of necessity or for decoration. But she realized how she had never seen more in the house than a place to live. Her eyes opened wide, and she began to feel with her heart. Take in the vibes, the light, the everything. Taking a deep breath, she turned to Jane who smiled softly.

Jane had found a solution she thought in awe. She was trying to make her see the world the way she did. And it worked. It would take some training, but they would get there if Jane kept patient. Maura was happy. She closed her eyes and reveled in the chuckle that came from her girlfriend and accepted the arms which closed around her waist from behind.
