Even nine years after it happened, this day is still hard for Emily. Lucky for her, her mom is there for her. I feel like this one is cheating, because it revolves more around Emily missing her father, but her mom has an important role in it.
Emily laid on her bed, holding a picture of her from when she was five. She ran a hand over the picture and felt tears run down her face.
"I miss you, Papa."
She put the picture in her nightstand and rolled over to her side. She felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Mija, why don't you come downstairs." Emily's mom said.
"Mom, if it's a Quinceanera, I'm not interested." Emily said.
"I know your birthday is hard for you, but you shouldn't hide from the world." She sat next to Emily, "I have something for you. Just come down when you're ready."
Her mom left and closed the door. Emily thought about it for a minute before sitting up. She got out of bed and started to walk down the stairs. She found her mom on the couch, with a small box in her hands. Her mom looked at her and handed her the box.
"I know it's not a big party like Luz had at the castle, but this is something that your father and I want you to have." She said, "Even before he died, he wanted you to have this on your fifteenth birthday."
Emily opened the box and smiled. She hugged her mom and started crying.
"Thank you."
Even twenty years later, she still remembers that day well. She always remembered that her father died on her birthday, but she completely forgot that she still had a mom that was there for her. Emily sat on her bed and looked at the gift she got for her fifteenth birthday.
"Are you ever going to tell me what that is?" Amelia asked.
"Maybe, maybe not."
Amelia rolled her eyes and laid down on their bed.
"And here I thought marriage was about honesty."
Emily kissed Amelia.
"Well, I'll be honest... I love you."
Emily got up and put her father's dog tags on her dresser, right next to a picture of him in uniform, and a flag in a memorial case. She still missed her dad, she always will, but she will never forget him. She'll never forget that day, it was the day her mom managed to remind her that she's not alone.
Next one! Being the daughter of the most powerful, rich, and influential family on the Boiling Isles might sound fun, but eventually, the expectations start to make you crack.
Azura was sitting at her desk, reading everything about the Boiling Isles laws and history. She has been trying to learn as much as possible for the past week, ever since people started talking about how great her parents are at ruling the Isles, she's started to realize that she was nowhere near as great as her parents were. By the time they were fourteen, they've taken down a dictator, stopped a terrorist group, and managed to change how the Isles magic laws worked, and they weren't even in power yet.
"Azura?"
Azura looked behind her and saw Amity, holding Alexander.
"H-h-hi, Mom."
"Azura, what's going on?" Amity asked, "You look... what are you doing?"
"I..."
Azura just looked away.
"Ok, listen, I'm going to put Alex down for a nap, when I come back, I want to know what's going on."
Amity left and when she returned, she noticed Azura crying. She immediately ran and hugged her.
"Azura, what's wrong? You're crying, your hair is a mess, and you look like you haven't slept in four days."
"Six days, actually." Azura said.
Azura immediately hugged her mom and cried into her chest.
"I'm sorry, Mom! I'm never going to be as good as you and Mami!"
"Azura, what are you talking about?"
"You two have done so much, I'll never be able be like you and Mami!"
Amity cupped Azura's cheeks and used her thumbs to wipe away the tears.
"Azura, you don't need to be like your mom and I in order to be a great Emperor. You just need to do what's best for the Isles, that's all. We'll be proud of you no matter what."
"R-r-really?"
Amity kissed Azura's forehead and smiled.
"Of course. You are going to do great things. We believe in you." Amity helped Azura over to her bed, "Now, go to sleep. You clearly need some."
Amity tucked Azura in and kissed her cheek. Azura's eyes quickly closed and Amity walked to the door, looking at Azura one more time.
"Sleep well, my Little Otter."
