Chapter 40-
Peter's POV-
"So, what's the plan?" Garrett asked as soon as Jasper and Bella were out of our sight, having left to find and kill that burden on the earth- Stefan, the rest of us here waiting behind, my gift having ensured me that this was what was needed… that this was the correct thing to do in the situation.
I turned to look at him, shrugging. "I don't know."
"Are you kidding me?" Kate scoffed, the spitfire that she was having come out to play. "Did you just say that you don't know of why you asked us to wait behind? I did have an interest in killing Stefan, I will let you know, and now because of you and your absolute stupidity…."
Yeah, she never got to complete that sentence, my mate having pounced on her, attempting to tear her to shreds, loud, angry growls leaving both of their mouths in unison.
Now, while I absolutely love a catfight, what's there not to like?
The biting… the hitting… the hair-pulling… the calling of names… the aggression….
Anyhow, like I was saying, while I have no debatable problem with two women fighting- its their life they can do what they want, and my Char definitely does not need the saving, the fact of the matter was that Maggie looked terrifyingly scandalized, almost on the verge of crying and running somewhere exceptionally far from here.
Yeah, the young age at which she had been changed showed on her face.
Poor her!
To be stuck with someone like Edward Cullen….
Anyhow, for the sake of her sanity, and also because we really did not have much time to waste with us, I pulled Char away from Kate, Garrett doing the same on the other end, separating the two girls, rather reluctantly, I must mention.
"The bitch shocked me." Char growled out, turning to look at me in disbelief.
Kate scoffed in anger. "Like you didn't pounce on me and start the whole damn thing?"
"You insulted my mate!" Char took one step ahead, once again out to rip Kate to shreds, or at least attempt to do so, my hand on her shoulder being the only thing to stop her from doing it.
"Now, now," I pacified the two, the damn things you need to do when you are the most mature and intelligent person in the group.
Sigh!
"We don't really have much time to waste in these immature fights." I waved a hand in air, shrugging heavily.
"Why?" Garrett asked, curious to know my answer. "What is about to happen?"
I sighed. "I don't know everything. My gift just informed me that we needed to be here, without Jas and his mate. My guess is that someone is on their way, and we needed to be here to 'welcome' them." I made the air quotes on welcome to emphasize my point.
Obviously, it wouldn't be the typical story book welcome that people talk about.
This would be more like the 'I dare you to take one more step ahead' welcome.
"Who? The Volturi?" Char questioned, fear visible in her eyes. I wrapped my arms around her, consoling her wordlessly that no matter what happened or who came in front of us, she and I would be alright. That was a guarantee; a promise I had made when I had stood at the altar all those years ago, and a promise I would manage to keep till I exist.
"Is the Volturi on their way?" Kate questioned; her tone subdued briefly. "Are they coming here?"
Garrett took Kate's hand in his, the newly mated couple having spent too less a time with one another, before the shitstorm arrived and pushed them in such an unwanted situation.
"Nah," I sighed. "It is not the Volturi. They are on their way, indeed, but Jas and Bella will be back by the time they arrive." My gift of just knowing shit having already told me of this. Jasper and Bella would be needed her for that very confrontation.
"I am assuming they know?" Garrett stated, a nod of the head being his confirmation.
The Volturi had found out the truth by now, shit ready to hit the fan!
"How did they even find out?" he pointedly demanded. "Who tipped them off?"
Maggie sighed, all eyes turning to look at her. "I know of who informed them that Bella is alive and that Jasper has lied to them. It is Edward, isn't it?"
I shrugged. What was even there to say to that?
It was obvious of how the information had reached them.
It was a given of who the black sheep in the almost family was.
She growled to herself, crushing a stray twig with her hands, her eyes burning with anger and hatred. "I am going to kill him."
I gave her a brief nod of agreement, not affected by her decision in the least. She could completely go ahead and do the honors, just giving us an update once the deed was done, you know, just to have the information.
"But wait," Garrett interrupted, a look of confusion on his face. "If it isn't the Volturi, who is on their way at the moment?"
Wasn't that the question of the hour?
I was about to open my mouth and give him the answer when a loud, shrieky voice entered our range of listening, becoming the answer in itself.
"Where is he? Where is my mate?" the unfortunately familiar voice demanded, the body attached to that voice hardly making any impression. Seriously, who could blame me if I was rather not impressed by the sight of her?
"Where is my mate?" Alice Cullen demanded, stomping at her place, the jerk Edward Cullen trailing behind her with a wide smirk on his face. "I want to see him."
Wait.
What was she doing here?
Who invited her?
Don't answer that.
It is a rhetorical question. Obviously, I know of who invited her- the uninvited guest himself.
"Where is he?" she repeated, glaring at me, threatening me to answer, which was not saying much considering she was literally 4.7 and I was 6.1. Looking up at me was like stretching your neck to the extreme for her, and I almost had to worry for her body posture. It can never be good to strain your neck to this extreme, no matter who you are or what specie you belong to.
I do think about others, occasionally, for the record.
"Um, Alice," I gave her a smile, completely unaffected by her presence, "I have no idea of where your mate is. I pity him, obviously for being hit hard by fate, you might want to try giving him some space, though. He needs it desperately, the poor thing probably traumatized at the moment as he hides from you for his very life."
She growled out at me, the sound sounding like a mouse trying to show his power to a lion.
"I am talking about Jasper, you idiot."
"Oh." I raised an eyebrow in question, playing along, Char simply rolling her eyes in response, knowing better than to ruin my fun.
"I don't know of any Jasper that could have such horrible luck. I only know one Jasper, and his mate's name is Bella, so, sorry, you are asking the wrong person your question. Now shoo," I waved a hand in air, attempting to get rid of the fly that was trying to sit on my bowl of tempting soup.
She stomped her feet in anger, glaring at me. "She is not his mate. I am his mate."
I could not stop myself from laughing at that ridiculous a statement, shaking my head in amusement. "Says who, you?"
She pouted in annoyance. "Ask anybody; that is the truth. I am his mate, his forever, his future wife."
Okay then.
I nodded my head in agreement, taking her up on the offer, turning to look around me, my eyes stopping on my beautiful wife.
Of course, she was the first person I saw in any crowded room, my eyes only searching for her, no matter how many centuries of togetherness go by.
"Hey, Char, is your biological grandfather and our sire, Jasper, mated to this annoying girl who resembles a boy- Pixie?"
She scoffed in exaggerated disgust, my wife getting the training in the acting department from the very best, a proud moment for me, indeed. "Of course not." She then turned to look at Alice, her eyebrow raised in question. "What are you smoking to have such unimaginable delusions? Whatever it is, you probably need to tone it down."
Can I bow down in front of her?
She deserves it, totally.
Alice continued to gape at Char in disbelief, as I turned around to look at Garrett, a smile of amusement on his face.
"Garrett, were you aware of Alice Cullen being mated to Jasper?"
He shook his head instantly. "On the contrary, I have met his actual mate. She is a wonderful and strong woman, her name being Bella."
I nodded my head in response, turning to look at Maggie.
"Maggie, are you unfortunate enough to have heard this rumor about Jasper being mated to this annoying, delusional woman?"
She laughed, shaking her head. "I have to admit, yes, but thankfully, it is just a rumor and not the truth."
"Maggie!" Edward growled at his mate, probably expecting her to take his side, but Maggie just waved him off, rolling her eyes in response.
Okay, so who's remaining?
I turned to look at Kate, smirking at her.
"Kate, what about you? Have you heard about this?"
She shook her head, smirking. "Can't say I have. I guess people know of not to mess with me."
I nodded my head in understanding, sighing audibly as I met eyes with one Alice Cullen, disappointment and regret shining in my eyes, needless to mention, of mock.
"See, no one apart from you and your delusional brother here believes that Jasper is mated to you. So, my opinion would be that you just, you know, go back to whichever hole you came from, for the sake of your own self- respect, obviously, not that you have much to worry about in the first place. I would say I am sorry, but I am really not."
"Yea, shoo," my mate added, waving her hands in air.
Alice Cullen looked taken aback, almost as if she hadn't seen this coming.
Which was strange…considering…what did she even expect- for us to hug her and welcome her to the family, throwing a party in her honor?
"And while you are at it," Maggie added, "take your brother also with you. He is not needed or wanted here."
"But Maggie," Edward pouted, like a damn five year old. "We are mated. You can't live without me."
He almost looked proud of this compulsion being forced upon Maggie.
She sighed, shaking her head. "Edward, you really need to grow up, a lot. Till you don't, I am sorry, but don't expect much from me. And while we are at the topic, I am not moving into that zoo you call a coven. If you want to stay with me, you will have to join my coven. Unless this is agreeable to you, I don't think we will work out, and I would much rather bear the pain of being away from my mate."
Wow.
She was strong.
I had to give her that.
"But…But…" Edward stumbled over his words, Alice coming to his support.
"How dare you? It is a privilege to live with someone like Carlisle. Only the best gets to join his coven- the best in looks and strength, or having some gift that would give them an in. I doubt he would even take you in." she scoffed in pride and delusion.
Maggie laughed at her words.
Okay, wait, make that all of us laughed at her words.
"I didn't know that you required a ticket to watch this circus, but don't worry, I don't need live entertainment in my life. I am content with watching the latest movies or reading a book for my daily dose of humor." Maggie commented, giggling.
"You… You…"
Alice Cullen seemed speechless and confused; and as a good Samaritan it is my absolute duty to help someone who is in need.
"You what? You are Maggie? You are a girl? You are very beautiful?" I winked at the person in question, her smile and her mate's growl coming simultaneously. Anyhow, it seemed like Alice Cullen still needed my help, and so, here we go,
"You are my inspiration? You really need to kick my brother in his balls? You should just slap me hard on the face because that is what people feel like doing when they look at me? You what, I repeat?"
She looked as if she was about to cry, stomping her tiny feet angrily.
"I know what you are doing."
Oh, is it?
"But I am not going to leave. I will keep following Jasper throughout my life. I will never let him live in peace. He will always have a stalker in me, waiting outside his bedroom window for just one glance of his."
And, yeah, then she would get a glance of many other things that are infamous for happening in the bedroom, majorly.
The chick was totally crazy, I know!
"Look here, now, you bitch," Kate took a step ahead, her eyes glaring at Alice as she spoke, the mean girl in her out to play. This would be fun! "I will give you two options, and you have to choose one, or I will choose one for you, and let me tell you, it won't be fun. First, you go back to your coven and forget about Jasper and Bella, never showing any of us your unlucky face again. Or, if that does not float your boat, I will you rip apart this very second, Garrett lighting the fire for me, and we will all give you a nice farewell from this very world. So, which do you choose?"
Alice's mouth had dropped open, which was an expected reaction, understandably.
"I will not leave." She whispered in half determination and much more than the other half fear, Kate's eyes telling everybody that she would actually go through with her warning.
"Are you sure?" Kate asked, her eyebrows raised in question, her hand outstretching with Alice falling to the ground, squeaking out in pain as Kate's gift hit her hard.
"Yes," she whispered, almost inaudibly.
"I did not hear that. Can you repeat your words?" Kate demanded, Alice's screams getting louder and louder by the second, her weak form lying on the ground in misery.
Damn. I almost felt bad for her.
But, really, wasn't this entirely her fault?
Kate had offered her the easy way out.
"So, what is your answer?" Kate growled out, her palm still outstretched as it faced Edward Cullen, the latter standing still like a traumatized statue, spineless in every which way that mattered.
"I will go."
"I did not hear that." Kate insisted, her power lessening its strength as Alice Cullen came to stand opposite the rest of us, looking completely defeated.
"I will go." she repeated, staring continuously at the uneven ground.
"Will you ever show your face to either Jasper or Bella?" Kate asked.
"No." Alice whispered.
"If they come across you, you will turn around and walk the other way. Is that understood?"
"Yes," she continued with her phase of talking in monosyllables.
"You can go." Kate waved a hand in air, banishing her away.
Alice nodded her head, turning to walk away in the direction from which she had arrived, Edward trailing behind her, not like anybody was shocked by that sight; we all expected it from him.
"Alice," my mate called after her, the person in question turning slightly. "You will find your mate one day, and the day you do, treat him well."
Alice gave out a vague nod, walking away into the trees.
"Wow." I commented with a chuckle. "That was something."
"But what is the guarantee that she will never come back; breaking her promise say decades from now?" Maggie asked, slightly doubtful of all that had just happened.
"She won't." I sighed, meeting her eyes as I tapped my head, my gift having told me this as obvious as the day. "She will find her mate in the next few months, her obsessive side following him around like an animal once fed."
"Oh, poor him," Kate frowned.
"You did well." Garrett smiled as he looked at his mate. "I did not know that you cared as much about Bella and Jasper. But I am happy that you helped them out, nonetheless."
"They are your friends, Garrett, and no one deserves a crazy stalker for eternity." Kate grinned back at him.
"Oh, Kate," I called for her attention. "Can your power travel a distance?"
She nodded her head in curiosity. "Yeah, but why?"
I shrugged in nonchalance. "No reason, just wanted to see if you could send a current of your power say one mile in the east."
Kate shrugged, confused, but did as was asked, a painful loud yelp being our answer as it came from exactly one mile in the east.
"What…what was that?" Kate questioned, surprised. "It sounded like the cry of an animal."
I waved a hand in air. "Don't worry; just someone who needed to be reminded that Bella is off limits. A few more warnings over the years, and he will get it in his thick head, going back to his reservation and finding love in a nice girl who will be dumb enough to fall for him."
"Oh." Kate nodded her head in agreement.
"So…. Now?" Char asked, turning to look at me.
I smiled wide. "Now, Jasper and Bella will live comfortably and happily ever after…oh…no…. wait…. the Volturi is on its way. The story has not ended yet."
