Chapter 40

Clark returned, having removed what was left of the right arm to Lex's suit. He pounded on the suit that was refusing to let go of Lillian. When the two metals clashed, the dents could be seen, where they had been unable to make progress before. Finally, the elder Luthor's suit gave up the battle for the human it once contained. J'onn and M'gann lowered Lillian to the floor and Lena came right over. Clark pounded the suit into the far wall and then set down the tool he'd managed to salvage.

"I don't feel so well," Lillian admitted.

"Nth metal poisoning?" M'gann wondered.

"We need Brainy's expertise," J'onn wasn't sure what to do. The fact of the matter was none of them did. They weren't even sure Brainy would know but he was the only one who'd been part of the future and travelled back to join their little group.

"My phone is in the car," Nia said.

"I'll give you a lift. Come on," M'gann offered. Quickly, the human-Naltorian hybrid went to her Martian friend and they disappeared from view. While Clark used his x-ray vision to check and see of the metal had somehow entered Lillian's body, Kate went over to Kara. The blonde was laying on the floor, her breathing was shallow.

"Hey there sunshine. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be standing up," Kate smirked, knowing her friend had to be in a lot of pain.

"Just need… a few minutes. I'll be… fine," Kara smiled but the smile didn't reach her eyes like it usually did.

"Liar," Kate said, taking a seat on the floor next to her.

"What did… you find… over there?" The blonde tried to shift the focus.

"Lena thinks you got Andrea's fingers. Or at least three of them. Hard to say what hand but she'll go underground now. Her allies have fallen and she's injured," the Gothamite told her.

"I need you… to do something… for me," Kara suddenly said.

"Anything. What do you need?" Kate was really getting concerned. At this point, the blonde didn't even sound like Kara.

"Patch things up… with your Dad. He can't… lose you. He's lost… too much already," she said.

"Well, you're coming with me to help him understand. You promised," the brunette told her. Kara only nodded and it was at that point that Kate thought something bad happened. She looked at her friend to see if she was breathing. A sigh of relief escaped her lips when the Gothamite saw the blonde was indeed still breathing. The next thought she had though wasn't a good one.

"I need some help over here!" Kate shouted. M'gann and Nia had arrived back from their trip to the car a few minutes prior. Dreamer got on the phone and was trying to reach out to Brainy. Clark had confirmed their fears, the Nth metal was somehow inside Lillian.

"What's going on?" J'onn wanted to know.

"Is it possible for Kryptonians to go into a coma? She was talking the one minute and now I can't get her to respond," Kate was trying to keep her cool. The Martian placed his fingers on Kara's forehead, she was burning up, something he'd never seen before. He attempted to connect to the woman he viewed as a daughter.

"We need something that will generate yellow sun," Lena told Kate.

"How are we going to do that? Sunrise isn't for hours and the DEO is supposed to be staying out of this," the brunette reminded her.

"The nanites… I might be able to reprogram them," the raven-haired woman said.

"We don't have time for that," Kate said.

"We could use the Nth metal but…" Lena wasn't sure that was the best option. Not only had it never actually been worn by a Kryptonian, but they were also struggling to help Lillian. Trying to use the metal could make the situation worse.

"Kara is still in there but she's struggling to maintain control of her body. The Nth metal did some really serious damage," J'onn said.

"We're making this too complicated. Kara needs the sun so the best thing to do is take her to the sun," Kate told them. J'onn quickly grabbed Kara's hand and double tapped the left cape connection point. Once the helmet reengaged, he took off, towards the outer atmosphere. The closest sun rays were in outer space and that's just where they needed to go.

"She better be all right," Kate said.

"J'onn knows what he's doing. Now my mother on the other hand, we need all the help we can get," Lena let her know. The brunette didn't want to help the woman who had obviously helped Lex, but she knew she had to try to help, if only for Lena's sake. They headed back over to the group to see what they could do.

Meanwhile, not far away from the team, Andrea sulked in the darkness of the night above the facility. Three of her fingers on her left hand were gone – removed by the freeze breath of Supergirl and Andrea's attempt at getting away. She scowled. Supergirl would pay for what she had done. She wasn't sure how, but she'd figure out a way. Needing to regroup and figure out a way to explain her current condition to everyone back in National City, Andrea headed for Metropolis and the nearest airport.
